  1. I mean, I get FAU because of Bo and Carl, but South Alabama? Florida Atlantic a few years ago, Arkansas State, Troy...... Why are we always scheduling Sun Belt teams? It just seems odd.
  2. I was hoping this is what you were going to say. So Quade's 17 years of being a manager in the minors in Double and Triple A probably did nothing for him. I'd ignore the two manager of the year awards that he won as well. Four years as a first base coach under Art Howe and two and a half as a third base coach under Pinella probably didn't help him learn a thing either. So gonna chalk that example as an epic fail. His failure as the Cubs manager had way more to do with retarded contracts and failed trades that Hendry was tossing out. An old team is not a good thing. I better example would have been going "full retard" on the White Sox for hiring Robin Ventura to manage. Now there is someone with NO experience And as a huge Sox fan, I was at Main Street in Lincoln when I found out they hired Ventura and I thought I was going to kill someone.....BRUTAL hire. Let me just say...hahahaahahahaahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  3. I didn't even notice that, but you're right. I did hear David Rivers' name mentioned at one point, but he certainly hasn't allowed the youngsters to play even in the biggest of blowouts. Just did a little checking and he doesn't use his bench in blowout wins either. Against Illinois, Caleb Walker and Bo Spencer both logged 30 minutes or more. Niemann led the second tier guys with 8 minutes and none of the other backups even played 5 minutes. Considering how old this team is, you'd think he'd get the youngsters some junk time. Also, did Doc CALL a single timeout? If he did it was late in the 2nd half when I stopped watching. Yes he called several. Including in the first half. Alright, I didn't notice or see that. I saw media timeouts, but not ones called by Doc.

Not entirely sure how it's remotely relevant to the Huskers, but congrats all the same. You brought it up and epically failed. Enjoy the misery and self loathing. Go Big Red
  5. I really don't think TO can keep him at this point unless he wins out. You think Devaney is empty now? Wait until the entire fanbase is monumentally disappointed with the announcement that Doc is returning. I mean hell, even our "impressive" win over Illinois was clearly due more to a team that has quit on their coach more than Doc suddenly figuring out how to coach. I'll admit, Sipple's article scared the bejesus out of me, because Tom is just incompetent enough as an AD to think Strickland as HC is a good idea. Hell he's already done it once with our baseball team. I mean, god forbid we hire someone who never played or coached at NU!?!?!?!!?! Greg Marshall intrigues me. I've got to admit, Butler's coach doesn't. I know what he did with them, and i was as impressed as anyone, but he runs a slow it down, lull the other team to sleep kind of approach that I really don't want to see any more of. I would think a dynamic offensive attack in the Big Ten could make some real noise. So you are going to judge a new coaching staff by the first 3 games? What if the 9th inning meltdowns did not occur and we hung on for wins? Would Erstad be an early success? Fool... No, I'm judging the fact that Tom hired a head coach who had no real coaching experience by the fact that he hired a head coach with no real coaching experience.
  6. Because we're leaving them wide open. Doc is just lost. I don't think you can pin a team's hot shooting streak *entirely* on Doc. Like last night. I'm not saying we played lights-out great defense. But at least our guys had a hand in their face on nearly every tray they shot. And they were still sinking them. I dunno, man. That was as bad of defense as I have seen Nebraska play in a long time. Granted, I don't watch a whole lot of basketball games, but Gumber is right, their guys were wide open. It was like a casual shoot-around for Purdue all... night.... long. And this was supposedly spending the last 10 days "focusing" on defense. i would have hate to have seen how many Purdue would have put up if we hadn't
  7. You don't know that. Only way you do is if you are Osborne, which you aren't. While it is "unlikely" that he has made that ultimatum, it really can't be proven. All I know is that one of the basketball student managers said last Thursday that Doc felt comfortable that he was coming back next year and was acting like he is. Although, he really HAS to act like he is just in case he is. I am, in fact, Tom Osborne. Nice to meet you. Well then quit messing around and fire our massively incompetent basketball coach.
  8. Because we're leaving them wide open. Doc is just lost.

