  1. What is the best strategy we can use to beat this team? I've heard their defense is excellent but that they have a weak offense. Our offense and defense can play very effectively (we proved that against MSU). What kind of game plan can we expect? Bo says that his team is very focused right now-how can we maintain that focus given the situation at State College?
  2. This whole thing hits home for me. My brother was almost molested by our principal in grade school. However, he refused to do what the principal said along with a few other boys and that principal was lucky to get out of our small town alive. I'm also a mom and an educator. I know that if this happened to one of my kids when they were young, I would appreciate any act of support or kindness. But I DO agree with you and with Bowfish's rant (although he could've left out the part dissing other people's efforts) if you're doing it just for show then don't but if you truly care then don't hesitate to say a kind word or if you're going to the game and it's your personality to do something like wear some blue, then do it. I'm sure they will appreciate it. I express my sorrow to you and your family, and as not only an educator, but a person, am also thankful things didn't go that direction for you. But this is where my "torn" feelings come from..... You said that YOU would appreciate any kind words or support IF it happened to YOUR family.... This is why I wish there was a way to express sorrow to the families directly involved....not to the University that "covered" the unspeakable for at least 10 years... Now, please don't take me wrong.... I KNOW that the good people and fans of PSU have absolutely nothing to do with this, and they and their beloved University is taking hits all over the country... I am not saying that the people in charge (regents) have done anything wrong...in fact, they seem to be heading in the right direction....... But, whether it is right or wrong, the past people of the University have been WRONG in handling this.... Does showing support to the University that at one time covered it up, be another slap in the face of the victims???? I do NOT know... I am asking..... Does that make any sense or am I just completely off base here..... I think that it is absolutely the right thing to do if you get a chance to talk to fans and express your sorrow..... I also get that the support some want to show is for the "new" regimn and how they are handling it, but not sure. I hope that our fans get a chance to 'tailgate' with the PSU fans. From what I've read on the Penn State Message Boards, they are looking forward to having NU come to play on Saturday. Here's to a really good football game. GBR!
  3. Excellent! Find an organization that has something to do with kids and volunteer. I do that already. But I found out that the PSU folks are asking for funds if you want to support the victims of this tragedy. (I posted it under another thread.) Think I'll send them a check...Join me?
  4. Here are what fans are saying on one of the Penn State message boards: "I'm a student. Anger is directed towards Spanier, the BOT and the media, not Nebraska. If I see any Nebraska fans on Saturday, I'll thank them for making the trip, just as I have with every visitor I've seen for any other team" "yup, gonna have a beer with them and hopefully talk some football with them. i think nebraska fans will get a warm welcome. our team might not be very welcoming of their team though. they're going to want to hit someone really bad and i'm guessing the feeling will be mutual." "As a student I can tell you I don't expect any problems. We are just extremely upset at the media and spanier. The only people that would have to worry about their safety at the game would be those crazy Westboro Baptist people, I wouldnt be surprised if that caused a problem." "Yep, I for one will be thanking any Nebraska fan that is there, and if I see anybody giving them a hard time, they will have deal with me....and I am not in good mood right now." GBR!
  5. They will see those ribbons on their own fans. There is a huge movement of PSU students who are going to be wearing blue on Saturday and some will be wearing ribbons as well. I think it will encourage them (jmho ) that so many people think that much of them that they would take the extra time to try to do something to show support.
  6. If you would like to help the victims of the PSU tragedy here's what the PSU folks are doing: http://www.rainn.org/ProudPSUforRAINN
  7. REX HAS JUST TAKEN THE LEAD!! 32% to COKER'S 31%!!! Keep voting Husker fans!!!!
  8. This whole thing hits home for me. My brother was almost molested by our principal in grade school. 9. Yeah, this would give us all a sense of accomplishment without actually having to get up and do anything... Okay, here's my problem with all of this symbolism: <BEGIN RANT>Every service organization, nonprofit organization, and youth group of which I am a member or know about is slowly dying because they cannot keep up their membership. Why? Because everybody thinks that feel good, do nothing, gestures are a good substitute for actually getting up early on a Saturday morning and accomplishing something concrete. Want to save a rain forest? Put this picture on your Facebook. Want to help someone in trouble? Wear a ribbon. Want to rescue the country? Stand around and hold a sign. Want to do good? Send an e-mail to five other people, maybe one of them will leave his chair and go out in the world and do something to make it a better place. There is nothing one can do either at or with a football game to address this problem. That moment has already come and gone. The next problem such as this won't happen in the Huskerboard forum or at the toin coss of Saturday's game. If it happens, it is going to be because nobody is there when someone is needed. So we will have to have one of us there to prevent it or stop it, rather than trying to get the warm and fuzzies because Eric Martin knocked a kick returner down while wearing a blue N or a blue ribbon. I could care less how anybody feels about anything. Show me what you are doing about it. <END RANT> Perhaps you should. I work in an elementary school. NO kid on my watch is ever going to get hurt. I see nothing wrong with showing support to PSU in fact, I think they would appreciate it. I agree that going to State College and playing hard-having a 'normal' football game is going to go a long way towards some healing. However, I see nothing wrong with showing support to a hurting fan base. You've shared how you think the PSU fans should be supported, but don't crap on the rest of us just because we have a different way of showing our support. No disrespect intended but please consider the attitude of our hearts before you lambast us. We just want to help in some way.
