  1. We need to be pushing hard to recruit Demens. We need this guy on our defense! Hope he is N after all is said and done.
  2. Hey, I think Bo Pelini is a darn good D-coordinator but this same Bo Pelini was co-D-Coordinator for the OU team that was to be one of the best defenses ever in 2004-2005...oh yeah, they got ripped by USC 55-19 in the BCS title game that year. Pelini is doing a great job at LSU and it will be interesting to see him go against Florida and potentially USC if the Tigers do end up meeting the Trojans for the title...
  3. Good to see Glenn in the mix...we need him. Can't we mix in some plays with Lucky in the slot and Glenn in the backfield? I'd like to see the defense have to worry about both of them on the same play. We have too much predictability in the running game at times...and teams like USC, Texas, and Oklahoma are going to tee off on our lone back if our O-line can't push open the holes...
  4. Agree completely...I think Brandenburgh and Thenarse should see more playing time immediately.
  5. I'll throw in my 2 cents... Sure, this loss sucks but USC is just flat out better than us. USC, LSU, and Florida are the elite right now and I think one of those will win the NC...sure another team can sneak through but those teams are the best IMO. Keller...dude is a stud. I actually think he is better than Booty and will go on in the NFL to a better career than Booty. He would start over Booty on USC. The guy is gutsy and can make the throws. USC defense is their strength this year and he did a pretty good job against them. He kept us in it as long as he could despite the fact that our O-line was giving him little help and our defense was giving him ZERO help. I applaud Keller for giving what he had for the entire game (more than I can say for some of the fans who left early). The receivers...I thought did a good job to hang onto the ball tonight compared to earlier games. RB's...Lucky had another tough day running against a tough defense and our O-line could not make holes for him...I would have preferred some more short passes to Lucky (we saw some attempts to do that). I think Glenn is essential to our success...started to show some better signs tonight. I think we need a better one-two punch with Lucky and Glenn...I still don't see Lucky as this workhorse who can essentially take all the carries (especially in games against good defenses). The defense...lost the game for us tonight. Wow...that was pretty bad. Our defensive line is very weak. I didn't realize we would be this weak on the D-line this year (but we saw how Wake almost beat us this way via the run as well). We never even got close to pressuring Booty and I give some credit to our DB's that we didn't see any crazy long bomb highlight reel completions tonight from Booty because he had all day back there. I really hope we can pull in help at D-line in recruiting and we have excellent chance for two top JUCO's (Kuli & Thompson...you guys can play as soon as you get here!). I usually don't call players out..but Ruud, Jones, and Green should see less playing time. McKeon is getting close as well. Other than Bowman and Octo on defense, I don't know if we have anyone else that can make key plays. We need playmakers on defense in a very bad way. As for Cosgrove, I am really not sure how much of it is his fault...we often had a defender there to make the stop for a short gain only to miss tackle or have the USC athlete just juke us. The missed tackling is atrocious. Wrap up...cut the crap with the arm tackling or trying to throw a weak shoulder in to bring down a ball carrier! Again, there were plenty of plays tonight where the USC RB should have been stuck but due to missed tackles broke off considerable more yards. Very frustrating as last year opponents could throw at will on us...now that our secondary is getting built back up, our D-line is very weak after the losses of Carriker and Moore to the NFL...and now I expect teams will run at will on us. What does this all mean...again I look at other teams ahead of us in the rankings...elite are USC, LSU, and Florida and they would all come in to Lincoln and beat us. Oklahoma and West Virginia are also very good...one of these teams might sneak through in the end. Texas will likely beat us this year in Austin. Other than those...teams like Wisconsin, Ohio State, Louisville, Cal, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Penn State, UCLA...we are just as good as them. We are a #10 - #20 team right now. Getting better on defense must be our focus. IMO, this year's USC offense is not as good as in prior years but our defense is worse. And, USC's defense this year is one of their best but we still moved the ball successfully at times against them tonight. If a team like Florida or LSU winds up against USC in the championship, I think they will look at how Keller was effective passing against them. GBR
  6. Great job! Watching the vid to get pumped up for the game tonight!
  7. Go to the Contest Crib forum...it is also "pinned" near the top of this forum (Husker Football)...or I have linked it here: http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18369
  8. ND starter in their opener vs. Georgia Tech, Demetrius Jones, will transfer. Seems like ND could have found another position for him? Guess he wants to stay at QB and maybe he can do this as Northern Illinois? He is from Chicago so guess he will stay close to home... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3021106
  9. Another interesting headline from this site: Slotback Weapon? Joe McKnight could play a big role if USC watched Wake Forest play Nebraska. Wake Forest ran 20 reverses and one receiver carried the ball 12 times. Nebraska also missed 12 open-field tackles in the game. I can tell you one thing...if we have not learned to defend that play, I might not have a TV after Saturday night!
