  1. A couple of my friends just started this site. Looks like a good wrap-up of Husker News Link Removed By Mods
  2. Ok, hear me out. Bo hasn't signed a contract. Les Miles most likely will be going to Michigan after the title game. His buyout to Michigan is unchanged by his extension. Jimbo Fisher, the guy most people thought would take over LSU if Les left, is on board to be the FSU coach after Bowden. Could LSU just offer the job to Bo since he hasn't signed a contract yet? it would cost them nothing.
  3. I think he could me the right man for Nebraska. We aren't going to 'out-USC' USC, but if we have an effective football coach who can coach up, play to NE recruiting strengths (getting O-lineman, running the ball) I say let's roll with him. If he's coaching at Navy, I"m sure the vetting process is a lot more thorough than other programs. You're going to get a clean program...kind of reminds me of Dr. Tom
  4. If you google news Paul Johnson Nebraska you'll find some rumblings in Annapolis about this. It seems like it has some legs and it makes sense (option, Navy's high graduation rate).
  5. Wouldn't Gill be named coach already? They can't name Pelini the coach b/c he still has a game left. Gill is done. They are announcing a new coach next week. isn't it obvious?
  6. Mike and Mike suck regardless of what they say about Nebraska. end of story
  7. Good thinking. His contract says he can basically walk from the job for a college coaching job. We would have to cough up some dough. He'll prob run 3 mill. The question we need to ask for any potential coach: Can they beat Bob Stoops? The answer with Petrino: yes
  8. I don't see Monte coming back, but lane would be interesting. Some people think Arkansas is a sleeping giant so it is an attractive job.
  9. Let's be honest: ESPN and the major east coast media doesn't respect Nebraska. We aren't the Yankees, Red Sox, Patriots, or in a big market. They want the biggest story from the biggest market.
  10. Callahan had a harder job than most of us think. Nebraska was not a desirable job in 2003. Well, we have had issues with our players and discipline. I hate to break it to you but some people outside of nebraska have questioned our ethics (steroids and lawerence phillips).
  11. While we are all bored and anxiuos for the new coach at NE, ponder this: Callahan and Nebraska never meshed that well but... Callahan never cheated and Nebraska football failings were just that, football failings. Yes,his personality sucks, but so does Bill Bellichick. I could deal with Bellichick as my football teams coach. We never had any major scandal and while there was damage to Nebraska's football reputation, there were no longstanding damages to the program. Remember, we also had to modernize our offense, which was going to happen anyway if we had a new coach. That cost him some losses and maybe his job, but the hard part is over. There is more talent at Nebraska then there was when he arrived. We just need to find a coach who can maximize the talent and development. Thanks Bill for 4 years, but it's time for both of us to go in a different direction.
  12. From Stewarts Mailbag... 76 points! This is ridiculous. Put on your thinking cap and tell me who the next coach of Nebraska is. --Mike, Fargo, N.D. The two most popular names in Lincoln right now are Turner Gill and Bo Pelini, both because of their coaching accomplishments (Gill is orchestrating an impressive turnaround in his second year at Buffalo; Pelini produces highly regarded defenses annually at LSU) and, just as importantly, because they "know" Nebraska (Gill was a former star quarterback and assistant there; Pelini was a highly successful defensive coordinator for one season under Frank Solich). After such a negative experience with complete outsider Callahan, it's understandable why Nebraskans would clamor for one of their own this time. But with all due respect to Gill and Pelini -- neither of whom has been a head coach at the highest level -- quite frankly, Nebraska can do better. If I were Tom Osborne ... well, I'd be in the Hall of Fame, but that's another story ... I'd hire the best coach for the job, regardless of Nebraska ties. My choice: Cincinnati's Brian Kelly. He's an experienced head coach who's won everywhere he's been (national titles at Grand Valley State, a MAC title at Central Michigan, now leading a Big East title contender at Cincinnati), and his preferred style of offense -- the spread -- would be the most logical way to transition away from Callahan's disastrous West Coast experiment while running a system that fits the personnel on hand. I don't think Nebraska needs to return to the days of the belly-option to be competitive; the spread is a sort of modern-day triple option in the way it can neutralize a more talented opponent, while the athletes Callahan already recruited at running back and receiver would benefit from the scheme greatly. In the meantime, of course, it's painfully evident that whoever the coach is needs to do some serious recruiting on the other side of the ball
  13. Actually, is there anyway Turner Gill could be a OC under Pelini? He only makes 183,000 a year. So you would bring in the guy who would instantly make us better on Defense (not that it can get worst) and bring in Gill to run his hybrid option/WCO/power running game that people are writing about. We can be more than competitve instantly with a new attitude and simplier and more creative offense. Plus, we would get the feeling back.
