  1. Here's the thing with your first comments. You have to see this as a the glass being half full - we finally have a mobile quarterback that is actually dual threat. He's an actual threat when he's throwing and running, not just when he's running. Contrast that to Taylor and Tommy. They'd get the hell blitzed out of them and didn't have the composure to hang in there, step up into the pocket, and make a throw. So for the first time in eight cumulative seasons with mobile quarterbacks that were actually more like "single threat" quarterbacks we finally have a really good one where a good play caller like Frost can put together a game plan against a team. Combine that with the fact that our offensive line is constantly hamstringing games with penalties. If you take those penalties out that killed multiple drives it was probably worth another seven points on the board, which gets us to 35. Our defense was terrible (unsurprisingly) for the umpteenth time in B1G play and lost the game.
  2. There is almost no doubt about it. I seriously cannot believe this kid's composure and ability to keep his eyes downfield. Our receivers ran good routes tonight and consistently got open. You give that to Martinez and he will eat babies out there.
  3. Next year I predict he'll have that killer instinct for when to take off, when he can turn it into a 6-10 yard run instead of holding onto the ball. All I can say is right now I'm glad he's staying calm and keeping his eyes downfield. Jaimes, Farmer, and Wilson have actually looked good this season. Foster and Farniok honestly just don't look very strong and don't get good enough leverage to actually use good form to man up on their guy. I still have hope for Farniok but he needs to get stronger.
  4. No doubt. And how about Spielman...seriously unreal. The Big 10 really hasn't changed much in 20 years, outside of Urban Meyer coming in. 24 points is enough to win you games in this conference. 500+ yards of offense? Totally dynamic offense, and Martinez will is already a star. You watch Northwestern and Iowa play against Wisconsin and this s*** of getting 200 yards hung on them by a running back is rare. We get to the fourth quarter and just let em stomp us into the turf with their ground game. Second quarters have been pretty terrible for our offense. Imagine going into halftime with a score of 20-17. But at any rate...our defense is just terrible. We could actually beat Northwestern and Michigan State but it's going to take a showstopping effort from Martinez, Washington, Ozigbo, Morgan, and Spielman.
  5. It's what happened in the fourth quarter for our defense. Just like it was last year. They get past our line and then we just don't close in on the ball. We have one linebacker that played this game that gives 100% on each play and flies to the ball. One. The Davis twins are good for sure. You've got Freedom out there who was a good 4-3 defensive end but just isn't doing a whole lot as a 3-4 defensive end. Cam Taylor played well and obviously has a lot of speed. There are some positives but there are of course a lot of problems, ranging everywhere from still battling bad tackling by some guys to just a lack of ability for others.
  6. What? We were in position for literally a dozen tackles for loss tonight? Post up the gifs of those plays, please.
  7. Yes, I've had a few pale ales tonight...but seriously, if roughly seven specific guys on our starting 11 on defense cared half as much about winning football games as Adrian Martinez this would be a team.
  8. Adrian Martinez will be a Heisman candidate his junior year. This kid is UNREAL.
  9. This defense just doesn't compete. You don't see that in *any* of the starting 11 on offense. But this defense just doesn't play hard.
  10. I love this offense. We just need to graduate some slack on defense and get some athletes in there and this team is going to dominate the West. You can see it.
  11. Maurice Washington is a fighter. Holy s*** what a fighter. Gets his bell run. Gets back in and picks up a first down. WOW.
  12. Do you see how teams pick on Dedrick Young?????
  13. We should have brought the house with blitz packages in this game. You've got a linebacker out there that's playing so bad that it's like playing with 10 guys. Bench him and put in a smaller, faster guy that just corner blitzes all day at this rate.
  14. Martinez's patience and decision making as an 18 year old is like...seriously unbelievable. This kid is blowing my mind. This team could be special with him at QB.
  15. Adrian Martinez is an absolute superstar. Not like, "He'll be great in two years, or three years." He is a superstar right now.
  16. Coach Osborne must just be beside himself when he watches our defense out there. I never would have expected to be worse than Diaco's fiasco last season, but we're there.
  17. The play calling on both of our last two drives was awesome though. Spielman, Morgan, Ozigbo, and Martinez have as much heart as any player to ever wear the red 'N.' Washington will be a super star. But it just doesn't quite take the edge off of how painful this season is.
  18. Farniok and Foster aren't playing well in this game but our offense is actually improving. But our defense is seriously terrible. Miller, Bootle, Aaron Wiliams, and Barry are serviceable guys. The rest of this roster is just not good. Going to have to graduate some guys and just start fresh.
  19. We will not come back in this game with Dedrick Young and Lamar Jackson. Put them on the bench, coach.
  20. Dedrick Young is just not playing good football, guys.
  21. I don't like playing Gifford as a stand-up defensive end. He just goes directly at their tackle and gets stood up. Put an actual defensive end in there and go with four down lineman if you're going to do that because it's not working. It didn't work against Purdue and it's not working now. On offense - run some jet sweeps.
  22. That would be the absolute dumbest thing he could do to his college career. The starter (currently, which could change even next week) is going to graduate. He easily stands to be the feature back next year if he keeps getting meaningful reps this year. So I don't think he'll do that.
  23. I'm pumping myself up for this one right now by watching some Mike Riley highlights. That's where we're at here.
