  1. I won't say he doesn't care, but he is the one player that I've seen repeatedly try to calm Bo down on the sidelines. So, he gets it to some extent. That being said - instead of lashing out at fans (just like his head coach has done in the past) - how about pulling everybody on the sideline together as a LEADER and chewing their collective arses DURING the game?
  2. KB: "Attack me, whatever. It's when u talk about my head man. I don't like it when ppl talk about Bo. Thats what I get angry about" #Huskers Rightfully so, he looks up to the guy, understood. KB: #Huskers fans criticizing him on twitter "care & they want us to win as much as anybody else" but also want pics & autographs in person Blanket Statement, KB... Bell on Bo: "Anybody that says he needs to go is crazy. It's literally insane." #Huskers Why is it insane? Because you look up to the guy, KB? C'mon, man. More Bell on Bo: "If 9 wins, 10 wins isn't good enough for you, I don't know who you should be a fan of." #Huskers #GBR If one of those 9 or 10 wins was a conference championship, we wouldn't be having this convo, KB. Bell: "Honestly, the guy can't do much more but win. Obviously we want conference championships but sometimes it's not in the cards"#Huskers KB: "Its not easy to come out & win every single week. We dropped a big one last week. We dropped big ones in the past too, but..."#Huskers Seven years of dropped big ones wears on fans. This is spoken of a guy who didn't live through the Bill Callahan/Steve Pederson era. Bell: "...they're people, these coaches. They have a family. They have a wife & kids they take care of & put food on the table for" #Huskers Show me any job that you can screw up everytime a major project comes along, but you do well on the minor projects. Any job, whatsoever. "You want to get rid of them, take away their job b/c you can't watch your team win a championship? Give me a break. Its absurd"#Huskers "It's like me telling the mailman since he missed my mail, or dropped one in the snow, he should be fired. It blows my mind." #Huskers I'll bet some of these former players who are being critical of him felt the same way when people asked for their coaches' heads. It's part of the job, KB. KB: Not a big deal when #Huskers fans criticize him but "to go after my teammates or my coach, unless u can do better, I wldnt say anything" Instead of lashing out at fans a la Bo, pull the team together and start tearing them a new one. Easy to be a Twitter Disciplinarian. This is why players shouldn't tweet.
  3. Again - Charles Davis said himself that there would be tremendous interest in this job if Bo is gone at the end of season.
  4. What Bucky was doing against the D wasn't too difficult to stop. Bring one more safety down in the box. Don't play Collins outside of the 3 technique. When they stopped the run, they stopped it cold. But as soon as Bo started worrying about the pass against a team with little to no passing threat (sounds familiar), then it was Gordon, all day. And - played two highs ALL. GAME. LONG.
  5. +1 Damon Benning said yesterday on his morning radio show "you have to model what you preach." If you are the head coach and are asking your players to stay focused, composed, but yet you are blowing up in players' faces or in the faces of the refs, then you are not modeling what you preach to the players, and eventually they will tune you out, and your antics just become white-noise. ++1 I said this in a previous post a couple days ago as well. That also holds true to your assistant coaches as well, especially. Employees respond better to a boss who walks the same line that he or she tows.
  6. We need to be careful. I don't think that anybody on this team - coaches nor players - want to be in this particular situation at all. You could have all seniors on that field on Saturday all day. At this point, the problem isn't desire, or lack of (at least, starting off in that game it wasn't). At this point, it's leadership (at the team's highest level), along with philosophy. Does the current offensive/defensive philosophy give this team the best chance to win? 408 yards later...I'd say no.
  7. It's now worth noting that beating Minnesota means precisely dick in the argument as to why Nebraska needs a new coach.
