  1. amazing, this guy sits behind Carriker for 2 years with his head up his arse and has just got around to learning the techniques for playing DE? OMG! in fairness to Potter, he made remarks last week in LJS hinting that Carriker didn't always have the best fundamentals: Plus, “I think in a way I might be more sound in my alignments and techniques because I think Adam, he could cheat a little more or get away with certain things because he was so strong, such a physical player.”
  2. it might be easier to laugh at if i didn't feel we were in a similar situation. Doc is from Arkansas, and the more time that goes by one has to wonder how desperate the hogs are getting. i believe Doc when he has said he's committed to NU in the past, but i don't think Arky has made a serious run at him yet. I think he'd be genuinely as conflicted as Huggins was about leaving, but not sure that his ultimate decision would be all that different.
  3. http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/10108684 Huggins mulls leaving K-State for West Virginia April 4, 2007 By Gary Parrish CBS SportsLine.com Senior Writer Tell Gary your opinion! An impromptu rally on campus designed to raise support to help Kansas State keep Bob Huggins was canceled Wednesday night amid speculation the West Virginia graduate could be close to returning to his alma mater after one season with the Wildcats. Advertisement A source close to the situation told CBS SportsLine.com over the weekend that if John Beilein left for Michigan, then Huggins would be West Virginia's top target. Now, according to another source, Huggins is seriously considering the opportunity, but he's struggling with whether to pursue his desire of returning to the Big East at the expense of walking away from a Kansas State roster full of elite-level talents who would've never considered attending KSU if not for Huggins luring them to a remote part of the country far away from their homes. Most notably, that list includes Bill Walker and Michael Beasley. Both could've gone anywhere in the nation, but each picked Kansas State -- hardly a traditional basketball power, at least in recent years -- based solely on Huggins or hires Huggins made upon accepting the KSU job a little more than a year ago. According to a source, the ideal situation for Huggins would've been for the West Virginia job to open after next season, that way he could've exited Kansas State at the same time Walker and Beasley presumably turned pro. In other words, a move to West Virginia would've been a no-brainer for Huggins after the 2007-08 season, but under these circumstances, at this point, he's genuinely torn. If Huggins leaves the trickle-down effect could be interesting. Walker, a rising sophomore, is probably stuck at KSU regardless because transferring would force the 6-foot-6 wing to miss all of next season before regaining his eligibility -- meaning that's a senseless move considering Walker will likely enter the 2008 NBA Draft. But if Huggins left Kansas State, Beasley would almost certainly ask for his release from a national letter of intent, and if it was granted, the incoming freshman would be free to reopen his recruitment or perhaps even follow Huggins to West Virginia if KSU didn't object. Attempts Wednesday to reach Huggins were unsuccessful. Huggins led Kansas State to the NIT this past season. The Wildcats finished 23-12 overall. Prior to KSU, Huggins compiled a 399-127 record in 16 seasons at Cincinnati before resigning under pressure in August 2005. The forced resignation came a year after a highly publicized DUI arrest.
  4. i thought Cal had some of the worst facilities in the pac10? or am i thinking of Stanford? not making any judgements of the guy, but Cal is a rather competitive academic enviornment. most who go to a place like Cal do so because academics is a high priority, while everything this kid says is about being a QB. i just wonder if he is aware of what he would be getting himself into in this regard, and the 2.8 GPA makes me wonder more. Can't blame him if he is, Cal is a good school.
  5. true, freshmen linemen do need physical development, i guess my real point is how much damn switching of positions can we do before it has a negative impact on the development of the players? good effects, sure knowing more than one position helps in time of injury and to keep the best athlete on the field, but this never ending experiment of moving guys around, even from the offensive side to the defensive side of the ball, just seems to shout confusion in a loud voice. i can't remember any former coach here at NU that played more choruses of "musical chairs" than Cally. it seems futile and makes little sense, as if he doesn't really know where to play his guys?? i've gotten similar feeling of deck chairs on the titanic on this as well. i gave the benefit of the doubt over to lack of depth. Was hoping to see it settle down more this year... but then we lost Huff and Patrick
  6. those are nice for some info, but i doubt they ever tackle something like this subject though. any comment from the organization would be more along the lines of StuckinChicago's. any comment from a writer would be a sentence or two of facts and a page of opinions... not much better than a message board imo. That's basically what blogs are anyway. i too take what i read with a grain of salt, unless i can find info to back it up. That's why i was asking.