  10. Here is a link to a USC Website. http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/ It is worth a visit. Being out here in So. Cal it seems some USC fans like it but others sort of despise it. Kinda of has a tabloid feel to it sometimes. Fans were upset when during the death of USC kicker Mario Danelo the author of this blog (Scott Wolf) posted info. that the death was a suicide and fans were upset at his reporting (as far as I know I don't think there was an official determination made on Danelo's death, which was the result of his fall from a cliff). I just checked out the site and saw this tabloid headline: Fighting Mad? Nebraska players were furious with last year's conservative game plan against USC. You can click on comments to read posts of what others are saying. Here are some other headlines of note and the author Wolf is quick with updates so I'd expect more news as the game approaches: The Non-Answer Pete Carroll said either Charles Brown or Drew Radovich will start at right tackle. Chauncey Washington will play in first quarter but C.J. Gable starts. Matthews Starts Clay Matthews gets his first career start with Brian Cushing (ankle) not 100 percent. Cushing "might" be able to play, Pete Carroll said. "We'd like to see him play some to see how he does," Carroll said of Cushing. Debut Time Freshman Joe McKnight is supposed to start returning some punts against Nebraska. Morning Buzz Mark Sanchez finally visits Nebraska after the Huskers dropped him as a recruit. http://www.dailynews.com/usc/ci_6877492
  11. His headband is large/wide and when he takes off his helmet you see it and his hair sort of spikes through the top of it. He had a black one on during the Wake game...I have seen a pic with him wearing a red one as well. No big deal but I think the local sports jocks were trying to rib him that it looks funny. I listened to more So. Cal radio today...Carroll was interviewed by both Colin Cowherd on his national show as well as on a local show here. Pretty much coachspeak. With Cowherd, he compared coming to Lincoln as to coming to some of the big program non-conference opponents they have played in recent years (Auburn, VA Tech, Arkansas, and going to Notre Dame every other year). Also said this could be his most competitive team with perhaps the deepest defense he has had. Thinks winner of the turnover battle will win the game. The local show tried to bait him by saying, "Hey, Callahan has called this game just another game...what do you think about that!?" Carroll said he understood what Cally meant...that you have to prepare week in and week out and it is too difficult to take your team on highs and lows depending on the opponent...basically that as a coach you prepare consistently and that the players know what is at stake and they will be up for this big game. When the hosts talked about LSU and Oklahoma being impressive and that LSU is taking some first place votes, Carroll dismissed it saying only the last poll matters. He mentioned Joe McKnight (freshman RB phenom) and sounded like he may see the field. Said WR Patrick Turner is ready to go. USC will leave for Lincoln on Thursday afternoon. Local jock humor time...they said Snoop Dog and Will Farrell are reportedly staying at the Embassy Suites...then the one joked about is that the best hotel they have out there while the other mentioned that it is apparently the hotel to stay at for gameday. I have been to both the Embassy Suites and The Cornhusker and both are great! Lastly they acknowledged that Saturday is Pete Carroll's 56th birthday...let's make sure that is the only thing he celebrates on Saturday! GBR
  12. I'm also from out here in So Cal. And you are right. The radio commentators are pretty clueless. They act as though USC is the greatest thing since toilet paper. They all seem to forget the `80's and `90's when USC played like the substance in the toilet paper. The one good thing for So. Cal radio since USC has been good is that college football talk gets a lot of airtime compared to prior years.
  13. As I drive around here in So. Cal I have been listening to the local sports jocks...nothing surprising to me as I hear this all the time about USC being the greatest football team ever...I'll post other comments if things change...but here is the local mood... Most think USC will win convincingly by 2+ touchdowns. Saying USC should win by 20+ points as they need to make up some style points since there is a lot of talk about how LSU is playing...so there is talk that USC will not let up if they are ahead convincingly as they need to show a dominate victory against a quality opponent. Close first half but USC will pull away in second half. LB Cushing and RB Washington are coming back from injuries and should be ready. Opinion is Cally has been average for us so far and is not in the same league as Carroll. Some shots at Keller about his play (turnovers against Wake) as well as his headband thing (jocks trying to be funny but nothing out of line). Hope we come to play Saturday!
