  1. Right on Huskrz65....my sentiments exactly! It's good to see some more faith, and KNOWLEDGE about Nebraska Football. GBR....for better or worse!
  2. Hate??? You see, I can't use that word for anyone who played for Nebraska and did his best for Nebraska. Was his best good enough? NO! Did I agree with his "appointment" in the first place? NO! I never liked Solich as the head coach which is part of my point, I STILL SHOWED MY SUPPORT. The Rose Bowl was a fluke thanks to some good luck and LSU beating Tenn. (if I recall correctly). Some of you criticize B.C. for games he should have won, well there were games Frank should have won too. Anyone who knows football realizes that we no longer had the horses i.e. backs and o-line to dominate with the option. Nebraska had to learn how to pass effectifvely. The fake option tight end streak pass was about all we had with an occassional fullback in the flat. When I can tell you what the play (option) is going to be every time we audibled, there is a definite problem with our offense. Frank is a good man and a good Cornhusker, but not a good head coach. I don't like S.P. anymore than you guys and yes he did Frank wrong...so now what? Do we keep crying over that? Are we in such a need for someone to blame that we keep harping on that subject? I hope not. Are Callahan and Co. the right guys for the job? I honestly don't know yet and neither do you! I truely believe that we all have to wait until next year to really have an idea. I guarantee that if we win all the talk of Frank and the option will fade. Until then, we need to support those who are working hard and want the same thing we do. GBR for better or worse!
  3. Damn, I guess we better just quit now! We could forfiet the rest of our games and get ready for next year, yeah that's a great idea. Hey I have an idea, let's shut down everything i.e. message boards, etc. until we are dominant again. This is a little off subject, but it realates -I coach youth football, and I told my boys the other night at practice that if I hear any negative talk I am going to treat it like cancer and CUT IT OUT! Yes, my team is also struggling this year, but we still have an outside chance at making the playoffs. The problem is our last two games are against the two best teams in our league. These kids need to believe that they can win, they need as much positive influence as possible to get their best football, and yes it's going to take my best coaching. Can we do it? I don't know, but we are going to give it one hell of a try! Last week a play went bad and I could hear someone in the stands making a coment about the play calling. What the wannabe coach in the stands doesn't realize is that the QB called the wrong play in the huddle (misread the plays on his wrist band). I have the kind of team that needs next to perfection to win (from both players and coaches) not to mention a few lucky breaks. We won the game but only 6 - 0 when we could have easily won by 3 t.d.'s, but we turned the ball over (pretty ironic huh?) I agree with Dave, all this negative talk makes me want to puke. When I hear "oh wahhhh, we suck, oh wahhhh, we can't win....it makes me question the heart of some husker fans. Some have said NU football has lost it's identity, well I think some fans have questionable identity as well. I realize that message boards are to share individual opinions good and bad, but some opinions are ALWAYS negative. Hopefully there are enough "true" fans that will carry the rest through the bad times into the good times once again. GBR for better or worse!
  4. The change in Husker Nation is more than coaches and schemes. We are in unfamiliar territory and maybe a true test to see if we really are the "greatest fans". It's freakin' easy to be a fan of a winning team, hell, anybody can support a winner. If fan's are dropping, then they are nothing but flippin "wannabes". Face it, many of us have been proud of our knowledge of "Nebraska football", we have known personnel, plays, etc. We don't really know what NU football is, our identity has changed, but our F%#*ing CORE should NEVER CHANGE! Our core is the fans, the pride, the history, and the determination to win, IMO. For years we have won games simply by just showing up (weak schedule), if you deny that than you are kidding yourself. I am a proud fan and have been through good times and bad. Now we need more fans, more than ever. If I am a player or a recruit, and I see a sea of red turn into let's say a lake of red, then yes we are done! I whole heartedly agree with eric. We can't change it right now, so pull up those pampers, quit your whinning, and support our team. Remember, once the pulse is gone, it's dead - WE ARE THE PULSE! Let's encourage and inspire OUR team like never before! GBR!!!
