  1. Nobody is giving businesses "permission" to pollute other than other countries. The problem is, Americans LOVE those products made in those other countries. They don't give a flying rats azz that those products are polluting the planet. But..hey....they have a nice blue sky above them. Nobody is arguing against regulations. It's a problem though when those regulations continue to get more and more out of whack where companies in say California, Nebraska or Texas have to compete with other companies located in places like China. Chinese companies dump loads of product on our market where it is very difficult and (sometimes) impossible for a local company to compete and that local company has to do something. I know some people just don't want to accept that but that is a reality in the business world. We continue to regulate and regulate and regulate. Meanwhile, China is laughing (coughing) all the way to the bank because they are kicking our azz in many markets. Again, I am not for deregulating the US. But, like the example in California, companies will simply move and there isn't any benefit for the environment.....but hey....some people get that warm and fuzzy feeling.
  2. Is this a serious question?Regulations, regulations, regulations. Obsessive, obscene and punitive It's a serious question not being given serious answers, unfortunately. Can you, specifically, talk about those and how they affect our industry? Which regulations? Instituted when? How punitive are they, and in what way? Speaking of deflections, I'm beginning to think this whole Obama tangent was a deflection to distract attention from someone trying to have an honest dialog about this issue. I'm still looking for an answer to this. It's a real question, on-topic and everything. Knapp, I gave personal experiences in another thread about jobs that went elsewhere because the company could build a plant in an area that doesn't have as high of regulations. You ignored those posts. Here is an article about what is happening in California. The gist of the article is that the author pretty much is wishy washy about the affect on the economy. However, this snippet is pertinent to your question: If companies can move to places that have less regulation, they will because it's cheaper. that doesn't matter if it's from state to state or from country to country. Now, I have said over and over again, I am not for lessing the current regulations. Maybe we could make them more efficient and get rid of some that don't actually help the environment. But, all in all, I don't want the US more polluted than it is now. BUT, there are countless examples of jobs lost because various regulations made it easier to do business elsewhere.
  3. Here is another thing that baffles me about Bo. He is supposed to be a defensive mind. He has put together some defenses that were very dominant. When you look at his LSU defense or here in 2009 or 2010...come on....who wouldn't be happy about that? BUT....then how often has his defenses been absolutely totally embarrassed? It really is amazing the difference. Let's think about this for a minute. Melvin Gordon ran for more yards against us than Mike Rosier ever did against ANYONE during the scoring explosion.....WTF????? Now, I will argue to my grave that Wisconsin's offense wasn't more talented than what we have on defense right now. BUT....when something went wrong on the field, did Bo think introspectively about..."hey....we need to change this because what we are calling isn't working". No. He flipped out and totally melted down at everyone else around him. Let's simply take when he blew up at Daniel Davie. Nebraska was still in the game. I believe this was the first long TD that Gordon had ran. Davie simply made one mistake and There was NO help behind him. Well, I'm sorry, if Bo is calling defenses against an offense that has Melvin Gordon and a very questionable passing attack and the success is contingent on absolutely NOBODY making a mistake or it goes to the house.....well......that's a problem with the scheme and who is controlling the defense on the sidelines. A mistake like what Davie made should have resulted in maybe a 10-15 yard gain instead of a 50 yard TD without being touched. Bo's reaction to his own mistake is unacceptable as a leader.
  4. I don't give a flaming rip what our "national perception" is right now. We need to fix things internally before we start caring about that.
  5. It's on Directv channel 639 (Sports Net NY). I have Dish Network. I will have to try to find it. I have Dish also. I saw this tweet. Does this mean Coxhub.com is not free or Dish is not free either? I quickly looked at my Dish app for the game and I didn't see channel 438.
  6. I agree with that. Now, I don't have a problem (if handled correctly) with a base level of literacy that the nation sets as..."this is the minimum of what our schools should be teaching". That seems to me to be reasonable. However, as usual, in these situations, many don't handle it well and and it becomes something very negative instead of something productive. Now, if every local school district or state would take those standards and try to honestly blow them away and see how far better they can be than the minimum standards, then great.
  7. I'm willing to listen to what he has to say before making a decision.
  8. What type of cooking are you doing? Traditional oven? Smoking? Frying?
  9. LOL...one time I was asked to cook for this large event. It was around 300 people. The lady who hired me kept telling me if I needed help, she could get some one to come help. The day of the event when the meat was on the cooker, she kept sending me text messages...."Are you sure you don't need help pulling your meat?" She had absolutely no clue what she was saying until I saw her and her husband in person and started teasing her about it. It was priceless.
  10. Homemade bread would be nice touch. We have a fantastic molasses bread recipe my mother made for years.
  11. We need a leader that is also a leader when things start to not go well.
  12. I am in no way a brisket expert. Not at all . . . but this is what the site that I use the most says about the topic: http://amazingribs.com/recipes/beef/texas_brisket.html Everyone here probably already knows about amazingribs.com, though. Haha. I've read that before and tried it absolutely as close to how they describe it as possible and it still shreds when I try to cut it. They claim you should take it to around 203 degrees. That's above where the connective tissue "melts" thus....allowing it to fall apart. I've always been frustrated about this. I've lost competitions before where my pulled pork and ribs were fantastic but my brisket wasn't. FYI.....my burnt ends recipe basically came from this site. It's awesome.