  14. No need for a long explanation. Did anyone happen to catch the game yesterday? Yeah, we beat the 2006 ACC champion in their backyard. Did I miss something? Insert the word "barely" between we and beat. PLUS It was the weaker 2007 version who hasn't won a game yet and barely had positive rushing yardage against BC. I'm just sayin' It's not too difficult of a stretch to believe we're somewhere in the top 18 or so..But Georga Tech should be in the top 5. And I'm not sure we could take Oregon or even Clemson, yet I think we are right where we should be. Playing Georgia Tech, Oregon, or Clemson would be great games. Georgia Tech in the Top 5? They have beaten a terrible Notre Dame team and Samford? Let's see how they do against Boston College this week...but Georgia Tech looks like a top 15 team. I don't think we'd beat Oregon if the game was at Oregon. I'd like our chances against Clemson the most. We are where we should be and this week should tell if we are truly a top 15 caliber team or not.
  15. Eh...I don't like our chances in this one very much... Nebraska 16 USC 34 Ground 113 Air 231
  16. I don't like how this is shaping up and expect a bit of a blowout by USC. We don't have the horses to keep up with them. If you ask me, USC would have gone into Wake Forest today and won easily by 3+ TD's. Time for BC to pull a rabbit out of his hat...
  17. An ugly win, but a win nonetheless. We at least won this type of game...in the recent past we always found a way to lose these types of games. Going on 4th call by Cally was not bad, but the play call of diving into the line was...that play was going NOWHERE all day. So I don't necessarily disagree with going for it but I did disagree with the play call. At the time I was screaming not to go for it and that would have been what I would have done (pooched it to pin Wake back). But if we were going to go, you absolutely must have a better play to execute. Keller looks very rusty but I give him credit for running the 2 minute drill before half to get that TD. That was crucial. The defense was in their bend and try not to break mode once again. We looked slow and our tackling is not good. Wake gashed us all day with misdirection and we had no answer for that. Bowman was clutch...we need him on the field. I like Octavien on the field also. Lucky looked hesitant and was not driving hard today. I'm concerned USC is going to toss him around like a rag doll. He looked tired today. Would have liked to have seen rotation with some fresher backs getting a few more carries. Dropped passes..WTF?! We have got to stop this. Kudos to Swift...that boy can hang onto the ball! ESPN...I admit I think some fans have been drinking the kool-aid a bit much in stating that at every chance ESPN is bias against us. I have never really put much stock into that sentiment..but today I gladly toast with you! They were awful! The bias against us was evident...on all close calls they had it in for us and their pulling for Wake on the last drive was sickening. I understand they would like a close game/OT game/underdog story but that was ridiculous! I'm really glad we pulled out the win but I think we are in big trouble with USC next week and am somewhat expecting a drubbing.

  19. I hope this rumor is not true. Woods is one of my favorite recruits in this class. He and Gabbert will be able to do a lot of damage on opposing defenses. Let's get him back in the fold before this becomes dragged out like with TR. I thought OSU wanted him as a CB anyway and he wants to play WR. OSU is probably snowing him. Man, I hate this...if you give your word, than stick to it! From what I gather, it seems Woods and his family are the type to stick to their commitment. I hope so as I think Woods will be a very special exciting player for us.
  20. Agree we should not get too worked up about this depth chart. The CB situation is such that it appears we have 4 good CB's (if Bowman and Jones are behind Grixby and Murillo...then maybe Grixby and Murillo are better than we are giving them credit for because I think Bowman and Jones are pretty darn good!). I do expect if a CB is getting torched than there is no doubt we should have some depth at back-up (which we did not have last year). I also like the fact that we can allow CB's a rest and have someone to fill in. I was surprised to see Mike McNeill listed so far down at H-Back...I thought this was to be his year to break out. The Culbert scenario at IB is still somewhat puzzling. Hope Glenn can come back. Excited to see Asante, Murillo, and Castille in action.
  21. Welcome, Cameron! Looking forward to seeing more SoCal recruits to the Big Red (Mohler and now Meredith in this year's class). Are Kuli and Thompson next???