  7. i think it's good to talk about history. it gives us a point of reference for judging the present, those who don't learn are doomed to repeat, etc. I'm guessing you'd probably even agree with this. But right now you seem to be emotional and tired about the subject. i can understand being that if you've talked this out several times before. However, i'm neither of those things and am just asking a question of anyone knows. i was born and raised outside of NE and about the only way i can ever find out about this stuff is to ask around.
  8. Coach Osborne is careful to no interject himself into NU athletics (especially football) TO has made remarks in the past about how he would've been willing to "mediate" the situation between SP and FS. Maybe he doesn't want to be too involved in NU athletics, but i also think that part of the reason is that no one from the athletic department has expressed interest in his help. If it were all up to him, i don't think he'd be completely hands off.
  9. i've heard a rumor, and was hoping maybe some here could confirm/deny or straighten out what i've heard. Supposedly, Byrne wanted to do a national search for a replacement. When TO got wind of this he threatened to "unretire" if Solich wasn't named HC. For some reasons, this would be a sort of egg on the face to Byrne and black eye for the university, so he relented to TO's wishes. However, Byrne didn't really trust Solich so as part of the deal he insisted that Solich keep the staff the way it was and really prevented FS from creating his own coaching staff.
  10. that's the impression i've gotten all along as well. Even though a lot of the recruits played RB in hs, only Castille was planned on doing the same for us. all the others were expected to move else where.
  11. When you say "our" do you mean the Huskers or your highschool team? My highschool and pretty much everyone that we played was lucky to have one or two guys that big on the line. At 6-2, i was the tallest D lineman we had. And i wasn't that light at 200 lbs compared to the other guys. The huskers of course would be a different story
  12. feel the same way as gamecocks, but... not notice a kid that's 6'5" and 290 lbs? that a hs line unlike any i've ever heard of
  13. lives in Chicago, isn't really looking to stay in the Big10... but NE is too far away? Confusing statements... if NU is too far away, what's left outside the big10? ND?
  14. They should fire someone in the PR department, too. This is horrible damage control at best and leads to this sort of speculation. They should have made a formal announcement immediately to keep the sort of speculation that we're seeing from growing legs. a poster on another board suggested that. at the time i disagreed, but after reading here... "we don't know anything about it, but everything is perfectly fine" I don't know what happened, I am curious, but at this point all explanations are about equally plausible. i can completely agree with that. and to keep my curiosity to myself
  15. As you pointed out my reading comprehension is poor so your reply made zero sense to me................... it defintely seems to be lost on you
  16. Sense when does being a fan entitle you as the fan to know the details of a players personal life???? Reading comprehension MCAT.... i never said i felt entitled to know anything. In fact i said it's Marlon's choice and if he doesn't want to come out with it, that's fine. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't potentially problems and I am concerned that, if so, such problems aren't over. But i don't really want to get into that... just saying i'm a little worried we havn't heard the end of this, but here's hoping for the best. Ask yourself this, if Marlon was just a student at NU would you be so deeply concerned as you are now about this kids personal well-being???????? i'd be concerned for anyone that ended up in critical condition in the hospital. If he was just another student, then my concern wouldn't also be mixed to my love of my football team. Also you stated more than once how you want to honor his privacy then why don't you and bug dope leave well enough alone.................... maybe you should take a look in the mirror. It's a two way street you are on and Bug isn't in here having a conversation with himself. Saying that everything is fine and the right things are being done is speculating too. Just because those speculations are positive doesn't give them anymore merit or make them any better than speculaitons the other way. That's what i'm trying to point out... although apparently saying anything other than life is fine and wonderful is grounds for assault around here. and please don't lump me in with Bug. i'm pretty sure he got some sort of agenda against BC. I'm more saying that if we are going to shut up about it, which i think we should, then both sides have to shut up.
