  1. I like this kid...a steady CB that could blossom into a special one. Linky: http://oklahomastate.scout.com/2/654759.html Recruiting: Okpara Has Narrowed It To Four By Robert Allen Posted Jun 26, 2007 Defensive back Ugo Okpara of Sugar Land (Dulles), Texas said he has a top four and he has a strategy on what he is doing. The 6-1, 180-pound corner or safety prospect is going to be moving fast and moving often in the month of July. "My newest offer is Boston College," said Okpara. "That's the new one and I'm excited about them. I really have it down to Arkansas, Virginia, Boston College and Nebraska. I am going to take unofficial visits to all four of those places. "I want to check out the environment and talk to the players and get their perspective on the program and where it is going and whether it will fit me. I want to talk to the younger players because they will relate to me and tell me the honest truth because those are the guys I will be there with for the next four or five years." Ugo said after the last visit that he will sit down and make a decision -- a commitment. "I still want to keep my doors open and I want to go back and make my official visits in September and later in the season. I'm looking for the which one is the best fit for me." Ugo said while those are his top four and all of those schools he mentioned are recruiting him to play cornerback. He is still talking to Missouri and Oklahoma State which are recruiting him as a corner or a safety. He wants to make a commitment before the season starts, yet still keep the doors creaked open in case something changes. Ugo's outlook is not uncommon as a large number of recruits don't completely close themselves off after making a commitment. He also wants to have some security in case of injury. It would appear that unless something does change those top four schools -- Arkansas, Virginia, Boston College and Nebraska -- have the best chance to convince Okpara that he belongs on their campus.
  2. I know it looks like Meechicken but the fat lady is not singing yet. I am not that high on Meechicken...have lost 4 bowl games in a row...Lloyd Carr seems like he is about ready to go...they are 2-5 vs. OSU since 2000....USC has embarrassed them in 2 Rose Bowls in last 4 years. Anyway, hope Gabbert and Givens make the call to McGuffie...he should definitely visit us before pulling the trigger on UM. He'd really be a fan favorite at Nebraska with his style of play.
  3. Free Scout link...we are moving up against Michigan State which he had as top choice prior...if we go head to head against Michigan State, we should be in very good shape! http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=655644 Demens: "It's confusing" By GSN Staff Scout.com Posted Jun 30, 2007 A lot of recent attention from the Nebraska Cornhuskers has moved the Big Red up on the list of Country Day linebacker Kenny Demens. Has Nebraska caught Michigan State and taken the lead in the Kenny Demens sweepstakes? GSN caught up with the three-star linebacker to find out what his plans are for the remainder of the summer and if MSU is still on top. After blowing up during his junior season, Detroit Country Day linebacker Kenny Demens didn't know what to expect from the recruiting process. As offers from across the region have continued flooding in, what was once expected to be an early decision has now become much more complicated for the three-star run stopper. "It's been an exciting experience," Demens told GSN. "I didn't know what to expect and it's exciting. At the same time, it's becoming difficult knowing that I'm going to have to make a decision." Despite offers from schools across the Midwest, two schools have emerged at the top of Demens' list. Due to the persistence of each coaching staff, one Big 10 school and one Big XII school have moved to the top of the board. "If you would have asked me three weeks ago, I would have said Michigan State was on top," Demens continued. "I'm getting to know Nebraska more and more right now though, and it's starting to get more confusing. I'm liking Nebraska more and more, but I've had love for Michigan State since when they first offered me. I talk to Michigan State everyday. I talk to Nebraska about 2-3 times a week." When it comes to picking his final destination, comfort level will play in pivotal role in Demens recruitment. Aware of the fact that the school he selects will be his home for the next four years, familiarity with the coaching staff is key. "I'm looking for a place that I can call home. I know I'm going to be there for the next three or four years, so I need to be comfortable with the players, coaches and everything. I'm going to Nebraska on an unofficial and I'm going to be comparing it to MSU. I've heard the fans in Nebraska are crazy because there's no NFL team there so it's the only football in the state. "I'm going to Nebraska around July 15. I've talked to Jonas (Gray) about taking the trip together, but I'm bringing seven uncles, my mom and my younger brother so we're going to have to go whenever is most convenient for all them." GSN will continue to provide the latest in Kenny Demens' recruitment.

