  1. Thank you. It's about time someone said it. The Big 10 is wholly overrated. Let's hear someone talk about that for once on National Television!
  2. First: the correct spelling of the word is "due." Second: I agree, I've been waiting for it, and I think against Mizzou it is high time we had ourselves a touchdown from our explosive D.
  3. but that is the point, he is Nameless, thus he could never name his sources. It might come back to haunt him, so that we might know who he is.
  4. Watch what you say there, you could be saying the same thing about us. All of our big games have been at home.
  5. It is perfectly understandable to want to win every game you play. Heck I want the Huskers to come out and blow out every team they play. That in itself is no problem. But since you are so into the past, let me (someone who is new to the message board, not being a Huskers fan) enlighten you on a few points. First, let's not forget our Husker history. Yes Osborne was a very good coach, and when he took over the Devany team, he wasn't planning on making monumental changes. He took over a number 4-ranked Nebraska team, and then made them into a 9-2-1 team. No, this is not bad, especially when considering the past several years. Yet, at the time everyone in the Husker Nation was openly questioning Osborne and whether or not he could make our team into a Championship team. You said that you want and demand perfection out on the field and that losing is unacceptable. As I said earlier, every team but a very few loses a game. Do you know when the first time Osborne was capable of making his team that one that manages the perfection you demand was? What about Devany? I do. Osborne had to coach 22 seasons before he was able to make our team undefeated. Devany had to wait 10 out of his 11 years of coaching to have an undefeated team, that is, unless you count the year before when the Huskers were 11-0-1. But wait! That tie isn't a win, and we must always win. And let's not forget that there are no ties anymore. Who knows what would have happened in overtime, we might have lost, and that would have been unacceptable! I am not saying that Devany or Osborne are bad coaches during this period. I am simply pointing out that even these great coaches that made our football team consistently great were unable to provide immediate perfection, and they weren't completely overhauling the offensive strategy. A loss, as you said, is a loss. Yet the point that I, and many others on this message board are trying to make is that Texas Tech did not beat us. Several people have pointed it out on this thread themselves. There were several key times when we screwed up and gave the football game to Texas Tech, but after the first 20 minutes we looked like we were the best football team on the field. That says a lot for having been down 21-0 at the beginning of the game. This was the best team we have played thus far in the season, and it doesn't look like we have another opponent of that caliber until a possible Big IX Championship game. I'm not saying that the rest of the football teams we play will be easy, nor should we take their talent for granted. Yet, as Huskers fans, we don't have to take our own talent for granted either. A loss is a loss, and during the first minutes of the game after Tech was up 14-0 on us, I thought that the game was a lost cause. When it was 21-0 I was sure that it was curtains for the Scarlet and Cream. Yet, it wasn't. This is a different kind of loss than the ones that we have seen over the last several years. This is a loss where the team with the most heart, and by all accounts looked like the best team for the most time of the field, came up empty and lost the game. If this was our season under either Devany or Osborne you would have said that this was an unfortunate occurrence, but you would not be attacking the coaches and players and speaking of the freakin' past! If you are so caught up in how great the Huskers were in the past, then the last several years must have eaten you up. I know they did for me. Then, when I see consistent, constant improvement from our team that has looked like it might become a perennial powder-puff, I will look at a game well played and realize that our team has the makings of a great one. So instead of having my head in the clouds and in the past, I am going to, yes, look into the future. Yet, you seem to misunderstand me when I say this is what I am doing. I am not looking into the distant future as you are looking into the distant past. I am looking at the future of this team this season, and I am seeing great potential for a great year. So why bitch and moan about this one loss. Every team but 9 has at least one loss at this point. And the way our boys have been playing, with better and more gelled tenacity every week, I am looking forward to only good things for this team. Maybe you don't. But, you know what, that just might mean that you are "newer" at this whole "being a fan" thing, and supporting your team. If you really are disgusted with the way that the Huskers played last Saturday, that is your prerogative, but I will not buy into your school of thought. I have faith in this team at this moment with these players and these coaches. Because I don't live in the past, I live for great Husker football here and now. And this is the most promising team I have seen for a long time. Our next task is in Waco, so let's GO HUSKERS!!!
