  1. The next sound you hear will be WSU offering Leach a raise and/or extension. Tennessee's private jet is bringing an especially joyous holiday season to any coach it visits. Gotta love Leach's style:
  2. At this point, I think Tennessee fans would approve of Butch Jones being offered the Head Coaching position. There is a hilarious quote over there at VolNation in the Bo Pelini thread:
  3. Hey coach, phone for you. Who is it? "It's Tennessee"
  4. Are you saying that your HS specifically uses Insight Replay? (Or some other system). Is it really affordable for even High Schools? I was thinking it had to be a fairly Big Ticket item. Interesting: ‘A technological arms race:’ New replay devices widen the gap on high school sidelines
  5. Since the NFL has a year or two jump on the NCAA with regard to these tools, I would suggest that Nebraska quickly hire someone with experience running the system used in the NFL. I'm not sure how many connections within the NFL most NCAA Athletic Directors and their staffs have, but (if there isn't already) there is going to be a real rush to hire away some of these people to the major college ranks. I'd suggest getting to know the people with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos, for starters. This field is new enough that different teams probably have different Job Titles, which makes headhunting for them on LinkedIn.com a little difficult. I'm not sure that Insight Replay is the system used in the NFL, but I suspect that it is. There may be other companies competing in this space.
  6. Nebraska football (and other athletics) gained an edge, decades ago, by being among the first to embrace the science of nutrition and weight training. Over time, other schools caught up, but understanding and mastering things like this are a way to make up ground (or maintain ground gains) versus the field. I'd like to suggest that there is a Brave New World that Nebraska needs to be among the first to exploit, and it involves a significant NCAA rules change allowing the use of video during the game and on the sideline, for 2017. This moves the college game closer to what you see in the NFL. Imagine quarterback or the sideline head coach, being able to review overhead (press box) video of the defense on their last possession, or even in real time when calling plays. This rule change was suggested in 2016, but postponed until 2017. When the proposed NCAA change was announced, a company that makes a system (already in use in the NFL) was, obviously, excited about the opportunity to market to university programs. If they have ANY kind of a marketing program, I'm sure Nebraska (and other universities with cash to spend) have been approached about it. I'm not sure what all is involved with it, but I have the feeling that each university is going to need someone to head up a new department in charge of implementing the system, administering the system, and managing the system effectively during the game. The team that figures out how to exploit this new information flood most effectively is going to have a HUGE advantage until everyone else catches up. This means hiring people for new positions that don't even exist right now and training coaches and assistant coaches (Special Teams, anyone?) to take advantage of the in-game look that this provides. It will also revolutionize what the various units can see and discuss in half-time adjustments. I have not read all of the rules, but if these systems are not standardized across all campuses then a few questions come up: Do both sidelines need to have access to the video available in a stadium? If not, that could be a HUGE home field advantage. If they do both get access, one must become familiar with the number of cameras and their camera angles, (etc) that will be used when visiting an opponent with such a system. My point is that this opens a whole new can of worms and the teams that are on top of exploiting any such technology could have a tremendous edge until the playing field levels and everyone else catches up. (I can visualize taking the knowledge of which teams have this InsightReplay system playing a big role in covering the spread for betting, for example.) We throw the term "game-changer" around a lot, but this is literally going to be a GAME-CHANGER.
  7. Purdue could steal some headlines AND potentially get themselves to a serious level in the BiG with this hire. Imagine this televised game in 2018: Suddenly, IOWA is not the rivalry game.
  8. October 18, 2016 Bo Pelini Interested in Purdue? It looks like the former Nebraska football coach is willing to return to the Big Ten and coach Purdue football if offered the job.
  9. And I'm pretty sure that is just fine with SF's better half.
  10. If you google: Tennessee head coach football right now, this comes up... Interesting. Next Tennessee target? Or is Google just showing other football head coaches showing up in recent searches. Checking news, it appears that FSU is moving on Taggert (doing background checks).
  11. Smart A.D.s know how to raise money out of EVERY situation. It's a "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" moment, if they know how to use it. Don't confuse UCF's using the situation to raise money with a fundamental shift in Scott Frost's brain. He is N.
  12. A lot of people don't realize that Notre Dame joined the BiG in March of 2016 for HOCKEY ONLY. However, this was still significant: - source.
  13. Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman reports that Gundy “is expected to get a new deal” out of this
  14. I explained this yesterday. Coaches and their agents know that they can scare their current employer into giving them a raise and/or contract extension by being linked with high-dollar job openings. The funny thing is (as I linked to yesterday) this coach (Gundy) did this exact same thing, to the exact same school (Tennessee), back in 2012. Fool me ONCE, shame on you. Fool me TWICE... This is why Tennessee is now REALLY behind the 8-ball. They have to question whether ANY coach who expresses interest in their program is playing them like Gundy did, or seriously interested in the job.
  15. A couple of thoughts about Frost coaching their bowl game: a) his contract gives him $100K bonus for making a "major bowl game" (I'm guessing a Jan. 1 bowl qualifies). His contract gives him another $100K for winning that bowl game. b) that is chicken feed, compared to his contract at NU and he can likely be persuaded to walk away early, from a financial standpoint. c) being a guy that is loyal and has integrity, he could feel that (regardless of his next team/job) he owes it to these players to coach them through the bowl game. (Can we imagine Tom Osborne leaving Nebraska before a bowl game for a higher paying gig somewhere else?) d) being allowed to stay and coach UCF's bowl game would also probably depend on UCF wanting him to do that. They may want to name a coordinator the interim head coach and move on more quickly than Scott Frost does. So even if (c) is true, it takes both sides to agree to that happening e) from a "what's best for SF's brand" standpoint, I think there is more downside for him if he stays and loses the bowl game. If he walks away and UCF loses, it looks like they could not win without SF at the helm. If they win, it is still the program that SF built, just coached by one of his coordinators. How much more is his badge polished if he stays and wins? I think there is way more downside than upside to him staying f) Frankly, Scott Frosts "brand" really shifts to Nebraska following this championship game (win or lose). So how much time and recruits is he going to be willing to lose for his next gig? I'm guessing not much. Prediction: He is ours after the championship game and does not coach his bowl game. I'm less certain on what storyline is going to be on WHY that did not happen.
  16. Regarding Gundy to Tennessee... we are getting reports of some sort of delay at Stillwater International Airport:
  17. Re: Gundy to Tennessee From the Department of Redundancy Dept. Is history repeating itself (again)?
  18. Tennessee's situation is RIPE for exploitation for agents expressing interest in their job, just to get the coaches existing school to give their client a nice raise and/or extension. This is another reason that Moos' keeping his cards close to his vest (regarding names on his list, other than SF) is a wise one.
