  1. Fixed it for you. Not in the AP.
  2. Our lack of patience and perspective is amazing. I've seen my 3 year wait for ice cream more patiently than we wait for the national championship we "deserve". We make 3rd generation welfare moms seem appreciative of their checks compared to us appreciating our success of winning 9 games a season.
  3. Looking at elite teams since the NU BobFather era began. AP National Championships by the top all time winning teams in history/ Alabama went from 66 to 79 to 91 to 2009 - roughly every 20 years between MNC Texas went from 70 to 2005 - 35 years OU from 74, 75 to 85 - 2001 - roughly every 20 years Notre Dame 66, 73, 77, 88 USC 62, 67, 72, 2003, 04 NU 70, 71, 94, 95, Michigan 97 Ohio State 68, 2002 I think you see my point? When you look at actually winning national championships (playing for a national championship is usually undefinable in a non-play off system, for example, did Alabama "play" us for a nationalship in the orange bowl in 1971 or would OU have been #1 if we lost to Alabama?) see here for examples of how many teams were considered national champions by various entities since 1960. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_football_national_championships_in_NCAA_Division_I_FBS So, to say it could take 15 years under Bo to create a perfect storm of talent, attitude, luck, schedule and coaching to win a national championship is consistant with what history teaches us about college football "dynasties"
  4. Colorado game - -1995 in Boulder. NU #2, CU #7 The Buff players march down thru the stadium. The crowd is nuts. Insanely nuts. We get the ball first. Frazier in the huddle and one of the linemen is amped, losing composure, the atmosphere of the crowd is messing with him. Frazier grabs his facemask and gives a little stare into the lineman's eyes and says "do your f'ing job" They break huddle. Snap. Green goes 57 yards on a play TO designed specifically for the game. Touchdown. 1 play into the game. Score at end of 1st quarter NU 21 - 7 and 31-14 at the half. I remember discussing this game with a friend after the game and we nit-picked having to settle for only one field goal in the 3rd quarter due to some mistake. After some discussion the "DUH-stick" hit us when we realized we complained because we had to settle for a field goal on the road against a rival that hated us and used every possible method to rattle us. We had the ball for 35 minutes. We had NO penalties We had NO turnovers We had 500 yards of offense. And by the way, this isn't even the THE game we all remember from the 95 season. Let that sink in. Deeper, deeper, a little deeper. Now - what does this have to do with Nebraska Right NOW? After decades of frustration, TO created a perfect storm for 5 seasons that simply will NEVER be repeated by anyone again. We have to move on and realize that hopefully in the next 15 years BO can create a perfect storm, too. Meanwhile, we gotta settle for some 3 or 4 loss seasons.
  5. Have you watched an SEC game in the last ten years??? There is a reason that it is te best conference in the land. Those defenses you see week in and out more or less make Taylor crap his pants at night, and he doesn't have to face them. When I watch SEC games, I think I see very talented, aggressive defenses built around speed with a big big body mixed in on the elite teams. On offense, I rarely see teams line up with multiple tight ends and grind, grind, grind their way down the field. I think I see offenses which do rush the ball, but don't live and die by the rush in the way the BIG ten teams seem to. Overall, I think of SEC games as having extreme momentum swings which some might mistake for hard fought physical battle royales. I think the SEC has a WWF element - more show (sometimes) than truly grueling battles.
  6. washington says hai And why would they say that? It's not even a word...
  7. More on defense I suspect. Our skilled guys have speed. should be very interesting to see how well they use it to really stop us. I sure hope they miss their d-coordinator.
  8. Very good points. Our return game has gone kinda quiet, sure would be nice to pick up some free field position throughout the game
  9. Here is my take on this game- Spurrier is not known for winning bowls - I personally think he's probably a bit lazy and doesn't work his teams very hard. Their practice schedule seems to have been lighter than ours both at home and in Orlando. Bo likes lay offs, seems to do pretty well with extra time to prepare. Seems like we're practicing, going in full pads, etc. Advantage NU Plus, we have a new offensive scheme - I think NU gains more from the extra practice time than SC does. Advantage NU Overall, I think NU is more on the upswing than SC and therefore momentum puts us even with a potentially more talented SC team. Both teams have lost a Defensive Coordinator and promoted from within. I don't think there is any doubt the loser in that situation is SC. Spurrier isn't probably quite as involved in the defense as BO. Advantage NU. Familiarity - NU has been preparing for a 'new' team all season with the switch to the big 10. Advantage NU. Odd weaknesses - advantage to SC in having a scrambling quarterback. NU seems to struggle dispropotionately against teams with a scrambling QB. Team speed - TV analysts would say advantage SC. I am not as certain. Toughness - I think I go advantage NU on this. The SEC just doesn't seem to have the games of endless pain and wearing down the opponent. I think it comes down to the type of game - if NU never trails by more than 7, I think we'll be able to wear down and out coach SC. If NU is slow to defend the speed or if the O-line is overwhelmed early and we have to abandon the running game, we'll lose and probably lose ugly. I think we'll out scheme them, but we can't let them use their speed to change our schemes. Only one key to the game is probably required - NU rushing for 200 yards. NU 27 SC 20
  10. That was true last week against Northwestern and was true a few days ago before the PSU meltdown - are you suggesting that nothing has really changed in the last few days?
  11. It will take a very special effort by Bo, coaches and players to remain focused and on task. I initially thought the PSU horror would undo them, but then it became more obvious to me that PSU is in a perfect situation for motivation. They had 2 weeks off - the game plan is in place, so they didn't lose much "practice" this week. It is PSU against the WORLD. I can't imagine an easier pregame speach than "win for JoPa" and the "only people that care about Penn State football is in this stadium. I think PSU plays obsessed and angry beyond anything we've faced in a decade. Kudos to Bo if he pulls this off. p.s. I understand there are counter arguments to my theory, but I think this is the one we'll encounter on Saturday.
  12. it may be overblown, but joepa was complicit in all of this. keep in mind, alleged read the grand jury report from the other thread. this is enough smoke to blot the sun - there is a fire somewhere.
  13. it may be overblown, but joepa was complicit in all of this. I think we're working our way from kind gentle fatherly JoPa to accomplice JoPed pretty quickly from what I've read about the abuse as recent as last MONTH.
  14. i haven't looked. I was at the game. Some young punk quarterback from Florida was at the helm. We had just benched an experienced Sr starter to put in the punk a few games earlier. He had a horrible game and we lost. His only great play was a pass to the full back under tremendous pressure and in the grasp and tossed to the fullback. Luckily Frazier turned out okay in the long run. And losing to Iowa State in Ames to Jim Walden -using a walk on Sr starting quarterback in his FIRST ever start. The QB was named Sieler and was from the great State of Nebraska. The year was 1992.
  15. odd season factoid. We played 3 consecutive teams starting with W (Wyoming, Washington, Wisconsin).
  16. It got a lot of press when we played ohio (the state) and apparently i selected an untimely point to bring this up. But I got you to reply. So make it Ronznotes random useless thoughts 1, Bigrediwon's self control 0.
  17. Guys, you will all look back fondly and recall this as my best, most interesting, insightful and inspiring most of my career. Sad, but true.
  18. Just saying, He's a good Catholic guy.... seems like this dream job might be Notre Dame? I was thinking about this other day when everyone is so concerned about him leaving for Ohio State The, that the obvious job might be hiding in plain sight. Touchdown Jesus.
  19. I recall him writing for the paper.
  20. Check out the reverse out of the RexCat - Martinez's foot is clearly offsides at the beginning of the play. Lines up offsides by almost a full foot.
