  1. Why do you believe arm slot cannot be changed? Dozens of pitchers do this in baseball every year. Mechanics are one of the easier things to fix with time and training. I'm curious why you think Green's throwing motion will not improve. Improve where? Improve his passing? If we trend toward a more running-based offense, do we care if his throwing motion improves? Eric Crouch was one heck of a gifted runner but not much of a passer. So was Jammal Lord, Tommie Frazier, Vince Young, Pat White, etc. Running QBs don't have to be good passers. This isn't an issue if our scheme trends toward the Zone Read. Of course, and he may fall flat on his face. But we won't know until the season and next progress. He may become the next great running QB at Nebraska. How could we possibly know that right now? How do you get to watch practices? Even the media doesn't have access. Are you on the staff or the team? As for games.... Green has played one full game (his first collegiate start), and some mop-up duty in three others, for a few series, total. If you're basing anything you wrote up there ^^^ on that, your sample size is too small. 1. Mechanics can change yes, but in college not a lot of time is spent changing them. It is also not as easy as one might think. Can they change yes and i hope they do 2. I am going by what i see. I don't think we want to be a running spread team (aka oregon and W. va) but i think we will lean that way for a while to compensate. The best thing we can do to improve his passing is have him pass. Also, if we are going to a running spread team then Tyler Gabbert better look elsewhere. We are recruiting him which leads me to believe we want to continue to be a balanced team coupled with our OC and his history of being balanced 3. We don't know, I hope i am wrong though. History shows us that great running athletic QB's don't pass the ball very well. Vick Taylor, white, and yes i will say it the Great Tim Tebow. Tebow is not a great QB, their offense works because they are stacked with talent 3 deep. 4. Not staff or team member but have a friend in a high place that allows me that luxury
  2. I think OU crushes us. 1. They play great D and a running QB that doesn't throw that well, combined with a limited play book because he is young, couple with our top 2 now maybe top RB being hurt, equals us having to throw which leads to a few turnovers 2. Their offense isn't what it was with Bradford but it is the best offense we will have seen, still. Our Defense is good but they will be on the field a ton which doesn't help in any way, not to mention our best cover corner (Dennard) is injured although he may play. 3. KSU put up some points on them but some came courtesy of special teams. We will need some special teams points but the chances are slim because there hasn't been one thing in our return game this year that leads me to believe that we can take one to the house. I believe our best chance (and it is slim) is with Lee as the QB and with Watson miraculously deciding to involve the TE in the passing game and scrapping any form of the zone read. I only think Lee gives us the best chance because he has proven to minimize major mistakes and he is the better passer. we are all kidding ourselves if we think that OU and their Defense is scared at all of our Frosh QB and his legs. They aren't and in fact they are hoping that he tries to run. Miami and BYU, more so Miami as well as TX beat them by throwing the ball. The weakness on OU defense is their back 7 more so their back 4 and to take advantage of that you need to throw the ball to win. Cody Green taking off scrambling isn't going to get it done. Add to that his limited knowledge of the passing game playbook and it all adds up to A VERY LONG NIGHT
  3. I believe this for a couple of reasons. 1. His throwing motion. Its not going to get any better and it creates bad throws due to the arm slot. 2. The offensive scheme. I believe that we will trend towards a more run based zone read type of team, especially early to compensate for Green's lack of passing prowess. That kind of offense is fine but it doesn't help the QB improve. (see tyrod taylor, pat white) 3. I think Cody is a great Athlete, that has gotten by with his great athleticism, but every step up the ladder brings with it much more athleticism at other positions. (See Pryor) I hope I am wrong, i just believe what I believe based on the things i have seen in practice and in games
  4. I appreciate all the responses. I dont think every backup should transfer, not at all. Just Lee, and here is why. Cody is starting now, a true frosh. You cannot put a true frosh into the role then bench him for making true frosh mistakes. also, their may be a QB competition in the spring and fall, but Cody is not going to lose it because they can't have him lose it. Coaches use a grading system, and Cody is not going to outgrade Zac, ever. He didn't last week in practice. There wasn't an open competition in practice last week for the job. It was decided on Sunday that Cody would start. In this case and this case alone, Lee needs to leave if he wants any chance to be the man anywhere else. yes it would suck losing him as a backup but it is what it is. My question is, do you all hate him so much that you would want him to stay here and compete in a competition for a spot that would truly not be open. Do you all hate him so much that you wouldn't want to see him get a shot at leading at team for his Sr. Season even though it would be a DII school.