  8. To be a great leader (whether or not you're a football coach, CEO, or whatever), you have to do some things well to keep the job. You have to: 1. Take instruction well 2. Be a good listener. 3. Have the ability for honest self reflection. 4. Have a business like demeanor 5. Don't take it (or make it) personal 6. Deal honestly with subordinates, deal honestly with your boss. 7. Make it about the team, in good and bad times. 8. Be willing to get out of your comfort zone. 9. Hear everybody's ideas so you can make the best informed decision 10. Have the willingness to be on an island all by yourself. Does Pelini do these things well? If he learns how to do #3 and #8, he'll be the guy here, and everything else will take care of its self. If not, he's toast. The next guy in should keep these things in mind.
  9. Lets assume you had a daughter and she had a dance recital coming up. Would you go to it? Funny you say that - I have TWO daughters, actually. Eight and eleven. Both are honors students and are active in extra-curricular activities at school and our church. So obviously, our time is precious to us as a family of four. Now, if we think that any of the people in charge of that extra-curricular activity aren't giving their 100% level best...we don't let my children participate in it. Why? Because we are teaching our kids to give their best for what they believe in. And we communicate that to them. Everybody, especially leadership, must do their part for success. So, to your argument - if the ballet instructor was late all the time and not showing up on time - well, my daughter isn't participating in that instructor's class. Equate that to a parent with their son, sitting in their living room. Mark Pelini is sitting on their loveseat, trying to convince them to let their son come hundreds of miles, hours away from their home. And that parent watched the Wisconsin game with their son. What do you think that parent would say? See how that works? Your time is pretty precious, yet you are replying on a message board? I do have free time, slick. All of my time isn't devoted to ballet recitals
  10. The HOW we lose has to be important. If football was just about wins and losses, then why don't people just check the final score after the game is over? HOW we win is also important. We've beat some pretty crappy teams pretty handily, I'll give us credit. If a 9-4 win loss record beating crappy teams and losing to good ones is what Nebraska fans want or accept, then clearly seven years in I believe we can surely say we have our man in Bo Pelini. Personally I don't think Nebraska should accept that. I think Nebraska's program and resources as a whole are far above this yearly result. It's hard to relax and enjoy a football game like that. I've said before, it's not just about winning or losing. When was the last time Nebraska played good football in all three phases of the game for a full season? There are a lot of teams with bad losses. Honestly, the way WI has been playing I wouldn't be surprised if they win the B1G. Does that excuse the performance we put up, not at all. However, I'll take the WI loss over a loss to a team like Utah or Florida. Let ask a question. If WI, MSU, and NU win out, how do you feel about our season? "What we came to do is win a conference championship and win a national championship. We're going to fight tooth and nail to keep trying to get that done." - Mark "Bo" Pelini Season is a failure if you don't even have a shot at playing in a conference championship two games out. I'm sure Bo thinks that way as well, deep down. Had they won last week and then beat the Gophers, the ticket is punched. “We lost the football game. I don’t care if it was by 30 or by five,” Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said. “I’m not into moral victories. We lost the football game and we need to get better.” Fans here didn't need to set the standard. Bo set the standard himself, and he's not into moral victories. So, he's not satisfied with 11-2, or 10-3, unless one of those wins come in a championship game.

Personally, I also think that being called a petulant child doesn't help get people on board with your way of thinking, either, IMHO.
  12. Don't disagree, and listening to CD on USC yesterday solidified that thought for me too. One thing that I don't agree with is firing a guy mid-season or just prior to a bowl game. Good Lord, if it looked like the team gave up last Saturday, could you imagine.... I will say, though - that SE NOT saying anything is fueling some of this right now. I'm sure he knows what he wants to do already.
  13. Urban Meyer had success as a head coach at Bowling Green and Utah before he was at Florida. No way they hire Frost Kyle Whittingham at Utah is probably going to be a candidate, too.
  14. Michigan couldn't GIVE tickets away right now....that's how bad it's gotten. http://deadspin.com/michigan-pretends-it-isnt-desperate-to-give-away-ticket-1638022015
  15. No, but empty seats in a stadium tells a whole heck of a lot about how unhappy a fan base is. Don't believe me?
  16. With all due respect, you just proved my point with this one line. I was answering someone's question to me on how I would handle a situation as a parent. This thread isn't about how we, as parents, handle different situations. Not trying to get in your business, but I'm sure you had good reasons for holding your son out that only you and you alone can explain to your son. We're not always right as parents, but we strive to be, hopefully. For example, some parents use corporal punishment to discipline their children, some don't. But, that's not the issue here. The issue is how some are treated when they say they are not going to the game because of their dislike for the head football coach. Again, this doesn't speak about the players themselves. Fans have a right to pay or not pay their money into a business.
