  1. No matter your stance, cases climbing here in Nebraska is not a good sign. https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/ece0db09da4d4ca68252c3967aa1e9dd We are averaging about 300 cases a day for the last 8 days straight. The last similar stretch of cases was in early May. 12 deaths in the last week and 47 new hospitalizations. The vast majority of the new cases are in Lincoln and Omaha. As a state, about 1.4% of the population has had a confirmed positive test. That means we have probably had 10-15% of the population actually have it. Long ways from herd immunity. The good news is that a spike now will hopefully lead to people being a little more careful so we have another couple month drop around the start of football. I also think adults will be more careful once grades k-12 starts school in 2 weeks.
  2. Your express lane theory could work... Some tests are out there providing fairly quick results.
  3. Another thought - How loud would a stadium full of masked people be? Guessing it would still be loud but definitely not the same.
  4. Even with out lower than national average numbers, a full stadium would likely be a pretty bad idea. One person could give it to 100s. Maybe rapid testing will be developed that will change things? Test everyone at the gate? Show up with a recent negative test to be admitted? Crazy but some of our fan base would likely do it to attend.
  5. I'm guessing Moos is just not going to make a firm statement on attendance until he absolutely has to. Why not be optimistic until something forces you not to be. As the previous 7 months have shown us, a lot can change in 30 days.
  6. I just received official word that our kids are going back to school August 13th (elementary-high school). Masks will be required by all faculty and staff. Fall sports, as of now, are scheduled as normal. Our school is about an hour away from Lincoln so gives everyone an idea what is happening in the area.
  7. Makes sense. Figured you or Kansas45 would find some way to cast a shadow on our good time.
  8. I just think you are being a pessimist. I'll be hunting in Wyoming during the first 2 weeks of season and won't watch a couple in October for the same reasons. I love Husker football but my world doesn't revolve around it. I truly believe the kids should be playing. I truly believe our media is preying on scared people. Yes the virus is real and should be a concern- especially for anyone over the age of 35. However the data suggests that is doesn't impact the young enough to really even be a concern imo. It certainly has less impact than the flu for them from everything we know now. But what about the UNKNOWNS??? That's just it, they don't know and I refuse to be scared of what might be. I know, but what about the extreme case of (fill in the blank). There are extreme cases of just about everything. IMO, we can't live our lives worried about the small % chance that something bad will happen. Our beliefs won't likely ever align and that's ok. Work is slow today and it has been fun to be on today. Especially with the thread Knap started about the Frankenstein schedule. I'm merely suggesting you consider there could be some positives if you look for them.
  9. I also predict that Kansas45 will give dire predictions tomorrow as well. Some of what you post may come true but man it has to be sad to be so negative all the time. I'm hopeful we some football in 4 weeks. Crazy to think but this year could be a huge turning point for Nebraska, especially if there is a lot of talent sitting out from the other sidelines.
  10. I used one from each year with 2009 being the only year with 2 games. wk 1 - win 47-24 Western Mi (2008) wk 2 - win 52-17 Wyoming (2016) wk 3 - win 44-8 NIU (2019) wk 4 - win 73-7 Idaho St (2012) wk 5 - win 45-14 Illinois (2014) wk 6 - win 34-27 Ohio State (2011) wk 7 - win 53-28 Minnesota (2018) wk 8 - win 25-24 Purdue (2017) wk 9 - win 10-3 Oklahoma (2009) wk 10 - win 39-38 Michigan St (2015) wk 11 - win 73-31 K State (2007) wk 12 - win 45-17 Colorado (2010) wk 13 - win 24-19 Georgia (2013) wk 14 - win 33-0 Arizona (2009)
  11. They took the herd immunity team approach apparently. Looks like it might pay off for them though if the league gives them extra prep time.
  12. Have to think it would be a benefit for us. Most of our key talent are underclassmen.
  13. Kanp, try hard to focus. We are discussing what will happen in 4 weeks when football starts. How many of the 140,000 that passed were college athletes? I think most of know the answer.
  14. Another flaw with our society regarding "the flu" is that people call a lot of illnesses the flu when they really aren't. It desensitizes us to the real flu's severity.
  15. Any results of antibody testing in college teams being released? I know some were reporting that they were giving them but I haven't seen any of the results.
  16. Interesting to think about for sure- For those seniors that aren't quite making the cut for the NFL, they may want the chance to play to prove themselves. Guessing we see a lot of transfer portal activity with those guys landing wherever they can find a spot. Could make for a very competitive year with some typically below average teams competing at a higher level.
  17. Any idea if there were covid cases or just kids not complying with the rules?
  18. 1- I follow the local health directives in place at the time. I absolutely open school if it's allowed. 2- I follow the local health directives in place at the time. I absolutely open school if it's allowed. 3- I follow the directives of the B1G, NCAA, and local health directives in place at the time. 4- What my boss tells me to do. 5- I tell them they are an adult and it's their decision. Exactly what I told my son yesterday. 6- I send them to school if it's open. You are making this way more complicated than it needs to be. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/reopening-schools.html
  19. We would reach herd immunity long before that happened... and your math is bad. 1% is only 3.28 million. In all seriousness, do any of you guys personally know someone who has had the virus that has some of the long term effects discussed? I now know more than 20 people who have had it now. It wasn't easy for some of them but all but one say they feel completely normal now. The one that doesn't lost his sense of taste/smell. It has just started to return 4 weeks after being diagnosed. That was his only symptom. I do think it's serious even if it ONLY kills the .3% of people that my math comes up with. It sucks that we as a society are going through this. That said, I think it's crazy to not take all the information into account. This doesn't impact kids the same way it does older adults. Our kids can go to school and play sports. Yes, they may have to quarantine for a while before they go visit family but that beats the heck out of not living their school/college lives for a year or two.
  20. And lots of money. I'm sure no drug companies competing for the miracle cure are going to roll over easily if something else is found to work.
  21. Sounds serious... and very rare or there would be a lot more news covering other cases of it. Give him a couple weeks and revisit it before calling it a long term concern.
  22. All we know is going by the data that is available. We can use Nebraska numbers and even go as far as to use ages 20-34. There have been 8,000 confirmed positive cases in this age bracket to date. If you use the lowest estimated multiplier, we have had at least 40,000 cases in this age bracket. To date, 141 of those people have been hospitalized and 4 of them have died. This gives us a hospitalization rate of .003 and a death rate of .0001. Even if you don't add the multiplier that the vast majority of experts say is accurate, the hospitalization rate is .017 and the death rate is ,0005. For this age class, the numbers indicate there is an extremely low likelihood the above scenario would happen. All of the above is using ages 20-34. It is widely publicized that people in their early 20s fair much better than people even 10 years older. The data suggests we are not placing these kids in a risky situation. College football should be played this fall. https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/ece0db09da4d4ca68252c3967aa1e9dd
  23. I would agree Guy - no easy decisions. I think your scenario, while plausible, is unlikely based on what we think we know right now. I think if we knew your scenario was accurate, we would all agree to postpone/cancel the season. Many of us just don't think that will happen. Time will provide a lot of clarity one way or the other.
