  1. Kolarevic needs to be a bit more controlled in his 1V1 tackles. The backs in the flat were able to pause, then juke past him. If he was a bit more controlled he could of had a few tackles for loss on key plays. That would have slowed NW offense down some. Early on, when they had long 3rd downs, they didn't do so well. Making a few more plays would have really help the D.

another was one NWs first TD. The blown coverage. I hope it was just a simple communication error and not someone not knowing the scheme. a few tweaks and they MIGHT be able to perform better.

And you don't have to just go off of a guess or a feeling for how much we passed - we threw it an unprecedented 58% of our plays.   :)

Again, Whipple doesn't seem to want to run the ball much to move the chains. Hence why he only called run plays 42% of the time. That is way below our average from last season.

But when Grant got his chances, at least he:

    -Broke a long one

-Ran one into the end zone from inside the red zone.

    -Averaged 5.3 YPC

I'm not sure how it matters whether or not Grant gets the 46 yards from the long run doing it that way or chunking that up across 8 different carries (to stay consistent with the 5.3 YPC average that way).

Basically, our players and coaches made mistakes that cost us the game. And also that blown pass interference call late in the game hurt us also.

That call WAS a big deal. Going in to score, instead being a turnover.

I always throw out the longest and shortest Carrie’s to get a more typical ypc figure.  Aka about 3 ypc.  That longer one came in the second half I recall.  We didn’t have a meaningful run game at all imo.  NW however did much better.  I get what you’re saying but I am a run the ball guy and we’ve yet to show me anything in past 4 years to suggest any serious effort to establish effective run game. Frost says it but I don’t believe he means it. His recruiting tells me enough by itself.

Just my opinion based on general observations of stats, RBs played, play calling, etc etc.

What 84 said. The run game overall sucked. If they fix that, the rest of the offense should fall into place.

Then you must be one of the 2 people that picked Nebraska to go 13-0. I don't even want to know how you deal with a loss especially with how last year went. But cheers to you and your prediction!!!!

I actually predicted 8-5, but I go in each week expecting to play a clean game and win. Unfortunately, they don't seem to play clean games.

7-5 with loses to OU, Purdue, Minny, UM and Wisky.  Frost will be retained because a win over Iowa will be the difference.

OU -- we haven't beaten a team clearly "more talented" than us for a long while

Purdue -- Brohm has our number, they will be good and it's in West Lafayette

Minny -- Fleck knows how to play Nebraska better than anyone

UM -- We're just not getting out of the Big House with a W.  We're not deep enough for a late season task like that.

Wisky -- Our front 7 will be pretty beat up by then and will struggle to stop the run against that giant line and those backs.

I doubt anyone blows us out, though.  Maybe UM if we're thin with injuries in key spots.

I agree with this more than anything. They are also getting their OC back that was there Morgan's freshman year when he had a pretty good year.

I wonder who the sources are that listed the teams. I can't see Stanford or Cal bringing value on there own. Not as much as Oregon, FSU or Miami. I am surprised NC is missing.

Stanford and Cal bring the San Fran market. Plus Stanford brings HUGE academic standing and research and would help bring ND (most of the teams they play would be in the BIG). The BIG does still put some emphasis on academics, unlike some other conferences.

I tend to be on the side that @Undone is on for this issue.  I have really never had a problem with Frost's scheme or his play calling.  People will look at a play that didn't work and instantly say...that was a stupid play call.  Well, if the players executed the play, it could have been a very good play.  He didn't all of a sudden forget how to design plays and call plays from when he was at Oregon and UCF.  After those stops, this part of his coaching was his strong point.

Put a good O line with his scheme and play calling, and I believe our record is very different and everyone would love Frost.

Hopefully, we now have a very good O line coach and we see good improvement this year.

Also, it drives me crazy when someone says..."they need to simplify the scheme".  College players all over the country are successful in running similar schemes to what we have been running.  Dumbing it down is not the way to go.  Player development and players not making stupid mistakes will go a lot farther than "simplifying the scheme".

Not to pick AM, but he overthrew LOTS of wide open receivers. He also had trouble hitting the RBs in the flats. Those passes would have kept the defense a little more honest and made the OL look better. I'm hoping that, if nothing else on offense improves, that CT can make more of those throws.

I don't think it matters. I think we could have kept Lubick on and had him call 100% of the plays and it would have been fine.

The O-line coaching needed vast improvement, and it seemed like QB coaching was really dropping off a cliff as well.

But just pointing it out for others: The offensives scheme or concepts aren't really going to eliminate turnovers, false starts, and poor blocking. We're talking about player development & game preparation more than anything.

I've been saying this SF got here. clean up the bold parts and this is a GOOD team. So many stupid mistakes  (and special teams) have CAUSED them to lose.

Thanks. So….Ummm….ok….so again, why are we going to beat all those other teams and lose to Rutgers?  @Red Five

I believe that the Huskers win that game. I'm more concerned about Minnesota. It seems like NU craps the bed when we play them. Iowa and Wisconsin, NU can play with them. Just need to clean up the stupid mistakes and they win. Michigan is more of an unknown. We know they lost some players, but did they replace them? Harbaugh had a great year last year, but has questionable games since he's been there. Just don't know. OU is kind of an unknown as well. New coach, lots of good players leave.:dunno

If we are 8-4, we are not in the top 25.  We maybe would be there at some point in the season, but not at the end.

8-4 sounds good especially if the losses are like last year's where we had a chance against those better teams.  If we have blowout losses, the feeling is different.

I disagree. If NU is 8-4, without blowout losses, they will get the benefit of doubt and be in the top 25. Even though they have performed poorly the last 5 years, the powers that be would like them ranked. I know most of us say that ESPN (and others) don't like Nebraska, but they want traditional powers ranked.

Lost 9 games, 9 points at most, the rest much less.. no blowouts.. toughened mentally. With that many losses that were all so close, with a slight improvement on O & D & ST, huskers should see big improvement this year, we will swap 3-9 with 9-3 giving SF the best B1G CotY

Coming off a 9-4 season, Aidan O’Connell being the #1 or #2 QB in the B1G and SF teams are 1-3 against them it's hard to pick NU.

I understand, which is why I said "if they reduce stupid mistakes...". NU has been the better team, but just can't get out of their own way. Again, I am an eternal optimist.

By the way, I am predicting an 8-4 record minimum.

  13. I'm surprised that most everyone has Purdue beating NU. They barely one last year with AM throwing four picks. If the huskers can just reduce some of the stupid mistakes, ST play better, and the rest play as good as last year, then it's a winning season. I know I drink the :koolaid2:every summer. No matter how many times I am disappointed, I still go into the season optimistically.

I won't be at all surprised if NBC pays the $75 million. In fact, I'd be more surprised if they didn't and TBH, at the current B1G and SEC rates broken down per school, I think that is a fair request. If NBC decides it's too much so be it, they can then pay more if they want to get into conference contracts to broadcast college football. Truth is, all this hoopla is doing is adding to the destruction of the real value of the dollar not to mention hurting college sports as a whole. Ugh... would love to go back to the days of split titles and off season discussions of who would have beaten whom... those were the good times. However, I digress... times have changed and the change is only beginning. Better to sit back and enjoy the ride, yes?

I have been saying this for a while. Thanks for feeling the same.
