  1. It's possible Fyfe beat him out, but Fyfe being listed as #2 doesn't necessarily mean that's the case when you're trying not to burn a redshirt. It's really not a good move to preserve a redshirt on a kid who is your #2 best player at a position. In fact, it makes almost no sense whatsoever, unless you think you can't recruit. It's a real FU to your current players, actually - especially the seniors. I doubt that's what Riley did, though. My suspicion is that Fyfe beat him out. Whether that means he's bad is a different question. I doubt it. He's probably like 85% of HS QB recruits - not good enough to beat out a guy who's been in the program 5 years, even if that senior is a former walkon. EXCEPT WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT THE QB POSITION IS THE 1 SPOT YOU GENERALLY DON'T ROTATE PLAYERS. Huh? My point is that you have your your best #2 ready to play. Redshirting is not that important. And he could have redshirt next year if that made sense. Reality is, he's #3 because Fyfe beat him out. That makes some people uncomfortable, so they invent things about redshirting.
  2. And if we need linemen more than anything, why are we using 4 or 5 schollies on receivers?
  3. Wisconsin's #6 ranking is like NU's top 25 ranking. The product of a name and a record standing in isolation more than anything. Wisconsin is not the 6th best team in the country. They are atrocious on offense.
  4. Meaning what? Stanton would have likely been a fairly productive QB for NU had there not been a system change during his freshman year. Received a lot of hype and did well on the camp circuit, but never progressed and never played a down. He didn't exactly light it up once he transferred, either. Stanton was on campus for like a year. People are pretty unrealistic.
  5. Hard to believe. But hope they can finish with a win. LSU in at 7-4 because they beat an average ATM team in a shootout is a joke.

  7. No, I"m not. In fact, that's exactly what I was talking about when I wrote: "My suspicion is that Fyfe beat him out. Whether that means he's bad is a different question. I doubt it. 8. Look at the play by play. NU came out and ran two IB plays for 7 yards, then a QB draw for 2 yards and then a FB run to pick up the first. After that, NU threw it 10 times, completing 3 of those passes for about 25 yards, which each of those 4 possessions ending in a punt. During that same span, NU ran it 8 times for almost 20 yards. That's not a great average, but let's not pretend we tried to run a bunch with zero success but had indications of early success through the air. I'd be curious to see how often, if ever, Langs dials up a run on 2nd and 8+ or on 3rd and 4+.
  9. Explain what that means. Serious question, do some of you watch any other football games? Or is it only NU games?

  11. The question isn't really whether he should have beaten out Armstrong. The question is whether he should have beaten out Fyfe.
  12. We do little in the passing game to get guys like DPE the ball in space. Hard to judge their talent. Give them to someone with an innovative offense, and who knows how productive they would be.
  13. This is not what we HAD to do. It is what we chose to do. Who else were we going to put in? I didn't say we had to put someone else in. We could have called different plays. That play calling was like a$$ against Iowa........ No excuse....It was as if the staff had no game plan at all. None, nada, nyet, nine,.......... And no clue as to how to stem the tide.
  14. And why are they getting these visits? Because recruiting is about relationships and these coaches had/have solid relationships in California. What % of these highly touted visitors are not from the west? My concern are twofold. First, visits are interesting but commits (and retention) are what matters. Second, the longer the staff is here, and the more time they spend building regional relationships (as they should), the more tenuous their relationships with California HS becomes. So I'm not convinced that visits this year mean more commits next year or the year after. Reality is, if Riley goes 24-12 during the next three regular seasons, he probably won't be here to see if that recruiting groundwork pays off.
  15. Remains to be seen if this will be effective or if this is rearranging chairs on the titanic. Even if it's just rearranging chairs, at least we know that Riley is trying to make changes to get the team in the best position to be successful. Fair point.
  16. You know my take on recruiting. It's broken into tiers. Tier 1 is 1-15 or do. Tier 2 is 15-35 or so. Tier 3 is 35 to 60 or so. The rest after that is basically a wash. I've always said that Riley, Bo and even Callahan and Solich all recruited about the same - maybe solich better than the others based on the number and draft position of drafted players that he recruited and left in the program. What's funny to me is when people claim we are recruiting so much better based on the rankings, but want to ignore those rankings when looking at or current roster. Can't have it both ways.
  17. Pure class as always. Personal attack! Personal attack! Nah man, you super classy. Keep doing you.

  19. Feel bad for the guy, but probably the right call. We'll see where Riley goes from there.
  20. Losing by 30 to them was entirely on the coaches. Losing is one thing. Being dominated like that by an average Iowa team is on the staff. As for Bo, I blamed him for the bad blowouts. I just didn't think he should be fired based on the body of work. And guess what, i haven't called for Riley to be fired either, even though he clearly has less upside than Bo or Frank did. Had nothing to do with our busted ass O-Line and busted ass QB position? ALL on the coaches? Just totally false and you know this. How many more blowouts did he have to put us through before he deserved to be fired? You can lose to 4 times a year and be blown out in half of them as long as you win 9? Riley did just that. No calling for him to be fired would be too easy for you. You have no actual grasp of what his upside is, especially compared to two guys you admire so much. You do realize that Iowa was busted up too, right? Keep making excuses though. Fewer people are believing them. It's funny to see you spinning out of control though. In how many seasons did Bo suffer multiple 30+ point losses, especially to the likes of this Iowa team?
  21. Completely possible. But what the hell are we looking for then? A lot of great coaches have looked average (or even worse) for stretches.
  22. I'm going to refrain from replying to your personal attack. Except to say go back to what I wrote. Losing by 30 to them was entirely on the coaches. Losing is one thing. 23. I hate to say it but Riley was a proven career .504 commodity before coming here. Hiring friends and blowout losses kind of reaffirm that. At a historically .400 school before he arrived He hasn't only coached at OSU. And iirc, he never bested the best season of the guy he succeeded.
