  1. Who do you think sent the jobs to Asia? Your job creators who you don't want to increase taxes on, that's who. So if we increase taxes on them they will bring the jobs back over here?
  2. Way to save a little for the end guy in black shorts.
  3. How often do trains wreck? Not that damned often. By all means, lets roll some dice on ruining the ground water for a farming state so a few people can make a ton of money. Did you even read the article? "The Arkansas spill was the second incident this week where Canadian crude has spilled in the United States. On Wednesday, a train carrying Canadian crude derailed in Minnesota, spilling 15,000 gallons of oil." Notice the change in units of measure? 15,000 gallons is about 476 barrels. (31.5 gallons to a barrel) There is just a bit more involved to evacuate 22 homes, and create the pic from the top of the thread. The pipeline involved in this leak was 90,000 barrels per day. The XL is planned for 800,000. What is going to be more prone to epic disaster? OK, my bad on not catching the conversion of which one of these were bigger, good catch. At the same time it still isn't a question to which is the most environmentally sound mode of transporting the oil. If 800,000 barrels are demanded to be moved by the pipeline, 800,000 barrels will be demanded by rail if the pipeline isn't built (Warren already said they will move it if someone else doesn't). Nebraska already chose to move the pipeline from the most sensitive area (Sandhills), build the pipeline or we end up putting it right back in it via rail. Out of curiosity, I guesstimated that it would take about 16 trains per day with 50 tank cars each to get 800,000 barrels moved.

  5. I didn't read it, but I'm glad you did. The following article actually says 30,000 gallons: LINK It's funny that the only way I found out about the larger oil spill this week was from a small snippet in an article about the smaller oil spill, the one that's been plastered all over the national media. Pipeline or no pipeline the oil is going to get to Houston one way or another, while none of these accidents are acceptable, I'd much rather it be pipeline. With the new technologies incorporated in future pipelines, it's the most environmentally sound way to transport it whether we are talking spills or the environmental impact of transporting it (diesel engines vs electric pumps). So if you are against the new pipeline you are against the environment, ignorant of the issue, or investing in lots of BNSF stock. This thread will die now. Naaaa, there is plenty of room left in this thread for long winded and meaningless questions to divert from the core issues being discussed.
  6. So I go outside to enjoy the weather with the kids for a while, why oh why did I have to look that up on youtube? That was terrible.

Hamlin out at least six weeks according to Jayski. The only good news is Sadler gets to take his seat in the meantime. Glad to see Elliott back in the cup for a few weeks. IMO I would put him in the top 25 drivers talentwise and he should be racing cup every week. Problem is with NASCAR that the best drivers don't always get to be out there, the drivers who can pull the most sponsors do, so good for Sadler, hope he makes the most out of it. He will definitely have the equipment underneath him to prove he should still be in cup.

Actually, in NASCAR they just stop the race and whoever was ahead is declared the winner. Appeal denied, by the way. Actually in NASCAR they must race to at least halfway which wasn't the comparison I made. Appeal denied, as I predicted earlier. BTW HUGE draw for the US in Azteca last night. Currently sitting third in the table with Mexico below us, Those four points this past week were huge. If we had gotten a draw against CR and a loss against Mexico, we would have been in deep doo doo right now, Would love to see us get at least 6 points in the next three games. Now back to watching the finish of the EPL season.

Denny broke his back. http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/9096962/denny-hamlin-lower-back-compression-fracture No safer barrier on that inside wall. Shame on NASCAR. Thought they would have learned their lessen when Gordon nailed the inside wall at Vegas a few years back.
  12. The preseason hype, sweet 16 hopes at a minimum, talk of elite 8 or better, sniffing the top 10 early in the season.......DONE. You had your chance Jays and you blew it. Don't cry about the seeding, you blew that with that 3 game skid in the Valley. It was still a good season but this was the chance to actually make a splash and you didn't do it. Enjoy fighting for your life getting to .500 in the Big East. The days of only 3-5 conferences loses are now over.

Kyle Busch says thank you very much. If those two hadn't wrecked out, it may have been a real close finish between all three with the momentum Kyle had. I hope Denny is ok, he got out of the car but had to be taken off on a stretcher and then was taken to the hospital. Joey is getting quite a list of guys that aren't too pleased with him right now. That post race interview with Tony was priceless.

Now THAT is the way a NASCAR race is supposed to finish, LOL. Good racing, wrecks and fists!