  5. I have been pretty quiet for a while just kind of watching to see what will happen. I don't think I am any greater a fan than any of you, but I do believe I am the greatest NU fan in California (I am sure that's debateable). I hope this doesn't get too phylosophical, but that is a possibility as I have just been spongin' all this up for a while. My father and mother were both born and raised in Neb. with my dad living only a few blocks from the stadium. I was born a Cornhusker fan and didn't even know it until I was about 12 (28 years ago) as I slammed the arm rest of the recliner in disgust as I watched Nebraska loose to Oklahoma (1976). Wearing my "Cornhusker" shirts to school only drew jeers and jokes from friends that followed the obvious teams - Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, etc. and always trying to come up with some cool answer to the question "what's a Cornhusker"? True to my bloodline I never waivered despite year after year of disappointment which included losing games we should have won and of course not winning the big games. Year after year I had to try to answer the other question "What happened to your Cornhuskers"? It was frustrating to say the least, but my faith and commitment never waivered. Being a Nebraska fan has felt like the brink of insanity. One brutal year I watched Billy Simms and the wishbone tear off 10 yards a shot as we had seemingly no answer. As soon as we slowed down the run they beat us with the pass (usually the tight end). When the teams from the south joined forces to make us the Big 12 I knew there would be difficult days ahead, but I also believed if you are going to be the best you have to play the best. For many years I watched us get close and I too, ignorantly, wanted T.O. OUT, thinking this would be a quick solution to my pain. The joy of beating Miami in 94 and squawshing Florida in 95 made it all worth it. All of those 18 years had been justified. Today I find myself in familiar territory with the Cornhuskers of 2004! It seems what goes around comes around. I have the same pain and frustration, but being older now I think I process it a little better. My father (God rest his soul) saw more NU football than any of us in his 82 years of life. He used to always say, and I agreed, Nebraska has 3 major problems: 1) No pass defense, 2) No pass offense, and 3) Too many turn overs i.e. fumbles. Deja F@%*ing Vu! I have heard people talk about the t.o.'s, but do you remember when Crouch and Alexander had a "pitch" problem? It was discussed on National T.V. that they even utilized a psychologist to try to help the fumble problem. Did we stop pitching the ball because of this? - No! As far as pass defense, it wasn't until we got Mike and Ralph Brown that we did pretty good in our pass coverage. Last year had all the elements, but which included Demorio Williams which is a huge factor that we don't have today. Offenses had to specifically strategize against his quickness and speed. And yes I believe B.P. was able to squeeze the very best out of this group. He had them playing over their heads and ours IMHO. I believe he had it easier than Cos as anything was better than what Bohl did. I think the very best this defense could do would be maintain what last year did and even that would be a challenge. I would have preferred to have B.P. as the DC, but that wasn't going to happen even if it was offered to him - we can't look back. As far as passing, it is evident that we are better than before, but it too (like the pitch in the option) has its turn over potential. We will continue to improve, and continue to recruit the personnel needed to have success. Wouldn't it be great to be dominant in both running and passing? As far as our HC, only time will tell if BC is the right guy. Right now all we can do is trust and hope; but he deserves time just as we gave to those before him. It is difficult, because we all want instant gratification, but that is not going to happen. Hopefully this year we will have moments that we can build on; let's start with a win Saturday. And wouldn't it be great if we did beat Oklahoma? Yes I know it isn't likely, but I am a fan that believes every time my team takes the field they can win, and I will always believe that. I have no doubt that we will be a dominant program again (hopefully less than 18 years), simply because of one constant - THE FANS and the pride that is bigger than any one player, or any one coach! Big Red Football will be dominant again, becuase it HAS to! Keep the faith! Go Big Red!
  6. I would hate to see him leave because he has showed a lot of promise as a freshman and I think that the right person could get him motivated enough to bring that back out of him. No disrespect guys, but I keep hearing a common theme in some posts about how we can motivate players Personnally I can't believe what I am hearing. If a football player at any level, but especially at NEBRASKA, needs someone else to motivate them, they need to find a new team and probably a new sport if any sport at all. Some of these freakin primadonnas that give up when they see a little competition is a bunch of bull. As far as I am concerned if you don't have the heart to face a little competition within your team, you do not deserve to be in a Husker uniform. IMHO.
  7. For what it's worth, I heard an interview of a guy (sorry can't remember his name) who has written a book about the college football experience. He "hung" out with some D-1 teams like LSU to get an inside look. He stated that half time doesn't really have any emotion. The players break off with their position coaches and go over ah-hem, dare I say "adjustments". The atmosphere is really business like. Maybe there should be some emotion, that is one thing that used to get to me about T.O. who rarely showed any emotion, but it obviously worked for him in the long run. However, I have to believe that BO must have been pretty animated in the locker room at times. It's all about "chemistry", I think BO probably had more of a "fellow teamate" relationship with this "D" and Coz has more of a "father figure" relationship, but I don't think it should matter. IMO if you are NEBRASKA CORNHUSKER FOOTBALL PLAYER and you NEED your coach to get you "fired up", your playing the wrong sport for the wrong team!
