  1. Has anyone posted yet on this? I've listened to a lot of Husker football games online and there are times when the web audio goes down briefly during a break and you can hear faint background noise...usually the band. There are also times when they run commercials and you can still hear audio from the broadcast booth. Today there was a point during second half where commercials were being played but you could still hear Rose in the booth! Sounded like he was on the phone or talking to a producer but he was basically saying how the defense couldn't stop anything, they have been on the field too long, essentially commenting how poor the defensive play was...couldn't believe this was going out over the air...I was in the HuskerBoard chat room today and many of us caught what was happening. Anyone else hear this (did it go out over radio or just the internet audio?). It was getting to a point where I was cringing thinking man, he is close to going over the edge here with some of his comments (i.e. he would not comment so strongly during the regular broadcast or if he knew he could be heard). Interesting to say the least.
  2. Has committed to LSU. Can't help but think...if we do end up hiring Pelini I wonder if any defensive recruits from LSU or ones he is contact with now would follow? Our situation may ultimately end up impacting other teams recruits as well. I expect a waiting game from recruits (as in will Cally be here? if not, who will be here? will Pelini even be at LSU?).
  3. No surprise that recruits would second-guess but the main thing is there is no way we are going to bring in a coach of less caliber than Cally. There will be an up-grade, no doubt. So from that perspective I think recruits will wait to see who the new coach is. Heck, if it is Pelini I would think a defensive recruit would have to be jacked up about that. With TO as the interim AD we are in good hands and sure this will be a top priority to keep this class together.
  4. My 2 cents and I am just speculating. I gotta believe when the move was finally made to go for a change, it was a no brainer that the first reaction was that Coz must go. I am somewhat surprised that this did not occur with a rally cry to try to fix the defense and get fans back on board. But, it appears there was just too much to overcome in regards to belief that Cally had the offense in good enough shape to play for Big 12 titles let alone all the marbles. So when you sit down and think it through, you realize that to make a change you needed to purge Pud first. I tend to also think that it is not certain but likely that Cally, Coz, and Elmo already know they are not coming back. So, what does this mean for the remainder of the season? What if they rip off a bunch of wins and turn this thing around? I'll never say never...but that scenario could save Cally. Who knows? Maybe now he'll just try to do whatever he can to 1) either save his job or 2) show other teams (NFL or college) that he is still good...I think it will be interesting to see if he coaches differently under this situation...my guess is he will be less conservative (which will probably be a good thing). He now has to shine to show he is still viable head coaching material or at least as an OC back in the NFL. Then again, his wallet is fat and he could just ride this puppy out and take some time off...heck I could even see him in the broadcast booth next couple of years. I don't wish ill will on anyone. But, now that we have gone ahead with the change I hope the new AD can bring it all together. I tend to think that we will look back at Cally as our Ron Zook and maybe more. He brought new ideas to the offense and got a pipeline of recruits. There are things to build on there. In the end, he may have been alright for this role in this transition...but I think most everyone agreed he was just not the guy to take us back to the very top. A very interesting time in Huskerland. I think Cally would be more liked if Pud was not so divisive in what he did here. But, Cally's attachment to Pud is likely his shortcoming. Lots of speculation on other threads...I think we may see Cally just a couple of more Saturdays or until the end of the season. My guess is he has been told that he has respect and he will not be required to be embarrassed by having to cut off his assitants one by one (that is why Coz is still here) but rather when Cally goes the ones who have taken heat will all go with him (I am sort of interested on who would be asked to stay on). Barring some miracles, I think this is Cally's last season. Bizarre...a month and a half ago I would have never guessed this for this season. It is VITAL that our next hire knows exactly what he is getting into...and more importantly wants to get into it because he is driven by this very type of challenge. I remember when Jim Tressel got hired at Ohio State and he just came out and said that the team would be good and they would beat Michigan, etc. We need a confident leader. The problem we had is that Pud was the one to run his mouth off first and then Cally was found later as one of his last choices...Cally was sort of doomed from the start and in over his head as his boss the AD was setting him up for failure...and now it has finally snowballed into this mess. In the end, winning and a return to competitiveness and pride in the program will cure this and all will be well for everyone involved. GBR
