  1. Just remember, folks--anyone can sue anyone else for anything at any given time. Hell, I could sue all of you for lookin' at me funny. Doesn't mean I'll win...hell, it doesn't even mean the case will be heard (judge could toss it out on its ear, like Baylor's case), but I can still threaten to sue and have you spend money, time, and resources you'd rather use elsewhere. And Baylor has no leg to stand on in this case--it's thinly disguised, poorly executed posturing that well beyond tardy by 1.75 years. The only party that could seek relief is the Big 12 conference office itself, as the members delegate authority to that organization. Now, if Baylor were to sue the Big XII and Dan Beebe for malfeasance...then we're talking about a barn-burner of a case that has legs and could net Baylor (and the other have-nots) a lot of money. But just remember what happens with Baylor's litigation threat--all of the dirty laundry, backroom discussions on the record but never released, and all of the communique between schools and/or the Big XII from back to when NU and CU were leaving all comes into the public eye. Do you really think Dodds and Beebe want to be set up in the public eye as any more the idiot and egomaniac that they are already colored as? Texas is already having a hard enough time spinning this as it is--just image what would happen if the truth got out.
  2. For the B1G, if Missouri and Kansas are both in the hunt for new homes. Not saying it *will* happen, but *if* the B1G decides to expand, and Kansas is on the market, our biannual Nebraska migration game could be back on. I think that ira is referring to the confusion stemming from the thread title, "KU is a better fit for Big XII than Missouri," when it would seem to be intended as " KU is a better fit for B1G (Big Ten) than Missouri" Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...I'm an idiot. Old habits die hard...I suppose. Herp de derp on me. It's fixed now. Thanks.
  3. They said the same thing about the B1G last year but yet Mizzou was left outside looking in as the B1G closed the door on their faces. Unless the SEC wants to take Maryland, there aren't any other media markets to expand into except for Texas (A&M) and Missouri (Mizzery). I'd say if Mizzery isn't a shoe-in, they're the next best thing. Better than their shot with the B1G, at any rate.
  4. I read this, and the song 'one of these things is not like the other, one of these things is not quite the same' just played in my head. Dunno why.
  5. MassHuskerFan--not trying to nitpick, but this appears to be more of a review of your television provider (Charter) than it is the Big Ten Network. Had no problems with the BTN, and my provider (Verizon FiOS) has the main channel and all of the overflows (though only in SD). If your cable provider is so crappy as to not provide overflow channels, then perhaps it's time to look at Dish or DirecTV? Then again, Charter, Time Warner, Comcast, and the whole lot deserve to have their CEOs put in a burlap sack and be thrown into the Platte River. And the studio analysis that the BTN provides is heads and shoulders above what we've ever received on ESPN. Dinardo is great at his craft, and he's been quick with both compliments and thoughtful criticism of DoNU this year. It's going to suck going back to ABC/ESPN after having our first two games on the BTN and our third game on Versus (which will likely be a Nebraska love-fest as well). Is Verizon FiOS as good as it's hype? If Verizon FiOS was a woman, she would be Mila Kunis (Sarah Marshall Mila, not Black Swan/Ineedasammich Mila) dressed for an evening of entertainment holding a silver platter with a six pack of ice-cold Abita Turbodog and a note from my wife and the Pope granting permission. So yeah, it's good.
  6. Well then we could bench him and return to 2009 where nobody scores for us. Nobody? Why don't you tell Mr. Suh that he's a nobody to his face and see what happens.
  7. Maudfather--I think the B1G is content with 12 unless their hand is forced. And frankly, there's no reason to rush--the schools that appeal to the B1G are not the schools that are possible B1G expansion candidates aren't going anywhere yet. Plus, it would be better for the B1G to let another conference take on the headaches that come from a 16-team conference while Delaney, et al sit back, watch, and learn from their mistakes.
  8. Once the Big XII came into existence, it seemed this sentiment went by the wayside. One of a whole litany of reasons why the Big XII (and SWC) failed--you can't have a conference where the general feeling from the schools is 'every man/woman for themselves'.
