Interesting that so many NU fans are in love with Minnesota's power football offense, but Mr. Row The Boat still canned his OC after this year.

With all the big egos in the coaching industry, I wonder how many assistant coaches get let go just because it's not a good fit (i.e. the head coach just doesn't like working with them).  I only have to watch the little prick on TV, but I couldn't imagine working with PJ Fleck every day.

So how does Korn differ schematically from a Frost/Lubick/Helfrich?

IIRC, Frost and some offensive staff went to CCU during the off-season to learn more about their offense and incorporate more of it to ours. So, while not the same, I think there are some similarities. Also, if I'm remembering this right, that may explain the potential interest.

Does anyone else remember hearing this?

  3. I spent some time thinking about this question, and I think my initial anger about the result of the Iowa game was somewhat misplaced. Mostly, what really gets me mad is what seems like willing ignorance of Scott Frost. Based on his press conferences, my impression is that he refuses to learn from mistakes. Simply jettisoning some assistant coaches after the plane has already crashed into the ground seems "too little, too late" to me. If he actually had learned from mistakes I think he would have taken those actions sooner. Some of the things he says in press conferences are pretty alarming. He truly comes across as though he doesn't have any answers, other than to say "we're close" and take very little accountability for the results of the past 4 years.

Continuing to say those things, take almost no responsibility for the state of the program, and making no changes to the way he runs things...those are the things that make me mad. The only thing that gives me reason to hope, is the possibility of hiring new assistant coaches who can make meaningful changes. BUT, again, this comes back to Frost making changes to his way of running the program and starting to take responsibility, which seems unlikely. So, until proven otherwise, I'm expecting much more of the same.

I would vote FOR keeping Frost next year, if I voted in that poll.

It's strictly economics, though. I don't think he's magically going to fix any of this. Four years isn't a fluke, it's a trend.

But we're off the hook for $12 million for Frost because Trev kept him another year. I'd much rather that money goes to the new football facility than putting Frost's great grandchildren through college.

What I'm pushing back on is the idea that there are enough Frost supporters who actually think he's the solution to our football problem on this board to warrant calling them out.

I agree with everything you said. I was just expanding on the post from a different perspective. Also, I think there's a decent amount of the fanbase that does support Frost. But, Albert's may have played this so well that money will be saved and most of those supporters will want him gone if/when he has another losing season.

Or, we'll all get what we want...a winning program.

The question was being asked on HB.  Not Twitter.  That's the issue.

Because there's absolutely no crossover, right? I get what you're saying. It stands to reason, however, that with 75% approval, there would be some crossover. Wouldn't you agree?

    Rabble, rabble, rabble. I'm mad.

Seriously, you not gonna watch Nebraska play football next season? Not gonna buy that tshirt you normally would if they were better? What you gonna do?... See ya next year.

Your point is understood, and not really inaccurate. But, if you're upset that people are angry about this program being a perpetual dumpster, perhaps message boards aren't for you. I may be wrong, but I'm fairly sure that's a large reason these things even exist.

That's the correct person to blame, not imaginary Scott Frost supporters here on HuskerBoard.

I have no issue with you, or what you're saying. But, when Twitter polls showed 75% support for keeping Frost, I don't think it's necessarily imaginary. I'm guessing that's where the frustration is aimed.

We had three timeouts left…great coaches who have a killer instinct would use them and go down the field and at least try to increase the lead. Frost cannot believe he has the lead so he settles. He lacks the killer instinct to go out there and steal wins rather than hope for them.

You watched the Illinois game, right?

Who is going to donate the 20,000,000 in guaranteed salary.

I look at this from a different angle.  The athletic department is already going to the well, trying to figure out how to prop this sellout streak up with all the "red carpet" and BOGO stuff.  If Frost is retained for another year, and the team isn't trending in a winning direction (i.e. 6-6 or 5-7 while winning the last two games), how can this athletic department overcome the lost revenue when the stadium is half full next year?

Trev, Ronnie, and Ted may decide to bring him back.  But, it seems like one hell of a gamble because if the team continues to lose to the "lesser" B1G west teams (hard to call any team in the west a "lesser" team, I know...which is its own kind of sad) Memorial Stadium is going to be next to impossible to fill.  In my opinion, the lost revenue from another crappy season, just like the last four years, is going to far outweigh the $20 million for his buyout.

The O line is frustrating. I rewatched the offense. They have a lot of plays where they looked good. Then, they have plays where the whole group looks horrible.

I think the talent is there. They just have to get a better coach

    GOOD

    - Martinez balled out.  Maybe the best game of his career given the circumstance

    - The Defense played well; we really needed an earlier stop on OU's last drive.

