  1. Yup. Need 15 weeks plus some exceptions after that.
  2. As an independent in Colorado I get to vote in either the democratic or republican primary. They send me two ballots, I send one back. In 2020 it made no sense to vote on the Republican side because it was mostly single candidate primaries. This year the Republicans had many to choose from. On my ballot the Dems had no competitive primaries, even at the local level. I voted on the Republican side this time.
  3. It didn’t. So I guess you might be thinking we are screwed forever?
  4. Someone should have taken a black marker to all those signs to change the “o” to an “a”. I am sure someone came up with that in grade school already, anyway. I would have.
  5. Totally agree with you all. If a fathers daughter gets raped and hides it for two months out of shame or something, and it took her a month to realize it. Every father would be onboard.
  6. Totally agree with you. It would have been nice to get this decision originally and we would have been done working toward this compromise 40 years ago. We would be perfectly inline with Europe. Buckle up for another 10 years. I will commit to working toward it as best I can including voting.
  7. Looks like a pat on the back to me, but I guess she didn’t say “nice job”.
  8. Interesting oped. Can we be civil enough to legislate solutions at this point or is it to late? 15 weeks with exceptions after that seems about right to me. https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/24/opinions/court-decision-roe-was-very-bad-for-america-snead/index.html “So for nearly 50 years, those on opposite sides of the issue haven’t really had to learn how to talk to one another in a serious way about how to find a path forward for the law and policy of abortion – we simply did what the Supreme Court told us insofar as we could tell what that was.” “… we must genuinely embrace the notion that both sides have something vital to defend. Concretely, those who call themselves “pro-life” must understand that those who describe themselves as “pro-choice” are desperate to defend women’s bodily autonomy and secure their equal position in the economic and social life of our nation. And conversely, the latter advocates must acknowledge that the former are committed to the intrinsic equal dignity of every human being, born and unborn. Once that’s out of the way, we can begin the hard work of trying to find common ground so that we can, together, care rightly for women, children (born and unborn) and families, both before and after they are born.”
  9. This isn't the only attack on these pregnancy crisis centers in the nation. I think the group doing it took credit. I am not sure why these centers are getting hit. They are probably anti abortion and provide adoption or other services to help moms keep the babies, but it's not like they made the ruling. They are helping women who chose not to abort. Seems like the anger is misplaced or it's payback for all the abortion clinic attacks over the years.
  10. I had an anti abortion friend say about the same thing when an abortion clinic got gunned down many years ago. This happened in Colorado too, which has very liberal abortion laws with no new legislation trying to restrict them.
  11. Why are they torching pregnancy clinics? What do these clinics do that is so bad? Do they offer adoption options or something? https://www.facebook.com/LongmontFirePoliceOEM/posts/pfbid0s1bAeKadB42BytPr5MrXkw7wzxBTvpeEm1AWg6PT1LJYMKsbp4F6wFKahUoJJb2Ll
  12. Not sure. It’s more about how well I know a person than the color of their skin. Or maybe their personality... Are they a sensitive person for example. I don’t typically engage in deep conversations about race with someone I don’t know yet. I have. I am always curious if someone is willing to talk about it. My nephew’s wife has shared her experiences growing up black. My neighbors came from Africa so their stories were very interesting. Loved learning about their culture and meeting their extended family. They came to the US for college so a little different experience. The father also shared difficulties his son was experiencing in local schools. I miss them. They were a hoot. after George Floyd happened, I would walk past a black person and wonder if they hated me. Never entered my mind before 2020.
  13. Pick another example if you want to. There are many to chose from. If someone argues against trans athletes in womens sports what does that make them? Intolerant? Are they told that? If they want school of choice what does that make them? What if they are religious? ...There are probably a number of adjectives used to describe religious folks. The point of the post is that if Dems dump on voters they are trying to attract, their message and real solutions go nowhere.
  14. So what happens next? Where do the protests end up? Are any justices killed? Will states really keep restrictions on abortions below 15 weeks or will they back down? I figured this was coming but it could get really ugly.
  15. Non idea. All the bullet points for Dems this fall will be Roe v Wade and gun control.
  16. The dude who made the racism accusation. Back then it was very a bad thing to say about someone. It still is, but it’s getting watered down from overuse.
  17. I would suggest to persuade and convince the voters. It often degrades to what I mentioned very quickly which will make people shut off and not want to engage. I remember listening to a political debate some years ago in the office. All of sudden the liberal guy just says “that is straight up racism” and walks away. I thought I was listening, but the accusation made me wonder what I had missed. I looked at the two guys who were left and asked what happened and both shrugged their shoulders and went back to work. One was a conservative and the other a moderate liberal who liked debating. I thought, no one will ever invite that dude into a discussion again. it’s the middle the Dems need to win and I think it’s a large middle. Acting like half the country is racist, sexist, homophobic, and stupid isn’t going to win anyone from that half over. The Dems do not need to win that many.
  18. Agreed. There is no reason not to order some so folks have a choice. It’s not up to him to make that choice for parents. It’s their kids, not his.
  19. High enough that Hillary commented on it and then got criticized. Maybe Hillary doesn’t matter anymore, but that is why I picked that example.
  20. I keep hearing this. Democrats have messaging problem. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/09/us/politics/democrats-schools-voters.html Then I hear on this board how they have superior solutions to real problems. Maybe it’s that the problems they have real solutions to are not at the forefront of most voters top priorities. Transgenders in womens sports is not high on the list of independents. I actually agree with Hillary that it’s not a hill to die on in 2022 or 24. Maybe pick the right battles. Also, if you have a great product (policy) you are trying to sell it to a customer (voters), disparaging or shaming the customer is not the way to go. Telling certain voters they are not educated or in denial, or racist and they just don’t realize it, is not going to sell a product. If you want to tell that to 29% of the electorate (Republicans) you can still win, but don’t let the independents hear you. They might think it’s directed at them depending on their opinion.
  21. I am not concerned about the vax for kids. It’s very low on the totem pole.
  22. DeSantis is starting to beat Trump in polls. I never thought Trump would get re-elected. https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/22/politics/poll-trump-desantis-gop-presidential-primary/index.html
  23. I think I missed this. I doubt very much that teenage boys about to go to college are watching FOX news. You would be lucky if they are up on current events. They certainly are not watching either political party with a few odd exceptions. I have two teenage boys. From what I see from them and their friends, they watch YouTube videos and TikTok videos for their information. Most of those are someone doing something stupid (funny) or topics on what they are interested in….cars, games…whatever. Not sure how they buy into the Republican mantra. They are even less influenced by their parents and more influenced by their peers. Maybe they get this message in HS.
  24. I have to admit I am not sure what you are asking or what posting history you are eluding too. I have posted about MLK before in other threads and they should be consistent.
