  1. OK, not necessarily a Husker fan, but I follow them. Live here and all. If the Huskers were playing Central Michigan, it would be a game... But they are playing Western Michigan. They will beat them bad. Enough said. Don't worry Husker Nation!
  2. Take it from a Michigan fan, who lives in Omaha, Kirk H is a MORON!!!! Remember, he BROKE the news that Miles and Tenuto were coming to Michigan. A done deal. While I believe Miles would have come if Herby had not "broke the news," the guys speaks without thinking sometimes. Yes, I can't stand the guy. BUt apart from that, I think the Huskers will do VERY well this year. Again, not a fan of the team, but I do follow them (how can I not, living here). There is way too much pride in Husker-land! Seriously, I have lived all over the country, and no other state supports any one team like Nebraska does. All that positive energy is going to pay off!
  3. An article on Scout this morning: http://michigan.scout.com/2/655961.html He will probably be a Wolverine within a week. FROM ARTICLE: "As far as announcing a college decision, McGuffie said: "I'll be ready to say something when I get home." When asked for a timetable, he said: "I'll probably get something set up for next week."
  4. He just made a visit to Michigan. His father is went to Lapeer East, same school as Jake Long, All American O-Lineman. I don't think he is going anywhere but Michigan.
  5. "QBTW, The UP is at least as boring as Iowa, get away from your major cities in Michigan and the activity level will match any other midwest state." You've got to be kidding, right? If you are looking for city things to do, yes, but the UP is the best place in the midwest for outdoor activities. Bar none. Hundreds of miles of shoreline, the porucpine mts., huge forests, amazing hunting, boating, great skiing, two national parks, Mackinaw....you get the picture. Iowa??? reallY?
  6. I'm glad to see that you've come around Husker Rob. My short experience on this board has shown me that you and Redman have a way of not hearing what is being said. YOu ridicule people for not making the trip to San Antonio, all the while not knowing their situation, yet you aren't even going. Sure you have an excuse, but excuses are like what....??? and they both stink.
  7. Michigan sport's teams have no problem selling out, see Michigan football, they sell out 112,000 people EVERY game and lead the nation in attendance every year. I call that great fan support. Other than Notre Dame, Michigan is the largest TV draw. Just try getting a ticket to the Red Wings or Pistons, and even the Lions sell out. The topic was about traveling to a crappy bowl game. People in Michigan have many other places to spend their sports entertainment dollars, unlike Nebraska.
  8. There is no doubt about it, the Husker fans travel very well. Perhaps the best in the country. However, that does not meen you have a better tradition. The Nebraska football team is the ONLY show in the entire state. There are no other big time programs or professional sports. None. You're newspaper puts women's basketweeving on the front of the sports page, and it's all over the local news when BC has anything to say. The state of Michigan has 5 Division 1 football programs and all 4 major pro sports. College basketball is also huge there: MSU is a perenial national power, and Michigan BB is still very popular despite being down the past few years. Red Wings, need I say more? Pistons, duh, best team in the NBA. Lions are bad, but the fans in Michigan are die-hard and will always support them (all the while praying for Barry Sanders to come back). Tigers aren't much better than the Lions, but still have a huge following. Within in a years span, the NBA finals and the Super Bowl will have been played in the state. Nebraska gets excited when they have a volleyball regional in the Quest Center. But that is part of its charm. I live here and appreciate the attention given to all the college sports. I love UNO hockey. But as far as national-level sports, the Husker football team is it (sorry, Jays b-ball is a local thing). So they are ALL there is to look forward too. It's no surprise that college teams in states with few other options have a good traveling fan base (Iowa, South Carolina). With that said, Michigan does have the largest Alumni in the country and does fairly well with locals going to games. But if Michigan were going to a BCS, they would travel. It just takes more than a dissapointing bowl game to get them to do it.
  9. "but in reality, you really won't know until they play. " Fair enough Redman. I'm looking forward to it.
