  1. The Wisconsin offer is seriously making him reconsider. He wants to OV there but can’t until the new year, so it’s throwing a wrench in his plans to sign at this early signing period.
  2. Haha yeah, that always sounded like good ole fashion counter-recruiting from Iowa to me. I’m sure they gave him that idea. He visited here and our staff put that silly notion to rest. Alabama has Mike LBs who are 6’4”, 250lbs but the rest of the country has Mike LBs who are Honas’ size. Cichy is 6’3” but Edwards is 6’1”. Heck, the SF 49ers had two incredible 3-4 ILBs in 6’1” Patrick Willis and barely 6’ Navarro Bowman.
  3. I don’t believe we will completely fill this year. Combination of not enough time and not wanting to hand out scholarships just to hand them out. At the very least, we won’t fill by this early signing day and might try to re-evaluate in January. I had previously said we could probably fill to ~25 but I think that was too enthusiastic and we will like end somewhere around 17. Next year, by current numbers, I believe we will need around 17. Hard to say what kind of attrition we are looking at though. Certainly a few guys who might not fit the new offense and guys who never really fit the 3-4.
  4. I definitely think Bookie is a 3 year guy, which is why I thought we would have a chance with him no matter what. Relationships and coaching matter a ton to him, but I think getting a chance to play from day 1 is the most important thing on his list.
  5. He was included in Schaefer’s confirmed visitors list. That was before he was officially here though so it’s definitely possible he missed his visit. Maybe he had to leave before/got here after that picture of all the visitors? Or maybe he had to meet with academic people while all that was going on. I don’t actually know haha, just trying to stay positive that he made it. Would be a major bummer to miss on him and Allen.
  6. That’s a far more impressive list of visitors than I would have expected them to have.
  7. Doesn’t sound like it. He also deleted the tweet of the in home visit with our staff. We look to be chopped out of his top 5.
  8. I subscribe to 247 so I’m not sure if this is behind a paywall - I don’t believe it is - but this link shows visitors: https://nebraska.247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/Visits JUCO Jordan Allen has been officially removed from the visitors list this weekend.
  9. CBs to Western Michigan rolling in including one from Wiltfong.
  10. Dang. He fills an immediate need. I can just picture him committing to Colorado and giving us fits the next two years.
  11. Wiltfong did a show with the Ohio State guys and they summed up Cam Brown as a “lay-up” for Ohio State and that he will be signing with them next week. They spent about a minute talking about him and moved on to the next recruit quickly because of how little intrigue there is with Brown.
  12. Probably has to be considered a soft verbal at this point? Seems like he’s still mostly about Nebraska but that Tennessee has him reconsidering.
  13. Yeah, weird 40 time. But Duke And VT DB offers are gold so maybe it was just a bad day for him when he got officially timed. If he had a sketchy offer list, I’d be concerned but I think he’s legit.
  14. Jordan Allen the JUCO? Becton seems like he’s a DE in our system. He’s heavier than Allen is despite being a few years younger, not having a college weight room, and probably being a little shorter. Becton will have a couple years to add 30+lbs and play on our DLine. Allen can drop back in coverage as well as rush the passer. He would also play with his hand in the dirt, acting as a 4th lineman at times. He’s perfect at OLB for us.
  15. The 3-4 can be kind of silly at times when it comes to DLinemen. For example, I thought it was weird that Mapieu was considered our NT and that we weren’t going to recruit any other “NTs.” He seems more like a DT to me, or a guy who is considered a DT/DE in our system. He has the height and length to take on OTs, and the size to do it well. Williams on the other hand, seems like purely a nose-tackle to me, but our staff is saying they will utilize him everywhere on the line in their recruiting pitch haha. I agree that Mapieu and Wildeman by themselves is not enough of a DLine haul. Especially when one of those players has academics to get on track still. We need at least one more recruit there, hopefully it’s Williams.
  16. There have been a couple CB predictions of Banks to Tennessee. With the news that he’s visiting them, I think we might no longer have a spot for him. Just reading the tea leaves, he might have told us “no thanks,” but I think it’s likely that our staff likes their chances with 2 different RBs.
  17. I think the staff is all in on flipping Fleeks from Baylor. Even though he would probably play all over the field for us, I think the combination of Fleeks and Bell take Banks’ spot.
  18. I’m really excited at the possibility of Hampton and Roberts being our starting ILBs. There will be some bumps since they’re both young but those two are all conference ILBs sooner rather than later in my opinion. Hampton looked great from every report I’ve heard. Probably not a bad idea to bring one in like warrior mentioned, I’m just trying to figure out the moving pieces haha. Some places we have no choice but to bring a JUCO in, and some places where a JUCO might mean attrition. Definitely would prefer upper classmen at those spots, but as a general rule, ILB and RB are two positions where you can trust a freshman in a pinch. Just so much about those positions are pure instincts where other positions on the field require more years in the system.
  19. Fair points, definitely excited to see some speed and versatility. At the very least, McGriff seems like a matchup nightmare in the redzone. I’ll be interested to see if we try to secure that JUCO ILB. That’s a position I thought we were alright in, especially because teams all around the country start freshmen and sophomores there. Could just be for class balance and to get more of a sure thing in place, but it could also mean some expected attrition there.
  20. For sure, good points. I actually think it’s refreshing that the staff found a talent they believe has great potential, and stuck with him regardless of his star rating. We are going to have to take chances on players and recruiting Florida well means finding hidden gems that the Big 3 forgot/missed in the offering process. I think it’s also important to minimize those takes. Since we had a coaching change, we might see a couple more reaches simply because the staff built relationships with players they were recruiting to UCF. 2019 looks like it could be like 2017 fun where we have several all American recruits making a decision that includes us, except Frost will close though.
  21. I get it. But remember, we had people talking about whether or not Diaco would get us into the top 10 in team defense, or if we’d be okay with just top 25. It doesn’t have to always be 100% sunshine pumping, I’m just sharing my opinion. What his highlights don’t show (what any highlight reel doesn’t show) is the drops and it doesn’t account for the level of competition. And yes, it’s entirely possible, if not probable, that we stole a hidden gem. I’m not saying he’s going to suck, I’m just saying it’s a slightly suspicious take due to a weak offer list.
  22. I’m not crazy about the McGriff take. I will no doubt trust Frost and the assistants on offense because they clearly know what makes their offense work but he feels like a G-5 player in my opinion. Not trying to be a downer though, there are exciting times ahead and we are in on some big time recruits. Going to be a fun couple of months.
  23. Yeah, definitely seems like a bit of a tweener. Probably a true 4-3 DE, but maybe the coaches love his frame and playstyle and believe he could bulk up to a 3-4 DE. Doesn’t seem to be an OLB in my opinion.
  24. Agree with you both, good points. I think if we take a JUCO at QB, RB, or WR, then it will likely be a sign of attrition before the spring (or they know someone will transfer during the spring like at QB). Especially at RB, because if Bryant is able to return at full health, then we only need a prep RB. I worried about Tyjon transferring once KW wasn’t retained but I think he is solid and on board. Morgan is thinking about the NFL but I think he comes back. But I still wonder because of how close all those guys are with KW. I don’t have any inside info, I’m just speculating though. We will get a real good idea based on what committments our staff accepts.
  25. Obviously. But the staff is offering a lot of JUCOs and it stands to reason that they’re going to try to sign some of them. Minn was expressing some concern on if we were going to take too many, I’m simply saying the numbers will work either way. We need a JUCO at OLB, OT, and DB at the very least in my opinion. Seems like the staff is trying hard for a JUCO TE, RB, and WR as well. We will have to see what all happens in the next month.