  9. For the B1G, if Missouri and Kansas are both in the hunt for new homes. Not saying it *will* happen, but *if* the B1G decides to expand, and Kansas is on the market, our biannual Nebraska migration game could be back on.
  10. I don't know if this good that Shatel has put in print what I've said for some time now. Especially considering how some folks here feel about him. Add this to the fact that the Big 10 already counts St. Louis (or part of it, anyway) in its footprint, and it can get Missouri without actually having to add a school from Missouri, and get Kansas for free. It's like a buy one, get one free sale. If anything, this is probably why Kansas has been publicly saying they're not tethered to the PurpleEcoWarriorKitties--while they would be happy with a landing in the Big East (a very solid plan 'B'), they'd much rather have the national network and cache of the Big 10 behind them.
  11. It looks like Lady GaGa threw up all over a Maryland player, and no one wanted to tell him to clean up because she was still in the room.
  12. I don't see how Baylor could seek relief--they subscribed to the Big XII, just like everyone else, and as long as Texas A&M is leaving per Big XII guidelines and agreements, Baylor shouldn't have a leg to stand on. Plus, once there's a lawsuit, any and all emails and communique from the past two years regarding realignment could very well become public. That could potentially be damning to certain pointy-uterused schools... Frankly, if Baylor is suing someone, it should be the University of Texas for putting all of this in motion in the first place.
  13. Link to article Of note: Smart money is on Missouri--overall, they bring more to the table than West Virginia. Of course, the schadenfreude will be off the charts if Missouri does become the other SEC transfer, considering they're chairing Beebe's search committee for Big XII replacement schools.
  14. I have watched this game two times already and I'm planning on a third. Second time through I paid particular attention to Taylor's progression because so many people are saying he didn't read the pattern, he just ran. I didn't see that so I focused on it in particular, and you're absolutely right - he did better. He is NOT Tom Brady reading through four options before finally tucking it and running. He still runs before he should a fair portion of the time. But he's going through his progressions better than last year. I thought Bo or Beck came out and said Taylor was directed to run in this game after checking down to the second receiver...Wouldn't that play into Taylor's perceived lack of checking down receivers?
  15. You're right, IRAFreak. Missouri could probably get a spot in the Big 10 if they wanted.
  16. Sorry, Baylor. That ship sailed when you were content to cut the legs out from under Colorado and force your way into the Pac-10 along with the rest of the Big XII South escapees. Now that it looks like you're getting left behind, you want everyone to wax nostalgic for the good of Texas football? You can just smell the irony. Or hypocrisy. Not sure which is stronger here. Let's not forget that TCU was supposed to be in the Big XII originally, but the then-governor of Texas was a Baylor alum and refused to sign off on the deal unless Baylor got TCU's place at the table. In short, the teetotalers at Baylor have been breaking the Eighth Commandment ever since 1996. Then again, their players like to break the Sixth Commandment, which I suppose makes the Eighth Commandment small potatoes...so I guess there's that...
  17. I, personally, would amend this to 'the top teams that can draw an audience have other options'. Okie Lite is supposedly a 'top team' in the Big XII, if ratings are to be believed. And Okie Lite's only option is to shackle themselves to their more successful big brother through legislative means to ensure they have a destination. That's hardly a real 'option', don't you think? And to think that Pickens was against welfare for the needy. :|
  18. Because FOOTBALL drives the money, basketball is very small potatoes compared to football in generating revenue. Make no mistake about it, conference expansion is driven by three things MONEY, MONEY & MONEY. That is why you don't hear much about KU. In fact you actually pointed out why KU is being left out of the talks. "Why does everyone think KU is a weak college? Football, yes." That my friend says it all right there. Wrong. This round of expansion is driven by media markets, potential ad revenue, and brand cache. Those are things Kansas football can't deliver...but Kansas basketball certainly can. If it were about money, money, money, then people would be falling over each other to woo Texas, and they aren't. Frankly, Kansas is one of the top two basketball programs in the nation--it would be hard for the BTN to ignore the ratings windfall from December through March the BTN would receive with Kansas in the lineup...not to mention a possible renegotiation with CBS and ESPN (who hold our Big 10 basketball conference rights). Kansas, like Nebraska, is a national brand--this is what places the BTN on the basic tiers of cable providers outside of the BTN local footprint, which in turn gets more people watching, which in turn allows the BTN to raise ad rates (which have no ceiling). Plus, Kansas is an AAU member, while Oklahoma is not. Still matters to the Big 10, though not as much as we first thought (with the recent revelations that Michigan and Wisconsin voted to kick us out). But if Kansas comes in, it won't be on their own--they don't have a (significant) new media market they'd bring to the BTN footprint (save for KC, which by itself is very 'meh'). Kansas would likely be paired with another school that draws from large market areas--say, a Rutgers or a Maryland, or another national draw (read: 'Domers) to expand the local footprint and expand national adoption of the BTN at the television provider level.