  8. Hey Guys is it just me or is every one really striving to get better and constantly working to improve. Everything I read and hear from the players is "yeah, I am getting better and learning more, BUT there is a lot more work to do...". It also seems to start with their current offensive leader, J.D. The work ethic and attitude is better than I have ever seen it. I feel something special happening here, a new era and a new attitude. Do you agree? Also, I am surprised I haven't heard much from anyone here on the spring game. I've read a lot but not many comments other than the size of the crowd...wuz up? I know we passed 49 times, but it seems that was more of a demonstration and also working on the area that needs the most work. It also sounds like all the "skill players" are excited about the offense which is a very good sign.
  9. I think both Nutt and Pederson are manipulating the truth to a certain extent. All I know though, is I am very glad that it didn't work out with him. It would have been like if Osborne would have went to Colorado when he had the chance. It just wouldn't be right. Nutt is a "home grown" Arkansa boy and I don't think he's that good of a coach. Not to mention, all I could think about was the rest of the nation calling us "Corn Nutts".
  10. Question Redout... were Wistrom and Alberts Big 8? I completely agree though that Rozier got screwed (Hello, uh Heisman). Also getting screwed were Roger Craig and Tom Rathman. Also, Bos and probably many more OU players need an asterisk next to their name with a note on the bottom *JUICED.
  11. I mean no disrespect rocky as you have always been very cool in this board. HOWEVER, I am an old school guy who knows the "pre-big 12" rivalry all too well. I am a true NU fan and also a football coach, so I always believe my team will win. Are the odds against us... you better believe it! But I always believe we will win, and if I had to pick one game that I would want NU to win all season, it would be against OU. You are right though, it seems we are still building our engine while OU is simply tuning up theirs. It will be tough, but anything is possible and that's why we play the game. Also, I could be wrong but I think we are in Norman this year. Thanks for the good input.
  12. Unfortunately, there is a business side of college football. I have to wonder why Pelini wasn't put on a 1 year contract? Maybe he only agreed to a 3 year contract. Let me put a POSITIVE twist on this... Did our defense gain anything from Pelini that they will use in the future? And how sweet will it be when we beat OU knowing we are still paying Pelini. Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of S.P., but the fact remains (if we must) that Pelini would have only stayed if he was hired as head coach. I doubt seriously that he would have stayed even if he were offered the the D.C. job and more money. The bottom line is that he is a Sooner now and I want to beat his Ass just like all the other Sooners.
  13. Is this only for coaches within the state? I would love to attend something like that. We have similar clinics here in Cali. I attended one at USC a couple of years ago. I don't care for USC, but PC was really a great host and I learned a lot. If there is a place I can get info., please share. Thanks! ps. It seems BC really has an organized plan and is working it. I am impressed.
  14. Okay wyo everybody has heard enough nonsense. You can say all you want about me and California, that doesn't bother me one bit...but you really don't need to talk sh*t about our beloved Huskers. Don't be hatin cuz we here are faithful and true fans with something you only dream of - CLASS! Now go back to your trailer park like a good little boy and shut the f**k up before I pretend you are a Mizzou fan. Hopefully you get it if yer not t, t, too, st, stu, stu, stupid! ps. Say what you will, but I have respect for this site and the good people who created it. Therefore, say all you want but I'm not going to use it for a pissin match.
  15. Wyo you remind me of the time I ran over a oppossum, but when I looked in my rear view mirror it was still twitching. So being concerned about the poor animal suffering, I went back and RAN OVER IT AGAIN! You remind me of that poor stupid creature. Don't go away mad...just go away!
  16. Ol Gary just keeps getting in deeper and deeper. It just goes to show you can't always say what you feel. He publicly ripped Hnida's athletic ability and got his hand slapped by "the man" er, uh I mean "the woman". He is now on administrative leave with pay. He then came back with a prepared statement with his tail between his legs saying that he wanted Hnida to be a part of the program. What a joke, Gary is out of control and obviously lieing through his teeth. How do you go from "she was a terrible kicker" to "I wanted her to be part of the team"? Now we really need to beat the buffalo crap out of CU.
