  1. Positive news front, read a research article that said people who recovered are immune and immunity could last for several years. Double good news because the antibodies in the recovered folks could be used to form a vaccine.
  2. If you’re a pt with a fever, increase O2 needs, possible intubation and mechanical ventilation - you’re gonna get tested. If you’re 20, mild fever, no increased work or breathing, you’re gonna get sent home test less.
  3. I’m guess per hospital protocol those people are being testing - were only able to test the worst of the worst - hence the ones on deaths door.
  4. I’m read a research article this morning that estimated they are only testing 10% of infected people at this time. That would bring the fatality rate down significantly, but at the same time, it means it’s everywhere and containment will be all but impossible.
  5. Gotta love when the most butt hurt post on this entire thread calls everyone else butt hurt. Sorry the rest of discussing current events and politics triggers you.
  6. Pt care never stops, wife and I are in the same boat.
  7. It sounds like Cleveland Clinic and Mayo are getting close to rolling out a kit that will provide results in 1 day, CDC drug their feet on allowing them to produce this test. If we allowed them to work on this from day 1 we would be in a much better spot right now.
  8. These people can’t stand to hear things that make them uncomfortable or they disagree with. They live in their bubble with news that they agree with and what comforts them. If something happens that they disagree with it’s a media hoax or not real - because god forbid that bubble pop.
  9. The idiot went on twitter this morning and blamed the CDC and Obama for the lackluster response.
  10. A lesson in why we need to blunt the growth, if we have to triage, elder Americans and those with the worst prognosis will be left to die - vents will be given to those who have the best chance to recover.
  11. That was uncalled for, I apologize. But our president put many, many lives at risk by getting rid of the team that was in place for a crisis such as this, and it’s fine if we want to use our own tests but they aren’t being implemented quick enough and that’s left us completely useless at curbing this. The WHO tests may not be perfect (I haven’t seen the error rate anywhere) but at least they give us chance to mass test instead of playing Russian roulette. No it’s not Trumps fault this pandemic happened, yes it is Trumps fault that America was woefully unprepared for this.
  12. It’s been mishandled from the top down. The Netherlands is testing as many people daily as we’ve tested total and we have 20x the population. Our our healthcare workers are having to go around the CDC to get testing done in some cases. And oh yeah Trump got rid of the pandemic response team. How dense are you?
  13. Your hourly reminder that this dude f#&%ing sucks.
  14. I remember one post from a guy who had quit his job and lost an insane amount of money, asking for advice - the advice was half “throw all your money into Tesla” and half “delete the robinhood app you idiot”. But you’re correct it’s quite entertaining.
  15. PSA to the idiots on twitter complaining about cancellations: You’re selfish a$$h@!es.
  16. The 18-29 group had between 20%-25% turnout from 1974-2012 - it fluctuated up and down but remained in that range. One of best election turnouts for young people was 2018 midterms when 36% of that range voted. You're right when you say its not a new problem - Bernie didn't provide the motivation for that group to go out and vote like many had anticipated.
  17. Yep, blunting the spread is critical for keeping medical resources available, people are gonna have to make sacrifices - which Americans suck at.
  18. It’d be more bad news for the older population - cases will be triaged based on age and health. ICU beds and vents would go to younger people more apt to recover. These things are already being done in Italy.
  19. I’ve said it 1000x in this thread, I’m not downplaying it at all, it’s deadly and will kill many Americans - just want to pass on numbers from the studies I’ve read.
  20. Infected Fatality Rate is expected to be at around 1%, Case fatality rate is currently around 3% - but to get the infected fatality rate they have to factor in the people they think have it, but are showing little to no signs or symptoms. You are 100% right on people over 65, in fact the average age of Covid deaths in Italy is currently 81.4.
  21. If you think Trump has handled this well, then you’re flat wrong. He’s botched this from the beginning and Americans are going to die as a result. And this isn’t political talk, I hate Pete Ricketts, but his messaging and inclusion of UNMC was light years ahead of Trumps reaction.