  6. Look guys. I am new to this whole kinda thing, and I probibly don't know as much as most of you guys out there, but I do have a couple words of "wisdom," if you can call it that. This post is meant for all the guys out there who are still complaining about the fact that we didn't win against Tech. How many of you guys out there thought we would look this good after the first three games? How many of you would be able to say that you thought we would be able to run with Tech after those games? How many of you thought we would be able to come back to be leading the game in the end after being down 21-0 after a few minutes into the second quarter? How many people thought we Oklahoma weren't going to be the powerhouse team we thought it would be, and in turn wouldn't be an immediate loss for us at the beginning of the season? Now the big one: How many people thought we would be undefeated at the end of the season at the beginning of the season? If you did, I love your enthusiasm, but I doubt that is the worst case scenario for you. Yeah, a loss is a loss, and guess what, teams get 'em all the time. There will only be a handful of undefeated teams at the end of the season, and even though we lost, we have the potential to have only a few more losses, and instead of getting all upset about a single loss that, as has been said, was our game but for one fall to the ground by an excited player, we should be thinking positive about the rest of the season and what our boys can do. So don't get all uptight about the loss, think good thoughts about the future. Sorry, just my personal opinion. My rant is done.
  7. So everyone the new rankings are out, and guess what! People who are voting for these things neither watch the games, nor listen to people who did. Tech has moved up a few in the rankings and Nebraska has lost more in the way of votes. This whole system is BS. Huskers showed that they are a team that is capable of feats of excellence and this is the response. A loss, ok. Yet, this was not a defeat. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Look at it for yourself at: ESPN College Football Rankings
  8. I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think we could run with anyone. Our D is solid, and after a shaky start got back into the game, and hte O is looking better and better with each passing week. I think our team is looking the best it has in the past several years. I look forward to even more improvement as the season progresses and eventually, as the team gets more settled into this style. Most of my past grievences aside, I think our team keeps getting better and better, and the rest of the country is becoming more and more mediocre. Huskers might be on top again as soon as next year! Let's go Huskers!
  9. Yah know, I've posted a few things against Callahan in the past, and I have been impatient with what I deemed to be a defunct offense, but you know, this whole thing has gotten out of hand. I am an ex-debater, and very rarely learn when to admit that I was WRONG about something, but I think I need to admit a few things: I was WRONG about Callahan's attitude towards adapting to the team he was playing. It looked a lot like that was the truth in early games. We would continue doing an offensive game plan that wasn't capable of making yards, nor touchdowns. Yet, after this game, and the adaptations that BC made in order to get back into this game, I'd say that his head was totally in this game. I was WRONG about his inability to fire up our Husker team. From past games we would play really well until halftime and look like s**t for the rest of the game. This was not the case in either of the two last games, especially not in this one. Tech was not prepared for the Cornhusker spirit when they stepped onto the field after half-time. Callahan must have made one hell of a halftime speech. I was WRONG about the system being too complex for Taylor and the receivers to understand. Whatever BC has been doing to teach them, they are getting it better and better with every successive week. This is the most positive aspect I have seen over the last two weeks. I was WRONG about BC being too inept to understand where the flaws were in our team during games and fixing the problems in practice. This was always a trumped up charge, but BC showed through the last several games that he knew where the weaknesses lay. Our team was able to score points in the redzone, which we haven't been good at for the past several years. In the end, I was WRONG about a lot of things. I will have the grace to admit that. Our boys are looking more and more like Big XII North Champs every week, and by then, who knows? We might even have the chops to run with Texas. We first need to get there. The most positive aspect I saw in this last game was IMPROVEMENT!!! In the past several years it seemed our team got worse throughout the season, but this year, we are looking better and better against tougher and tougher opponents. I look forward to a more productive year, and I sincerely apologize for some of my previous comments. I am a Huskers fan through and through, and all I want is for our team to perform to the best of their ability. I think we are rising up to that challenge with every week. GO HUSKERS!!!
  10. I concur... I want more victims to come to Lincoln.... BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Personally, I'd like to see the Huskers go find thier victims. Road games should be fun, and I think, like the Viking longboats, our team will slink in in the dead of night and slaughter some women and children! Ooh. Kinda gross visual. Let's go Huskers!
  11. I was gonna say it, but you beat me to it. Iowa State was a big game and we pulled it out. We will continue to do so! Husker domination!
  12. yeah, especially after they whooped up on the poor pityful Jayhawks. I'm ready to stuff it right down the Red Raider's throats!
  13. Just to discuss the Texas Tech offense, the Red Raiders are not that good offensively. Yes, they have been able to put up astounding numbers against weak opponents. Yet, even aside from their pure point total, and the weakness of the teams they have been playing, it is a simple fact that their offensive playbook contains very little besides the run, run, run, LONG BOMB!!! approach to it. With a quarterback that is decent, and wide receivers that are capable of distancing themselves on the occasions when it is necessary, it is relatively easy to run up the score on an unsuspecting defense. Ours will not be an unsuspecting defense. We should be ready for that game defensively, it will be, as others have said, up to our offense to step up and play good ball. Yet, before this discussion even occurs, I would like to see what happens in Lincoln on Saturday. Then I'll give my honest appraisal of the situation. Go Huskers!!