  17. Great info LSU, man this would be another huge pick up for us. This guy sounds like he is ready to go to work and earn a spot....very cool.
  18. This is truely a new era and unchartered territory for us true fans. It is definitely out in the open that Cos and Norvell have head coaching aspirations. Even our own Gill has made it clear that he is leaving his "options open". Hopefully, any future changes are slow and few. We have to HOPE that these guys are all committed to getting us back to greatness. There are a lot of factors that family men go through when making a career move that will affect their family. Most of these guys have young kids that probably would like stay around awhile, especially after they make friends. Busch seems like a guy who has gone to his football heaven and may be a good candidate for Def. coord. if Cos ever leaves. Gill will be learning the new offense and may get back to Off. coord if Norvell ever left. Blake and Elmassion are toss ups. However, I think we have some pretty good balance over all and although it maybe inevitable that we lose guys over time we could keep a good nucleus. Again, let's realize some things: 1. Pelini would have left for a head coaching opportunity, and who knows may have gone to OK anyway, 2. What if Frank had another tough year like 2002 (7-7)? I have said it before, we need to support these guys and show them that they are welcome. Other than that it is simply wait and see.
  19. I have to third that. You gotta know that if this were next year and BC had just come off a 10 win season or a run at the Big12 championship, the roof would have come off the place. BC and co. will not get all the love until he puts up "wins" for right now the only oppinions that matter are that of the players and Ruud said "it was cool to see". Give them a chance; hell, if we want guys to "stick around" then maybe we should give them a chance and make them feel welcome.
  20. NorCal LB who had a verbal from Frank really wanted to be a Husker. His stats sound great, so I am curious why we passed on him. He seems to have good credentials although only a two star and not rated for his position. I hate to see kids who really want to come to Neb. get passed over, but I guess there is a whole lot more that we just don't hear about. It sounds like he'll have a red N "in the cross-hairs" come game day with Kansas. How solid are we at LB? http://www.kusports.com/news/football/story/109467
  21. I like the "mix" of coaches. I think we have incredible coaching talent, now let's see if they can all work together. I am hoping to eventually hear from some of the players and am curious to find out how they respond to these guys. If these guys can all work together i.e. Cosgrove, Blake, Busch and Elmassian I think we'll do well. Obviously Callahan, Norvell, and Jordan have history together, and I hope Gill, Downing, and Wagner fill in nicely. Let's pray for great teamwork. It sounds like this group has a great attitude and work ethic...hopefully the players will respond favorably, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Let's rock and roll baby!
  22. I completely agree. There is no one player above the team, especially Richie! So far his negative contributions out weigh his positive contributions. Off the field he is obviously a distraction. As a player I would not want to have to depend on a guy that may not be there because he's in jail or something. Guys in the trenches have to be able to depend on one another. On the field, let's face it, Richie is a personal foul waiting to happen...EVERY PLAY! Damn can you imagine him and Bo together, what a powder keg that would be. We all talk about "what Nebraska Football is all about". Well I grew up believing Nebraska Football was about class, tough but not dirty. My feeling is that if you are fortunate enough to be a Nebraska Football player, then you must live up to the standards set by those before you. If our success depends on this one knucklehead, then we are in big trouble fellas. I want to win more than most, but not at the expense of our character! People say NU fans are the greatest fans in ALL SPORTS because of the way we conduct ourselves (for the most part), well what if we started acting like RAIDER FANS! Think about it!
  23. I have to believe that Callahan and Wagner will put him in his place real soon. BC has seen this kind of crap in the NFL and is probably thinking enough is enough. I'm sure he's been given info on Richie coming in and is going to let him know two things, who runs the program and where the door is.
  24. I for one think it will be superior to last years. I believe for one that the line will be coached much better and I think the boys are going to put out a little more knowing that the coaches are looking at everyone equally. I think our RBs will push one another to the next level. Finally, based on the organization and work ethic BC has shown so far, I think it will definitely go to the next level. I think our "red zone" problems will diminish b/c we'll be less predictable. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but that's what I think we'll see.
  25. Man I really like this kids' attitude. You know, I like the idea of things being competetive. You don't won't a guy coming in over confident, thinking he's guaranteed a spot. I think JD will do well.