  10. I've seen evey Michigan game this year (they are on ESPN or ABC every week) and every NU game that was telivied/p.p.v. Nebraska holds the advantage when it comes to coaching. I know, BC? But he is much better than Lloyd Carr. If Lloyd gets a 10 point lead, he WILL go into a prevent and run the ball up the middle, or throw a 3 yard out when they need 7. If you haven't followed Michigan at all, which I'm sure is most of you, Lloyd is pathetic. However, Michigan is truly a much better football team. That is not just because I'm a Michigan fan, and I think if you are at all objective, you would agree. This year, Nebraska's offense has looked incabpable, most of the time, of doing anything. Michigan on the other hand has gone into ultra conservative modes, killing themselves (see Wisconsin, Minnesota, OSU). When they decide to play, or, when Lloyd decides to let them play, their talent, size and speed is very good. Like I said, I've seen both teams alot this year. I would feel more confident of a solid win if UM had a different coach, pretty much any other coach in the country, but alas they have Carr. He is your best chance of winning. That's a fact, because talent wise, NU does not compare.
  11. Sooo, tradition prior to 1934 doesn't count? I think its safe to say that Michigan has consistatntly been one of football's best for more than 100 years! There's no doubt Nebraska was amazing in the 1990's, but Michigan hasn't had the ups and downs on the same level of Nebraska. They were to 9 straight New Years day bowls up to this year, has Nebraska ever done that?? They currently have the logest running bowl streak, and won't have a collapse as bad as Nebraska's, meaning they will surpase your 35 very soon. Lead the nation in attendence every year, selling out nearly 112,000 every game. The most well known fight song and helmets. THey play in the best rivalry (OSU). They have the all time best winning percentage. I suppose you can console yourself and say that the AP is somehow core to football tradition, but I don't think that makes any sense. So in 50 years, will people discredit Nebraska's records because their titles came under the AP and not some future poll? Michigan pioneered the sport. Thye went to South Bend and TAUGHT Notre Dame the game. So if you want to say Nebraska has the best tradition since 1950, 1960, or some other year, you can debate it. But Michigan is tops all time. FACT. It's just too bad they couldn't have played in 1997. But it's a pretty good bet that the Wolverines will destroy Nebraska later this month. I suppose you will find a way to justify it though.
  12. Creighton Jay: Boy, you articulated that much better than I ever could. Every one I know in Michigan feels the exact same way. Lloyd is conservative to the point of being scared, utterly predictable and quite frankly, an idiot.
  13. I'm a Michigan fan living in Omaha, and have seen how both coaches under fire. The vast majority of Michigan fans want Carr gone NOW, and I am one of them. He has muddled them in 3 and 4 loss seasons for several years now. He is ULTRA conservative and has NO imagination in play calling. And for some reason, he plays to the talent level of his opponents. No matter if its a MAC team or Ohio State. A 7 point lead is big enough for Carr to play prevent defenses and run up the middle. Seriously, Michigan has not had the talent drop off that Nebraska has had. They are one of the most talented teams in the country EVERY year, yet Lloyd is more concerned with 'how hard they played' than in winning. WTF!!! I know Husker fans aren't happy with Callahan, but he still has a little grace I think, especially after the CU win. It looks like his system is starting to take hold and will get better as his recruits get more seasoned. But Carr has NO excuses. We want him gone. We want to get back to beating Ohio State and staying in the top Five, not top 20!
  14. Michigan's streak of nine straight New Years day bowl games is now over (and rightfully so). They have a lot to prove in this bowl game. The critics in Michigan have been calling for Lloyd's head (I'm one of them). I'm really looking forward to it. I'm currious to see if they come prepared or not, because Nebraska will win if they aren't.
  15. OK, now I admit to being a Michigan fan who lives in Omaha. I am realistic about the Wolverines this year and realize there shortcomings. I have seen every Michigan game this year AND every Nebraska game that has been on TV or pay-per-view. The Huskers looked very good against Colorado two weeks ago and it appears that they are really improving. Michigan has been eradic and lost four very close games. There is no doubt that Michigan is more talented than Nebraska, and should win. However, Lloyd Carr coaches the team and is very conservative. OK, that's an understatement, a 3 point lead is something you sit on in his view. Michigan was up by 2 scores late in the fourth quater against Ohio State, and sure enough, he goes into a prevent defense and runds the ball up the middle. He WILL not play to win, he plays to survive. Because Lloyd Carr coaches this team, Nebraska very well could pull it off. This will be a very interesting game and lots of fun. I will enjoy the ribbing with my inlaws and co-workers. I hope Michigan opens it up though... and if they do it will be tough for the Huskers.
