  1. Best part of a Scott Frost hire would be the chance for him to coach here for decades - like a Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern, a lifer, a former player, a guy who actually wants to be here, and can spread the gospel to recruits.
  2. When the targeting rule was first instituted, this is not even close to what they were trying to stop. Worst call I've seen this season.
  3. My only problem with the targeting call is the rule itself. At some point you have to allow a defensive player the chance to make a play. There was no way for Gerry to break up the play other than to target. Football is giving the offense so much leeway anymore it's becoming unbearable at times I really disagree with your conclusion that Gerry had no other way to play it. The game isn't going to survive if the leagues don't find someway to minimize the risk of concussions at best, and more serious injuries at worst. This particular hit was reminiscent to me of the Darryl Stingley play where he was airborn reaching for a ball and paralyzed by Jack Tatum, and Gerry's hit was wildly irresonsible IMO.
  4. Here's some objective analysis of what I saw today: 1. Armstrong is a terrible QB 2. The 4th down fade pass was a shockingly poor and low percentage call by the coaching staff 3. The Nate Gerry call was about the most obvious example of targeting I can recall. The entire officiating crew saw it and threw flags, and the targeting ruling was upheld after only about 15 seconds of review. The overwhelming majority of people posting here whining about that call sound ridiculous; it's great to root for the team, but you can't be such a homer you are blinded by reality. 4. I still think Riley is as good as anyone they could get to take this job. But it takes time to implement a system and build a roster that can execute it. Gve the man some time.
  5. We scored 29 4th quarter points, so please don't even try to the "we quit" story. Sometimes when you lose some close ones it's very hard to keep the players motivated and enthusiastic. It's not just riley finding this difficult, it happens to guys like John Harbaugh. I'm guessing the Husker faithful would want to fire him too.
  6. That will be shown on SportsCenter 327 times over the next week. Thank goodness he didn't score - if he had they'd have made it part of their opening like that skiier on Wide World of Sports.
  7. You think a guy is going to move from Stanford to Nebraska? Have you been to Stanford? It's paradise on earth Alex, the weather is great, it smells like cedar in the air, it's a few miles from one of the world's great cities, near the ocean and the mountains, night life of every kind, world class restaurants, the finest golf courses, etc. If I'm Shaw, I wouldn't even return the call.
  8. I can't take it anymore. Does anyone posting here have clue? If you throw a pass way behind the receiver, bad things happen. It doesn't mean you are cursed, it means you can't throw accurately, which is a function of coaching, talent, effort, and practice.
  9. Quick, someone explain to Maudfather what 4th down means.
  10. Get it to a two score game Yes, that's right. We now need 8 and 3 to tie. Wait a minute. Who are you people? This is like watching a game with my wife and having to explain what a field goal is.
  11. I tried this two quarters ago....when it was still a game. When we lose how much crow will you eat? I'm confused. Do you want Nebraska to lose?
  12. The only lack of heart I see is here in this chatroom. Riley may not be Weeb Ewbank, but he has coached well enough to win a lot of games this year that turned into L's based on some last second fluke plays and bad luck. When nebraska comes back to win this game today you guys should feel awfully embarrassed.
  13. Credit where credit is due. Nebraska is playing tough, but Purdue is simply the better team.
  14. Give me a break - the officiating had nothing to do with it. The team played well in stretches, but could not beat a BYU team that was decimated with injurues to key players on both sides of the ball. It never should have come down to that final play, but sometimes you win those (like against Northwestern a while back), and sometimes you don't.
