  1. I said the same thing to you that you said to me. No need to be so sensitive about it.
  2. Government is, always has been, and always will be filled with corruption. Politicians, by and large, tend to be the last types of individuals that you would want to have immense amounts of power. Isn't that the point?
  3. Perhaps you misunderstand what that even means. Understandable. But unhelpful.
  4. There's some smoke to suggest Trump's taking a page out of the Clinton playbook and funneling money thru Saudi Arabia...
  5. Depends what you mean by right-wing talking point. If you mean that "because right-wingers talk about it, it's not valid to contribute to this discussion" then you'd be the one being intellectually dishonest.
  6. Now THAT (Saudi Arabia) would be the one. This Ukraine "scandal" is nothing compared to what could be going on there.

  8. The only true safeguard against corruption in our own government is to DRASTICALLY reduce the size, scope, authority, and responsibilities of the federal government.
  9. You have to take that in the full context. He's describing that they held up the money because of their concerns about corruption, and the DNC server was one EXAMPLE that he put forth of that corruption...
  10. Correct, except for the part about being in the middle. I suppose it depends on what political spectrum you're referring to. This one is most accurate IMO:
  11. He stated that it was his assumption that the aid was tied... That's not near substantive enough to convict...
  12. Who cares about the meeting. I'll side with @Notre Dame Joe on that specific issue.
  13. Yes, I'm familiar. Sondland testified that he felt the aid was tied to the investigation into Biden/Burisma but no one told him that - it was his assumption...
  14. The question is more the degree to which he offended, and if there is evidence to back it up I'm genuinely interested in how you view the overall tension in the country. On a scale of "Post-WW2" to "The Civil War", how do you view the tension that exists in the political landscape currently, and how big of a "threat" do you view Trump as to the Republic?
  15. After almost 3 years, it's probably 50/50 if I'm being honest. He's been a pretty large disappointment to me for the most part, but he has done a few things that I'd call successes. Perhaps I appear as a staunch defender of Trump because there's nothing but criticism in this forum (some warranted, some not) and I have pushed back on a few things...
  16. This one? I'm most definitely not beholden to any party (or individual) - however it's obvious that everyone who pays attention to politics has their own confirmation bias when looking at the situation. In the specific situation of the Trump Impeachment hearings, it's obvious that most everyone in this thread was convinced that he was guilty before he was even accused of anything. That's a problem...
  17. Who said I did? I support certain policies that he has brought to the forefront, but I will never hitch my wagon to a politician and support everything they do. Instead, I'll criticize where criticism is due and give credit when it's earned as well.
  18. Just catching back up with this thread. Regarding the point about AI taking all the jobs brought up by @knapplc and @B.B. Hemingway I think much of the situation being over-blown. Yang always brings up the point using truckers as an example because it would affect a large amount of people. However, there are many sectors (agriculture being one) that rely on trucking and really wouldn't be able to utilize self-driving trucks. Trucks are required to navigate gravel or even muddy roads with ever-changing obstacles. And it would still require someone to be there to load and unload (livestock, grain, etc). In addition to that, the coding and implementation of AI that's capable of even all-highway travel is a lot further off than it's being sold. Even once the AI is developed, it will still require pretty extensive testing and a "passenger" to make sure the trip goes well. By and large, I don't buy the dystopian idea of there being almost no jobs for people in the future due to AI. There are certain jobs that either a robot could never do, we wouldn't want them to, or it wouldn't make economical sense for them to do. Overall, as we've seen in the past 20+ years with technological advancements, AI might take a large number of jobs, but it will also create jobs that pay better and require more technical skills. I also think we're going to continue to trend more into entertainment industry jobs. Think about how many people are already employed by non-essential entertainment type jobs (Athletes, commentators, concession workers, ushers, sports journalists, etc.), and I see that continuing to expand. This would undoubtedly be one of the major benefits of UBI
  19. Not surprising. This post and the amount of likes it's received are definitely indicative of how extremely far left the viewpoints are in this forum
  20. And funny how when there's a D next to the person's name, excuses are dug up to justify it. You're definitely right - Trump has a complete and total lack of tact, and he's largely ignorant of typical political protocol...
  21. What would you consider withholding foreign aid until a country fires a prosecutor who is investigating a company that employs a VP's son? Edit/add: Are you also aware that many political donations are contingent upon either cabinet appointments or support for certain laws and regulations that will help large corporations to drown out competition?
  22. That would be a phenomenal hire for FSU, but would Franklin even think about leaving PSU? He's built a solid program that's close to competing with Ohio State, and FSU seems to have a ton of leadership issues...
