  1. Is that really any worse than a run getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage on 3rd and short? Yes BS. There are screams coming from virtually every direction.....fans and media......for Riley's offense to establish the running game, especially on short distance 3rd downs. Why would you want to do the smart thing and run on 3rd or 4th and 1 when you can hurl a 30-40 yd fade route down the field instead? I just watched Alabama convert a 4th and 2 with a roll out play action pass to the flats. Play calling wasn't the issue vs. Iowa. Tommy had Cethan Carter (TE) wide open on the play. Tommy's lack of vision and ability to check down prevented us from converting on that 4th down. He just made a terrible decision and everyone knows it. A good offensive coordinator knows how to put an offense in position to succeed. I wonder if ANY play we needed a yard or two if Cross or Jano would have been a more viable option than ANY pass play? Not with the offensive line we had.
  2. Gerry's comment (where you're basing your opinion) contradicts every single thing the players and coaches have said for the last year. And Ameer's play was great, but it was a tie game. Also, we won, which is slightly different than getting blown out by Purdue. I think you don't know the difference between an opinion and a fact. If you consider a 10 point loss to Purdue a blowout, what do you consider the beatdowns we took at the hands of Pelini? Did you watch the game? NU was down by 39 points at one point or something crazy like that. To a team that averages 1 fbs win per year over the last three or four. I think it was around 19 but what is 20 points when you are trying to make something into a lie that it is not.

The comments of the players and coaches are simply lip service and we all know that. Gerry's comment was finally a little truth that leaked out.
  4. The players themselves said that they finally decided to buy in, you didn't have to go to a message board for that. It is clear from the recruiting boards and services that the talent level that we are in on is better than the past several years. Bo never had to turn talent away, he was giving out scollies to walkons like candy because he could not fill them. That is a clear indication that this team will be better next year and beyond under Riley and staff. BTW, a supernatural play by Ameer against McNeese St. kept us from the worst loss in the 100 +years history of the program, and 8 of the top 10 worst losses in the history of the program by points came under the previous staff, I haven't seen that we will have any more of that anytime soon. That's pure progress.
  5. Oh, ok. http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite On a consistant basis the answer is still no. Bo got blown out by all of those teams. Not all, but it was a problem. Riley had it too at OSU, along with losses to really bad teams. I truly hope he turns it around, but it's pure speculation and wishing at this point as there's simply no evidence for it. I think there is evidence. The worst we lost was 10 points or less, with a mostly disinterested team until the end of the season. Recruiting is going very well and the team will have a year in his system to better understand it and execute it better.
  6. Based on what? Talent at NU has been fairly consistent across the last 4 coaches and most of TO's career. It's not going to get much better without cheating. Our coach needs to be able to win with what he had on the roster right now, or he's the wrong coach. There is no where near the talent here now to compete with top ten teams. It was much better under Osborne my a mile (Jason Peter and Grant Wistrom would laugh in your face) and Callahan was on his way to big improvements before he was let go. Solich and Bo only recruited MAC talent with a few exceptions. Callahan inherited more and higher drafted NFL picks than Bo did. Sorry, the answer to that is a huge NO!

