  1. Riley's been to many a husker game before. I like our chances.
  2. Defensive line for me is obviously one of the scariest positions heading into next season. having graduated all of our front 4 will leave us with some green on that defensive front next year. At D-tackle I am not that worried I think NU is in good shape and between Suh Barfield B Johnson Steinkuhler Jensen Roark Dixon 4 of these guys will be solid enough to play. But defensive end is really what scares me the most. The obvious two for starters are Potter at base and Turner at open. Potter despite making a lot of noise on special teams blocking field goals, has really not done much with his regular defensive play only making 2 tackles all last year. Without question spring ball and fall training camp will be extremely important for him. His potential is through the roof. Another option at base is moving Steinkuhler there. This is what i think will ultimately happen. Steinkuhler looked pretty good all last year. He has got the frame, although a few extra inches could benefit him (a few extra inches could benefit all of us). Another name you hear tossed around at base end is incoming JC recruit Joseph Townsend, who is the younger brother of former Husker Larry. He would be a very likely candidate to start but he has an academic LOAD he has got to get taken care of before he ever gets to Lincoln. Having met Joe, he is a fantastic kid and has that certain charisma about him that will make him a team leader once he is here. He also is aware of how serious his homework is and I think that he has a better chance of getting it taken care of than not. But even in gettinn it done I do not think that the NCAA clearinghouse will be on the ball enough to get him in the hunt for the starting early enough. If he is cleared early enough though, look out! on the open side it is likely barry turner. In this poster's eyes he is the best all around athlete on the team. 6-3 250lbs and can run a 4.53 electronic. did I mention he can catch too? Turner is an athletic freak, no question. But last year I seemed to see him getting pushed off a lot of blocks, getting pushed down field 5 yards by the tackle before getting away from the big ugly and making the tackle. How will Pierre Allen fair? I have heard he is nothing short of a physical specimen at 6-5 255 and cat like speed and reflexes. Don't forget about Clayton Sievers. The coaches loved this kid before he went down to injury last year. He was playing open end, SAM LB and TE at once one point last year. I can't wait for spring ball.
  3. he attends a Jesuit High School, DeSmet. Be very wary of Notre Dame. If they come in with an offer, they could be very tough to beat.
  4. Eric, when you say you like Williams the most, whath do you mean by that? Do you mean out of the unoffered players thus far? Or do you mean you like Troy even over the likes of Baker and Trevor?
  5. Big Red Wrap Up is going to be a little fluffy when it comes to in state prospects. Don't confuse someone being "on the coaching staff's radar" with "on the verge of an offer."
  6. I've heard this kid is just a super athlete.
  7. umm, Tim Biere is not exactly on the verge of getting an offer. He's supposed to go to the NU football camp this summer, and if he performs well, then he could be offered. That doesn't exactly sound like "on the verge to me."
  8. from everything I'm hearing about Jermie, he's very close to pulling the trigger to OU. That would give OU 3 of the top 5 recruits from the state of Texas in Good, Washigton, and Calhoun. I just wanna know one thing. how does OU do it?
  9. you can cross this one off, he's not coming.
  10. 1) Baker Steinkuhler - OL - Lincoln SW 2) Trevor Robinson - OL - Elkhorn 3) "Emeka" Collins Okafor - RB - Westside 4) Ronnell Grixby - DB - Central 5) Sean Fisher - LB - Millard North 6) Troy Williams - WR - Auburn 7) Tim Biere - TE - Westside 8) Sam Frazier - LB - McCook 9) Matt Manninger - LB - Creighton Prep 10a) Mike Mintken - DT - Gretna 10b) Nick Anderson - DB - Skutt This is of course just my predictions, what does anybody else think of the list? Would you make any changes?
  11. 1) Blaine has cousins that live in Omaha and who are constantly IN HIS EAR about going to NU 2) Billy C coach Blaine's dad as a Saluki.
  12. Maurice is a student of Dominguez High School in Compton CA. Does the name David Ross ring any bells? It is the same school as Ross graduated from. Sidenote: supposedly the staff was not that disappointed in losing Travis Lewis but was devastated to lose Ross. Simmons, right now, does not exhibit NU as being a standout school. I think our chances are slim. But never underestimate the recruiting qualities of Bill Busch. It's amazing how making an in home visit in a neighborhood like that, being a white guy wearing RED in that area will impress an kid. That's supposedly what made the decision for Thenarse.
