  1. People around us would get someones ticket stub, take it to the people you wanted in, then have them walk in. When I was there the people would simply look at the stadium nothing else. Sometimes early enough they dont even have anyone watching once you are in the stadium. Ahhh I see- so I walk out with two ticket stubs, hand an east ticket stub to my buddy, then we both go into east stadium- brilliant! All we have to do is just get there early so that we don't end up stuck under the balcony. Curse me for begrudgingly getting old enough to actually consider complaining to the Cops whenever the hot girls next door have a party 'till 4AM (And really really bad Karioke). But.. What happens to the person with the rightful ticket to that seat? (I hate myself for even asking). (Now I'll hafta start practicing my yells) "DOWN IN FRONT!!!" Well, the idea would be that we would sit in student seating which is informally first come first serve. Obviously if there were somehow ever a conflict with the rightful owner to the seat asking for it back, we would move- no questions asked. I've got a right to be in east stadium anyway- it would only be my friend who wanted to sit with our group of buddies. It wouldn't have been an issue if they wouldn't have eliminated block seating.

  3. A friend of mine couldn't get his hands on an east stadium season ticket and got stuck with one in south stadium. As most people know, however, student seating is informally first come, first serve. So if he got there early is there any way that anyone knows of that he could make his way from south stadium to east stadium? That is, without making a dangerous leap over the barrier of course. I've always had east stadium tickets, so I've never really explored around very much. Anyone know a way to get to east stadium?
  4. The starting QB is the single most important player on any team, so I'd be include to choose Ganz with the first pick. However, I don't know what Lee and Witt have looked like. If I had seen them play and I deemed them to be superior or equal to Ganz I would choose Marlon Lucky.
  5. I dunno- I empathize with Ganz. Principally with what he said about the recruiting business and what that can do to players. I think Callahan put too much faith in the recruiting services and I'm sure that Ganz resented that, which is perfectly understandable. I know that if I were a quarterback who was busting my hump to get playing time, I would really come to hate that two star rating if my coach put any stock in it. I would constantly be wondering who that clown was who gave me a two star rating and why he gave it to me. I would especially resent the two star rating after seeing marginal quarterbacks like Sam Keller or really terrible quarterbacks like Harrison Beck start over me- mostly because of hype. Sure Ganz is no Tom Brady, but I can understand how he could resent the notion that he will always be a backup two star quarterback. That label would be really irritating. I would probably be bitching too.
  6. Shoot- I better get there early to make sure I can get in on my student ID. All the free tickets are capped at 10k! Arriving at the stadium at 11:30 changes my pregame plans a bit. It temps me to smuggle certain prohibited libations into the stadium.
  7. He was coaching to win. You probably wouldn't be complaining if Shanle hadn't dropped a football right on his numbers. If you fake punt from your own 20 in the second quarter you are NOT coaching to win. You are coaching like an idiot. Auburn could barely move the ball on us! We gave them their first two scoring drives and they only had to go like 40 yards for the two of them combined. On top of that, if you're resting the fate of your team on Shanle you're in bad shape anyway. That play was beautiful and set up perfectly, but p*** poor execution caused it not to work. I think it was Todd who missed his block, otherwise Shanle could still be running on that play. One block away from at minimum a 30-40 yard gain. You can't go hindsight on alot of that stuff though. Look at Texas in '06. Nunn holds onto the football and we win. Some will argue we should have ran for those 2 yards, but Cally set up a perfect play and had it work. Just p*** poor execution again. Now some of that goes back to him, but on gameday you can only put these kids in position to make plays and have them do the rest. Quite a few times when he got criticized, it was just as much the kids not being able to make plays when they were in the position to. Hey- I'm not criticizing his decision to throw to Nunn against Texas. That was a pretty good call and he didn't take any unnecessary risks. That situation was totally different than the fake punt. The fake punt was such an awful call because it was so high risk/low reward. If it works, we get a first down. Ok, that's fine, but the game was really even, we weren't even close to field goal range, and it was only the second quarter. If it doesn't work (which it didn't) then we give Auburn's sub-par offense a golden opportunity to score by giving them the ball at their 25 yard line. It was just totally unnecessary- a bad call. I understand that player execution is a factor, but that is omnipresent and barely worth mentioning. This was a call that was very high risk with a low reward. It's like if you wagered a thousand dollars on the flip of a coin and if you got it wrong you lose everything, and if you get it right you get twenty bucks. It's a bad idea even if it does work.

  9. Glenn is a team player and I hope he totally blows up at linebacker. I would love to see that kid bring the wood. He loves contact, so he already has that going for him. Maybe we'll get to see what he can do at the spring game? Man I can't wait until April 19th so that I can pretend that it's football season again.