  10. Aww How cute, you've come up with a nickname for me.
  11. "The Huskers, who said they had worked extensively on defense in practice the past 10 days, saw Purdue make 17 of its first 25 shots and shoot 54.5 percent (30 of 55) for the game." Just......wow
  12. Excellent argument, now let's examine where it's not remotely relevant. First there's the obvious, that being that college coaches are actually tasked with taking 17, 18 year old kids and molding them into players. Major League managers make in game decisions but have very little to do with molding grown men into players. There's also the complete lack of actual recruiting and player assessment doesn't play nearly as large a role since the GM puts together the roster. While Matheny had no managerial experience he had spent the last several years as an instructor in the Cardinals organization. In other words, he still has more coaching experience than Darin Erstad. And finally, the Cardinals didn't just finish last in the NL Central for the third straight year and weren't arguably at the franchise's lowest point in two decades. They didn't need someone to come in and turn things around. The Cardinals just needed someone they could hand the torch to. The Huskers didn't just win the College World Series, they needed someone who could come in and turn around the program and our AD picked someone who has no idea what that takes. And finally, you're comparing the Erstad hiring to a hiring that could be one of the worst decisions the Cardinals have made in 40 years. I mean it could end up being EPICALLY stupid. The Cubs handed their manager job to a dude who had never been a major league manager last year. Turned out he was in way...way...WAY over his head. So in other words....holy god was that a bad example. So lets recap here.......Your saying managing players that are 18-21 is harder than managing 24-38 year old's?? give me a break If your going to sit there and say that MLB managers have no say in who is brought in then you're even more clueless about baseball then I thought. For example, The Cards starting CF last year Colby Rasmus had talent through the roof, however, he didn't want to take advice from Tony or any of the other coaches. So guess what happened next they ship him off to Toronto for 5 players that ultimately helped them win a ring. It's not like DE is totally in charge of everything...........If you'd pay attention to things he says like "I'll be leaning heaving on my assistants this year to help me out" Your agenda is starting to poke it's ugly head out Oh and if being an special instructor for spring training is better than being an assistant coach for a season then I guess you got me there And seriously, using what the Cardinals did, as an example as to why Erstad was a good hire, when most people were rather surprised they did it AND before you have any idea whether or not it was actually a GOOD idea is just.....dumb I'm a huge Cardinal fan and I think the Matheny hire was a great one..........Just as I think Erstad was I'm shocked, SHOCKED that you think I have to agree with everything the current AD does or stop following the school altogether.
  13. C'mon...it's not like it's a NU football game and Bo leaves the starters in during a blowou....umm...oh. Doc and Bo are supposedly good friends. Their complete lack of interest in playing reserves seems to be a something they've bonded over.
  14. I didn't even notice that, but you're right. I did hear David Rivers' name mentioned at one point, but he certainly hasn't allowed the youngsters to play even in the biggest of blowouts. 15. When did I say I knew Erstad was going to be a good coach? I said he has potential. Its a pity your not willing to see what he becomes and you judge his coaching performance and want him fired after three games. At least wait til the season is over and then if they still stink and have not improved at all, then your opinion may have a little more substance. Just a quick question for the Husker fans that listened/watched the games this weekend. Did you see any improvement at all from last season to the beginning of this season? if the answer is yes, that improvement happened in little over a month. Just imagine the improvement by May. Sounds to me like they have improved and just need to find someone to close. Jesus H. Christ. I didn't say I wanted him fired after three games. In fact, I hope he succeeds. See guy who says I keep repeating myself? This is why I have to keep repeating myself because guys like Foppa and Po Belini keep claiming I'm saying something I NEVER EFFING SAID. One last time. I didn't want him here. Now that he's here I hope he succeeds, I just don't think he will. I think hiring him will eventually set the program back further. So would firing him after three games. so would firing him after this season....happy now? Do you freaking comprehend what I'm saying yet? I'm curious, what improvement do you think you heard, since you clearly didn't watch the games? I'm honestly curious because I don't know how you could possibly make that assumption, especially since we still had bullpen, defensive, baserunning and hitting with RISP problems. Where SPECIFICALLY do you think we improved? You keep having to repeat yourself because nothing you say adds up to anything but hatred and confrontation and you're mad that you get called on it. Just curious if your hometown is Tehran, Iran...you sound like someone I've heard about on the news... "We don't have an agenda to build nuclear weapons!" response when questioned... "No you can't see what we're doing!" No! We're peaceful! We're innocent!" response when questioned... "No you can't see what we're doing! Why don't you just take us at our word! We love everyone!" "I've said nothing to make you think what we're doing is wrong!" response when questioned... "You still can't prove we're doing anything wrong, and we're willing to attack you if you second-guess us..." This thread is about as broken as it can be. Good luck and GBR in Corpus Christi guys. If you had even a modicum of reading comprehension, it would add up. What exactly is tripping you up? The part where I never called for Erstad to be fired? Or the part where I didn't say he should be fired after three games? Maybe i can help. PS Excellent analogy. Totally relevant.
  16. I wouldn't have to "remind" people of my opinion of Erstad if people didn't either mischaracterize what I was saying, flat out lie about what I was saying, or claim I don't understand baseball because of what I was saying. I'm not sure what you want me to say about the Cubs analogy. I thought it was fairly obvious I was talking about Mike Quade, who had never been a manager before taking over the interim duties in 2010 and then going full time in 2011. He was in WAY, WAY, WAY over his head last year and it was freaking obvious.