  17. I wouldn't go just on the simple principle that he was doing one of those stupid 'Harlem Shake' videos.
  18. What guys like Ameer deserved was a better leader so his last games weren't Minnesota and whomever our bowl opponent is on December 28th Bo doesnt have control over the BigTen schedule. And that doesnt excuse the fact that guys like Ameer who has done everything right deserves a full house. I guess what I'm trying to say is it really shouldnt be taken out on the players. Like you said, he's deserved a better leader. Well, he deserves to be applauded for doing everything he could with what he's had. Again, explain to me how a paying fan not going to the game is NOT supporting Ameer? If I'm not mistaken (and someone please correct me if wrong), box receipts don't pay player scholarships at UNL, right? Doesn't that come from endowment money? Lets assume you had a daughter and she had a dance recital coming up. Would you go to it? Funny you say that - I have TWO daughters, actually. Eight and eleven. 20. It's definitely a decision that fans need to make. I'm not a season ticket holder, and I haven't been to a game in quite some time. However....(and this will sound heartless and harsh).... The head football coach gets paid over three million dollars a year to win football games. The assistants get paid whatever they are to assist the head football coach in winning games. Has Bo won plenty of games since he's been here? Yep. Has he won enough games to satiate the paying fans? As I don't own season tickets, I can't answer that for them. But if I were a season ticket holder, I wouldn't go. And it's not an indictment on (or of) the players, either. Let me qualify my statement.... Most players have a full ride scholarship from the university. Those that don't have to earn a scholarship. They still all have to go to class, and for the scholarship athletes, they play football. However, a full ride scholarship isn't even peanuts compared to all of the money and benefits that a head coach and assistant coaches receive. Ameer Abdullah will hopefully, Lord willing, grow into old age. His back will have issues. His knees and other joints will have issues. He's not paid for that. He won't see a dime of the money that the University of Nebraska earned off his likeness. He plays for the love of the game, and is playing to get his degree. Others have different reasons, but they all play because they love the game. Coaches get into coaching for a multitude of different reasons, but the main reason is the same as the players - they love to be around the game. They are paid to do this, people. Millions and millions of dollars. And they've earned the right to do so - they've all paid their dues. Bo is no different. He had to come the hard way up, just like they all did. Coaches also understand....if you're being paid to coach, there is an expectation of WINNING that is placed on you, no matter where you go. Some have higher expectations than others. And the men that coach this sport at the highest of levels understand that it is, after all, a multi-billion dollar business....and each fan that purchases a ticket is buying a share in that business. And in business, if you don't like what you purchased, you have the right to not purchase it again. That's a fan's prerogative. Again, if a fan isn't satisfied with results on the field, they can speak out by not supporting said business. This speaks volumes more than anything else, and unfortunately, because of the way the coaching ranks are (old boys' network), that's the only voice a fan has at times. Nobody is asking the players to go above and beyond what they can do on the field. This football team is a very talented group of young men. They need leadership that can help them reach and understand the potential that they have. And if the fans feel like not going to the games, they don't have to. So please, sir/maam - stop indicating that if a person who pays their good, hard earned money to go see a football game doesn't go - they're not supporting the kids on the field. This just isn't the case, and it's a very old, and wasted argument. Just one man's honest opinion.
  21. Florida's D was never the problem there while Muschamp was the HC. That offense, however, was offensive. For example: Gators Vs. Mizzory Stat lines: And, looking at historical stats - he's had top 10 Defenses 3 out of the 4 years he's been there. I'd even go out on a limb and say he's a better defensive coordinator than our current head coach was.
  22. And here we go.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqkEHXthuzs#t=11
