  1. In addition to Jarret, don't forget about Patrick Turner and Ausberry. All over 6'4'' and fast.
  2. Haven't posted in a while, but I couldn't resist after making this observation. A while back there was much debate about "all the change". When I was a kid, I remember two things that really seemed to define our offense (option aside): 1. A dominant offensive line and 2. Great depth of studs at running back. No matter what, we always had another "horse" ready to go. I see those same elements coming back with the talent we now have at running back and the monsters we are recruiting for o-line. Now add a dependable passing game... WOW! I think this is going to be a special and memorable year in Husker Football. GBR
  3. My kid is in algebra 1 in Jr. High and his teacher is a complete knucklehead....hmmmmm, go figure. Here's the bottom line: the coaches realize that a HUGE reason for some of our losses last season was due to poor play at the quarterback position. Therefore, it is CRITICAL to make sure that problem is corrected immediately! Based on what they know of all the quarterbacks, they obviously feel that Taylor has the best opportunity to COMPETE for the job. BC said from day 1 that the success of the offense is dependent on quarterback play. Who knows, JD may rise to the occassion, but until you have a side by side comparison, you don't know. The coaches have to have a starting point. We would have seen the same thing between JD and Jordan had it not been for Jordan going down.
  4. Gee, uh, I dunno, maybe JD is being pushed out the door, as was Stuntz. Stuntz was regarded as the best passer of the whords of qbs that are on the roster, while JD is the returning starter, yet I heard cally say that Taylor will share 1st team duties w/ JD, even though he has never taken a snap at NU,\ and hasnt played major college fb in a couple of years. If that doesnt tell you that JD is being pushed aside, then you need a reality check. Obviously football intelligence is not a prerequisit for posting here!
  5. The perfect scenario would be for him to get drafted by the Raiders, get his ass kicked in practice, and then get cut!
  6. Make a name for himself??? First of all, let the kid sign his LOI first. Hmmm a great linebacker recruit frrom Oklahoma that COMMITS to our program vs. a pissed off coach that could care less about Nebraska. Hey in case the Pelini lovers haven't heard, HE COACHES FOR OKLAHOMA! If you love him so much, go buy some sooner gear and get the F*%k out, This Pelini crap is out of control. But I can see why; hell, look what a fine job his secondary did in the Orange bowl. I am sorry, but I am sick of reading things that suggest BP can do no wrong. This is ridiculous!!!
  7. You know, I have an 87 year old aunt in Lincoln that still goes to ALL the home games and many away games. I remember for years (back in the day) her writing to my dad and telling him how T.O. was terrible and needed to pass more and yes even should be replaced. Of course this was before his first NC. Now, the point I am trying to make is that she didn't have internet, there were no message boards. The media and communication regarding how fans felt about coaching was very limited and miniscule in the National fish bowl. Now we can see and read what people think and feel all over the world without the editing of a newspaper, etc. I am willing to bet that the amount of split opinions about BC is not much more than it was for T.O. at one time, it just has a lot more exposure, IMHO.
  8. I saw most of the game and I liked what I saw from Beck. Overall I thought he played the best of all the QBs (from both teams). Beck didn't have a td, but did throw a fade for a 2 pt conversion. He showed good arm strength, but what impressed me was his poise, efficiency, and management of the offense. Most of the pass plays called were short quick hitters. He was impressive on one play where he had to scramble away from pressure, avoiding two guys and still was able to set up and throw a strike down field for the completion. As far as the pick, it was obvious that he thought the receiver was going to break inside, but didn't. You have to keep in mind that these kids have been together a short time. On one broken running play, he wasted no time tucking and running, only to be run down by Rey Maualuga who is one very impressive at linebacker. I also liked that Beck wasn't afraid to go hard on the QB sneak twice. The first time he took a very hard shot but it didn't seem to phase him. He just seemed to be in control of the offense and made good, quick decisions. As far as Picou, I was not impressed as he didn't seem to have quick feet. He was going against a 275 lb tackle that actually did a back flip after making a sack (now that's impressive). I just hope Wags can mold him. All in all, Beck was solid, Picou was so,so, and I only wish we could have got Maualuga (sp).
  9. It would be interesting to know about players (if any) that quit when Stoops became head coach at Oklahoma. Yes, it makes me wonder some, but it also seems to be quite a contrast to recruiting and what other players have been saying. Maybe we are losing only those that can't compete.
  10. I thought it was interesting, when asked about how his offense will fit with the personel at Fl., he replied "there is no set offense, the offense is adjusted to the players we have..." Considering that this has been one of the main topics of discussion and disagreement, it should be interesting to see how he does and how quickly, as compared to BC. However, he did also praise the recruiting of Zook, so that maybe a bit of a twist. It will be something to watch for sure.
  11. Sorry guys, I should have read further, I just saw the OWH article that said they asked his permission...very cool. That's what happens when you go away for a couple days - sorry! By the way, did you hear TG resigned? (Kidding)
  12. QB - Zac Taylor???? I am curious, wasn't it reported that Callahan made a commitment to Beck that he wouldn't recruit any other QB's. I don't know the details of the conversation between BC and Beck, but I would be concerned if Beck views this as dishonest. Not trying to be negative, but if that was the agreement then I would hope there would be dialogue with Beck before going after another QB. No matter who the player is, you have to keep credibility.
  13. I don't know if its been done, but wouldn't it be a cool documentary to follow the "recruiting trail" of a college trying to get some kid to commit. It would be interesting to see the process work, how they identify players, what they send them, what they say to them, the official visits. We have a local paper where I live in Cali. that is following certain local recruits. One guy, Averell Spicer, is a big d-line/fullback out here. He visited Neb. and Ok. had him out for the Ok - Neb. game. Basically is taking his time doing a full evaluation before he commits. He said Neb. was at his house already, followed by Fl. st. He seems to be leaning toward USC or Fl ST.
