  1. Once again, it seems to me that Callahan is lacking crediblity. Because of his silence, I sense a lack of character. He should be upfront and outspoken on everything if he was confident in Purify's character. I think he is literaly pinning the crediblity of Nebraska football on the outcome of a court hearing in hopes a supposed super star player will come save the day. Something warns me of another rain cloud hovering over our heads if he stays. It will forever be known and passed along that Purify was given special consideration merely because of his "athlete status" at the U of N. Is that what we want? Is that what we need? Is that all it takes to be deserving and worthy of a University of Nebraska scholarship? That's quite sad actually. Is our remote situation cultivating the troubled waters or is it merely a misguided Athletic Director and/or Coach? I prefer to think the latter.
  2. Police reports generally support whatever action the cops choose to take. For example, there could have been a dozen witnesses there that saw the bouncer take aggressive action against Purify but sense the bouncer wasn't arrested the cops would never put the other witnesses in the report. Fine and probation, plus one missed game. Purify will be back for WF. The guy didn't strike Mo. He tried unsuccessfully to get Mo off of him. Mo was on top of this guy and choking him when the girl intervened and he then struck her. Thats why he wasn't arrested. He was attacked and never hit Mo according to witnesses which police put in the report. The police did take witness information. Now had Mo left after they kicked him out of the bar after the fight... we might not of heard anything about this. But nooooo he hangs aroung trying to get back in, once trying to scale the beer garden fence (there's your tresspassing charge) so the bar calls the police in. Takes 4 cops to handcuff him. Sounds like more than a 1 game suspension to me. He did more than LP did and LP missed most of the season. Lets see... legally drunk. Disburbing the peace (dunno if he was charged this but he cussed out anyone and everyone around that night), assaults not 1 but 2 ppl, refuses to leave, resists arrest. LP just pushed his ex against wall and dragged her down the stairs by her hair. He might have a couple witnesses in his corner but versus how many for the county including police? This isn't like he threw a plastic cup this time... If Callahan doesn't rid our team of these bad actors when they rear their ugly head it will be more proof that we are living in a time warp in slow motion as the rest of college football passes us by.
  3. Here are two people that understand the situation and have it correctly assessed. Husker Football Alumni have been and always will be the back bone to this program. It takes those notables to keep the flow of top notch recruits coming in. We don't have the luxury of beaches and warm weather year round to entice the nations best to come here, so it takes every option we can use. Having a past superstar or TO on the sidelines speaking favorably about the program and NU goes a long way in encouraging parents of a 5 star in Texas to consider Nebraska. It takes those recognizable faces of that tradition to keep 'em coming. Without them on the sidelines, we don't have that immediate picture of our tradition for the rest of America to see. I'd hate to think that our current staffs unwillingness to embrace the past could cost us future recruits. If the same demeanor continues, it could very well be that the coaching staff that follows Callahan will most suredly have a deeper hole to drag our program out of. Btw, people who throw around the F-Bomb all the time usually do so because of a lack of integrity. They feel obsessed to do it because of their frustration within their lacking ability to convince people with what they believe.
  4. I think this is the second year in a row that OU's spring game has been a live broadcast on ESPN. Be that as it may, even though far short of what our adversary down south is doing, I'm still happy we have a little something to gain from, even though it's a delayed broadcast on some obscure network. Bottom line is, I believe we are falling behind with our current leadership. Maybe I'm just upset because of the continual "greener pastures on the other side of the fence" syndrome. Even though this is something good for Nebraska football, fewer youngsters will be watching on a Saturday evening than they would be on Saturday afternoon during a LIVE broadcast. I realize this arena is a new phenom but ESPN continues this trend with a second visit to Norman. I believe OU's leadership is doing something ours is not and to boot, they boasted a good turnout and viewership of good numbers, even though it was a bad weather day. A few questions... What university payed positions are responsible for promoting such things? The coach, athletic director, school president, all three and/or others? How does this show as a measuring stick with our current leadership? Are they doing everything they can? Is it merely because OU has been to a BCS bowl 5 of the last 8 years? Are we still that far behind in respect, coming up short, or is it simply indicative of our football programs status? What kind of crowd do we gather on a Saturday in April? Is the average age less than 60? It doesn't seem to be during the games in the fall, so maybe when it's cheap and without seniority status in the spring, more youngsters will be on hand. Maybe we should change things at "old" Memorial during the fall season like this Saturdays "spring game" where the "future" has some stake in the program. These are just some thoughts on how it seems to me we're not stacking up, yet again. It's all about recruiting the youngsters, and we don't seem to be filling the bill as we did in the past. Just as a personal observation about the last 10 years, I think we seem to be on the middle teet within the rest of the competition.
