  1. I think he is the most likely candidate to defect, but who knows. Last year, I thought for sure Kenny Wilson would go elsewhere and that Ashlee Palmer was solid and it ended up far from that. Getting off topic here a bit but Ashlee was solid. He signed his LOI and was coming here. A snafu with grades made that loi null and void. He still wanted N but he would need another class so he went with Washington because of their quarter system. He thought he'd be able to still get in before summer. He knew that his chance of playing the first year for Nebraska was small since he would miss spring ball. Then on top of him wanting to play first year and Washington on the quarter system his mommy wanted him close to home. In the end it didn't matter because he needed more classes than he thought he needed and that is why he is available again this year. Nebraska coaches decided they have their targets from this class and aren't going to play around with a guy who seemed so wishy-washy. That is why he is headed, I think, to Miss St. Back to Ross.... I think he's N (maybe replace "think" with "hope")
  2. One that might bolt would be Ross. I doubt it though. I think all 23 sign. Perhaps one surprise commit. Moses Jenkins?
  3. I thought we have backed off a little to see how much of a team player he is. Rumor has it, at one of his basketball games he came down with a case of poor attitude. Like I said that is just a rumor.
  4. He hasn't, yet. ISU is in a crunch they need warm bodies so they will take a chance on a guy that might or might not qualify. Nebraska is not hurting that bad and can pick and choose. If you do not look like you are going to qualify then we will look elsewhere. I don't know how close Davis and Washington are, but they are closer than Franklin. I read earlier in the year that Washington had the ACT and grade combination that he needed to get in. However, if his gpa drops a tenth then his ACT is not high enough. I don't know Davis' situation but it seems to be a small concern. In the end I think Franklin has trouble qualifying and quite frankly we have better things to worry about than getting a JuCo receiver qualified. It might take him until August to qualify and by that time Curenski Gilleylen will have already been studying and will prove more useful than Franklin's two years of eligibility.
  5. He's got great size and ability. It would be nice to get him. The problem I see is that he wants to be an immediate starter and that won't happen at Nebraska imo. If Lincoln doesn't impress him more than Ames then we suck.
  6. I thought it was going to be broke all day
  7. I think that someone you are referring to is Patin. I can't remember off the top of my head but it was one of two scenarios: 1. He expressed in not so many words that he wouldn't be leaving the south -or- 2. His grades are not quite there yet. I think it was #2 why we backed off. We're pretty much done with our class unless Peters wants N.
  8. I think we may be getting a committement from Gilleylan very soon. Also they might be holding one spot for Stephenson, Peters or Patin. Farmer was plan B for Gilleylan imo.
  9. I don't think we need one either but, this staff has been after that one, fast WR for some time now. For whatever reason they think they really need this. I don't think saving a spot for Patin does us much good, he is not coming here imo. We are not taking anymore OL's this year so we don't need to save any spots for that (it has been said that we only wanted two OL's and we got them from AZ, plus we just got a walk-on and on top of that we already have two for next year). The only position I would like to see a commitment from is DL. Davis may not qualify, Townsend will have a tough time qualifying, and after losing our entire DL we need to get some depth there quick. Wish list: No one else decommit Peters (SEC bound) Cole (wants to play WR we want him for DB, probably won't come here because of that) Perry (probably will stick with Thug U commitment) One of the WR's (the guy who just visited or this guy). Patin And we're pretty much done.