  14. Well, I must apologize for some of my disparaging comments earlier in the week. I'm not so sure if Nebraska is really as out of this next game as I previously thought. Iowa State versus Army was one of the most lukewarm football game performances I have seen by either side in quite some time. This means that our mediocrity will clash and I think our far superior defense will make the difference in the game next week, and I think we will be able to pull out of this winners in the end. Here is looking at 4-0 for the beginning of the season!
  15. ISU - 17 NU - 10 Passing - 110 yrds Rushing - 140 yrds
  16. But BC is trying his hardest to make it the authentic WCO anyway. If he has his druthers, we will be quickly.
  17. I dunno, I've never played football, but I do act onstage. My memory is pretty good, especially when concerning where I am supposed to go on a given moment onstage, but I'm not sure if I was one of the recievers if I could remember all of these plays and retain the principal of getting open. It takes a highly focused and trained team to get all of this together, and I'm going to make the blanket statement that our boys are going to have a problem with for awhile until it all sinks in. Going back to what I have said over and over, simplifying expectations should result in more retension in the long term, and hopefully more offensive production. Thanks for the link, it really helped. Look at this carefully, and realize it will take some time before our boys will be able to fully comprehend what a Zebra Solo Right Plus - 2 Jet Flaker Drive is. Simplify, or be content to have no offense until the players are capable of comprehended this scheme, which could have us waiting for a long time.
  18. My my you are angry. I don't believe there is any need for personal attacks. The members who are posting here are not being bad, nor even fairweather, fans. If you have a bone to pick it would be with me, as I was the one who named this little section, so you might be mad at me. Please look some two posts above yours and you will see that I apologize about naming the section what it is. My reaction was simply out of pure frustration after watching the depressing victory over Pitt this past weekend. I believe that others would agree that there was some reason for a bit of malaise, yes? Thus, don't call us fair-weathered fans, or say that we are not in support of this team. If anything we are simply stating what we feel to be obvious, even in your mind, as is evidenced from your post: something must be done to improve this team that has a potential to be much better than they are looking right now. My personal take is that the O-line combined with some poor use of the WCO is causing this current downslide into mediocrity. Look over our posts, and realize that we are not fair-weather fans at all. I go to school at KU, and have for several years, during the Mangino climb, as the Huskers have descended further and further into mediocrity. While my other former Husker bretheren have shirked their team in favor of their school. I have remained true to the Huskers through all this up to this point, I believe I will continue to do so until I shake off this mortal coil. A Husker from birth to death. I just want to see our team reach the full potential I think they have for this year. Let next year be next year, let's improve this year while we still can. Go Huskers!
  19. Sentinal, I find myself agreeing with you 100% again. The WCO offense we is NFL and not college, and adjustments need to be made. You have a good head on your shoulders as far as I can see.
  20. Well, as I was the one who titled the post, I suppose I should defend the "sucking" bit. I agree, the team does not suck. There are aspects that do, but the team does not. I agree. I simply had to get people's attention. I feel I did that, unless I am very much mistaken. So I apologize again.
  21. Oh no. I agree that Mussberger's announcing was biased, but I was saying it wasn't his job to swing the cameras left and right to show what was happening on the field any any particular point in time. And as for televised viewings of the games vs. actually being there: man... don't rub it in.
  22. this isnt USC, not USC's players, and not USC's coaches so its totally uncompareable. the fact that they run a similar offense=nothing, possibly its the way it is being presented is where the problem is. teams all over the nation run the WCO of some sort, but dont seem to struggle nearly as bad as the players here have, youll never convince me they cant figure out how to line up for a snap because they are all too stupid to understand. this offense will work, has worked, and will continue to work. there seems to be a problem with players not understanding and that has nothing to do with talent level, that is just basic IQ. if the coaching staff can get the players to understand the offense will produce something, low talent level or not we should have put op more points in the first three games against suspect defenses. Trust me, I'm not calling our boys stupid. I agree with you 100% that there is a coaching problem. Just adapt and change to the situation. The fact that there should have been more points on the board doesn't excuse the fact that there weren't more points scored. So the coaching staff need to find something that will work.
  23. ... are you saying ABC sports didn't show the whole story. that Brent Pussberger may be... dare i say... biased? ... i... i don't know what to think any more. Now let's be fair. I hate Mussberger as much as the next Husker, but to be honest, any unfair coverage wouldn't be his fault. He just announces the games, he doesn't determine what camera will be used at what time. Different guy's job. Perhaps he was biased, I don't know, but Mussberger wasn't to blame.
  24. At least recognizing it, and making sure it doesn't happen again, and again, and again, and again, and again. Some bit of coaching, I think, would have helped. Call me crazy.
  25. But, the likelyhood of them scoring with the 4 man was a lot less than with that of the 3 man. Yet, you are right. At least we won. No matter how pitifully. I just hope and pray improvement is in sight.