  5. I appreciate the input from everyone. It is not a Lee vs. Green thing for me at all. I am just not willing to sacrifice this season for the betterment of Cody Green at the expense of every senior on the team. Especially when my belief is Green will be a Pryor, Tyrod Taylor type that never does pass well enough for our offense to be a legitimate threat. Hope I am wrong. But to say we are better right now with Green is ludicrous at best. No we are not, and all I have ever asked is (as one poster stated) critique both QB the same. We aren't, Green is getting excuses and passes, whereas Lee got an over abundant of negatives for the same damn thing
  6. Might as well add LaTravis Washington to that, huh? no that is different. do you hate him so much that you want him to be stuck behind a guy where he truly has no chance to play
  7. not a chance. we can beat KU and KSU and CU with Lee, we lose 3 of the 4 with Green. You have RB to run the ball, but you have to be able to throw and Green cannot do that . 2 years from now we are going to be the VA. Tech or the ohio state of the big 12. great D and avg offense with a QB that can run but can't throw enough to be dominant.
  8. I read on here how someone thinks Zac should transfer. I agree in this case alone simply because they made the switch to a freshman. there is not going back. He has no chance to start because they can't give him one. Lee needs to transfer or he won't play again
  9. I have read a few posts here that say we got that spark with 20 first half points. LMAO no we didn't. we got a spark from Martin and the other 13 points should be credited to the D for great field position. I have read where the D keyed on Green and that is why the zone read wasn't effective. LMAO no they didn't. He is a frosh they weren't keying on him. Our LINe is Bad but he didn't improve the zone read I have read where Cody was an improvement. LMAO. no he wasn't. He did one thing Zac hadn't done and that is rush for a first down (2 to be exact) He also did 3 things Zac hadn't done also, Threw a pick 6, Lost a fumble, and threw 2 passes that bounced 10 yards short of their target. I hope everyone now realizes that Zac was not the major part of the problem and if his confidence was shaken it was probably for good reason as the line can't block, the WR aren't that good, and every rb we have is hurt. OU is going to kill us with Green at QB. Do you really think the OU defense is scared of a QB who could maybe gain 50 yards on the ground but can't throw it, or do you think that they may worry about us to some degree if we have someone that can pass a little. When you pile on the blame of a struggling offense squarely on the back of your QB, then make a switch to a frosh qB who is not ready to play, the backup HAD BETTER PLAY BETTER THAN THE GUY HE REPLACED. He clearly did not, in fact for my money he made our offense worse because any resemblance of a passing game we had is gone and our running game didn't improve. The one thing that gets me is how Zac Lee was crucified by people for the things that happen yet now those same people are giving a pass to Green for the same mistakes and giving a pass for worse mistakes than Zac ever made.
  10. and what if he is kicking their asses. as all the naysayers on here point out he can be really good but if there is any struggle at all against OU then he should once again get benched.
  11. Go Zac. Play your butt off. shut the idiots up. What do we get if Green starts? 50-60 yards rushing and 2-3 turnovers we haven't seen with Zac. Bad trade. Start Green give up the North Lee is the best option, i hope he shoves it up you alls asses Must be really tough to have to prepare for two battles, one against the team you are playing and one against the group of fans that are supposed to be your supporters
  12. I started trying to look up examples and about the middle of page 2 realized that i was drunk or blind. So i started retracing my steps and found the stuff i had seen earlier. Honestly i was starting to feel like an idiot for a bit
  13. Oh SH%#, I am at work and was running through posts and when i started this it was after reading a few. I have gone back through to try to give examples and have realized that i am wrong I addressed this to DocNice but meant to address it to IV Hokie. I got things backwards. I stand corrected on the DocNice post. I dont know if he is bad or not but his post was good, too. I was upset by some of the lack of respect towards IV Hokie in his post wishing us good luck. Between phone calls and interruptions and other work details, i started a rant directed at one post while addressing it to a different poster. Sh*& happens.