Article at Scout (note the link is free...they are offering free trial right now....you can access some of the paid articles at this time...here you go...Gabbert and Givens telling McGuffie NU is the place! ): http://nebraska.scout.com/2/655646.html Huskers getting some help with McGuffie The man, the myth, the legend By Bryan Munson BigRedReport.com Posted Jun 30, 2007 There aren't many high school seniors, if any, that have become a bigger "buzz word" than San McGuffie. When someone mentions McGuffie it's almost in Superman proportion. They talk about an explosive running back that has the ability to hurdle his defenders. It would be one thing if it was fiction, but McGuffie and his abilities are as real as it gets. At 5-foot-11.5 and 195-pounds, Sam McGuffie is a highlight tape waiting to happen. He runs a legit 4.3/40, and even in the 4.2s occasionally, that to go with a 45-inch vertical jump. Don't believe the measureables? McGuffie has posterized some opponents by not running around them or through them, but by jumping over them. The clips add a bit to the legend that is the Houston (Texas) Cy-Fair running back. This summer, McGuffie is getting ready for his senior year and probably unlike anyone else in the nation. There is one day of rest, but he gets 10 workouts in a week on the other six days. "I am just working out," McGuffie said. "I work out twice, four times a week; once in the morning and again in the afternoon. Then, I just regularly workout six days a week and rest on Sunday." What is even more impressive about McGuffie is his desire to workout. It's not like all of these workouts are mandated or even monitored, he just loves to do them. "This is all on my own. We have a strength and conditioning program and I have two sessions. I lift and run in the morning then I take six hours of rest and I have a guy that helps me train and we work out for a couple more hours." Last season for Cy-Fair, McGuffie ran for 3,212 yards rushing and 44 touchdowns from his running back position. He earned all-state, offensive player of the year, all-district, district MVP and first team all-greater Houston as a junior. "Pretty much everything that I could get, I got. I got like 25 individual awards. I didn't get best player of the year in the whole state or anything, but I pretty much got everything else. I got everything that I could as a junior." McGuffie has been out to one camp so far this summer, but that is probably the only trip that he will be able to take. It's hard to schedule and fund those types of visits. "I don't any trips planned this summer. I would like to take some trips, but I just won't be able to. It's kind of hard. I might have to wait until I have my official visits to see any schools." "I did go out to the Nike camp at Colorado. I think that I did pretty well. I just wanted to go out there show them what I could do as a player. Also, I wanted to be out there without the helmet and pads and just compete." Bottom line, McGuffie doesn't have to get out to get the word out about him as a player. He holds offers from the likes of USC, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma and Nebraska among others. He remains wide open because each offer complicates things a bit more. "I am up to 30 offers or so. I haven't thought about my favorites at all. I am just soaking it up right now. I was going to make a decision by the time the summer was over, but the more the schools come in the harder it gets." On the field McGuffie just gets the job done. He is the go to guy for Cy-Fair. Whatever his team needs, he is called on and says that he can get what is asked of him on the field. "I would say my strengths is just my play-making ability. I can get things done. We need 10 yards, I get 11. We need a touchdown, I get a touchdown. If we're losing by a score or short by a yard, I am going to get it." Having that type of play-making ability is why McGuffie has become a popular target among Nebraska commitments to call and talk about Nebraska. Blaine Gabbert has been active in trying to convince McGuffie to come to Lincoln. "Gabbert has been texting me. He has been telling me that they have something going at Nebraska and that I should check it out. He's a good guy. He's a five star in my eyes. He's probably the best dual-threat quarterback in the nation." Gabbert is widely considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation and knowing that says something to McGuffie. "It makes me feel good. I want to be recognized, and not badly, and I think that is why Gabbert is contacting me trying to get me up to Nebraska with him." McGuffie is also sharing some correspondence with another Nebraska commitment, Bryce Givens. Givens and McGuffie have met and hung out during a camp this summer. McGuffie also thinks that having Givens after him is pretty nice too. "I spent some time with Bryce Givens out in Colorado. He was telling me about Nebraska's fan base, their tradition, great facilities, great coaching and the whole nine yards." "I like Nebraska, I think that everyone likes Nebraska to some extent. Givens is a great guy too. 6-foot-6 and he's a real technician on the offensive line. He loves to compete." While McGuffie would like to visit Nebraska this summer, it's probably going to have to wait for an official visit. McGuffie hasn't decided on who he will officially visit, but Nebraska is definitely in the running for one of those five visits. "I don't think that I will get a chance to get up to Nebraska this summer for an official visit. That is what official visits are for and I might just take one to see Nebraska."

  8. Another article: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/655378.html Kid is still in love with USC but that is the only place he has visited and all he knows at this point. He is open to other visits and wants to see NU! Again...no brainer of the year...have this kid visit us when we play USC. It will be nice to see him change to us after we punch SC in the mouth!