  5. Callahan is in the top three merely because he is the coach for one of the "top three" Big 12 Football programs. It's the program that puts him there. Nothing more.
  6. Most notably, The University of Nebraska!
  7. No kidding. Just let it go. Why go back AFTER the fact for a SECOND phonecall with his mom no less? Geeeez, don't give the fodder! Btw, isn't it a bit hypocritical of us, being condescending to what seems to be a non-confrontational Sooner, of which we most always have high regards, when we ourselves are obsessed with them? Case in point, this recent and long standing thread on this huskerboard. http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15170 Face it, we are a "house divided" folks.
  8. Callahans character. We were lucky to get Shields. Had Switzer still been around, he'd a been a Sooner. They were going through rough times there which got us over the hump. That was the reason he fled. Yeah good ole Switzer! I'm sorry I don't have a photo of Lawrance Phillips beating the crap out of his girlfriend and then dragging her by her hair down the stairs. maybe you can find it at the Lincoln PD. archives. Oh, lets not go here. I love the days of TO but can't stand the fact that BS owned him.
  9. Callahans character. We were lucky to get Shields. Had Switzer still been around, he'd a been a Sooner. They were going through rough times there which got us over the hump. That was the reason he fled.
  10. I told ya' it was discerning news out west. Is the glass half full or half empty? Apparently, this sight is a perfect illustration of the current situation, concerning "Husker Nation" and its football program.
  11. Hey SoonerOLB. What's your take on our current coach's character? Remembering his reference a few years back about Oklahoman's with guns and all, ("hillbillys" or something of the such is what he said) his throat slash in another setting, and of course his inaction against the player that could only take out his frustration against your cheerleader, does he even make a difference in the whole scenario? Within your fanbase, in your opinion, does this dampen the glory days and wishes of renewing this great rivalry? For the life of me, I can't stand thinking that we only have K-State, Missouri, or dare I say the Buffs! Btw, thanks for your input. I remember those days and how good they were for the real "Big Red". (The one up north ) We thrived thanks to you guys. You always raised the bar.
  12. Good words, Junior. The seperation does exist and it worries me a bit. I think the older generation is concerned about character. We give them the benefit of the doubt on that but sometimes their actions speak differently. They most likely have it but it hides behind things like "throat slashing", "zipped lip" and "untouchable security" measures, it all has us on edge. We understand things are going to be different than Dr. Tom, but it doesn't necessarily have to be, especially to this extent. I keep going back to the thread within this sight of people that yearn for the NU / OU annual rivalry to come back. Callahan understood "notta" on the wonderful history of that series and proved it with his actions to those fine people. I don't believe we really had hope for that anyway as they have their rival and it never was us, but we sure don't have a chance at renewing such a magnanimous game like that now. I'm afraid, as well as others, that BC is burning alot of bridges that could haunt us after he's gone. I believe that will happen. If an NFL team comes calling, he'll be gone so quick that the phone call will come from the airplane on his way there. Soul searching during periods of subpar NU seasons(anything less than 12 wins), will always happen. Maybe this discussion is good for Husker Nation.
  13. i for one agree totally. i love the program and the kids and always will as a faithful alumni, BUT Pedersen has, for all the good he has done (jury still out on alot of it too, i might add), is not someone i can get behind or admire or even trust. Now you can say that is not important if you want, but by gawd to many of us it is! There is alot of secrecy surrounding alot of what goes on now with the team and personnel and you can bet that is exactly by design per Pud. Callahan has got free reign to go over and above what most coaches have for decision making and his "pro attitude" sure doesn't fit what we have come to recognize in the past. Sure, we can't go back, we can't live in the past, but i am not too damn sure i like what i see in the future either. Just my opinion, don't expect to argue about it, but this whole "administration" hasn't felt right since it began. You young fellas pay attention to the above posts. Seems once again, 50% of us aren't sticking our head in the sand. "Throat Slash" situations and all, seem to be stiff armed "under the rug". The older gen is concerned about something. Tells me they are paying more attention to the details. This encourages me that all is not lost.
  14. I noticed a thread about reviving the NU/OU rivalry here awhile back. Isn't a chance with this current bunch at the helm. Nebraska Football of old, is gone. Sad, but that's the way it is. Carry on.
  15. With all the recently graduated players taking up for Doak, I wonder why the University wasn't a bit more forthcoming. I'm not sure BC, has enough lids to go around. Sand. {50% Inserts Head}
