  1. the current defensive staff's statistics are actually far worse then Cosgrove's. How was that possible? Tommy with his inconsistency and all still makes these offensive coaches look better then they are. I am not happy that Riley threw Tommy under the bus over that third down play. If he only wanted to run the ball, call a trap play or jet sweep. don't blame the kid for your mistakes as a coach.
  2. who would take the job? we consistently fire coaches who are 9-3 (understanding Bo's behavior got him canned as much as anything). At this point, the damage to the program may be such that a new coach would need 3 years to just be competitive with the good teams in this conference. Clearly we struggle with the middle tier teams. It's this type of logic that totally baffles me. It's all about the almighty dollar. You throw enough $ at someone, they could care less about who was fired in the past. Any coach with any mettle will be confident in his abilities and not be concerned about what might happen if he fails, because failure isn't in his repertoire. True it is about the $$. Any we can clearly find coaches with big enough egos to take the job. now find a really good/proven coach that would take this job over all other jobs. given two schools with exactly same finances and facilities, one is NU and the other in the SEC. The NU program appears to have problems getting the highest caliber of talent in the door the SEC school doesn't. both pay the same. which job do you take? My guess is that the coach goes to where they will win the soonest with the best talent pool. they go to the SEC.
  3. Wisconsin 37 NU 14 NU rushing yards 147 NU passing yards 258 (Hope I am wrong on the losing part).
  4. At least until the fans stop buying tickets...
  5. Still more trophies than the current coach has won at this level. If the previous 7 years are a failure, can't wait to see how this year gets excused. Or, and I'm just spitballing here, you could root for our team to be successful in this, the first year of our new coach. We are all rooting for the team to be successful. However it's upsetting seeing a coaching staff with supposedly unmatched coaching experience completely lose a game on their own. I could understand the BYU loss, I could understand the Miami loss but that Illinois loss is completely inexcusable. The coaches went out of their way to make that game as difficult as possible to win, good coaches don't do that and we deserve better. This I agree with. The Illinois loss falls directly on Riley & Co. At the same time Riley & Co deserve a chance to bring in their guys & see how things shake out, but my guess is games like this will tighten up his leash a little. Just think it could be worse. We could be Texas. Texas is a serious under-achiever. Sadly NU is right behind them...
  6. From what I could tell he was the opposite of Bo (nicest coach in the world). Riley has only won in the world football league which equates to semi-pro football league. He never won in Corvallis consistently, or San Diego at all. He was at OR St. long before Oregon got good. he wasn't winning then consistently either. While he was at a third rank school with that lever of resources, I am fully tired of that being the apologist's main excuse for him. MANY other coaches that win, came up through that type of school and done exceptionally well. Riley isn't the right fit for NU. I would love to be wrong on this one because being right means more losing and I don't want NU to lose ever.. Here is a prediction... the end of the season record will be 4-8, with wins over Rutger's and Purdue. a 4-8 season is serious because the talent and schedule should have permitted at least a 7-5 season. Many records have already been broken by Riley and Co, first 1-2 start since 1981, first 2-3 start since 1959. I would have to dig deep to figure out when the last 4-8 (roughly as they didn't play 12 games that long ago) season record occurred. Guess I would just look for 4 win seasons. At this pace, this staff is the most likely to break the biggest record at NU, the home sellout streak! I fully expect later this year (or maybe next year) to see lots of fans dressed as empty seats. the place may be sold out but fans wont put up with sub-par football for long. especially when NU is getting blown out (Bo was in danger of this one too). We will see how this goes against Michigan St at they are the most likely to issue a whopping to us (and maybe Iowa and Northwestern). I will say this here, PLEASE Mikey, prove me wrong!! I don't want to see NU getting beat and would like to see you succeed. I just believe this stage is too big for you.. please prove me wrong..
