  1. No question USC has far superior talent than the Huskers but the tackling was very alarming to me. There were times when a play could have been made but we have are head down, we are standing vertical (instead of knees bent, and pads square to the oppenents number and ready to get horizontal and lay the hit). Again, you know damn good and well that Coz and Company teach these things but why do our LB's and some of our DB's continue to do the samething over and over again is beyond me. And yes our Def. Line got blown up last night but the LB's had a chance to make it a 4-7 yard run and then do just what I talked about and there goes SoCal for another 10-15 yards. The D-Line is young and unproven and will develop (God I hope) but our LB's our SUPPOSED to be the veteran group that can make plays and a certain couple players (#13 and #51) can't do it. Octavian, Brandenburgh, and Dillard do make mistakes also but they seem to be the players that make a play that we need also. Those three also bring a more physical presence and speed to the defensive unit.
  2. When USC defenders tackle, we went down immediatley! If we managed to breakdown and make the hit, the SoCal RB's always went for another 2-3 yards after contact. Very bad!
  3. ....are lacking severely! I posted this on another thead but are defenders are very bad at simply breaking down and wrapping, especially McKeon. Everytime, not just sometimes, everytime he is one on one with a RB he stands straight up and lunges. All it takes by a RB is a simple fake and #13 looks really bad. Also, Ruud is the "softest" LB that has earned a Blackshirt in along time. He's a jersey "grabber", afraid of the collision. I hate to bash on our players and coaches because I know the hard work and time they have been putting in, but if we want to play at a high level, then it is apparent to me that some changes need to be done. Phillip and Lance must play!! They are better tacklers, bring more speed, and are much more physical LB's. This will not correct everything but it's a place to start. Please let me know if I'm wrong on this or do you see the samething. Thanks.
  4. As much as I hate to say it but McKeon and Ruud are below average linebackers. We have high school players here that have much better technique than Cory. He NEVER breaks down and wraps....NEVER! He stands straight up and looks like a fool when the RB gives a simple fake. As for Ruud, the "softest" LB we have had here in a long time. He's a jersey "grabber"! Doesn't seem like he wants any part of the hit or collision. I'm sorry, I hate to bash our players but Phiillip and Lance must step in for these two seniors. They just don't have what it takes to play at a high level, which is where we want to go, right? Now, if were happy with beating Wake by 3 and beating up on lesser opponents, then continue with Ruud and McKeon. Please let me know if I'm wrong on this or if you see the samething. Again, being a coach myself, I hate to bash on players or feel like I know more than the staff when all we see is the game on Saturday and they are around these guys 7 days a week but it's apparent to me that these two players are not the players you see on the top teams around.
  5. Maybe this is over ny head but what was with the Gary Busey mug shot poster? Wife and I laughed because it just stood out and made us say....what? Anyway, the crowd was great and we are really looking forward to getting back for another game (we have tickets to the Okie St. game in October). HUSKER POWER!
  6. Thanks Sooner man! Along with others on this post, I have great respect for the Sooner Football Program. In fact, back in the day, I pulled for the Sooners every week except for that last week of November. God I miss those days! Your Sooners look very tough this year with speed everywhere on the field. Good luck today versus the Aggies of Utah St. and hope to see you in San Antonio in December.
  7. Hey, I'm just 25 miles south of you getting ready for our Husker Party. We were goin to Victory's Sports Bar and cheer with the Kansas Cornhusker Club (it's a good time if you ever get the chance) but we decided to host our own watch party. Heading up for Oklahoma St. game in October. Cheer loud. HUSKER POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Everyone in our household has their Husker gear on, flag is out, Husker magnets on the truck, getting ready to go get supplies (beer, wings, chili, beer, beer, and more beer). Wife keeps telling me to sit down and relax, but this is not going to happen. God I'm pumped!!! Gooooooo Biiiiiiiig Reeeeed.........GO BIG RED!