  5. I just saved a ton of money by switching to Geico!
  6. Chris Peterson should definitely be in the mix and is my number 1 target at this time. He just strikes me as the next Urban Meyer. I think he could turn our talent into results. My only issue is I have no idea who he would want at D-Coordinator and that right now is just as important as head coach. I would look at Muschamp. Not sold on Kelly...lots of one year wonders in the Big East these days. I'd also look at Patterson from TCU. I also say Pelini because Pud would be gone or this discussion is moot. If TO does become AD (which I would love to see because it wil reunite Husker Nation), then I think Gill will get a good look. The next coach must be a great motivator who embraces Husker traditions and draws strength from the history of the program. If they do not fit that team first mold, then they need to be excluded from consideration.
  7. Link to article on Thompson: http://media.www.dailynebraskan.com/media/...g-3023046.shtml I think Thompson should be a good addition. We are building back a strong O-Line...would still like TR to become part of the tradition.
  8. Latest... last month: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/678885.html this month: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/689199.html Okie State seems to have slight edge.
  9. Woods will undergo back surgery on Monday and will likely miss the rest of his high school season. Hope all goes well and get well soon, D.J.!
  10. Now has offer from Notre Dame. This one is getting crowded. Also likes Oregon, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee.
  11. I'd like to see Octo line up on the edge and pass rush more. Just have him do one job...kill the QB. I like Brandenburgh...he is probably our best tackler. I still want to see more out of Dillard...hopefully he gets better from the experience and can be an anchor for future years. Bowman is one of my favorite players...but I have to admit, other than the INT vs. Wake he has not shown up this year. Who knows...maybe the injury is keeping him down but he has been disappointing IMO. Hope he can get better as we need him to play like he is capable. All these guys should see playing time and I would go with the hot hand as the game progresses. I think that is why Brandenburgh is starting...he has capitalized on his opportunities when he has been in there.
  12. Was at the Missouri game on Saturday...and now has committed to Missouri.
  13. It's definitely the entire defense. Teams putting huge points and yards on us, no ability to stop opponent on third down, not able to pressure the QB, the atrocious missed tackles, opponents' ability to dominate us with big plays, the secondary's poor technique defending the pass, a complete meltdown on defense. You have no idea how badly I want the Blackshirts to succeed and just thrash OSU. Hope they can use being called out by everyone as motivation to kick some ass!
  14. Prayers go out to D.J. and his family that he pulls through this. He is one of my favorite recruits...just get the sense he is going to be a special player for us.
  15. We need him to visit...we need another top notch WR in this class.
  16. I like this Guy (yes, pun intended). Sure he knows we need massive help at D-Line...give us a look!
  17. Ugh...say it ain't so. C'mon Simi...come in with Justin and play with your motor going at 110% and help restore the Blackshirts...you will be loved as Husker legends!
  18. Sorry to hear this...hope he makes a speedy and full recovery.
  19. Good choice...welcome, Riley!
  20. I'll say the offense is getting there. We had Zac Taylor as Big 12 Offensive Player Of The Year. I thought BJax jumped into NFL a year early...he and Lucky could have been a great tandem this year. Keller is NFL bound. WR's need some work but Mo has shined at times. I like some of the new players on offense like Castille and Paul. We have great recruits on offense with Gabbert, Gray, Woods, and the O-Line recruits. On defense, while getting some better recruits I have not seen the high caliber of recruit...lots of Juco's...may start to get better with some of the LB's we have coming in for '08. Play has translated on field as follows...Callahan has used the offensive players he's brought in with some success...I give offense a B. On other hand, we have not seen the same with play on the field from the defense...and I give it a F...so I'll start with the defense and say that is where the problem lies. Don't think cleaning entire house at this time is going to necessarily be the solution. Again, this is so frustrating because I think many of us know we have shown ability to play amongst the best at times on offense (not there yet but getting there)...the problem is our defense is in complete and utter meltdown mode...and I don't think anyone realized how bad we were on the defensive side of the ball.
  21. OSU and A&M = win one, lose one at Texas = loss at Kansas = ugly loss K-State = win at Colorado = loss 2-4 the rest of the way to finish 6-6
