  1. I don't think he was tiding the fence. He days, "It starts there (with the D)." The diff. in the Rose Bowl WAS the defense. Texas had the better one. Look at Nu in '94, 95, and 97. All tough defenses. Florida in '96. Miami in 2001. OSU in 2002. LSU in 2003. LSU SMOTHERED OU.. with defense. SC did the same in'04.
  2. The blame might be split 50/50 here, or slightly heavier toward Ms. B-B. HB should've been more serious. He should have had a "team" attitude. His Mom... When a spouse/parent dies, many times teaching accoutnability can go out the window - mostly as an over compensation. Especially when the father dies. I get that. It's not altogether right, but I get it. In contrast, consider the character of Brooke Berringer. Similar situation. Some differences. Maybe HB was sorry and realized he screwed up. I get that, too. But his Mom said stuff she really shouldn't have. an over-emotional reaction.
  3. yes, I heard that Callahan say he was. Also Beck's HS coach mentioned that HB talked to BC on Monday. That call was probably conferenced in the coach's office. Beck's coach said, "He (Beck) handled it pretty well."
  4. Ross takes on Ray Lewis... From the Baltimore Sun: BIGGEST HIT • It's debatable whether linebacker Ray Lewis has lost a step, but he can still tackle. Lewis hit rookie running back Cory Ross so hard during an 11-on-11 exercise that Ross' helmet popped off. Afterward, Lewis and Ross engaged in a little good-natured talking.
  5. My bad... sorry. Forgive me. Then, LA Tech better have th eO-line to protect their QB!
  6. I seem to remember sometime between the Kansas game and the Alamo Bowl, some LA Tech people were running some smack. Looking at their sched. last year, they won 8, lost 4 - no loss was to a "bad" team. Kansas beat them, but the difference was closer than in our game. I think all their losses were to bowl teams. They DID beat Fresno St., but it was the week after Fresno St. pushed USC to the brink. Fresno St. was probably out of gas (see NU vs Mizzou in '78). I think this program is a notch or two behind schools like Central Fla, UAB, and Nevada. They may make a bowl this year or next. Our D should be able to handle their option. I think we have the speed at LB, plus the strength up front to dominate the LOS, and we should bust up their angles. Plus, a lot of the option is timing, and it's always a little rusty early on. Their D may hold us under 10 for a quarter- quarter and ahalf. They may break one or two long ones on us, but hopefully that will came late vs. teh subs. I do see us establishing the run first. Smash-mouthing them on their heels then nailing them with Nunn, Swift, Herian, and co. We may go into half leading 14-7 or so, then just come out in the second half and punish them.
  7. There's a media link to a profile on Koch. It played slow on using Firefox at home.
  8. Thanks! I did see that on another board. Maybe he switches back? Prolly not though...
  9. Beck's history and the bottom line is a negative - probably cancerous - attitude is gone. The team will rally around ZT- and even Gansz and Davis (where IS Jordan Adams???). If you caught the WOWT 10 pm newscast last night, ZT was trying hard to be gracious, and he was for the most part. He said something like, "He's a young guy, you know... Freshman () have it tough sometimes.... Things don't always go your way. We'll just move forward." The look of determination on his face was amazing...! It's all good, people. GBR!
  10. That is laughable. Seriously. Have you been reading anything about what has transpired in the last few days? You are going to say Beck is in the right? Sheesh. No, it looks more like a BC trashing. BC handled this perfectly. Can't be blamed for recruiting Beck. Live 'n learn. BC will probably be better at picking out the losers in teh future. Saying all this is a bad choice by BC is like trashing TO for SB and LP.
  11. From BaltimoreRavens.com: --Practice ended on an intense note, as Billick called for a third-and-one scenario that would end the session. "The whole practice comes down to this one play!" he yelled. As both sides of the ball were cheering and pumping each other up, the offense called for Cory Ross to a left-side run. Good blocking from left tackle Rob Droege, left guard Chris Chester and center Jason Brown got the tough yardage. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/articl...le.jsp?id=11215
  12. Yeah, pretty much. His character was revealed during this little bout of adveristy. If he fell behind, he needed to kick it up a notch or two, and didn't. Another facet - he was told, "Miami/FLA/FSU 'want' you - we NEED you" during recruiting. Then he was asked about Taylor, which he probably thought wouldn't be a big deal. So, he probably thought he going to be the man. Maybe even moreso when he sustained the drive vs KSU. He got a little more serious for fall camp this year - but it wasn't instantly rewarded. Then got huffy. Bottom line, he should've gone to the coaches first. It's a maturity thing. But the truly great players have that.
  13. Sipple vehemently states Beck's mom did NOT ask to be off the record. I'll believe that until proven otherwise. She is silent about it, so there's probably truth in that. So, no, he doesn't get any blame, unless it comes to light that it was indeed supposed to be off the record - but I doubt that will happen. I think it played out this way- LJS gets to her first. Step-dad hears what she says, and says, "Don't say things like that to a reporter." OW-H gets her next, and she wants some comments to be off the record.
  14. What about Jordan Adams? Didn't he have potential way back when before he got ill?
  15. I don't like comparing teams, but I think people may be surprised that we have just as much if not more depth than the 94 Defense. We may not have the star power across the field to match up with that defense but the depth I think we can match.
  16. Numero, you're right. I think one mandate could be if you're undefeated, you're in. At most, there would probably be only two undef. teams. I couldn't imagine 3, but I spose it's possible. I think of Tulane coached by Terry Bowden with Shaun King at qb. They went 11-0, but were in a non-BCS conf. Still, this wanna-be teams from the Mountain West or the MAC, or the NCC ( ) need to schedule more elite programs and WIN occassionally.
  17. I know it's getting a little saturated with the USDA "Beef, It's What's For Dinner" Buttsteak Bowl, the Ron Popiel Pocket Fisherman Big Mouth Bass Bowl, and the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl, etc. But the market shakes itself out. NU played in the Astro Blue Bonnet Bowl after the '76 season in Houston. Thank goodness that one doesn't exist anymore.
  18. I'm bummed Bowman is gone this year... but remember- we lost Mike Minter for 98% of '94... and still won a NC. And in '07, Bowman will be like coach on the field. Or at leats he should be, because he'll know the playbook even better.
  19. Kid, I concur with 4 teams. The NC picture is always about THREE teams usually anyway. It's never about 8 or 16. Everyone knows who the top 2 or 3 teams are by the bowl season. Add teh 4th in the BCS. The champ. game becomes teh top BCS game, and you could even have a "consolation game," as th 2nd BCS game. The first round become independent of the bowls. You can't get rid of the bowls. First, they are set up as business entities, most with full-time, year round staffs.
  20. He is only 18. You can't just tell him to go, and boot him off. I've read John Wooden's book "My Personal Best," and he warns against such rash judgement calls. However, HB probaby needs to apologize to ZT (and the whole team) in front of the team, even though it was his Mom who said those commetns. Fro those comments, one can only surmise HB has been a bit coddled. HB needs to realize he's got to work hard. During fall camp, the depth chart chagnes quite a bit- moreso than during the regular season.
  21. Unlike most people here, I like Rome. I don't watch his show on TV because I'm at work, but he's funny, and is quite knowledeable. When he does interviews, notice how many athletes/coaches say, "You're absolutely right." About the Jim Everett thing, he realizes he was wrong. He's had an open invitation for Everett to come on his shows. He apologized, and said it was his worst career move. He said it was something he shouldn't have done.
  22. I will. I can usually crank out 300 or so words after every game. I can probably promise regular post-game commentary. Maybe some pre-game on some games.
