  1. If you saw Peat go against the #1 DE prospect in the nation (Mario Edwards--a FSU commit) in the Under Armor All-American game you wouldn't be saying that. Peat absolutely dominated Edwards one on one and showed tremendously quick feet feet in pass blocking and effective run blocking skills. Peat will be a 3 or 4 year starter for Stanford, barring any unforseen circumstances.
  2. 13 reps?. 5.67 40? What, did Jones forget to work out the last four years at NU? This combine probably cost him a million or so over the next several years. I watched Marcel Jones run the 40 and gawd he looked awful. I mean I understand he's a big kid, but a 5.67 40? Really? Watching Marcel Jones run, hearing he only did 13 reps, and seeing that he didn't even place in the top 10 in any event... ...I just realized that's probably why Nebraska struggled to run the ball at times. They're soft and weak up front. I thought I'd never say that about a Bo Pelini coached team.
  3. I certainly think this quashes the notion that Nebraska doesn't have talent on the roster.
  4. I disagree. The business example only works to a certain degree. Football, probably moreso than any other sport or profession, is about teaching/mentoring those under you, regardless if you are a coach or player. A head football coach has to be as much of a CEO as he does a mentor, especially to young assistants on his staff. That's why I applaud Bo and his approach. He's not afraid to recognize talent and help a person get started in the coaching profession. But I guess we live in a world where the predominant thought is, well somebody gave me an opportunity when I was young and had no experience but I'll be damned if I'll ever recipocate.
  5. LOL...That's the way it should be in theory. The reality is quite different.
  6. Nebraska certainly does not have elite talent, but we put a lot of kids into the NFL and the numbers bear this out. I think Nebraska often gets overlooked as an NFL ticket type of school because we don't have 3 to 4 kids taken in the first round like Miami, North Carolina, Alabama, USC, etc have had. Further, I like the way Bo recruits: He tells kids that if they come to Nebraska, do what the coaches ask, on and off the field, that if they truly have NFL potential it'll take care of itself. NFL scouts are pretty thorough and if a kid has talent, regardless of where he plays, they'll usually find him.

  8. I came to an odd conclusion? Okay. Here's what I don't understand: you want continuity on the Nebraska coaching staff and yet you're essentially against hiring from within and the basis is lack of experience? In terms of a proven track record, let's say that Bo wants to hire a proven coordinator from Alabama to take over as DC. Why would proven coordinator in this hypothetical situation take what amounts to a lateral move? Wouldn't said coordinator only leave for a head position the majority of the time? So let's say Bo hires an outstanding position coach from Alabama to be his DC. Doesn't it make sense that once that position coach gets experience as a coordinator that he'll be looking for a head coaching position within 3-5 years, if not sooner, any way? I dunno, maybe I'm just obtuse here. I think Bo is very smart, he's doing what he thinks will give the Huskers the best opportunity for success next season and beyond, and I think that before we pronounce Papuchis a "bad hire" or anything else we should probably wait to see how it pans out. Proven track record of past success does not guarantee future success, just as having no experience means no future success is possible. EDIT: And could you explain how the hiring of Papuchis is good if he stays here 10+ years but it is bad if he leaves after 2-3? I'm a little fuzzy on that particualr train of thought.
  9. People leave companies for a variety of reasons but typically advancement and more money are the usual ones. If you have an outstanding junior developer then why wouldn't you at least consider promoting him or her? Why not give the junior a reason to stay as opposed to a reason to leave? It sounds like, and this is merely conjecture on my part, that you treat the juniors in your company like they're not worth much and completely expendable. Nothing will foment disloyalty, and leaving at the first chance one gets, than to not be appreciated by upper management or the owner of the company. Now if I'm wrong or off base then I apologize, but that's the way your post comes across. In relation to college football, any coach worth his salt wants to be a head coach. Very few, in fact probably only a tiny minority, are actually happy with being lifetime assistants. Now coaches that get a head gig, don't make it, and then realize it's better to be an assistant are more numerous. But this notion of having a coaching staff intact for 10, 15, 20+ years is almost unheard of anymore.
  10. The fact that nearly every hire has come from within his inner circle of buddies. It's not top secret. You can argue whether or not it's good/bad if you want, but the truth is he's not the guy that would ever bring in someone too far from the outside...regardless of how proven that person is. I own businesses, so I look at college football more from a business side. I want the best people working for me. A lot of people defend Bo's hiring by talking about the "coaching circle" and all this and that...but ultimately he's the CEO of an $80 million business. If the CEO of a company did nothing but promote from within and hire buddies...eventually the business dies. You can't innovate or evolve without bringing in outside ideas. And if as the CEO you aren't open to those things, it's only a matter of time before you begin to see the little chinks forming in your armor. EDIT: actually Tom is probably the CEO - Bo is the Executive VP of Product Development...which means he needs to be even more innovative. Just about all football coaches hire people they already know or have some kind of connection with and to say this is somehow unique to Bo is simply not true. Okay I certainly understand your analogy. But businesses, especially the successful ones, usually have a promote from within policy. That's not to say they always promote from within but they give interested internal candidates a good long look before they hire an "outsider." Look at it this way, how hard do you think people work for you if they know you'll never promote them? They'll work and put in just enough effort to keep their job(s) or not to get fired. Why would your employees go above and beyond when there's absolutely no reward? The company I work for has a promote from within policy. Meaning when a top position opens up interested and qualified candidates are interviewed and at least given an opportunity to advance. Then an "outsider" is brought in to fill the vacancy left by the person being promoted. In my opinion that's good business practices and it makes me, and the people I work with, bust our humps to advance. Bo does it the same way and I have no problem whatsoever with it.

