  1. You need to read the grand jury report to understand this. Warning, though, it is horrifying and many people can't get through it completely. There's a lot more here than "an incident." There was a direct witness to a boy being forcibly raped in a Penn State shower. That witness told Paterno, and he relayed the info to his superiors. You need to understand the magnitude of these allegations to understand why JoePa (and everyone else who knew what Sandusky was doing) abdicated his responsibility so thoroughly by not making sure the police were contacted. Even worse, as recently as 2007 Sandusky was still coming to closed practices with young boys - AFTER Paterno and the school knew about the 1999 and 2002 incidents. In 2009, Sandusky was allowed to run an overnight football camp for youngsters on the Penn State campus. Sandusky was still allowed to use workout facilities as recently as last week. This is huge, and I don't think it's quite hit most of the public how ugly it is. That will sink in over the coming days and weeks. OK so I read all 23 pages. I still do not see where JoPa had direct knowledge of any sexual contact. Even in the earlier statements, he says there was inappropriate behavior on Sandusky's part. Before I go on, lets get one thing straight, in no way am I defending the actions of anyone involved. I am simply stating that JoPa should not get fired for his part. I am more disgusted by the grad assistant who at the age of 28 had to run home to daddy and tell him and NOT stop what he saw or Joesph Miller the wrestling coach who witnessed and incident and the janitor who ran and told everyone but did nothing to stop the attack. WTF. This has nothing to do with living in the past (1960's) either. This is a sad story about a beloved coach that got away with it because no witness stepped in to stop it. JoPa turn the information over to his superiors, one of which oversaw the Campus Police. It wasn't his job to follow up, it was Gary Schultz as overseer of the campus police and Tim Curley, his boss. Can't believe you feel this way. Why? Rather than trying to intimidate someone into agreeing with you, why don't explain your position.
  2. Certainly that statement was. It's embarrassing and I say this as a PSU fan. Did Paterno even read it or have anything to do with crafting it? Your guess is as good as mine but I'm guessing no. That's how out of control this program is...most PSU fans I know think Paterno should have retired 15 years ago and by refusing to do so has in effect been holding the program hostage ever since. Frankly, I'm sick of the guy. He was a wonderful coach and mentor. He's a legend of the game, with good reason. But there's a time to move on and if you can't accept that and do so you become a charichature of yourself. Paterno is 84. He should be touring cathedrals in Italy, not pretending to coach a program he has no control over from a coaches box. There are two groups I feel for in this. First and foremost its got to be the victims of these horrible crimes. It's a shame this wasn't addressed sooner, hopefully there will be something approaching justice coming out of this and they can somehow live their lives a little more comfortably. These kids were failed by people that should've saved them, in my mind that GA and anyone else who didn't report it is just as guilty as the molester for enabling him. The second group I feel for (much less than the victims but still) are PSU fans. We CFB fans, the real ones, can't control our love for our schools. We didn't choose them, it happened and we're in it for life, even if we have next to no control over the programs...and then sh#t likes this happens. As a fan its just got to wreck you. How about the PSU players? They're going to be the ones heckled for years to come about something they had no control over. Wait. Are you suggesting that because Penn State employed a coach who it sure looks like was a child abuser that Wisconsin fans will heckle Penn State players going forward calling them child abusers? Is that seriously your point?

I went to Penn State. Who else am I gonna root for? And for decades Joe Pa really has been a great influence on the sport. Has PSU really been a "squeaky clean" as it's rep? Don't make me laugh. Of course not. Call me a cynic, but in big time college athletics, nobody's hands are lean. Still, I really do believe that Paterno was better than most. And I do believe he cared about his kids. He's Italian and brought that "family is everything" attitude to work with him every day. Unfortunately, "family is everything" becomes a double edged sword once you have a bad guy in the fold.

  5. Sounds about right. Penn State is not an offense designed to score a lot of points. And it is not one that can come from behind. PSU's game is a contain defense that keeps the score low coupled with a grind it out ball control running game. Actually, that's been PSU's game plan for the past 5,000 years. No kidding, 5,000 years ago some PSU QB was grunting in the huddle, "Hrmph. Me hand off to Oog. Oog go left off guard. Make three yards. Hrmph."
  6. Paterno won't get fired unless something ugly is revealed during the trial. I don't even want to think of what could be revealed during the trial. If the public demands it they will most defiantly fire any and all with knowledge. Just look at the fan-base in Nebraska and how they react over athletics notwithstanding a real crime. Not even the liberal media can cover up this disgusting mess! Do you really have to make a terrible story like this into a political situation? TRUTH IS TRUTH, and you are the only one turning it into that, sir. And asshats are asshats. So your position is liberals actively aid and abet child molesters? Thanks for being the calm voice of reason.
  7. You may indeed be right. Still, there are are some pretty interesting games coming up.
  8. Especially considering Woody was a psycohpath ingloriously booted from the NCAA for having so little self control that he actually assaulted an opposing team player on national tv. He makes Bobby Knight look like a choir boy. One can only imagine the extent of the rules violations OSU practiced under Hayes. Not that rules or ethics have ever meant much when it comes to OSU football anyway. ;-)
  9. Got it, and I can agree with that. I can tell you that as a Penn State fan I went through the same thing when we joined the Big Ten that I expect a lot of Nebraska fans will go through. For example: I was used to my team dominating most of its opponents and winning most games easily. I was used to my team being a perennial top 10. I was so used to it that I expected PSU was gonna set the Big 10 on fire, become the new bully on the block. Instead what I found was that the Big Ten was a tough, gritty neighborhood. We were no longer the big fish in the pond. The Big 10 teams were used to slug fests and none of them scared easily. There were no gimmees any more, even against teams with losing records. Every week was a fight.I though we'd be going to the Rose Bowl every other year. Now I consider it a hard won and infrequent honor. Also, not to be understated...we (you) are now competing in recruiting with other Big 10 teams. It's not like the days of the old Big 8 where the best players in your neck of the woods choose between one or two schools (e.g., Nebraska and OU). Now they choose between Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Penn State, etc. Life in the Big 10 is harder than it is in those leagues where one or two teams perennially dominate and so are always guaranteed the best talent. It's a black and blue conference. And not to everyone's taste. I confess I a big part of me misses the days of blowing out every opponent and guaranteed big bowl appearances. Winning easily is fun. But it also takes a lot of the mystery out of life. The Big 10 is a lot more like the NFL when it comes to parity than other conferences.
  10. I still don't know what your complaint is. That both the league and Nebraska are overrated and mediocre? OK. So then I guess it's a lucky thing that Nebraska made the jump to the Big 10 when they did. If they were still in the Big 12 this year they'd prolly be getting thumped every week and have no shot at a bowl. 4-7 here we come. Maybe what Nebraska should have done was join the Ivy League. Then it could return to the glory days of weekly 57-10 routes of prostate opponents and guaranteed 11-1 records. That was much more interesting, wasn't it? I'm kidding, But just kinda.
  11. Pretty bad, but calling it a sad day for the Big 10 seems a little over the top. Sexual predators exist in all walks of life: priests, ministers, cops, teachers, and yes...coaches. That the AD did not follow up adequately on the is unconscienable. And that he appears to be lying to protect himself is criminal. But I'm not sure how this is a reflection on the league. The fact is most child molesters are supported by a network of people who look the other way or don't want to get involved.