  10. Mostly just two areas- 1. Player academic performance 2. Recruiting I'm not convinced his playcalling was any better than Solich. True, you couldn't always predict the call like you could with Solich, but at least you would know that Solich would NOT do a fake punt from his own 20 to ensure that we lose the Cotton Bowl.
  11. I just don't like the tunnel walk coming out of the north stadium. The tunnel walk was much more fiery coming out of the south stadium. I also didn't like that jumping out of the plane video sequence, nor anything else that drowns out the tunnel walk music. Any tunnel walks that don't have the aforementioned elements were awesome.
  12. I say we'll go 10-3. The same record that Solich had when he left- the same record that Callahan could never match. The key difference is that in coming years we will get better under Pelini.
  13. I put after the end of the third season. The play calling in the Auburn game combined with questionable personnel moves earlier in the season just broke me. I remember after we lost the Cotton Bowl I didn't feel devastated like I usually do after a Husker loss and I knew something was wrong. I had come to expect letdowns in big games. That was the end of my faith in Bill.
  14. Spring practice is such a tease though. It's wonderful to be able to talk about and observe tangible football play again, but when it ends on April 19th all it does is make you more anxious to get to the regular season. It's like giving a single drop of water to a man dying of thirst- it's just cruel. It will be of particular interest to see who seems to be establishing themselves as starters at LB, WR, and in the secondary. It's a crying shame that Dr. Tom put a halt to any "Spring game played at night" talk. Man I would have loved that- yeah it goes against the drug free pledge and family atmosphere of the typical spring game, but still. It would have created a grand illusion of an actual game for die hard fans like myself, plus it would have opened up a lot of new pre-game (party) options.
  15. I think Lucky struggled the first two years because NU had a really crappy O-line. Nobody with an O-line that crappy could perform well. Zac Taylor should have won the heisman just for his ability to pull himself off the turf 30 times a game. Every time he did anything more than a 3 step drop, he got rocked. Shoot, sometimes he got rocked on 3 step drops too. Lucky had to make moves and really make an effort just to get to the line of scrimmage. Lucky also has been growing as a player since he came here. He now has more power and he is a better pass blocker than when he first arrived. I think he'll have a huge year in 2008 (read my sig) but the potential loss of Andy Christensen is huge. Hopefully that doesn't tank the O-line this year.
  16. If Pelini "cuts his teeth" the same way Bob Stoops did at OU, I have no problem with it. As for option 4, (keeping Callahan) I will just pretend like that option is not there. I like to pretend like the entire Callahan era never existed. Sweet- we still have our bowl streak and KU hasn't beat us in decades. Rock.
  17. Tha'ts friggin laughable. The only way some people would say Lucky wasn't a bust is if he would have won two Heisman's by now. The guy doesn't belong in the same topic where people are talking about Mickey Joseph and DeAngelo Evans. Gimme a break. I totally agree with Dave here- Marlon Lucky did everything we could have possibly asked him to last year. 1800+ combined receiving/rushing yards is a bust? You cannot seriously mention him in this discussion. Why not just say Tommie Frazier was a bust? A five star quarterback? He should have given us AT LEAST three NCs. I can't believe we only got two out of him.
  18. That is simply untrue. The money generated by the football program pays for most of the athletic department as well as many academic programs. We are one of only a handful of football programs that actually generate positive income for the university. Most college football programs are lucky to come close to breaking even. I totally agree that college football is all about the money though. Fans and players are rarely factored into decisions of this kind. I don't really know what can be done about this. It seems a little defeatist to just throw up our hands and say "that's the way it is" but well... that's the way it is. Unless I have millions of dollars sitting around, I don't see how I would get anyone's attention. You have to admit it's a sour deal when a guy gets moved from seats he's had for 50 years, even if he does get to keep his seats somewhere else. Over 50 years he could have grown accustomed to them and had close friends sitting nearby. It seems a bit callous to shrug and chalk it up to change. Sure change is inevitable, but it always brings winners and losers. This man was a loser in this change. You've gotta feel at least a little bit sad for him.
  19. He's one helluva red zone receiver- I'd love to see him go to my 49ers. Then again, they had a lot of trouble getting within 40 yards of the red zone last year. The 07' offense was epically awful. Who knows if Alex Smith could get the ball to him.
  20. The only advantage college basketball has over college football is that it is not run by complete nincompoops. (i.e. let's not have a playoff, let's destroy the NU/OU rivalry, let's keep wildly irrelevant bowls for teams that don't even have winning records because we get more money, etc. etc.) Even in spite of all that rubbish, football- no question.