Further, I challenged the substance of your post which was to dispute the fact that Bo "doesn't interview" and that he can't "get along" with an ever increasing list of fellow coaches. I'm simply disputing what you typed. It's your opinion fine, so what is the basis for your opinion?
  12. Some fans really are hilarious. They want to see Nebraska play Alabama, LSU, Southern Cal and Oklahoma in addition to our league schedule. Look at Alabama's 2011 non conference schedule: Penn State, Kent State, North Texas and Georgia Southern. That's about as soft of a non-conference schedule as any team can get.
  13. 1. How do you know what Bo does when there is an opening on his staff? Are you in the room or a part of the process? 2. Bo is tremendously respected within the football coaching community because other football understand all the complexities which go into coaching. To say that most or a majority of other coaches are starting to "dislike" Bo, as evidenced by your dwindling comment, is simply wrong. And if you believe your assertion is correct I'd like to see your evidence. Football coaches are some of the most intense competitors there are and guys like Nick Saban, Les Miles, Bob Stoops, Will Muschamp, Lane Kiffin, et al are just as fiery and intense as Bo.
  14. Defensive genius only goes so far if the players can't execute. I think Bo should just simplify his approach and just let his players attack. Bo's match-up zone principles are now being used by almost every college football team. That speaks to the quality of what Bo is doing, imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. It's kind of hard for a QB to get into any kind of rhythm when he spends every snap running for his life. To wit, Michigan State blitzed and harrassed Michigan's Dennard Robinson into a plethora of mistakes and the Spartans won. Conversely, Nebraska layed back in coverage, played soft, and was demolished.
  15. The transition from tractor to automobile isn't always seamless. Perhaps Terrell Pryor could loan us one of the numerous cars he was illegally given while at Ohio State so we could learn?
  16. Remember how every team shuts down Taylor? Load the box, blitz him the whole time. It's tough to get in a rhythm. It's ironic that we have, for 2 years now...watched defenses frequently shut down Taylor by loading the box yet, even though I can't remember the last time we neutralized a mobile QB, we refuse to do it. What's that definition of insanity again....?.... Which is why I think that Nebraska will lose to Ohio State, Northwestern, and Michigan this year. All three of those teams employ fast, mobile QBs and well, I think hell will freeze over before Bo blitzes or attacks on defense.

  19. Huskerlambs had a good idea. Staying at a fraternity if you or any of your buddies were in a frat and they have a house on UNLs campus. What about staying at a hostel? I'm not sure if one is even in Lincoln but it might be worth looking into. Honestly I think you should stay at a hotel downtown. It is definitely going to be more expensive but the ease and convenience of being within walking distance of everything will simplify the process immensely.
  20. When I see someone post "I want Bo gone" it rubs me the wrong way. Bo is an excellent football coach and getting rid of him at this junction would be the absolute worst thing we could do. Now the Wisconsin fan in question may have been kidding or being sarcastic...and if he was fine. But I've been on other sites where the sentiment among certain members is that they DO want Bo gone which is completely ridiculous. I can't imagine why anyone would want to get rid of a head coach who has won 38 games in four years. And finally, your assumption of me based on my thus far limited number of posts is interesting to say the least. And when I say interesting I mean tedious. Look, I'm not trying to be antagonistic here but it seems that you're judging me based on post count-which isn't exactly definitive criteria.
  21. I also think that there's a high probability that Nebraska loses to Ohio State this fall. 1. The game is in Columbus. 2. Bo will play his usual rush four, drop seven scheme thereby allowing B. Miller to run around and buy time to find receivers open down the field. Or Miller will simply take off and run. Now if Bo decides to blitz and attack the OSU offense the Huskers have a shot. If they lay back and try to play coverage it'll be like the game against Michigan in Ann Arbor last year. Close for a half and then boom the floodgates open and the final score ends up being lopsided.