  9. Thanks for the info! I'll be on the road most of the morning so I'll tune it in.
  10. We showed up at Victory's for the Troy game last year about 2 hours before kickoff and were told we would have to wait for a table/booth to open. One did after about a 15 minute wait but I was freaking out there for awhile. Pretty neat scene when you get about 2 blocks from Victory's. You can see big Nebraska flags waving in the wind and just about every car/van has their car flags/magnets etc. It's a beautiful sight!!!
  11. No question, it's Victory's Sports Bar. We go there several times a year to watch the Big Red. It's packed, everybody wearing red, cheering loud, and drinking their favorite beverage. Just a great atmosphere. Our family is hosting a Husker party for the USC game so we will not make it that night but we will be at Victory's for the Ball St. game. Oh, you also have your choice of games to watch (little TV's at each booth) or they have two big screens and 27" screens all over the place. When the Huskers take the field, all screens go the Nebraska game and they crank up the volume over the entire bar and grill so you can hear everything. It's great!
  12. Done! Let's go Husker Nation - Do it...vote!
  13. That crossed my mind also. It's way to obvious that he absolutley hates the Huskers. Never does he have a good thing to say about the team or coaches. Sad.
  14. Why does everyone (media included) want to see us "down" or keep saying "you'll never be back"? I guess you have to use the word "down" because the Huskers have been so dominate but compared to other schools and the years of struggle, we have not been "down" that long or bad. Since the 2000 season, we are 60-29! The years, everyone keeps talking about 2004-2006, the Huskers are still 22-15. Not Nebraska standards, but a lot teams would take that. This, putting in a new offensive and defensive system! I have total respect for these team I about to mention. They are Div I powerhouses. But people forget about this. Oklahoma from 1992 to 1999 went 44-48-3. That's 8 years! Penn St. went 26-33 from 2000-2004. The beloved Trojans from USC went 71-58-2 from 1991-2001. That's 11 years of pretty above average football. Anyway, I just laugh at ESPN or other schools fans on message boards that keep saying were still "down". I'm telling you, the 9 to 12 win seasons are here again.
  15. Took the words right out of mouth Captian Obvious. Hawks beat us for the first time in 35 years and he's talkin crap. Please, don't turn into a K-State Football Fan, PLEASE! All the KU fans that I know are level headed about their program. We all know about the KSU Kitty Cat fans. Jesus, honestly there are some in this area that don't grasp how bad Kansas St. was and really think that their program is right up there with USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio St., Nebraska, etc. I also did not say I was an "expert" on KU Football as you mentioned. I pay attention a little because I really do pull for the Hawks, except for one weekend in the fall. Go Big Red!
  16. I didn't mean to disrespect Jake Sharpe. He was a hell of a RB for Salina Central that is a burner. I was talking more about his height/weight, not skill level. Like you said, can he take the pounding every Saturday for 12-14 weeks. I'm just having a hard time seeing him running into Suh, Steinkuhler, Barfield, Turner, Octavian, Dillard, Ruud, etc, etc. We'll see.
  17. I live way down south on the Oklahoma/Kansas state line, so as you can imagine I'm in Sooner Country. I've talked to some guys that have drove down and watched some practices and they are saying (along with the coaches on the OU staff) that this 2007 defense Oklahoma has is by far the fastest, nastiest, and hardest hitting defense Stoops has had! All they need is a QB that can manage the game and they will be fine. So, with that said I believe the Sooners will capture the South again and meet the Huskers again for the title. I think Cally has the talent in place to win this thing THIS YEAR. As far as Kansas - No way! Again, down here in Kansas I read up on them and they are not as talented as the past couple years. There is a possibilty of starting this Salina, KS kid at RB. He's pretty fast but, my goodness he's only 5'10 and weighs 185 lbs. Also, the QB name escapes me but I saw a picture of him in the Wichita Eagle yesterday and honestly he's 5'10 and 185 lbs that Mangino says is "athletic and is improving as a thrower". Not good. The sports talk radio shows were also talking about the QB's size and how the talent seems to be down. So this ESPN dude picking the Jayhawks is an absolute joke! It's Huskers and Sooners........again.