We improved in the fact that we don't have dumbass Anderson in the dugout anymore, and now we have a guy who is passionate about the university because he is a Nebraska alum, and has also played on a team that won the World Series. We also improved because Silva is the best pitching coach that Nebraska has had since Childress left. I'm sorry, are you honestly trying to claim that Anderson didn't give a crap about the University or winning? I mean, he was a crappy coach but he wanted to win as much as anyone. Are you really trying to claim that a dude (Erstad) who spent four (five?) years here as a student then came back a season ago as an assistant cares more about the University than a dude who has been a coach in one position or another at the University for what? 15-20 years? REALLY????? On the scale of dumb assertions, this is an 11.

  19. It's interesting to hear the Big Ten Channel announcers desperately trying to paint a rosey picture of the game for the Huskers. I guess they can't be too negative about a conference team, but this loss isn't "bad luck"

  21. You mean we can return to the discussion no one was having? Awesome Your rhetoric indicates you had him fired from day one, but since your opinion isn't worth anything to anyone at UNL, I guess you'll just have to keep hoping and hating. No my rhetoric has specifically been that I didn't want him hired period. Now that he's hired, I hope he's successful. I just don't think he will be. I keep saying this, and you guys keep claiming I'm saying something else entirely.
  22. Congrats on being a successful coach. Clearly you know what it takes to win at whatever level you are at. That doesn't mean you KNOW that Erstad will succeed. If "knowledge of the game" was the sole factor in whether a coach is successful or not, then every former player in the NFL, NBA and MLB would be tremendously successful coaches 100% of the time. Since you're a coach, I would think you would know that quite a bit more goes into it than that but whatever....I get it, you like Erstad and you're offended that I don't think he'll succeed and because I'm not a coach or former major leaguer I'm not entitled to my opinion. Duly noted.
  23. You mean we can return to the discussion no one was having? Awesome
  24. If that was actually the ultimatum made, then Osborne is screwing up yet again. It's readily apparent that this team is moving in the wrong direction. Winning 3 of our of last 5 doesn't change that. I really hope that isn't actually the case.
  25. Apparently you didn't read my post very well, so Ill say it again. If you have knowledge of the game (Erstad obviously does since he played in MLB, you obviously don't because your freaking out after a few games) you have an opportunity to become a great coach once you find the strategy you want to use and which situations work best for the team. Obviously he is not going to figure it all out after three games, but when he does, I can guarantee we will never see you post on Huskerboard again. I understood your post just fine. I don't agree with it. Not agreeing with you doesn't mean I don't understand what you said. Yes he was a major league player. Yes he MIGHT be able toi translate what made him great into being a great coach. We have absolutely no idea if he will because we (meaning everybody) have no idea what kind of a coach he is. I'll just say this again, though why I have to is beyond me. This is NOT a reaction to the three game sweep. I was not in favor of the hire WHEN IT HAPPENED. The three game sweep doesn't prove me right any more than had we won all three I would have been proved wrong. HOWEVER there were plenty of mistakes that might not have been made with another more experienced head coach. We'll see going forward whether he's right for the job. If we win, I'll be here, and you'll be claiming I'm a fairweather fan, and you'll be full of crap then too. COOL STORY BRO, and use of capitals. We heard you the 19765th time. If we would have swept the series, I GUARANTEE you would not be in a game discussion thread saying how you thought it was a bad hire. Frankly, if this hire has you THIS butthurt, then why not go barking down the doors of the AD office? Whining on a message board isn't going to change a whole lot, sport. "We heard you the 19765th time" If any of the people who I responded to had acted like they heard me instead of saying "you're only grumpy because we got swept and you don't understand the baseball season" then I wouldn't have had to say it 19,765 times. "Whining on a message board isn't going to change a whole lot, sport." I guess I didn't get the memo that message boards are ONLY for being positive. Duly noted. Chief. "I GUARANTEE you would not be in a game discussion thread saying how you thought it was a bad hire." Sure I would. I'm fairly certain I said it in the thread of the first game when we were ahead. It would be more along the lines of "But I hope this keeps hope" than, "but I hope I'm wrong." but if we win the next 50 games, I'll still say I thought at the time that this was a bad hire. If we win the next 50 games I'll also say it appears I was wrong but.....