  10. Yes raising the ticket prices helps but just like the city of Lincoln, you can only nickel and dime a person so much before they call you a communist. I am not drunk posting (DP) yet...let's call this buzzed posting (BZ). The Nebraska womens volleyball team don't look the greatest in the face (that's what I've been told) but I don't think I have ever seen any of their faces, the butts looks soooo good. Thanks for the correction on the Pro Beach Volleyball. Now, let's get to it.... is leading to but it's all good
  11. First, I want to say I am against the idea (see my above post). Now, I would like to know where all this money that we are going to pay all of these little Terrell Owens' is going to be coming from. Do you think that there is so much money left in the universities budgets that they can just start handing money out? If there was all kinds of spare money just laying around, then don't you think NU would not have had to suffer through an $80million cut? Does anyone remember these vertical cuts that the chancellor had to make back in 2003? I know for a fact that NU has attracted some quality math students due to a hiring of a great mind in algebra. I believe he defected from Purdue to come here because his wife wanted to study some disipline that N offered but Purdue did not. With great young students coming to Nebraska that means more research is done here and more notarity and more money from the people who graduate from here because they are now rich etc etc.... Now let's back up here and instead of cutting $80mil let's cut $100 mil so the players can get "theirs." Here comes a vertical cut to the math department (it really doesn't matter what dept gets cut because there is someone on this board that believes that dept x should not be cut for any reason). NU loses credibility in that dept. With the cross-discipline of academics, we attract less quality for the CS dept (again doesn't matter what dept) and then our computer program goes to pot. The cycle continues until the university is a laughing stock. Oh wait, the money we are going to be paying these Eli Mannings does not come from the general fund so we wouldn't be cutting any academics, right? OK so where is this huge stockpile of money sitting? Oh it is being spent on supporting other sports. Since the other sports operate in the red they should be dropped. News flash there are only two sports at dear ol' Nebraska U that operate in the black. One is football the other is women's volleyball. So then should the volleyball players get paid? So there's the great idea, we'll cut Nebraska to a two sport school. BRILLIANT! (picture Guiness beer commercial, that's how I said it) Oh no you say, I am taking this way too far we only want to pay them just a little bit. Maybe that can come out of the pocket of the coaches. BRILIANT! Any coach worth a crap goes to the NFL. BC is not getting paid that much from the university as far as I remember. I thought his contract was for over a million or two but most of that came from TV and radio. I thought that what he actually got from Nebraska was $300k. I could be wrong on that though (feel free to correct me on this). OK so let's not take it from the coaches, let's take it from Harvey himself. Bad idea, hopefully you see why if not go back to school as I am getting tired of typing. Back to the original problem where is the money coming from? Well if you don't give them that much it wouldn't be hard to find it somewhere right? They do get a monthly stipend. They do get paid for living expenses. I don't know how much they get now but when was the last time you saw any of those football players wearing rags? Oh well that is only because they get free clothes from Adidas so that doesn't count right? So let me get this straight: They get free clothes a place to stay monthly stipend food free tuition, learning from the finest faculty Nebraska can buy free one on one tutors the greatest (up for debate, granted) coaching to further their future free travel trips to bowl games hot chicks life long bonds the college life (remember many of these people would not experience this if it weren't for their game) and this is still not enough? Just think we could have had Reggie Smith playing for us if we would have just paid him enough.....LAME. One of the reasons I watch college sports is because it is about the game. Players play because they love the game. It is true for any college sport. Pro Basketball sucks because it's all about me. I'm gonna get mines. I deserve this, look at me, it's all bi-ness, look at my bling. LAME Pro football there is no loyalty just who's gonna pay me. I want mines. Show me the money. Gimme gimme gimme. Pro womens sand volleyball......... now that's just hot! I'm done now. I'm going to pour myself a nice, big, tall glass of Captain and get drunk. If I happen to post again tonight, I apologize in advance for drunk posting. I'll try to refrain.
  12. Are you sure about that? Technically he is not an underclassman as he was a senior this year but still has a year of eligiblity left. I don't know the draft rules on situations like this, so you might be right. He is an underclassman because he has 1 year of eligibility left. It was the same situation with Michael Bush from Louisville, he is a senior with a year left but had to declare (which he did) by last Monday. Bowman is staying! Obviously it could change, if he decides he wants in the league then he can opt for the supplemental draft but there is very little (none) chance of that happening. Watch for Bowman to be starting next year and a first round pick in 2008 (if he stays healthy).
