  1. Whoops. Make that Kansas. (I'm still having trouble accepting K.U. as the #4 team in the nation.)
  2. Amen to that! Go to the Vikings or Bears or someplace. Is there someway that we can steer all of these angry souls to a single "I Hate Callahan/Cosgrove/Rose" thread? It's getting really old seeing the same old craptrap repeated endlessly on here. I'd like to see some actual football discussion on here . . . for example, have any of you watched the game films from K-State? Did you notice anything in the defensive backfield in the second half? You know, stuff like that.
  3. Beano Cook could be the new D.C. which makes about as much sense as keeping Clownahan around here for 1 second more than necessary... I've said it before, and I'll repeat it . . . the players are the only--the ONLY--folks that are on that football field. It may give you simple souls big jollies to personally lash out at a designated coach, but watch the next game CAREFULLY. You will see no coaches on the football field. Those that have played the game at a high level will know exactly what I'm saying. It would be tragic if Osborne's decision was swayed in any manner by the likes of you idiots.
  4. The question was rhetorical. This is my story, and I'm sticking to it.
  5. He's like the 2nd-team quarterback. The most popular guy on any team is the 2nd-team quarterback. Don't you think? The more I think about it, the more I think that Turner Gill might be a good HC . . . if he is accompanied by a great staff.
  6. Do the Huskers even have team captains this year? If so, what is up with that? I have heard nothing from them in these disastrous weeks. Could this be a Solich Senior Mutiny? It is clear that there is an underlying problem with this team that we are not in on. The players that the press talk to seem to really like the coaching staff, so I don't think that it is a question of "losing the players." Watch game film, especially the defense. Tell me what YOU see.
  7. Good lord, never mind. The Huskers suck. There, feel better?
  8. Do they give out free kool-aid at the free mason meetings? Hey, I don't care if Callahan stays or goes at this point. I'm only saying that if you think the coaches are the reason that this team gets creamed regularly, you have never played football. It's actually the players that are getting blasted. Adequate players in even bad schemes can still play; look at the defense. Anything unusual about the scheme that you can see? Looks to be a 4-3-2-2 base to me. Pretty basic, pretty typical. Tell me, I mean it. Specify how the coaches allowed K.U. to score 76 points. It looked to me as if the eleven players on the field didn't perform. Am I wrong? When I played, I didn't give a moment's thought about the coaches.
  9. Okay, let me be the first to say it . . . FIRE TOM OSBORNE!! There, I've broken the seal. Relax . . . he's heard it before many times.
  10. I'm afraid that I am if full agreement, and this is why: (1) Arguably, the demise of the team can be entirely attributed to the defense. There have been games that the offense did not perform, but even that goes back to a shockingly bad defense. This defense has been so bad that it even effected the rhythm of the offense. (2) Attrition of those recruiting classes have been exceptionally high, and that's why the team still starts Solich recruits in 13 of 22 positions. Of the 20 freshment recruited in the 2005 class, only 11 "stuck." The jucos fared even worse. Those were high-risk players that happened to be high performers; they were recruited for instant success, but the dice rolled the wrong way. It didn't work out. (3) If Callahan had it to do over, I'm sure that he would have stuck to more traditional freshmen collegiate recruits instead of jucos and 5-star meteors. The pressure to build quickly was intense, however. (4) Retooling the entire offense used up a huge proportion of the recruits; ergo, not much left for defense--and the last of the Solich recruits aren't much to look at in terms of talent--and especially in terms of team leadership. (5) The players have not developed any strong leaders for whatever reason. (6) The defensive players are just plain bad this year. Next year, however, can be a remarkable turnaround. Teams have done it before. (7) It really is not Callahan's fault . . . the player have to execute. Am I the only one that sees a giant chemistry issue on the field? (8) If Callahan is retained, there will likely be some changes in the coaching staff. (9) Just because Coach Callahan is a disaster in terms of press conferences, doesn't mean he's a bad coach. He just happens to be coaching a bad team.
  11. I've never noticed the linemen lined off the line. They are 3-point stances, helmet just beyond the LOS. Doesn't look unusual. The only unusual thing that I have noticed about the d-linemen is their lack of penetation, and I don't know what that's all about.
  12. Complain all you want about the coaches, but they weren't on the field. There were actually some football players involved.