  7. IF we file em all... we need to start with Harvey Pearlman; under his watch the program/school has taken some major hits. He is the one who keeps hiring bad AD's (except Tom who he hired to fix the Callahan mess, problem is Tom probably wont come back to an even worse Riley mess) and lets not forget NU got kicked out of a prestigious academic program on his watch. we're the only Big Ten School not a member. in fact, that membership was a requirement to join the big ten. here is the really big problem, who would take the NU gig knowing we regularly fire winning coaches? Bo's behavior aside, he was 9-3 for 7 years. most of us would take that in a minute.
  8. who would take the job? we consistently fire coaches who are 9-3 (understanding Bo's behavior got him canned as much as anything). 9. Just 2 And could just as easily be 4-0 shut it down man. Step away from the keyboard take a brisk walk to the park, yell at some kids and then come back and tell us how you feel you miss the point, they should never have been close enough to let the other team back into the game/lose. The staff is repeatedly out coached.. that is the point. the head man came from a school that lost way more then they ever won. I don't buy in the little school notion simply because he had the keys to an NFL team and got fired there because he was WAY under 500. The San Diego Charges have way more resources than OR. ST and he couldn't get it done there. I see nothing in his College or professional coaching career that suggests he is a coach that could recruit the talent needed to win conference championships much less national ones.. step away from the cool-aid. get a glass of water and open your eyes... Remember when I told you that you can't compare resources between an NFL organization, whose job it is to cater solely to football and a college football team, who is only part of a larger athletics program? If you can't, let me post it here for you. 2) I don't know if you're forgetting that lesser funded/smaller programs tend to also play other lesser funded/smaller programs. I get your point, but I just want to bring light to that. It should give you an indication of how a coach fares against like competition, but Riley's record isn't a product of winning slightly over 50% of his games against like competition. There's greater disparity in capacity between each of the schools in the P5 than against other conferences, and Riley was on the lower end of that spectrum in the Pac 10/2 in his career. Well, my points still stand. I had not ready your response on another tread.. based on your assessment above, Urban Meyer would be a middle of the road coach simply because he coached Utah (was it state?) who at the time was in the mountain west (again not power 5). Seems like he has achieved elite coaching status because he won at Utah... While on average I do agree with your assessment of the P5, it is not 100% correct. Dantonio took over a very week Mich. St. team and has done pretty well. they don't (or didn't) have the resources of say, Ohio St or even Nebraska and he has done really well. Another B1G coach that is approaching elite status is Jerry Kill. Imagine what he and his will do once he gets to a school where they have the resources to match any of the "elite" P5 schools? so, the notion that defending Riley's career/record because he was at a school lacking resources is at best partially true. Lots of very good coaches have won at these lower tier schools. Riley has not shown the same ability as Kill, Meyer, or Dantonio. the list could go on and on...
  10. The same way the bolievers defended bo for his final 5 seasons? not defending Bo (honestly that is a very old argument now since he is gone). He managed to lose big way more then he should have and his behavior was not good. Never said you were. However no reason to defend someone who hasn't even been given a chance to coach half a season here. Example: You have a 12 question test, you go 2-2 on the first 4 questions. You still have 8 questions left to pass the test. 10-2 an upset of tOSU for the B1G title followed by a Rose Bowl win over UCLA and a 12-2 season to use as a springboard to the NC next year How about a bet, not just for you but for everyone. If you had a gun to your head and had to bet everything you have earned in your life, family, house, cars, savings, retirement, etc......if the only two outcomes to wager were that this program under this staff were more likely to 1) win a big 10 championship, or 2) finish a season below .500. I wonder what the bets would be. I don't expect any honesty in any posts, but I've got a good idea how those wagers would look. good question, if this staff can get the defense (and I know they are trying) prepared and stop getting out coached on a regular basis they should be above 500 but no B1G 10 champions (are you talking about this year or however long this staff is in town?)..