  13. This one is an outstanding prospect. Will likely end up at USC. He has tremendous football speed and gets low when he runs. He hits you right at your center of gravity and just explodes right through you. He has tremendous football speed and can get sideline to sideline quickly. This one is like the Noel Devine of this years class in that his videos are just obsurd. Also Arthur has awesome football speed. He has got a very quick 10yd burst. Will likely have his pick of the litter about where to go to college. Did I mention this one is fast?
  14. Troy Williams will sign D-1. The question is to where? Personally I do not think it will be with NU. He won't get an offer.
  15. If Benard Thomas had actually been good...without question he would've been my favorite player by far.
  16. Jeff Makovicka Dane Todd is pretty close though
  17. The staff was about this close from offering Jake Gdowski after their camp this past summer because he showed so much nastiness and he got after it so much. Jake was 6-3, but they thought he had a ton of heart and potential, but ultimately they never offered him and he signed in February with Colorado St. They might have like hmi though for D-Line. I'm not sure.
  18. he's nothing like Garret Green. Think Ryan Mallett with this one. Huge arm. Huge!
  19. Ht: 6-3 Wt: 285 40: 5.2 The next great lineman from Mullen HS in Denver? Mullen HS in Denver produces D-1 talent. The past three years, Mullen has put 14 kids in D-1 ball. Along with this, almost every year it produces a solid lineman prospect as well. '03 - Brian Daniels - CU '05 - Jesse White - OU '06 - Chris Guarnero - Cal '07 - Shawn Daniels - CU Jimmy Miller's parents are from Nebraska and Nebraska is his early favorite. But is Jimmy Miller one of NU's favorites? Time will tell. So far Jimmy has offers from only SDSU. Right away what strikes me about Jimmy is he's 6-3. We have not recruited an O-Lineman that short since Craig Roark. Who, by the way, was converted to D-Line upon arriving at campus. We'll see.
  20. No. I don't mean Dodge City CC. "Here's another prep QB NU is looking at. He's from Dodge City, KS and he is a very good looking D-1A prospect. Supposedly he like ISU, KU, KSU and NU quite a bit. Kansas has already offered." I thought I made that clear.
  21. Was the firing of Frank Solich the right move or the wrong move? I hate to bring it up after all these years, but I'm curious what percentage of the Husker nation feels one way or the other after these years.
  22. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? since birth 2) What/who led you to The Nation? being born 3) Where are you from originally? Omaha 4) Where do you live now? Lincoln 5) Favorite Husker memory? "He's inside the 5, he's got the touchdown! Touchdown Cory Schlesinger! And Nebraska takes the lead!" 6) Worst Husker memory? 2002 in Ames 7) Number of home games attended? hell if i can count them 8) Number of away games attended? 3 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? Lincoln Journal Star dated Jan 3, 1995 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) Memorial or Joe Sensor's in Bloomington MN 11) Favorite all time player? Jeff Makovicka 12) WCO or Option? Both 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? Both are good 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Herbie. Prefer the old herbie but the new one is ok. Capitol One mascot of the year last year. 15) Favorite Husker play? We used to run that little counter sweep back under TO. God that was sweet. Unstoppable. Fullback trap was always cool too. 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Kool-aid
  23. Here's another prep QB NU is looking at. He's from Dodge City, KS and he is a very good looking D-1A prospect. Supposedly he like ISU, KU, KSU and NU quite a bit. Kansas has already offered. Ht: 6-1 Wt: 185 40: 4.7 Bench: 250 Squat: 320 GPA: quite good I would think if he comes to NU's elite QB camp this summer, he'll be ours if we offer.
  24. NU has a very good shot at Blaine at this point in time.
  25. Ethan likes us a lot more than 5%. Recently there was a death in his school. I think a classmate "wrapped his rig around a tree"(as Romey would say) and the local news was interviewing classmates about it. He was one of the interviewees and was wearing a Husker cap. Very good news I would think. He seems to like us a lot and our staff seems to like him a lot. I'm thinking more like 40%