  10. I thought I heard somewhere that Dr. Osborne wanted the fans to wear something besides red this weekend. Any truth to this? I head that too. I think it would be very cool if Husker fans wore some blue to the game. I like the idea of a blue sticker on our helmets too.
  11. Welcome Shawn. We're so sorry for what has happened at your school. I hope that we can put aside all of the ugliness that's going on at PSU and just for a few hours have some normalcy-have a really good football game. We know that there are 'jerk fans' in every fan base, but hopefully folks from Nebraska will take special care to watch what they say and do while visiting in State College. Please let us know how we can support you!
  12. I just read this on the Penn State Facebook spot (take it with a grain of salt?): Robert James PSU Alert: NCAA will hold a news conference at 3PM EST to announce the cancellation of the Nebraska/Penn State football game on Saturday Nov.12 due to threats and behavior of the Penn State student body. Does anyone know if this is true? Has anyone else heard anything from the NCAA?
  13. Just when you think you've heard it all regarding this scandal now PSU has to deal with the folks from Westboro-incredible! http://www.lostlettermen.com/westboro-baptist-church-to-protest-psu/
  14. Do you think this is possibly time for the NCAA to step in? Nothing like this has ever happened in college football. I'm against boycotting the game but I never stopped to consider how dangerous it might be for Husker fans going down there. I was just reading fan reaction to the firing of Paterno-it's like many are sad to see him go (players very sad right now) but some said he should've went a long time ago, glad he was fired. It's really awful!
  15. It's on WOWT as well: http://www.wowt.com/
  16. I gotta go with what Landlord is saying. Jamal's injury I don't really buy either, but Courtney Osborne's is almost laughable. He has a severe case of being in the doghouse. Maybe Turner has been injured since, but he has not been playing because he has not been performing in practice. Rich fisher himself said so on sport nightly a few weeks ago. He is not competing and is not showing up focused. But I guess that's fine, we should put him out there anyway. I heard this same thing about Turner. Jamal himself said that he is just not grasping certain components of the game. If you're not ready you're not ready.
  17. It's Coker 32% Rex 30% C'mon you guys VOTE!!!!
  18. Here are a few comments from the Big Ten Blog-ESPNU: http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten as far as player reaction to JoPa's exit from PSU: JoPa to retire: "On what JoePa told the players: "He just told us he put in a letter of resignation. He thinks that would be best for Penn Sate, best for his family and best for everybody else. He doesn't want to put Penn State through a war or a fight or a media war against anybody. … He just always wants us to remember that this team will always be a team and always be together, not just for the next so many games and next year but we’ll be a team for the rest of our lives." Players feelings about the game on Saturday with NU: On Saturday's game against Nebraska: "I don't really know what it's going to be like. What I do know is I’m going to be playing my last football game with some people I’ve spent five years with, people I really, really care about. We're playing for each other right now. We’re playing for all we’ve worked for in the last five years."
  19. Here is a new wrinkle: The Department of Education to Investigate PSU: http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/38130/department-of-education-to-investigate-psu
  20. It will either be a loss or a huge win. I do hope it's a good game. I think that we have the edge considering everything that's going on around PSU but it will be a low scoring game. NU 10-PSU 3
  21. I agree with you one. So what if Taylor made a bad read or two, everyone does. He is a sophomore, that is a mistake even seniors make. I can't wait to see what Taylor accomplishes in his career, I think he is going to do great things. I'm wondering too that when he makes mistakes on the option it's simply because he continues to learn how to run the option. Coming from California, aren't their high schools playing more of a spread offense? The option takes time to learn. Our boys know it because they play it in high school. Question: In practice during the season are the coaches still judging the players? I'm assuming that they do. Perhaps Brion isn't showing them what they want to see or is not consistent in what they want to see? That's purely speculation on my part but I get the feeling that the young kids are not playing because they're simply not there yet. However, I think it's a shame that we haven't played well enough this season to give them the chance.
  22. My opinion is no boycott. If nothing else we should encourage our fans to go and support the fans and PSU team that is there. Don't you think in the midst of this horrific situation that they might long for a bit of normalcy? We can bring that to them if we show up ready to play. Maybe just for a few short hours they can have a respite from the ugliness that is tearing their university apart.
  23. Here is the latest from the Penn State fans (I've been following one of their message boards) They are worried they will lose too. It's all just so sad, excruciatingly sad. http://pennstatefootball.yuku.com/topic/5624/affected-----think---scandal
