  1. That sounds great, hope we can do all that.........still don't get why the obsession with positive and negative fans? Our attitude will follow what we see on the field. Do you think we should keep a positive attitude if we lose 3 of the first 6 games? Do you think my attitude will cause us to win all those games? We didn't hire the guy, had nothing to do with the decision.....why is our attitude so important? Personally I like the guy and it sounds like he knows a thing or two. Are donors bailing? Could you clue us in why newbs with 10 posts keep showing up lecturing us on our attitude? Allow this newb to clarify! I am new here. After Pelini got fired I was so hungry for news, so anxious to see what others were saying I searched and found this site. I immediately became a member, desperately wanting to converse with other Husker fans that were concerned about the program, excited about who the new coach would be, how the players were reacting, how it would affect recruits, etc., etc. Just because I'm new to this site does not mean I don't have an opinion, so please, show some respect. In terms of the negativity I reference in my post, it isn't just this site, I have other sites I belong to as well. Not to mention social media, i.e., Facebook and Twitter. In general I have seen and heard some of the craziest stuff from people who say they are a Husker fan, and being the fan I am I began to wonder why. It's like one poster on here said, it wouldn't matter if we hired God as our HC and Jesus and his disciples as his staff, some people would still bitch and moan. I was really just stating my opinion, not lecturing, but I do have 2 teenage kids so maybe I'm starting to come off as a lecturer all the time now. At any rate, thank you for your comments and for following this thread. Much like Beemer, I came to this board during the coaching search after finding it much more substantive, logical, and comedic than other options. Having been somewhere else for a long while, I am happy to be here. My earlier post was not meant to lecture anyone. After the Bo's buddies and Cos before them, I understand the apprehension over a HC hiring his trusted friend/s. I just believe attitude is important. Important to an organization from as much the bottom up, as the top down. That doesn't call for kool-aid drinking or ignoring facts, it just begs for an open opportunity, an even chance to see a thing through. My post didn't intend to call anyone out here, I was just speaking to the overall negativity that one can find out there in which, like Beemer said, even The Good Lord himself would have a difficult time convincing anyone of his merits. GBR!
  2. It shouldn't have to be stated but the negativity is ugly, counter productive, and completely contrary to the 'Nebraska Way'. There is a huge upgrade in coaching talent of Riley's crew over that of Bo's crew. NU fans were sold on a false premise and delusions of grandeur - we are all guilty. Reality says there was never anyone else in play yet we all wanted to believe that if it wasn't Tressel, it'd be Patterson, if not him then someone else from a common list of A-list names. Well the reality of it Riley gives us what we are looking for in terms of both coaching ability as well as national respect and attention. A poster on HuskerMax wrote a great post on the issue of Riley's coaching strategy and philosophy. It should be mandatory reading for ALL fans. I will post the link (if that is allowed). If that isn't allowed, I apologize (I am new here) and you'll have to find the post yourself. It is titled "Mike Riley Nike Coach of the Year Clinic Talk (2013)". Its worth the time to read and it should answer any fan's fear of Riley and where he will take NU: http://forum.huskermax.com/vbbs/showthread.php?69099-Mike-Riley-Nike-Coach-of-the-Year-Clinic-Talk-(2013) Hopefully, the negative fans get it out of their systems, see the big picture, and give 100% support from Springball on...
  3. What if he was offered along with a big fat raise? What would that say? It would say to me that he was pissed he didnt get offered the HC job. Would his anger be equally leveled at Florida? Michigan? Frost has done a great job of earning each stair step up during his coaching career. To get to be a HC at a Power 5 program, he has to complete yet another step.
  4. I have to admit, I was all for the combo of Tressel and Frost. The veteran and the newbie. No confusion for the fans as to where the line was drawn. With Riley on board, my opinion on Frost has changed not because of Frost but because of us, the fans. Knee deep in Tressel's first bad game, I didn't worry about fans screaming for his head and hearing 'We want Frost' chants throughout the stadium. Midway through Riley's first bad game? Not so sure. Adding to my change of opinion was the difference between the systems of Riley and Frost (in terms of familiarity and play calling) as well as the natural question of whether Frost would have ever been considered for the OC job at either Michigan or Florida. I wish Frost the best but I think its best for both parties that his path doesn't cross NU's yet.
  5. Production. Trust. Familiarity. Any CEO worth their salt seeks the same when completing a crew. If this coaching search experience has taught us anything, its to wait for things to be fully defined before declaring 'Ramming Speed!' Last I checked yesterday, it was all but known that Riley's ST, WR, and possibly DB coach were NU bound. We have since added his LB coach (which by all accounts looks like a great addition). And as far as Banker goes, to my knowledge its neither confirmed nor defined yet but regardless, Jason Peter (for one) would disagree with all the angst: Jason Peter @jasonpeter ยท 12h12 hours ago Spoke to 1 of the great defensive coaches in college history last nite, said if @Coach_Riley brings Mark Banker as DC,we should b very happy
  6. Bo was given every resource and opportunity to succeed. Bo deserved to go, don't get me wrong, but from what I understand there were things requested to SE that were not granted. Things I have already mentioned earlier in this thread. With Bo, maybe those things would have been not properly utilized if they were granted. With the change in place, logic would dictate that SE would give Riley a blank check and Riley, being the inventive and resourceful person that he is, will be the guy to ask for the right things and move in the right directions. I think our first opportunity to see SE's level of support will be the level of expertise that Riley accumulates in his crew of assistants. If he is given an open checkbook to hire the best, great things await.
  7. SE is on a ledge with this hire. He has garnered national credit from the media types and received some heat from the locals. One way or the other, all of SE's chips are on the table in regards to Riley's success. Given that, I have hopes that SE will give Riley EVERYTHING that he wants. I like Riley and think he can be successful here but he will need some tools that Bo wasn't given.
  8. Credit for what, staying quiet? Like Riley (which I do) or not, SE had one name on the list and never moved beyond it (if one is to believe Perlman). I don't think any credit is due SE until we see what kind of support he gives Riley. Support will start with an open checkbook to hire a top quality crew of assistants, continue with expanding the current construct of the recruiting office (and private jet travel for AC's), and extend to aspects of nutrition as well as strength and conditioning. If SE does his job there, then he will deserve credit. Until then, any hire would provide some sort of arguable hope of improvement at this stage in the game.
  9. Very smart start. Usually when one does the little things right, the big things fall into place.