Well, my points still stand. Winning is winning, Riley's staff has done poor for a Mid-tier program (OR ST).. HE has been around long enough that if he was a great coach he and his staff wouldn't be getting out coached on a regular basis... all you have to do is review the first four games to see that they were out coached in three of them. There is to much talent on this team to lose to a BYU program that got destroyed today by Michigan... You can try to apologize for Riley all you want but the proof is in the pudding.. These kids and fans deserve better than this. BTY, 1-15 season at the NFL level is a sign of a bad coach (period). Riley is the very nice coach, just not a elite coach that we should have if NU is going to repeatedly fire 9-3 coaches. That by itself says 9-3 isn't good enough at NU and an elite coach is required. Doubt anyone will every confuse Mike Riley as being the next Sabin, Meyer, or Dantonio. For the record, I do hope Riley turns the trajectory of the team around as I don't want to see NU lose.
  12. Go away. Can't handle the truth, I see There's zero truth to anything you say. You are just full of negativity. Find another team to follow in the meantime since you hate Riley and this staff so much. It's 4 games into a completely new scheme. Chill the F out. The negativity with Husker fans the last 10 years is sickening. So are delusional fans who only want a nice coach.. It's ok to expect more from your coaches. they may be 2-2 but they very easily could be 1-3... I think we would need to go back into early 60's to find another NU team with a 1-3 start... And could just as easily be 4-0 shut it down man. Step away from the keyboard take a brisk walk to the park, yell at some kids and then come back and tell us how you feel Just 2 you miss the point, they should never have been close enough to let the other team back into the game/lose. 13. Langsdorf has turned Tommy Armstrong into a potential NFL draft pick...our offense is great for QB's Banker has turned three others into sure-fire NFL draft picks Banker has done pretty well with Tommy.. probably one of this staff best early achievements.

You still have 8 questions left to pass the test. This isn't a college (or high school) test. what I saw today was a group of coaches that was way out coached. This should not be happening at NU. while they do have 8 more questions left on their test, I fully see at least four more incorrect answers and possible 6. the ones I see are, Mich. St, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern. the two others, Iowa and possibly Illinois depending on if they show up and play.. This team really looked unprepared on defense.. it does remind me of Kevin Cosgrove's defenses way more than it should.

  16. Not the team I am bashing (notice not one comment about a player), it is the sub-par Callahan like coaching staff we have. As long as Tommy Armstrong wears the NU uniform he will make the offensive coaches look good.. just like today they have never won anything at the college level except nicest coach of the year awards. It is Mike Riley just so you know. Now you can talk smack on the current leader of our program who is possible 1/4 of the way into his first season at NU. Every other coach was given time so give him some time as well. Do we appear to have some serious flaws? Sure do, nothing new. Spelling is all you got? Fine. RiLLLLLLey... expect more from your coaches not mediocrity
  17. Are you seriously comparing this team to the 1981 team? these coaches couldn't carry the water bottles for Tom. Just 2 in four games.. say 1981... another record broken by Mikey... By the end of the 1981 season Nebraska was playing Clemson for the NC, after winning 9 in a row. Maybe we'll see the same streak this year.
  18. The same way the bolievers defended bo for his final 5 seasons? not defending Bo (honestly that is a very old argument now since he is gone). He managed to lose big way more then he should have and his behavior was not good.

  20. Just 2 in four games.. say 1981... another record broken by Mikey...
  21. it will be interesting to see how the apologist attempt to defend Riley and Co.... lets hear it..
  22. what he is the second coming of Kevin Cosgrove.... UGH!!
  23. I guess we cannot spell Mike RieLLLLLLy without several "L's".
  24. You will be surprised negative nancy. Probably, Iowa generally folds by the end of the year. But, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Northwestern, I wouldn't list those as winnable games at this point At best, NU is 6-6, I fully expect 5-7 or (eek) 4-8. Illinois may beat us to.. Question, Who, just who, let Kevin Cosgrove and company bank into Nebraska? IT is BS to say it on the players, these clown sucked everywhere (in the US) they have been.. only reason were not 1-3 is that So Miss played like crap in the first half. Tommy is making these coaches look better then they are. when you have to win by playing sandlot quarter back things are really bad in Lincoln...
