  1. Deion and Shedeur talking about not liking Nebraska...fools you've been at Colorado for like 7 months, what are you talking about? lmao But regarding Rhule's comments...he's right. Think about one place Deion has gone football-wise and hasn't had success. That's not random. He was an all-time player and he appears to be an excellent coach. He's doing things his way and we're doing things our way. There is no single path to success. The narratives on this game are wild. It should be an entertaining watch on Saturday.
  2. All that I'll say about putting stock into Week 1 results is this... In 2016, preseason #10 Notre Dame went into Austin to face an unranked Texas. You know the game? It's the famous "Texas is BACK!" game which Joe Tessitore boldly proclaimed after Texas scored a TD in 2OT to win, 50-47. Texas surged to #11 the following week. Notre Dame finished the year 4-8. Texas finished that year 5-7. Neither team made a bowl. Ironically, Nebraska did make a bowl that year. The point is...our expectations for how a season will go is way too influenced by the results of the first game. Right now, it is equally likely that both TCU and Colorado aren't great than it is that TCU and Colorado are both great. We just don't know until we have more information. That said, Colorado is definitely more talented than they were last year and the year before. They have great talent at the skill positions: Sanders, Edwards, Hunter, Horn. But I am not convinced by either line. And I'm not convinced they will hold up in a physical game, if we are able to bring that to them. We cannot allow the game to become a track meet.
  3. Win the toss. Take the ball. Don't give it up the entire game.
  4. All I know is that if we try to pass more than 15 times (unless absolutely necessary) I will commit sudoku. I think we are more physical than CU on both lines, so offensively, pound the ball, work the clock, limit how much that offense will be on the field.
  5. Right, but winning losing is irrelevant to what I'm talking about. Like if you have experience officiating a team who is disciplined, how much does that impact what you see the next time you officiate that team?
  6. Thanks - was missing some conversation about our maligned Huskers.
  7. It's always been something I've wondered about, because after all, refs are human, but I wonder how much a bias about a team affects how officials see things on the field. Like I think Minnesota has this reputation of being a disciplined team. And so, when it comes to things that might be questionable, how much does that affect a refs decision to throw a flag. No there's not a grand conspiracy against Nebraska, but human decision making is flawed.
  8. Hey gang! Been a long time since I was on HuskerBoard. Lost my password to my previous account (It'sNotaFakeID), so I'm back here on a new account. Anyways - I've had a hard time shaking the feeling that Rhule's first game was just a lower scoring version of Frost's first game against Colorado. A lot to be excited about but at the end the plays weren't made and the end result was a 1-score loss. That being said, I was encouraged by how the defense played. It seemed the front filled lanes, got pressure. Aside from Hartzog, the coverage was pretty solid and I thought Omar Brown had a great game. Special teams was a big improvement. Alvano was 1/1 on XPs and 1/1 on FGs and the kicks actually looked like they should. Each of Buschini's punts ended up inside the 20, punt and kickoff coverage were solid, and we had a big return. The offense is the unit that concerns me most after last night. That said, Simms is a solid runner. I thought the line started to wear on Minnesota as the game went on, which opened up some big opportunities for the run game. We need to find some speed at receiver as no one really got any separation last night. And ultimately, Simms needs to go through his progression, even if that progression is just to a secondary target. On every one of his 19 attempts he was starting down is primary option and it cost them dearly. He missed the TE on the goal line before the half, instead throwing a back-breaking INT. He moved the safety to his where he threw it on the interception late in the 4th quarter. I think if he can get to a secondary option, he will be at least 3x more dangerous.