  9. Linky: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/655488.html He favors Okie State over us but hasn't been offered by Okie State? Not sure about this kid...we are in on some better LB prospects IMO. But appears to be smart with good GPA. In linked article, it says we are still recruiting him hard. Will have to see on this one.
  10. Now a at Scout. Rivals shows he has cut his favorites down to 3 (NU, OU, and A&M). This CA kid is coming to the Big 12. Anyone hear if he will N?
  11. Rivals has us in the lead. He shows now at Rivals. Scout article here has Nebraska, Okie State, and Wisconsin as leaders with Cox denying a true leader of the 3. Looks like he will visit us and the others as well...decision targeted for Dec.: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/654935.html
  12. Scout showing he has been offered by OU as well. :spooners

  14. Bingo...I added Demens to the recruiting board. Gray has now been offered by Michigan and word is recently ran a 4.37. Demens has not been offered by Michigan at this time. Both are visiting Nebraska for the USC game which is great news for us. Here is link on recent story on Gray and Demens: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/recruiting/...-19-midwest.htm From the article: I also talk to Blaine Gabbert, the recruit for Nebraska. I talk to him like every day. We just talk about Nebraska's program and stuff." This kid has a lot coming at him but great to see we are in the mix. Check out Blaine...recruiter stud!
  15. 16. Thanks, husker rob. I checked Moore out and found your link...link says he has not been offered by any programs yet but sounds like we are interested. Anyway, I thought this thread was about FB Brown? it was and still is, might be, can be sorry No apologies needed...just messin' around. Brings up a good topic...with the great OL recruits we have and top RB's we have and are still recruiting...we will need an awesome FB to further bust open some holes. I don't see Castille as this type of player as I think he will get opportunity to carry the ball a lot. A guy like Brown could excel as a blocker and maybe that's why we have offered him before Moore. Brown is heavier...Moore seems like he pounds the yards, although I have no idea what the competiton level he is against. I don't think this type of recruit's focus will be to carry the ball.
  17. Thanks, husker rob. I checked Moore out and found your link...link says he has not been offered by any programs yet but sounds like we are interested. Anyway, I thought this thread was about FB Brown?
  18. Appears he is a fullback prospect for us.
  19. Player: Don Brown Hometown: West Monroe, LA Position: FB Height: 5'11" Weight: 238 lbs. 40 time: 4.75 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Bid Red Report: Assessing the talent: Excellent blocker and ran for 6.5 yds/carry for 800 total yards and 14 TD's. Also has played LB in HS. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 15%
  20. Player: Jurrell Casey Hometown: Long Beach, CA Position: DT Height: 6'2" Weight: 282 lbs. 40 time: 4.8 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, USC, Oregon, Ole Miss, Arizona Favorites: USC Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Bid Red Report: Assessing the talent: Plays at top notch SoCal HS. From Scout (middle of page): Another lineman who continues to impress every time we see him is Jurrell Casey who was sporting a mohawk haircut today. Jurrell is a barrel-chested guy who is going to become a solid and thick plug in the middle of the line after a few years with a college conditioning program. He has a very quick first step and is surprisingly athletic for a guy his size. Another Scout article here: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/647881.html Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 15% Favors USC and there was talk of soft committ to the Trojans...recently he has opened up to visiting some other schools...remains to be seen if he will visit us. Says he will visit Oregon and perhaps others. No brainer of the year...have this kid visit Lincoln for the Nebraska vs. USC game!
  21. Here's a new article: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/654141.html Kid is really high on USC and UCLA but they have not offered him (remains to be seen if they will). He talks about his favorites in order as USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska, and Texas A&M. I am somewhat surprised to not see Washington listed as prior he was very high on them. Don't really know what the AZ schools are doing up there so high...he does say he will visit all of these schools including us. As an outside observer, he seems to like the Pac-10 so glad he will visit us and learn about Big 12 football and Nebraska's great tradition of defensive lineman.
  22. He will be visiting Lincoln in July. I've upped his odds. Rivals shows he like Arkansas but I think he'll like what he sees when he visits. Of the teams recruiting him, I don't think any of them can beat us in terms of attracting him and what he could achieve here.
  23. Welcome, Shaun! I get the sense this guy is going to be a gamer...an LB with a nose for the ball. Here is a link with some stats (Shaun is the first guy on the left): http://www.orangecoastcollege.edu/athletic...ry.htm?id=10276