  14. didn't say he was treated poorly in terms of threats or calling him names etc. So he is a homer, so are you, so am I. The point is, some get on a message board and expect everyone to post only pro-husker topics. He had a point and he made it, in a well thought out way. Its his opinion, he presented it calmly and without animosity towards us. It is unfortunate that some of the Husker Faithful get upset when people have a differing opinion. All i was saying is that, unlike many trolls that come here or to other boards, He was rational. For my money, i would take dissenting views like his all day long as they make for good debate. As for how he treats people on his board, i dont know because i dont frequent it.
  15. I may not be in line with some, many, or all of the posters here, but for my money you can come here anytime. Your thoughts and comments were well put together and very unbiased IMO. That is what message boards are about and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. I apologize for the select few who turned the whole topic into a bashing because, what you had to say they didn't want to hear. we may agree or disagree with your opinions but your logic and arguments were well thought out. I only wish that people would rebuke or debate your comments with logic and thought as well. Most of your post was great including the Husker faithfull but it really is a shame that a few had to get on and completely disregard your comments simply because they didn't favor the skers. I think NU wins but have truly appreciated your insight and thoughts.
  16. Billyball, I agree 100%. I will just defend Lee when people start calling for CG or pining over Ganz. If Lee turns out to be equal to Ganz then we will never be that good. For us to clear the hurdles we need and want to clear this year or next then Lee needs to be better than Ganz, cuz i just don't think Ganz was that good.
  17. Also, Lee wasn't good I agree 11 for 30 not good. Watch the game again. 5 passes thrown away when they should have been to avoid a sack (sacks Ganz notoriously took) 6 dropped balls.(2 td's dropped) 11-30 take the 5 throw aways out and that is 11-25 then the 6 dropped balls (which i agree happen0 and his day is not nearly as bad as it looks There are several ways to skin a cat. Lee is going to be very good for us and we will all be very appreciative of his time here.
  18. Ganz won what, 1 "big" game in his time under center and while you have your opinion which i respect, i disagree that he won the Clemson game for us. In fact in the first half he did things that dug us a hole. Yes we did climb out of it, but he didnt win the game.
  19. saved the bowl game for us? seriously? He made a pick because the ball was underthrown, had the pass been good he was beat and we arent saying he "saved" the game
  20. Let's throw another comparison in there. Big Games. Take the numbers all you want. Lee wasn't good but still had us in position to win the game as opposed to lets say TT, OU, Clemson, CU the year before, Va Tech All games in which Joe DID NOT put us in position to win but rather did stuff that could have cost us the game. TT - dont tell me he was throwing it away. He threw it straight up field into the waiting arms of the defender OU - First play horrible pass pick 6 and they are off to the races CU- The previous year, Ganz cost us the game in the 2nd half he sure as hell didnt put us in position to win VaTech - Again never put us in position to win, but made plays that put us out of position Clemson - the bowl game, the only game listed we did win but it sure wasn't because of Ganz. In fact it was due to Castille having a monster day and out defense playing very well The point is Lee wasn't good but he did enough to have us in position to win. If Holt caught the ball with consistency he does have a TD that wins the game. he didn't do anything that cost us the game that is better than a stat comparison at this point. Facts prove that in Big Games Ganz wasn't good and in fact got to a point where he made ridiculous mistakes that took away our chances to win. THAT IS WHY WE WILL NOT MISS GANZ AND I would take Lee over him every day and twice on Sundays
  21. This isn't a post about benching #33. It is a post in response to all the RT cant play so that is why #33 does. I want to point out a few facts. 1. in the 3rd week of fall camp, Sanders came out and publicly stated that RT was having the best camp of the whole secondary. (Lincoln Journal Star) 2. Depth chart comes out and RT is listed as Co-#1 3. After first game in which RT leads team in tackles, Sanders comes out puclicly again and states that they need to find ways to get RT on the field. (Lincoln Journal Star) Now either our coaches speak out of turn and give us info they think we want to hear, or they say things then dont follow through. This is not a knock on #33, but if a guy is having the best camp of anyone in the secondary, is 3rd on the team in tackles despite playing far fewer minutes than the starters, is in a position that the coaches themselves say they need to find a place on the field for him...................................... Then why the hell is he not in the game? #33 plays hard, but this play was not the first disaster of that game for him. Co-#1 means Co-#1 so why is RT not on the field too. That way at the end of a game, the kid who has played better is out there.