  13. OK. We aren't celebrating our extended family Thanksgiving till Saturday with all the turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes. So, we are trying to come up with what to do on actual Thanksgiving with just our family. My kids really don't even like the traditional Thanksgiving meal (which is really odd to me). My daughter the other day actually said she would rather have venison than Turkey. Proud of that one. Anyway, so, it got me thinking. Why not have something similar to what may have been at the very first meal between the pilgrims and indians. So, I'm thinking: Venison Fish Duck (if I could get hunting between now and then) corn Squash Thoughts? What would you do if you were going to try this?
  14. It will appeal to a minority, sure . . . but more importantly it's the right thing to do. If they want to deport everyone they need to provide funding for 11 million deportations instead of the 400,000 per year that they've currently funded. If they don't want to deport everyone they need to decide on a metric for who is allowed to stay and why. Doing nothing is not an option and opposing Obama is not governing. Oh....I agree. It is just amazing how the Republicans can shoot themselves in the foot with minorities though.
  15. Ok...I'm excited about the basketball season and am craving good games. So far, we haven't played anyone who we can really claim was a good test. I know Rhode Island has had good teams in the past. Last year they only won 14 games. However, that almost matches the wins they have had over the two previous seasons combined. This year, they are 2-0 just like us. They have blown out both of their opponents like we have. Question.....is this going to be a game that really tests our team? It's on the road. If we win this game, is it something we can hang our hat on and learn how good our team is?
  16. OK...I have a question for everyone who claims to be a brisket expert. I have cooked one heck of a lot of briskets. Here is my problem. I can not get it to slice nicely with out falling apart and basically be pulled beef. Everything I have ever read about it claims to take it to 190 just like pulled pork. Well.....the reason you take pulled pork to at least 190 is because at that temperature the water cells in the connective tissue burst allowing the meat to fall apart and thus....become pulled pork. Well, the same thing happens with brisket. So, at what temperature to you cook your brisket, for how long and at what internal temp is it when you take it off? I can make pulled beef that tastes DANG good. I just wish I could make sliced brisket.
  17. krc.... I am really interested in how schools are handling Common Core. Please expand more on how your curriculum pertains now to Common Core and how it has changed. I ask this because opponents to CC have said that schools will now just teach "down" to the test standards and they won't go above and beyond to actually be better. Thoughts?
  18. Brilliant political move. These people will have temporary protection for three years. That puts the end of it square in the middle of the next administration. Only two things can happen from here. a) The Republicans get off their fridgen asses and actually pass an immigration bill. b) They go into panic mode and claim the world coming to an end because (the horror) some people have been given protection under the law............They lose every hispanic vote in the next election and the Dems win easy. Republicans.....you actually have the chance to do something that is both right and will appeal to a minority in this country. Why not take a chance and actually do something?
  19. It's just funny and frustrating at the same time that it's do obvious what they do with scheduling but the media doesn't care when thru talk about how amazingly dominant they are.
  20. my son and I love all kinds of hunting. However, we don't have access to a place with water to build a permanent blind. So, I was thinking of building one on a small trailer that I could take yo various interstate lakes or ponds. Anyone ever done that? Or have suggestions?
  21. Good god man. Is it one of those trailer mounted rigs? I start checking pork at 195 but I usually pull it out right at 200 degrees. That might just be my thermometer being off . . . Yes, it's a trailer. All the experts say to take it to 190. I always still find some roasts that don't pull at that so I try to get to 195. I'm fine with going to 200 too. Always use a digital thermometer. Colo.... Yes, I designed it and various friends who know how to weld have helped out. If I were to do it again, I would have built it differently but I know it well enough that I can cook a lot of good food on it. My dream is to own one of these. http://langbbqsmokers.com/
  22. LOL..... So, the public is outraged and demand laws be put in place protecting against age discrimination in the private work place....but, now it's ok to discriminate against age in public office. Priceless.
  23. Don't get your panties all bunched up. Just shocked you of all people have gotten to this point. Pretty well signals to me that this is no longer a slit camp with a relative even number of supporters and detractors with a batch of people in the middle that just shrug their shoulders. If you're flipped, then that group of supporters has got to be fairly limited at this point. Is 2 wins going to flip you back or has the ship sailed for you? My attitude has not been the same for well over a year even though I choose to not constantly bitch about everything and not see some good things happening. Last year after the "F U" tape came out, I didn't care if he was gone. I would have supported either way. He wasn't fired so I supported the decision and got excited about the season and have enjoyed up till now. I have seen now that he hasn't learned a damn thing about being a leader. THEN....we have players still that have a "program against the fans" attitude. Gee. That's unacceptable.
  24. Your point? Sorry if I've had a positive attitude towards the program.
  25. Ahhhhh....BBQ. I love it and I have fun finding knew stuff to cook and new ways of doing it. I have a gas grill for grilling stuff like steaks or burgers when i want something done quick. I have made a barrel smoker where I can used charcoal to grill steaks or I can go low and slow to do something like ribs. Then, I have a cooker that...let's say....is a little over board for most people. I can fit 200-300 lbs of meat on it and I have had it packed full for certain events. Usually, I use it to cook anywhere from 50 - 200 lbs of something like pulled pork. I'll put the butts on around 5:30 - 6:00 am. pour the smoke to it around 225 - 250 degrees. Then, around noon I will wrap it in aluminum foil and keep cooking it till 3:00 - 4:00pm. You know it's done when a digital thermometer reaches 195 degrees. Or, when you can pull the bone out clean. Brisket....Burnt ends are the way to go. Much easier and everyone loves them. Ribs....I have about 10 different ways of doing them and it changes every time I cook. I am going to try venison ribs this year. Should be interesting.