    - Linebackers played particularly well today.  Good pass coverage from the secondary

    -  Rahmir was a bright spot.  Absolutely GREAT to see Betts and Manning.  Screw practice...these guys are gamers.

    BAD

    - Our Special Teams is the worst collective group I have ever seen in college.  Not just NU's worst...the worst of any program I have ever watched.

    - Greg Austin is a complete bum.  He cannot coach and our O Line was pretty poor at picking up any type of stunt or blitz

    - Our one minute offense is bad.  Like we were shocked to have a chance to tie it...and threw up on ourselves.

    - Losing Ervin...I hope the kid gets well soon.

Overall I'm proud of the team.  We HAVE TO beat MSU to legitimize this performance today.

Can't agree more on the Austin front. Every game seems, more and more, to show how bad he is at getting his guys prepped.

-If Austin didn't have two guys drafted last year, I'd say 'leave his fat a$$ in Norman.'

-Piper cost us yet again. Him getting bulldozed on that extra point turned the tide is the game, and reflects his play all year.

-Culp mentally may never recover from this.

-THE DEFENSE HAS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF!!!??

-Also, if Rahmir is your guy, why hasn't he started all year?

Don't let those 2 being drafted stop you. I'm convinced they got drafted in spite of their inept coaching.

  14. I don't think my opinion on Frost's job status is relevant (i.e. Trev's gonna do what Trev wants/needs to do).

I will say that, if we don't make a bowl game this year, I think the only way Frost is able to continue as our head coach is if he makes some significant changes to his staff.  We've seen this buy other coaches one more year to attempt to right the ship.  I'm pretty convinced that he's too loyal to make the changes he probably should make, tho.  Those changes would be, almost exclusively, on the offensive side of the ball.

But .. but ... but ... the media is just doing their jobs.  Simply reporting on what is said.

I haven't read any of the articles put out after today's presser.  So I truly don't know how much of it is going on within the Nebraska media right now, but almost any answer could be skewed to fit a narrative without proper context.  I know Sherman gets accused of not giving readers proper context A LOT...and I've kinda questioned his motives a few times, given what he tweets out.  Other than that, though, most of the media I've read (Sam, Sip, Parker, and Christopherson mostly) at least attempt to give context to their quotes.

I do have to say, "If I wanted to tell you, I would" is a pretty childish answer. But part of me really loves it.

I think it could be "childish"....until you hear Sam's question, which was "Do you want to tell us?"  At that point, I think he deserved that answer.

Full disclosure, I like most of Sam's questions/interviews and I think he tends to get coaches to give a little additional info on occasion.  But, he also gets into the "cringe-worthy" line of questioning (for me) at times.  To that end, I'm kinda surprised he doesn't get answers like this more often.

I guess I have to disagree with the logic.

The media isn't the hand that feeds Frost...winning games is what keeps feeding him. If he won the West this year, goes 9-3, and gives Ohio State a good game in Indy he could probably say whatever he wanted in pressers.

Pressers = filling time. But all of the talk is cheap, and what happens on that 120 yard long rectangle on Saturdays is really the only thing that matters, in my opinion.

I believe, @Undone, he was saying that Frost is the one who feeds the media...as in, his answers/statements generate a decent amount of their content.

  18. Just had a chance to watch Frost speak to the media and I think some folks try to read too far into too many things...including media members covering the team.  That last part is probably something to do with the "efficiency" of the press conference.

Honestly, I didn't see or hear anything that was troubling to me.  He wasn't pissed off and yelling, or even anywhere close to it.  He was very succinct with his answers and, to me, may have been trying to set the tone for his team and where he wants their mindset to be - on the game this Saturday.  Entertaining questions from the media related to anything other than Saturday's game only detracts from that mindset.  In the first few answers, he almost seemed like he was holding back a smile....like he knew he was about to "Belichick" this presser.  I can't say that I blame him, especially when everything he says has a tendency to be thrown back in his face.  Perhaps it's just a new strategy. lol

That's just my observation of it.

Where did that quote come from and how old is it?  Also, a recommendation is not a requirement.

In my profession (governmental auditing), standards use the words "must" or "should" which have slightly different definitions.

    "Must" = is required/madatory

"Should" = is required in the absence of some specific exceptions

Using that, it would seem to me that the NCAA/Conference is leaving open the possibility of exceptions to the rule.

I don't think they've said anything for sure but he looked to be playing CB in some of the videos the team has released.  I've seen a non-media report that he's right in there to start at the other CB opposite CTB.

Thanks @MavricThat's the impression I had from the videos as well. Just wondering since @GretnaHusker14 had him at safeat, which is understandable since the word when he transferred was that he would be more natural at that position.