  20. I guess people still don't get it - not everything is about money. From my naive point of view, it was about everything except tv contract money. I'd say we made out perfectly. I've heard all the arguments from outsiders who think we're going to regret the move, but I think it's just wishful thinking to want us to be unhappy or fail, etc. So far, I don't see any people upset with it at all. That being said, I'd love to have KU (and MU) in the Big Ten, but not if it means having to bring in KSU. Carl--KU Chancellor said that the Kitties have to find their own way the other day and that KU is not tethered to them. I think I posted a thread on it somewhere... Still think that if the Big 10 expands, Kansas is on the short list because of Olympic sports, basketball, and Kansas/Missouri market expansion. Thing is, Delaney doesn't see expansion beyond 12 as a necessity, and the more this goes on, the more I'm inclined to agree with him. --- And Jayhawk, Carl's right--it's honestly everything *but* money as to why Nebraska left the Big XII. Perhaps if our Big 8 conference mates had voted with us instead of against us all those times? Or...perhaps if the conference had complained about a UT alum in charge of all conference officials? Or perhaps if the Big XII had an academic consortium to go along with the athletic...? Any concerns that Nebraska was doing the wrong thing in moving to the Big 10 were laid to rest in seeing how our former Big 8 conference mates treated us and allowed those kids on the field to be railroaded three times over last year.
  21. And now (finally) begins the narrative of Beebe's incompetence. Perhaps Beebe's incompetence (malfeasance?) will be Missouri's "Get out of the Big XII Free" card? Beebe is ultimately bullet-proof, just so long as he doesn't commit a felony, publicly deny the Holocaust (and have it recorded for posterity), and continues to route all league issues through Dodd's office. And this is really the first we've heard Missouri speak up. If Pinkel feels this way, I'm sure his admin has much more venom and vitrol for the idiot, and they're using it to make a move.
  22. My memory isn't what it used to be, but didn't Dr. Tom have a beef with it up front, and wanted a Big 12 network instead (like the B1G has)? Or have I been reading too many msg boards? We originally were looking at doing our own network, but the costs were too prohibitive and (per recent LJS articles) it likely wouldn't have gotten off the ground. Texas would have found similar issues, but thanks to their fairy godmother in Bristol, they don't have to worry about one cent of start-up costs.
  23. Because Big 10 footprint already covers Missouri (via St. Louis), so adding Missouri doesn't really bring anything but the KC market into play. Kansas can do the same thing *and* bring in a top-flight basketball program to boot. Academics are on-par with Missouri, and Kansas technically has had better results than Missouri--Kansas has at least been to a BCS bowl, whereas Missouri has not. While Kansas sucks at football, their bread and butter (and moneymaking ability) lies with Basketball. --- And kc_husker, yes, it's common knowledge the Big East and Kansas have been talking since the summer of 2010. But I would be sure that this news (if Delaney already didn't know) puts Kansas on the B1G's radar, at the very least. And if the Big 10 stops to say 'hi' to Kansas, do you honestly think they won't open the door?
