  1. I thought he could be a coach that won 8, 9 games a year. Post-Riley, that seemed like improvement. I never thought of him as a championship-caliber coach. The Big Ten is a giant step-up from the AAC.
  2. I completely forgot about this. Funny to look back on.
  3. Fickell would leave for Ohio State if it opens up. That’s the only concern I would have. He checks all the boxes, though.
  4. Leipold and Mickey probably aren’t worth $5 mil a year.
  5. It’s settled then. Pay Urban $10 mil a year.
  6. Chadwell has too much similarities to Frost.
  7. Because Mike Riley and Scott Frost were really going to change that. Riley went 5-7 at Oregon State his final year and Frost’s success came in the AAC. Not sure how people could have seen either of those guys as sure upgrades over Bo. With Bo, he was the kind of coach where if there is not anyone that is a definitive upgrade, it is best to keep him. I remember being shocked when Riley was hired and thinking “that’s who they fired Bo for?” Sure enough, Riley only lasted three years. Frosty only got more than three years because he played here in the 90s. That’s always enough to land a job of some kind at NU apparently.
  8. NU has no shot against any team that can run the ball.
  9. Take Illinois to cover. In fact, as long as this coaching staff is in place, bet on all of NU’s opponents to cover if you want to be rich. No more cupcakes left on the schedule.
  10. There are a lot of people on here that seem to think Bo was mediocre for whatever reason. I’d love to have his nine win seasons back.
  11. Is it not true that Bo’s resume was infinitely better than Mickey’s? I don’t understand all of the Bo hate on here. He didn’t exactly inherit a great program like Solich did, but he still found a way to win consistently. In his first few years with Carl as DC, the defenses were pretty solid, too. That was after Callahan completely fried NU’s defensive culture. If anyone wants to talk about underachieving like they did with Bo, they should talk about Solich. Anyone could have won with the program Solich inherited from Osborne. And yet he found a way to deliver one of the darkest days in NU history with 62-36. Not to mention he got completely destroyed by Miami in the next game. That was two games in a row on national television that NU looked like an FCS team. He was the most overrated NU coach ever.
  12. Even if you’re not a fan of Bo, it is absurd to compare him with Mickey in terms of qualifications. Bo had at least proven that he could coach defense at a high level. He was the DC at NU, OU, and LSU before getting hired as NU’s HC. Mickey’s resume isn’t anything like that.
  13. The way I see it is that he could end up being either Solich or Frost. I’m not sure NU is in a position where they can afford to roll the dice on another hire.
  14. Bo was the DC for a national championship-winning team. Mickey hasn’t even called plays before. Apples to oranges comparison.
  15. I wouldn’t be surprised if the deal with the next guy is already done.
  16. With the Big Ten adding the two LA teams, the conference will only get stronger. NU can’t afford to screw this hire up.
  17. After 20 years of failed experiment hires, it surprises me anyone would want MJ as HC. It’s just way too much of a risk to give him that kind of responsibility with such limited experience. Nothing in these four games with him as interim has been overly impressive. NU beat two teams they were supposed to beat and lost to two teams they weren’t supposed to beat. Seems pretty average to me. Had he beat Oklahoma or Purdue, a different discussion could be taking place. I don’t even think this will be a conversation by the end of the season, though. From what I’ve seen, NU will be lucky to win another game. I can’t imagine even the die-hard Mickey fans would want him with a 2-7 record. Now, if he can be kept as an assistant, I think that would be a big win for NU.
  18. As HC, like a lot of people on here are suggesting. That’s what I was originally referring to. He’s obviously a good position coach, but him at HC is a terrible hire in my opinion. No other power 5 program would even consider him for their HC position.
  19. Would Mickey’s resume get him hired at any other power 5 program?
  20. I think it would have been announced by now if it was going to happen.
  21. I miss Purdue being an easy game like it was with Bo. I certainly would hate to go back to those “mediocre” days.
  22. Bo went 2-0 against Purdue and beat Oklahoma when they came to Lincoln, unlike Mickey.
  23. Indiana and Rutgers wouldn’t reach a bowl playing in the MAC. Nothing about those wins were quality. If anything, it felt like downing multiple margaritas in one sitting. It feels great, but it’s absolutely nothing to brag about.