  21. Watson has already said it's Ganz's job to lose. I agree that I haven't been all that floored by Ganz's throws, but he's got Div. I starting experience and that's worth something. Supposedly Lee is more mobile (before breaking his leg anyway) and Witt has a better arm, but I think those will be questions for next year. This year we will have Ganz at the helm unless he's seriuosly injured. Another selling point for Ganz is that he is wildly popular with both fans and players. The team respects him and that is something that should be considered too.
  22. A bunch of kids, mostly over the age of 21, drinking beer at a house party? That's hardly even newsworthy. We've really only had one incident.
  23. Honestly I don't see this as a big deal at all. Disorderly house? A few MIPs? They had a party that got a little too loud. So what? I've been to parties like that when I was that age and I'm sure most of you have too. This is a total non-issue. Anything more than a slap on the wrist would be overzealous. Sexual assault? Very serious. Drinking at your place with your football buddies, most of whom are over 21? Not serious. Of course they shouldn't have done it or perhaps been more careful, but it's just not a big deal. Too bad it might hurt Nicks and Purify on draft day anyway.
  24. As a student ticket holder, I received this email from the athletic department. The new seating arrangement isn't as terrible as the DN made it out to be. Dear Cornhusker Students, First and foremost, thank you for supporting our football team. As we await the start of spring football, I hope this finds you well and looking forward to the April 19 Spring Game. As promised, we have been searching for a solution to the problems occurring in sections 12, 13, 14 and 15 in the South Stadium as well as overcrowding in the East Stadium. As you are well aware as a student season ticket holder in 2007, we have had increased conflict between our students, season ticket holders, security and event staff members. Concerns have escalated over the past few years and have caused unsafe situations for students and season ticket holders. With assistance from ASUN, who submitted two new seating options to the Athletic Department and to the Fan Behavior Group last fall, the Athletic Department has approved the implementation of Option 1 (general admission seating, preference for upperclassmen in the East and elimination of block seating) for the 2008 football season with one addition—student seating will extend to the top of the South Stadium, just as it currently does in the East Stadium. In return for your movement, UNL student ticket holders of the future will receive additional student tickets in the total allotment; preferences for juniors and seniors and potentially some sophomores in the preferred East Stadium; general admission seating in both the East and South Stadiums which will reward those who come early and more accurately reflect the current seating practices; and a guarantee of no increase in student ticket prices over the next four years (2008-2011). We hope you will support this solution. The Athletic Department will begin the process of relocating season ticket holders out of the upper sections of 12, 13 and 14. The student seating will now extend to the top of sections 12, 13 and 14 and will no longer be located in section 15. While I know there are concerns that students are losing lower seats in parts of section 14, I feel compelled to alert you that regardless of where the student section begins in Section 14, the lowest rows of this section will continue to be reserved for non-traditional students, student-athletes and Husker recruits on official visits. Therefore, the general student body is not losing these closest-to-the-field seats in those sections. While block seating that previously occurred during signup will no longer be in effect (per ASUN Option #1), those students who come together can sit together, much like the current practice. The Athletic Department will provide wristbands for those students with preferred seating in the East Stadium, to protect students from overcrowding. Those who prefer to sit with underclassmen may still do so in the South Stadium by indicating that preference upon signup. I can assure you that moving students up in the South Stadium will not produce a financial windfall for the Athletic Department. Fans who are moved to lower sections will not be required to pay more. Also, the higher one sits, the better the view of the entire playing field. I sit high in the North Stadium and see the game much better than those in the lower rows. In April, we will have season ticket signup by class status, with seniors allowed to sign up first and to pick their seating preference (April 7-9), followed by juniors (April 10-12), sophomores (April 13-15) and freshmen (April 16 and beyond). We are confident the preferential opportunity for upperclassmen to sit in the East Stadium (who with the previous lottery system may never have received that chance), the increase in the total allotment of student tickets, decreased conflict with security, event staff and season ticket holders and the guarantee of no price increase through 2011 will meet with your approval. We appreciate the leaders of ASUN, who over the past few years have provided their time and expertise in solving these difficult issues that have been prevalent for decades. We appreciate your continued support of the Cornhusker Football Program and Nebraska Athletics. When you pick up your tickets in the fall, you will be given a new Husker T-shirt, commemorating the beginning of a new era in Husker Football. And just so you know, we've been listening and there's a definite possibility that the T-shirt will not be red. We hope you'll enjoy wearing it to the first game. You are valuable members of our team. Tom Osborne
  25. Read my above posts- I think this is a matter of context. Some people don't want to or physically cannot stand the whole game? That's perfectly understandable- they already have 80% of the stadium. The students at NU already have the worst seats in the Big XII. Do you really need to make them worse? When you buy tickets, you know where they are and what those sections are like. I couldn't expect to stand and scream the whole time if I was in north stadium just the same as I shouldn't expect to sit down very much if I bought tickets right behind the student section.
