Penn State, as a university, a community, heck, Pennsylvania itself as a state, has taken a serious hit on this, It's a depraved community and you have to seriously consider expelling Penn State from the Big 10.You gotta admit though. since you're an Ohio State fan, you're secretly loving this, yes? It certainly took the spotlight off OSU's corrupt program in a major way.

I didn't mean my post to be seen as an attack, I'm just saying I'd like to see PSU recover and get back to the standard we thought Paterno had them at and I think Dungy is just a classy guy who could me that happen...and as far as naming a few other candidates I don't think any compare to Dungy, the man is in a class of his own when it comes to developing character and staying on the moral highground. One problem with suspecting the timing of the Sandusky indictment is that if you believe it's fishy then you believe the Pennsylvania law enforcement and the District Attorney's office are in on it. In other words, you suspect that the very people who did the investigation and are bringing the charges are themselves part of a conspiracy. At some point it gets a little "Michael Moore" where everything is suspicious and everything is a conspiracy and everyone is in on it. Would it seem less suspicious if the Sandusky indictment had come out in December after the regular season is complete? Or January after the bowl games are over? Maybe someone in the PA District Attorney's office is a Husker fan and the timing was designed to disrupt PSU right before last week's game. :-)

Having seen it up close, lung cancer is not something I'd wish on my worst enemy. The talk about "beating it" is contrary to my understanding of it, but very in synch with how people tend to think when they first learn that they or a loved one have it...that it's something that can be beaten. Based on what I've read (and while I don't claim to be an expert I've read a lot) if you are healthy you might have five years once a diagnosis is made. In Joe Pa's case, given his age, I expect much less.

The timing is impeccable i know, but i do not think they would fake a diagnosis. what they might do, like huskerfaninokieland said, is withhold the diagnosis and now reveal it for whatever reason. Just a random question here though but did JoePa ever smoke? He seems like the kind of guy that would've especially when he was younger I mean sh#t...my grandfather (about his age) started smoking when he was like 8 or something so I could kind of understand the lung cancer thing. I've read a ton of articles about him over the years and none of them mentioned smoking...even the occasional cigar. I always assumed that he did not smoke, but we all know about assumptions.

Why on earth would they do that? You require a team to forfeit wins when it does something contrary to the rules that gives it a competitive advantage it should not have had. An ex-assistant coach molesting boys has nothing to do with winning football games. Should all of the NCAA and NFL teams with players convicted of felonies (way too many to count) be required to forfeit their wins? Sorry, that's just stupid.

It's just about the most deadly form of cancer there is I had a friend who died of it a few years ago. The doctors said that through chemo and radiation they can usually "knock it down" for about six months, but after that all bets were off. He died 13 months after being diagnosed.

This story sounds like a load of crap to me. One guy and his cousin or step-brother or whatever and nobody else coming forward. I don't think there's anything to this one and the accuser will get exposed. Actually, the story says..."Recently, a second man contacted ESPN, alleging that Fine also molested him." One accuser only, OK, you might have to go, hmmm. But three? You have to investigate that. Apparently Syracuse is taking it seriously enough to put Fine on leave. You do have to wonder though, why contact ESPN? Why not the police?

Story breaking now about years of molestation by a Syracuse assistant basketball coach. Right. My bad and apologies. Hopefully a mod will delete the thread. Tom Corbett the PA governor is on the current Penn State board of trustees. And what I read in multiple places is that the board of trustees swift, but unexplained actions suggested a desire to put this thing to bed ASAP without further investigation. But none of those sources (including the Dennis and Calahan show on Sports Talk WEEI radio) provided a link to a reliable source, making the statements innuendo and heresay. Actually, as Peter King said in an interview yesterday (and I agree) way too much of what's being reported in the press on this case is based not on solid journalism but on innuendo and heresay.

This just reported. He's on the PSU board of trustees, Also Rick Santorum a huge Sandusky supporter is under investigation, as well as Sandusky disciples like GREG SCHIANO, curent head coach of Rutgers who coached under Sandusky for 7 years. No telling how deep this goes.

If the Wisconsin and Ohio State fans blame Penn State players for the acts of a PSU coach who retired over ten years ago that doesn't reflect very well on their powers of reason. I hold out higher hopes for my fellow Americans. The whole country can't be Ricky Lake. Can it?

I might be reading too much into Dodds comment regarding "King Football wins," but it's almost as if he's implying that Nebraska fans are more concerned with the game than anything else. I don't think he's even bothered to ask any of us how we feel before making assumptions. The decision to play the game or not is up to Penn State. If they chose to forfeit and cancel the game, I don't think there would be all that much outcry around here. It seems people are pretty split about whether it should be played. But we're Nebraska fans. We only care about football, right? At least that's what Dodds seems to think. People are upset...obviously and understandably. But some in the press are trying to outdo each other with their holier than thou positions. The past few days I've read everything from Penn State should be disbanded immediately (not the football team...the entire school itself) to the remained of the 2011 NCAA season should be canceled for all teams. There have even been suggestions that Penn State is only the tip of the iceberg and that pedophile coaches are rampant in div 1 football. You know, rational, reasoned stuff like that.
