  1. If I were the team owner, I would be incredibly angry. Whether you call it a prank or hazing, it could be terrible for business. Every player on that team is a multi-million dollar investment, or has the potential to bring a multi-million dollar payoff. Just not good business, to let these guys risk injuring themselves outside of a game situation. They are at risk enough, in games. To allow this is incomprehensible, to me, whether it be a superstar, third stringer, or whatever. And regardless of who was throwing who, it's just bad business from a purely economic standpoint. I also hate bullying of any sort, but have not looked at the video, and don't claim this was or wasn't in good fun. That matters little. The financial risks to all involved, and other teammates, coaches, owners, this is just insanity. ETA: and at risk in practice, of course.
  2. I took Penn State. Disgusting scandal aside, I think O'Brien is going to be a great coach. His contract was automatically extended by one year, for each year of sanctions. This told me that he entered the place with eyes wide open, prepared and committed for the long haul. Losing Silas Redd was huge, of course, and a few others hurt almost as much. Breaking in a new system under duress cannot be easy. But I think their coach is the key that could show them breaking out this year, beyond all expectations. I hope the Huskers take that game seriously. I suppose by that point, PSU will either be roaring or failing, and hard to miss in any event. The next few years for them will be entirely dependent on this year, I think. And their recruiting may be determined by how many guys they put in the NFL in the next draft.
  3. Agreed. The walk-on program was one facet of our diamond in the past, it is good to see it coming on strong.
  4. Sometimes Nebraska pride is confused with arrogance. The difference comes down to a twitch of the eye or the intonation of a syllable. All parties will disagree on what the real intent was. We do have history on our side, no doubt. Some of us forget that history is in the past, though it is not as far in the past as some Hawk fans would like. Last year's victory over Iowa only adds to the conundrum. If they win this year, they will be intolerable, and with less reason, by far, than the smug Husker fans they have had to deal with. Yes, they are our new Colorado. Whether we like it or not.
  5. I recall some words Tom used, long ago. A paraphrase: I don't mind losing so much, as long as every member of the team has played to the best of their ability. If we have given it all we have, and played well, and still lost, we have still accomplished something. That's a rough paraphrase, but you get the idea. I'd like to think we can still expect that sentiment over a "win at all costs, immediately" attitude. Otherwise, we risk landing on the same merry-go-round that Texas A&M currently occupies. I am not comparing us to them, in terms of greatness (there is no comparison). But, they adopted a "win in the first few years" mindset and are currently paying off three different head coaches, all of whom were expected to "get it done", to compete for championships immediately. To me, nothing could be more potentially damaging to a program like ours. Frank Solich is too close, in the rearview mirror, for me to get impatient just yet. I know it's been discussed here, but so has almost everything else. Bo's numbers are not what we'd "love" to see. But the picture is bigger than the last few years.
  6. Knapplc, Sorry, I must have misunderstood an earlier post in this thread, that suggested you were a retired gentleman, kindly donating his time for us, stalking the stadium with a camera. My mistake, I meant no harm or offense. These pics are great, and again, thanks to all who posted them.
  7. Apologies. Looking back over this thread, I see that others posted photos, aside from knapplc. Thank you, all who contributed. I did not mean to exclude you. For those of us who are far from Lincoln, every glimpse of our team is valuable and appreciated. I assumed, wrongly, that the older retired fellow would have little to do in his day to day activities and be better equipped with time and resources to gather these pictures. Now, I understand that this was more of a group effort, not to diminish the efforts of our elderly fans, and I do apologize to all others who helped bring these pictures to those of us outside Nebraska. Thanks again, knapplc, and everyone else. This series of photos has been very inspirational to Husker alumni and fans far from home. With all my gratitude, Flood
  8. A big thanks to knapplc for taking the time over the last couple years to provide these photos of all the construction phases. I rarely post, but wanted to extend my gratitude. I live in Tampa and have not had a chance to return to Lincoln/Omaha for years, and it is a pleasure to see the work from your photos, which are all great quality, as well. Thanks so much, from a Husker far from home!
  9. We DO have major problems to fix. First on that list is the obvious, at least to me: Last week's game made it clear OSU had trouble with blitzing defenses. VERY clear. So, why didn't we blitz until half through the 3rd? Seems like an obvious plan, but hell, I am just a fan. Glad we won, though I don't believe we really earned it. Well, maybe, but just barely. That 2nd half was the Husker team I think we have all wanted to see. Now, if they can do the same for FOUR quarters . . .
  10. Great game. Like watching TWO games, of course. Great job by OSU in the first half, and NU in the 2nd. I hope we can get it together for the rest of our inaugural B1G schedule, or this will be a troubling time. Hats off to OSU, and to their fans. Very nice folks, and I think we will fit in well in our new conference.
