  1. That 2008 team won a grand total of 2 games over teams that made it to bowl games. Western Michigan that got boat raced by Rice in their bowl game and Kansas that went 4-4 in the Big 12, beating the same crap teams NU feasted on. The 2018 schedule is comprised of 9 teams that made it to bowl games in 2017. Now, I know that a 2017 bowl team may not be a 2018 bowl team, but for hypothetical sake let's say they all are 2018 bowl teams. Then in comparison to 2008, beating the 3 non bowl teams plus 2 bowl teams gets you to 5 wins.
  2. Link to these stories. If you mean the BS people banter about on these fan forums, you actually believe the stuff you read on here from unknown people? I believe that just as much as I believe you when you opine that last year's team was not a 4-8 team.
  3. If a team goes 0-12 but had the toughest schedule in college football, does that make them a good team? Like I said above, we "kind of" solidly beat Rutgers and Illinois. And that was before "NU gave up in mid October" like you like to keep repeating. (I don't agree with that either or they would have folded at Purdue when they were down at the half). From FACTS, not your conjecture, you can only honestly say that this team is coming in only a little bit above the level of Rutgers and Illinois and below the level of a lot of other teams. Other things you are not acknowledging is that every one on the roster is going to be a freshman in regard to the scheme they are running (offense and defense) and from a fundamentals stand point (blocking and tackling) I would argue that most are coming in below a freshman level. I think the main issue, that keeps getting argued back and forth in this thread, is you boldly proclaiming that you expect at least 8 wins and anything less is a disappointment. That proclamation does not adequately recognize the starting point of this team and the monumental coaching effort and ability it will take to reach those 8 wins. Now, I think most every Husker fan believes that this coaching staff has that ability and will put in the effort that is required to accomplish that immense challenge, but if all the balls don't bounce our way, I think we're realistic enough to know that 6-6 is not a disappointment based on the status of the team on 1/1/18 and the schedule that they face.
  4. When you almost lose to Arkansas State and Purdue, and lose to Northern Illinois, does that really matter? Our only "solid" wins were Rutgers and Illinois, so we are starting from just a little bit above their level. Revisionist history? Did you watch the games?
  5. Well that was after I initially responded to his not letting talent slip post and he deflected by pointing fingers, he then responded a second time that he only meant recruiting rankings (the only thing Riley can control), and then I posted that reason as why talent according to the recruiting rankings may have slipped also. I was not arguing anything Riley over Pelini. This is becoming like politics. "We have this huge problem. Well, X faction says Y is to blame, no Y faction says X is to blame. Everyone argues about who is to blame, and nothing gets done about the huge problem."
  6. Why does everyone want to come in and start pointing fingers? The argument is if talent has slipped over the past 3 years (and by all metrics I can find it has), not who is responsible for it.
  7. I also give you this article about blue chip ratio over the past 4 years. https://www.sbnation.com/a/cfb-preview-2017/blue-chip-ratio And this quote about Nebraska from that article: "Nebraska’s gone from 30 percent in 2014 to just 19 in 2017, but seems to have real momentum in the 2018 class."
  8. Well his highest rated class of 2017 at 23rd didn't have the 2nd or 8th rated players show up on campus and the 6th rated player wasn't on the team by the time the season started. So, I think that had some effect on the roster talent.
  9. Who was laying blame on any coach? You said you didn't think Riley let the talent level slip and yet according to 247 it has slipped the past three years. So, the talent level has slipped. That's the point.
  10. 1. We are not playing UCFs 2016 schedule. You have to take level of talent in relation to level of competition. 2. After testing the current NU roster, they had to significantly decrease the winter workouts (in amount of time and weight (as a percent of max)) in relation to the first year transition workouts that they did at UCF. (And even doing that, two guys ended up in the hospital.)
  11. This has nothing to do with what you posted and to what I replied. It seems like deflection to me.
  12. Except we didn't beat any of the good teams and our only wins over teams with winning records were Western Michigan 9-4 and Kansas (8-5, 4-4 in the Big12).
  13. Are you sure about that? According to 247 sports and talent still on roster it slipped every year he was here. https://247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite 2015 - 24th 2016 - 26th 2017 - 29th On top of that, after testing our guys, they had to decrease the winter workouts (in amount of time and weight (as a percent of max)) over what they did at UCF in their first year transition workouts.
  14. There are a few 4th year juniors that will have prove their mettle this upcoming season.
  15. Highly probable that most of the 4 scholarships athletes that won't be on scholarship for the start of fall camp are seniors, so it would decrease that starting 16 number. Edit: Also, add in the fact that Moses Bryant and Vedral are probably going to be on scholarship in 2019, the '19 recruiting class appears to be getting smaller and smaller.
  16. Based on percentages, you should have 17-19 scholarship O linemen, so we are not overloaded. I look to the junior class as to what the recruiting class should be replacing as far as depth. That class has 3 (Barnett, Gaylord, and Decker). In addition, the sophomore class has 5, so you will be losing 8 in a two year period. Thus, taking 3 this year and 4 the next two years would kind of even that out from a roster management perspective. They could also fill any hole(s) in OL for this class with JUCO recruit(s) next year or the year after.
  17. I think OL is one area where you can recruit on potential. Grading high school OL can be the most difficult and the area where recruiting rankings can be way off. When you have a big guy like this that is athletic and can move his feet, you take a serious look at him. An OL recruit today is better than an OL recruit next year because you get that year of conditioning and development. I think the main thing you have to look for in an OL "project" is work ethic and if they are going to put in what it takes to improve.
  18. What is house poop? Your place must look a little different than the place I chill at.
  19. It seems like a little bit of an over reaction. He is probably just anxious about making one of THE big decisions in his life (maybe his first).
  20. Washington Canty Taylor Tannor Surprise: Palmer
  21. I don't think Oats was ever an option at tOSU (academics). I think they were holding out for two Offensive Tackles higher on their board Rasheed Walker and Petit-Frere. I think the JJB to tOSU smoke coming out now is because they missed out on one or both of those guys. tOSU may only have 1 or 2 spots open for this class.
  22. If I had to guess, tOSU is missing out on the two OTs they were trying to get so a spot is now open for JJB.