  13. I agree they start the first game YOU ARE ON , I BETTER LOSE SOME WEIGHT JUST IN CASE I LOSE AND HAVE TO WEAR SOME SORT OF FEMINIE ATTIRE
  14. My bet was based on the starting line-up on the first day of the season.
  15. Your on landon. This might be the safest bet I've made since, well, forever.
  16. Whoa there! Let's not get carried away. Marlon Lucky - we snatched him from Pete Carroll and Carroll always gets who he is after Harrison Beck - kept him from visor boy Spurrier Suh - Picked him out of UW, OSU, OU, and WSU country Dillard - From OK but got him here Turner - Snatched out of Tenn Lee - Awesome looking qb and chose over OK and OK has no QB's he'd have to compete to get top spot. Barrett - Tough haul out of FL Brooks - Stole from MO I'm not saying Peters wouldn't be a huge get but to say this is the greatest get of the Cally era is a stretch to say the least at this point.
  17. I wanted to let this topic die but it looks as if it won't <sigh>. They are paid right now. How greedy does one have to be. Most are getting out of state tuition paid for them at a university of their choice. They also get a monthly living stipend to do nothing other than keep grades up and play football. If you don't like that the college players aren't paid like the NFL players then boycott ncaa. I'm sure they couldn't care less. I think everyone has seen the commercials that say something like ncaa athletes, most are going pro in something other than sports. So really ncaa is providing life long lessons and education to get them through the rest of their life. Quit whining about the poor college student!
  18. Depth is why you recruit them. They will also push the starters to be better. A football team is usually made of more than just starters. Keller did not start this year but imo he still made an impact on the team. He played well as a scout team quarterback and that is worth something. If you think Murillo will come and start then you must not be a history guy. Bowman wouldn't have started his first year if we hadn't lost some key secondary players and Solich didn't leave us with a 1 deep depth chart. Jones would not have started his first year if Bowman didn't jack himself up. Murillo will not start because all three corners are better than him and, more importantly, have experience at the D1 level. Asante might start but I look for Culbert to start over him.
  19. I hope he shows he loves Nebraska. He says all the right things but to me it seems like he went to John Blake University. He came with Blake and left with Blake. I hope I am wrong on this. To his credit he said he will finish his degree and he will come to Nebraska for it (again saying the right stuff, actions speak louder than words).
  20. This doesn't happen to BC more than most, you just follow BC more than most so you hear about this more than most.
  21. It's official (on huskers.com) He's gone. Make us proud BJax.
  22. That list is only the early entries. I didn't list the seniors coming out. The argument for staying a year is: You only need one good year. If you have a breakout year you go in the first round. McFadden would be a first round pick if he was old enough this year because he had one good year. AP has had one good year. Vince Young moved to number 3 because of one good game. BJax could make his status go through the roof if he can prove that he is better than the three we have and have a 1000 yard season with a few in the air as well. They don't take people in the draft due to how they played their college career. They take them based on their last season (sometimes their last game) and their workouts. I wish he'd stay to challenge KW but Lucky might fill in there.
  23. This is what I was referring to: "I agree that they need a spark. However I think their spark is going to come from a 6'6" 260 guy that can run a 4.55, throw the ball 70 yards on the run and enjoys beating the hell out of Notre Dame." Troy Smith is second round material on a very good day. Adrian Peterson is made out of glass so he is not first pick material. The Raiders need a Coach in the worst way and after that it has got to be a franchise QB. They passed last year on Leinhart because they didn't have a coach in place and Al Davis probably didn't realize that he was still on the board. Expect Jamarcus to go first and if that doesn't happen it is Brady Quinn. What all of Raider Nation is hoping for though, is a trade down. Kind of like San Diego with Vick, Brees and LDT.
  24. The quarterback that was hinted about a couple replies up was JaMarcus Russell from LSU. He is a Vince Young type big boy that can take a hit and win. I don't think Troy Smith is anywhere near the size mentioned.
  25. RB's coming out this year (early): Dwayne Wright Fresno State Chris Henry Arizona Danny Ware Georgia Marshawn Lynch California Michael Bush Louisville Darius Walker Notre Dame Antonio Pittman Ohio State Adrian Peterson Oklahoma I wouldn't exactly say that this is a weak class. No matter what class you enter the NFL in there will be stiff competition. If anyone's only reason for wanting to leave is that they think they are better than this years class than next years... well it sounds to like the ol' afraid of competition argument. If you think you are good enough to come out early then come out early. If you think you should come out early because there are better players than you next year then your a putz. I am sure (ok, I hope) that BJax is not basing his decision on that.