  17. "On the next 'Beyond the Glory'" lol. i admit i might of gone a little overboard... but i'm getting sick of people saying "we don't know anything, so just shut up with the bad vibes" but at the same time saying "everything is going well". it's contradictory
  18. All I can say is when someone has worked for you for 20 years, you gotta give them a reason why they are fired. secondly to fire someone that close to Lucky's mishap is questionable because he will forever be linked to that, even though anyone with an ounce of understanding knows that a trainer does not prescribe drugs. This is another example of Smiley Jones aka Stevie P running the AD without integrity. I work for a large Div 1 public institution and I can tell you, if the AD or coach did that to a long tenured employee, they would be fired and sued because its against university guidelines. But in this case Beau Bridges and Smiley can do whatever they please since Harvey P is holding court over NU stupid question time: Isn't Doak a long tenured employee of the university? Are you saying we should be expecting a law suit over this? Or are you saying it's against your Universities guidlines?
  19. I think the way things are be handled now about keeping it private and letting Marlon get back to his everyday life is a way better approach than going public with what happened and have the media blow this whole thing way out of proportion. i've been pretty quiet on this subject, but i want to comment about how so many people think it's better for this to be kept quiet than going public with it... How the hell do you know that's it the best way to handle the situation? Nobody even knows what exactly the situation is. The only real question is wether or not you trust the people that are privy to the information to handle it correctly. Don't confuse a "yes" to that question to being a "yes" to another. The things that we do know are that Lucky suddenly ended up in the hospital in critical condition when there were no known health issues that should've put him there. Most common rumors that it was an OD. No matter how it happened, it's unnverving, but since that rumor was so consistent i think it's worth exploring. There's lots of reasons kids end up in the hospital with an OD, and it's not uncommon for some of the reasons to be a really big warning sign and cry for attention. Everyone being so tight lipped about it gives me the impression that they are basically trying to pretend it never happened, which is definitely not the way you want to handle somebody crying out for help. I realize this is Lucky's situation and i respect his choice to keep it private. Hopefully it will all work out, because worst case scenario is that we've got a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Also, i doubt they will be able to keep this a secret forever. Sooner or later someone's going to find out and word will spread. Personally, i think it's better to deal with the situation head on and get it over with. But Lucky probably knows how to handle this better than I, so if he's not ready now that's fine. But make no mistake, sooner or later he'll have to answer some tough questions about this. I hope he's ready when the time comes, otherwise a big mess is just being delayed. Once again, i respect Lucky's choice to privacy. However, i'm more than a little nervous that we havn't heard the end of this. I do have a lot of faith in the people involved to do the right thing, but that doesn't mean that i know for a fact that everything is being handled properly.
  20. i'm thinkin about going to that game. can get flight and hotel pretty cheap. Do you kow if the games are very easy to get into their? i was kinda worried about the overall size of there stadium and size of the visitor's section.
  21. HaHa. I'm your worst nightmare, a professional biologist. May i ask whom you work for and what exactly you do?
  22. absolutely, we will have one of the toughest in the country maybe. going off how those teams were this year, it looks that way. Never know how teams will change one year to the next though. Wake could fall back to their more "traditional" level, Colt may not recover and leave UT very vulnerable... there's just a lot of "if"s out there right now. This past seasons schedule didn't look so daunting, but ended up having 4 top 10 teams on it. Similarly, this one could end up being easier than first thought.
  23. the doctors are only evaluating his physical condition. How exactly this OD happened and what is going on in his head are other questions that are just as important to wether or not he plays again.
  24. the way i understood it is, you always need an whole new liver. Once it's gone bad, there's nothing that can be done to save it, only buy time till it completely shuts down. Conversely, the donor always gives only a portion of their liver. The reason this works is that the liver is the only organ in the body that regenerates itself. The idea is the two pieces grow back whole inside the two individuals, which is a major reason why recover takes so long in these cases.