Even though they sucked, the conditions were much better when the US scored compared to the rest of the game. Watching them kick the ball in the second half made it look like little kids were out there trying to kick it. So Costa Rica should have simply scored a goal in the first 16 minutes of a 90 minute game and all is well is your answer? Really? Isn't that what the US did? Were the conditions different for the two teams? Yes, if you are playing a 16 minute game then all is good I guess. Next time they run the Daytona 500 and there is a thunderstorm after 5 laps, they should just run the rest of the race under caution if they can't dry the track out and whoever was leading after 5 laps wins the race since everyone had a chance to lead the first five laps. The thing about soccer is once you get the lead you can pull your guys back and be much more defensive making it harder for the other team to score. That was magnified even more by the snow. This is the issue Costa Rica has with the match. The US wanted to finish and I don't blame them, they had the lead, but if the roles were reversed there is no doubt they would have been doing the same thing CR did.

If you had watched the game, you would have seen the US score their goal very early when the field conditions were still decent. Costa Rica did not have the same field conditions the rest of the game to try to respond. If CR had scored the early goal instead of the US and ended up winning, the US would be equally pissed that they didn't postpone it. My guess is the protest doesn't get overturned.

Stupid move to have the game in Denver in March. I can understand having it at altitude to help prepare for Mexico City but not someplace where it can still have winter for another month. Costa Rica didn't deserve that but I give them props for giving it the effort they did.
  19. You just answered exactly why an 18 or even 20 team conference is good. This will helps us play the other close teams in our half every year. We should be playing teams like Wisconsin and Illinois every year right now. This will help insure that. Then instead of having three or some years four non conference fluff games, you go to a 10 game conference schedule and play Florida State or GT instead South Dakota State or do you think the Jackrabbits make a better rival for Nebraska? Better schedule, more money, I love it. Big picture people! Eventually factions will form between the two halves as the eastern half notices their area is tougher. Disagreements form and eventually someone suggests "what if we struck out on our own?" the best teams in the east talk about it and realize they haven't much affiliation with the west teams that they play twice a decade, and the conference breaks up. That's the big picture. Yes, they are going to break up and each start making half or even a third of the tv money they were making in the BIG. I think it's time for someone to put down the green beer for the night or at least go back over to shaggy and berate the BIG there. Feel free to reply to me over there too, I don't snitch. Na, I'm a huskerboard guy but please feel free to say the same things you say over there on this board.

Glad to see Kasey get the win. Alan made a terrible call for Jeff with only getting two tires on that stop and it cost him big. Jeff starting the year once again in a big hole, but at least he ran well today. I wish Denny was out of the car when Joey confronted him. I hate it when they yell through the window the the crew breaks it up before it can get good. Still can't get over how empty that place was. Thought the racing was pretty good. Hopefully the fans come back for the night race.

WOW, I can't believe how empty that place is!
  25. One ship over there has enough missiles to take out pretty much all the major buildings in the country. You can almost ID all of them from space, being the only lights in the area at night. Arrogance like this is exactly why we have been in the debacle of Iraq and Afghanistan for the last decade. I'm all for regime change in NK but it will make the Middle East conflicts look like a walk in the park. One million active military (4th largest) and 8 million reserves (largest) all brainwashed. Don't think for a second that shooting some missiles is going to make them throw up the white flag. In fact if it ever goes to a full scale conflict, I would guess a large number of North Koreans would rather die then surrender much like the Japanese in WW II. It wouldn't last as long as Iraq or Afghanistan, but it would be much more bloody. The only way we ever go into NK is if China goes in from the north as an ally and we overwhelm them. I don't think its the same as the Middle East. There is not the 'infidel' aspect to deal with. The outsider part of things really complicated the Iraq and Afghanistan situations, and were flat out ignored beforehand. And those wars had little influence from regional powers. NK would have South Korea, Japan, and most likely China all involved. Brainwashed sure. Large army sure. They may claim to have an army that large. They do not have the logistic capability to feed and supply said army. Starving people have historically surrendered pretty quickly. They have very limited infrastructure and taking it out and reducing NK to more or less a WWII era nation would be quick. Annihilating the actual army would not be that hard, if we wanted to do that, air superiority happens almost instantly, and you can not win a real war in the modern era without wining the skies. If you remember, taking out the actual armies in Iraq and Afghanistan went real quick, it was matters after the armies were defeated that caused was the clusterF. and that is exactly what would happen in NK, except on steroids http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_People's_Army "Despite the general fuel and ammunition shortages for training, it is estimated that the wartime strategic reserves of food for the army are sufficient to feed the regular troops for 500 days, while fuel and ammunition - amounting to 1.5 million and 1.7 million tonnes respectively - are sufficient to wage a full-scale war for 100 days" So that debunks that assumption and then we haven't even brought up nukes and chemical weapons http://en.wikipedia....ass_destruction In 2010, it was reported that North Korea has chemical weapons, which could cause millions of casualties in South Korea, where gas masks are only provided to the military and top government officials. Ignorance is bliss.