  14. What does it mean when a recruit decides to do this? It means he's a young kid with a lot of outside influences. A lot of competition will make a strong run at our top "verbals". Look what happened with Murtha; he saw something he didn't like and switched in a heart beat. I am sure the recruiting process especially with the "verbal commitment" is one big game. Hopefully those who have verballed are of solid character and believe in following through and hopefully they don't all of a sudden see something they don't like.
  15. Gee, poor Callahan has never had any talent on his teams has he? Well at least he's a great recruiter. Just wait til next year...I mean two years from now...I mean just wait 4 years and we'll be awesome because BC will finally have a good team to coach and show the world just how great he can be when he doesn't have these horrible teams dragging him down. lol exactly. Last year I watched the Raiders play KC (Monday night game). I watched BC orchestrate plays with a 2nd string qb (Tuiasasopo) that put the Raiders in position to win late in the game. I believe the game was tied when the Raiders forced KC to punt (to Buchanon I believe), only to make the STUPID mistake of fumbling the punt (due to coaching I'm sure). KC got the ball back and scored. With time running out, BC and his 2nd string qb managed to call a series of plays (2 minute drill) that took them down the field once again with a chance to score to tie the game. But wait, what happened? Tuiasasopo went to the veteran, the heisman winner, the captain, the pro bowler, Tim Brown who of course knows that he should run his route INTO the ENDZONE...RIGHT? OOOPS, a foot short! Tim Brown didn't get into the end zone...now that's DUMB! No wait, I am sure BC said "Tim, this is our last chance, so run your route just short of the goal line". Now, realize that later in the season BC also lost his 2nd string qb to injury leaving him with 3rd stringer Rick MIRER, boy there's some talent there, how can any coach not win with Rick freakin Mirer. With that, don't misunderstand, for me, the jury is still out on Callahan, but to say he "sucks" based on one year (especially this year) or based on what happened to the Raiders the year prior, is not right, nor is it fair. I say F*%k Tim Brown for criticizing his coach when he himself didn't get it done! But hey, they still suck, but at least they are playing with more desire and don't want to quit this year! What a bunch of horse sh*t.
  16. How we looking at the full back position though?
  17. I am watching the Raiders vs Broncos, and a Raider linebacker goes into Jake Plumber with a forearm as Jake is sliding. I think it was Theisman who refers to the Raiders as "the team that leads the league in STUPID penalties". Damn, where I have I heard that before? Let me see, the Raiders have a new coach and they are still STUPID. At least BC had the cajones to call it was. I respect a man who can speak the truth if there is a camera in front of him or not. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting.
  18. Not only Frankie but Pelini as well. Funny, I haven't seen or heard his name at all; go figure.
  19. As a head coach, yes. To make any comparisons (College vs Pro) is ridiculous. I am sick of hearing about what happened in Oakland. What are the "stupid" raiders doing this year under Norv? Zero, nada, nothing, zilch.... Look what Spurrier didn't do in the pros, Erickson with the 49ers did great at Oregon St., so what happened with the 49ers? Some coaches have got to find the system they work best in. At this point none of us really know what BC will be able to do, but it isn't fair to slam him until he has sufficient time to fully implement "his system". Honestly, there is not enough credible information on Callahan YET, to say if he is the right guy. Neither year in Oakland is an accurate barometer. For us the only accurate barometer will be the next 1 or 2 years max. I don't like waiting either, but I will never be embarrassed . I have to say, I have seen some very bright spots, this year; plays that were open and should have worked with the right execution. Defense that would be 100 times better with an effectve pass rush, etc. I respect every Husker fan's passion and loyalty, but I just feel BC DESERVES a little time!
  20. Strictly hypothetical, when, uh, I mean IF Callahan turns this baby around by next year and we get the wins we all want will you be a fan again? Just curious!
  21. I believe he has had blood clotting problems and the NU medical staff didn't think it was safe for him to play. He thinks otherwise. I read that in the article Blackshirt posted in the news and headlines forum. I wonder what his family thinks? Kind of sounds like Boobie Miles in the movie Friday night lights. I am sure if he is a decent lineman the coaches would want him to play especially considering the current condition of our O-line.
  22. I believe the suspensions were in order. However, there needs to be a serious crack down on fans thinking that their ticket buys them the right to do or say what they want. Freakin Hillbillies er, uh I mean fans need to know their place and boundaries just like players do. I for one have never understood seats being right on the court in basketball. Why don't you have sideline seats at a football game or first base seats at a baseball game? Answer: Because people can get F%*&ing HURT. The point is, yes professional players and coaches should be able to show restraint, but they are also human and should not be provoked either. My son and I went to the Clippers vs Rockets game the day after this incident. We had great seats about the fifth row up from the floor. I was sitting there watching the likes of Elton Brand, Mo Taylor, not to mention 7'6" Yao and I thought, who in there right mind would throw something at one of these guys? The answer 1. someone who needs their pants specially altered in the crotch, 2. A hillbilly, or 3. Someone thinking $$$$ ca-ching. Players in the stands in wrong...fans throwing things at players is equally wrong.
  23. Not sure I was trying to say that Horne411, but judging by some of the posts I read you are absolutely right! In fact many aren't even god's gift to Nebraska!
  24. NBA commish laying out some heavy suspensions...Artest is done for the season equating to about $5.5M, Jackson 30 games and O'neal 25. Ben Wallace gets only 6 games.