  22. Thank you Husker B, an answer i love to hear.
  23. wait for it wait for it wait wait Lee, barring injury, starts not only every game this year but next year as well? Green has taken a small handfull of snaps in one game against an inferior beaten down opponent in meaningless time and it feels like at least half of the Husker nation is already calling for a change. How are the boards going to read after the 4th game next year when Green still is the backup? Is it so hard to believe that Zac Lee might be extremely good? Lee will start for 2 years, my only hope is the Lee unfaithful step back at some point and give the player his due. If Lee read these message boards (i doubt he does) how do you think this looks to him. Reading this garbage after having a very very solid game, leading us to a blowout win, watching your backup( the guy you clearly beat out) come in and run a couple of series and have a nice run and then going home and reading how the backup should start now or by conference or at least get a couple of series a half, whatever, would be disturbing. Lets not forget that the only reason Green got to play at all is because our defense held them to 3 points and our offense, led by (the guy we want benched) staked us to a lead large enough to allow the BACKUPS to enter the game. Ever heard of the phrase set up to fail? Well that is the situation we are putting Lee in. I can already see it, a close loss somewhere along the way where Lee completes 70% of his passes, throws for 3 scores, and has 0 picks, we lose due to a fumble or just simply get beat by 3 points, and the masses will be SCREAMING at the top of their lungs that had Green been in the game we would have won. While i dont want us to lose a game ever, it might actually be the best thing if Lee were to get a little dinged up and miss 1 game only and have Green start and lose. Green is going to be very good, maybe even awesome, but not for 2 years. Again, is it so hard to believe that Lee might also be very good, maybe even awesome?
  24. This is the dumbest single post i have ever read. There are so many points that are simply laughable. 1. Lee locked onto the WR. You could see this from the stands. Ok. It doesn't matter that the game plan was designed that way. A simple plan with plays designed to give him 1 or 2 options only. This was done because it was his first start. 2. Lee isnt as good as Ganz. Hmmm Lets see. He is faster, he is stronger, he has a better arm. He has yet to make one stupid decision that cost us a game where as Ganz had 2 and tried to have 2 or 3 others (see Colorado in 07 and Clemson last year) 3. Green just looked more in command. He ran like 10 plays. completed 2 dump passes and threw the other way too hard. He had a good run, 1 good run against a beat down D on an inferior team. WooHoo he walks on water. I could go on and on but i wont. Instead, i will ask a simple fricking question. DO YOU TRUST OUR COACHES? If that answer is yes, then shut the hell up with the Green starting. Wats himself has said that Lee graded out much higher in the spring and much higher in the fall and higher for the first game. He has also stated that Lee is our starter period.
  25. You are missing the point. I have no problem with him as #2 and no problem if he plays. My problem is that a ton of posters both here and on the pay board, have basically annointed Green the starter next year. To that i say BS. It hasn"t been stated once that Green is close to Lee. If Lee has a good year this year there is absolutely no reason Green starts next year and furthermore absolutely no reason that Lee should have to be worried about a position battle. NONE. If you will recall, Pelini and Co. came in last year and said every position is up for grabs except QB, (Joe Ganz is our starter), which was said from day one. If Lee has a good year this year, all i am saying is that going into next year the same thing should be said for Lee. I am tired of hearing how Green is the annointed one. Give Lee a chance and when he makes you all forget about Ganz (which he will) then Green can just wait another year to Play.