  9. The anticipation of a quarterback coming in who is currently in high school. Not since Callahan V.1 has there been so much excitement about that. Agreed, Riley and Langsdorf have finally found a actual quarterback instead of these wannabee's that we have been playing. I m guessing he is even coachable.
  10. It has been proven over and over again that if you do not finish in the top 15 in recruiting, you will not win a championship. Its all about talent. Riley is in the process of upgrading the talent on the field as we speak.
  11. Doing that didnt work well for the last guy. Thankfully Bo's focus on making good students is helping this coach get to a bowl game on 5 wins. Maybe MR should split his $150,000 bonus with Bo since that's the reason we qualify. They can say what ever they want about why BP was fired, he was fired because of the way he acted on the sideline, towards his bosses, towards the fan base and media. I was fine with his coaching and was very happy with the academic standards he set as a HC, but that type of personality is exhausting. If you have neve worked with or for someone like that you will never know. I have had a boss like that, it was like walking on egg shells all the time. One minute he was great and the next he would blow up about some stupid insignificant thing. If BP would have won 70+% of his games and had that type of academic record and a better additude about things, he would still be at Nebraska. He doesn't have to be the nicest guy in the world, he just needs to not be a big dick. True, Nick Saban is not the nicest guy in the world, neither is Mark Dantonio with the media, and they do show some displeasure on the sidelines, but it's not the over the top stuff we saw from Bo. I loved the Bo hire eight years ago, and I thought he was doing a good job in the first two or three years. It seems the move to the B1G didn't do so well, but then maybe after three years, that coincided with the less than stellar recruiting. But, how bad were those guys because he won nine games with them and Riley could only eek out 5......help I'm going in circles again. Harbaugh and Kelly are far worse than Bo. So is Saban if one actually watches their games. Personally, I'd rather see that than the "hands in pockets, stare at the ground and wait for it to be over" stuff that we see from other coaches. Kelly maybe Harbaugh no. Saban meh .I don't think any of these 3 cost their team a game due to tantrums like Bo did his this year. the difference is these guys win games that matter while Bo got his ass kicked repeatedly in the games that mattered and looked like a tool doing it. as for Riley, hes a f'ing zombie on the sideline and what looks to me des little as far as play calls or in game coaching. but there isn't a camera fixed on him like there was on Bo during games so I could be wrong. That was said about Oz for years when he stood on the sideling so if you are taking a shot at Riley, you are taking shot at Oz. Ozzy was calling the plays in for the O and thinking what plays to run. Riley is not calling the plays, big difference and not a smack on Ozzy either. Big difference, not really. A lot of head coaches do not call plays.

Tom is engaged in the game. Riley doesn't seem to be. but thanks for clearing my thoughts.... You should attend a game sometime, you might think differently

  14. Switzer's offense would drop sometimes 7 fumbles a game and yet still win.

I agree fans need to fix themselves but didn't Franks uh little Frankie .. get him fired? or have a lot to do with it??Unsubstantiated rumor based on a smear campaign engineered after the Peder royally screwed up the search and hire. Banging coeds and not recruiting gets you fired anywhere. Solich was a great recruiter. Joe Daily and Santino Panico say hi.
  16. I think everyone agrees that it has to be the point of emphasis going into next fall.
  17. Shows what a simple upgrade in coaching will do if the players want to be coached. Good on Alonzo. Imagine if the entire staff had been an upgrade...god Imagine if the entire team would have accepted coaching from the start until waiting until the last 3 games, it would have been quite a season. Well I guess, everyone except the qb, because he never did. 9-10 wins would have been easy.
  18. My expectations are for Riley to recruit some elite talent to replace many of the MAC players Bo brought in and win some games, maybe a championship or two.

  20. The last several years it has been mostly a Qb problem. Ameer was a sophomore the last time he had fumblitisI'll agree that this year it was mostly a QB problem. But even in 2013 and last year Ameer had some troubles with fumbling. Penn State in 2013 comes to mind when he fumbled going in to the endzone or 2014 against MSU he fumbles in the redzone. My point is that it's a team thing that needs to be fixed. Takeaways on defense is a bigger problem over the longhaul, I see that as a team problem. The Qb can be replaced but it has to be an identity on defense.
  21. Tommy Armstrong is among the national leaders in interceptions. Unfortunately, he plays on the offensive side of the football in a Mike Riley offense. Of course it's not all on the quarterback, but it's the position that touches the football virtually every offensive snap. And this foolish Callahan V.2 offense is going to be turnover prone.....it puts the ball in the air too much. Get serious, an offense like Oregon and Baylor are turnover prone, Riley's offense is not in that category. With a competent Qb, it would be one of the least prone to turnovers.

  24. Recruiting a quality Qb and ball hawking db's will fix most of our problems, its not a fumbling problem, its an interception problem. (and also a take away problem) I hope POB is the answer.
  25. I think Riley had the right idea with Armstrong at quarterback.....it's just a shame he was so turnover prone. Fixed that for you.