  13. That's not exactly true. I just heard on 1620 tonight that 13 of 22 starters are Solich recruits. I'm just sayin' . . .
  14. I'm afraid not. I've supported the coaches all along, but I just can't take this anymore. A change is inevitable, and the sooner the better. Give it a day you'll change your mind and tell everyone that this staff should be given another year to make their system work. That's quite possible.
  15. It doesn't have anything to do with offensive scheme. It has everything to do with players and execution. Any offense will work with the right players that execute. Having said that, I still think that the enduring offense more closely resembles the power-I set. Years from now, that set will still be run. Just gets some 350-lb. o-linemen and go. NU's whole problem this year is that they have lost their mojo. They need to get their mojo back. When they find it again, they will be just fine. Don't bag on the players and coaches too much. Losing your mojo is a terrible thing, and it can happen to anyone. They will get it back, though. This weekend. Against KU. My prediction: NU 45, KU 10.
  16. I have been wondering about this for some time. Can the defensive line personnel actually be that bad? Has this been an area in recruiting that has been neglected? I don't understand how a major D1 program like NU can be dead last in rushing defense. I also don't understand how any D1 defensive coordinator--or staff--can be that bad. What exactly explains the ineffectiveness of NU's defense? I'm looking for an answer that doesn't sound like "Coz sucks," because that doesn't actually explain the specifics. If anyone can answer this, I'd really appreciate it. The whole thing is just plain bizarre.
  17. I'm afraid not. I've supported the coaches all along, but I just can't take this anymore. A change is inevitable, and the sooner the better.
  18. I have lost all respect for Husker fans. They will drive whatever happens to this team over the next few years.
  19. if you can continue to support THESE coaches then you have the patience of a saint! Coz especially, is a disaster and cally is obsessed with making the sytem harder to run/understand than it needs to be. i disagree, this is no fluke, this is a coaching nightmare, period. Yes, I do have a lot of patience. And I think that is absolutely necessary for long term success. If you're looking for immediate success, you have a 90% chance of immediate disappointment. The odds of long term success are substantially higher.
  20. Since it is an away game, I give the Huskers a darned good chance of an upset. They learned yesterday that they can play good football, despite what the adolescent Nebraska media and the childlike NU fan base has been telling them. Playing away from Lincoln is the best thing that can happen for this team. Lincoln's fans are a sad lot of pethetic losers that live vicariously through a football team. They need lives. Tom Shatel is a tool. I hope nobody on this NU team has the misfortune to read his OWH columns. He's never been an athlete, and has enough trouble just talking without stuttering. I'll always support this team, win or lose. If Callahan stays, that's great . . . it's the best chance NU has of regaining strength. If another coach comes in, that's fine too, and I will still support the team . . . although I don't think that we will see another conference championship in the next decade.
  21. Isn't it a little early to start dissing the next NU quarterback? At least let him play a game first.
  22. The QB observation is enormous. You need to remember that there were two QB's that would have fit the billing that ended up elsewhere . . . Freeman (paying for his bad decision by facing two more years at KSU) and Harrison Beck, a kid that was the victim of his mom's tantrum, transferred and regretted it the very next week. NU coaches are guilty of trying to win NOW by filling in with JC transfers. I understand the imperitive to win NOW, but NU has not had a single 4-year commitment at QB for 3 years. That hurts terribly. Although Keller is a fine QB, he doesn't fit in well as a college QB running the WCO. He is relatively immobile and checks away from downfield recievers too quickly. Having said that, he is probably the best we had at the position this year. I agree with Taylor; this season is a fluke. I have believed that all along. The coaches will fix it given the opportunity, but they really need a LOT more time. It's not a year-by-year thing. How in the world did Joe Pa ever survive HIS 4-7 season? This team and its coaches would greatly benefit from good fan support. Many of them have felt as if they have been under a bus since their arrival. I hope the current coaching staff remains and gets a vote of confidence from Osborne. If that doesn't happen, we may not see another bowl game for a decade or more.
  23. Osborne needs to be active on this. He needs to either (a) announce that Callahan has his full support, and will remain as NU head coach, or (B) announce that Callahan will "resign" at season's end. He has to do something, though, because the rumors are killing this program and hurting the players. He can't just be satisfied being a figurehead.
