  1. Like I said . . . a real, sharp boycott is essential. Otherwise, the bread just keeps getting buttered in Lincoln; good ole' boys playing golf, having lunch, and exchanging cash and winks. What a sad end to a once-great program. I hope that UNO goes to Division I soon.
  2. Chase Daniel? He's good, but not great. It's just that every team that Nebraska plays seems to have a Heismann Trophy candidate by the time they've finishes with us. That has more to do with the poverty of the Nebraska program than anything else. I've never, ever seen a defense suck so bad as the Pinkshirts.
  3. There will be no changes made. You seem to forget that Nebraska is a conservative state. Changes will only be made when Those With Influence allow it to happen.
  4. You may be right, but--in any case--our passing strategy seems pretty ineffective. Maybe it's just the WCO, I don't know. It does seem, however, that every team that NU plays gets more bang for the buck from their QB's performances than we do from Keller, even if Keller does have better stats. Do you know what I'm saying?
  5. Callahan's Cornhuskers make every opponent look like national champs. They're not, though, and that's the sad fact of it. Look at how our previous opponents have fared. They're just not that good. I feel the same way about Missouri. I'm not convinced that they are really that good, and they will probably lose big time next week to OU. It's just that NU is really THAT BAD.
  6. Okay, I'm the first to say that I was a big Callahan supporter. That is a thing of the past, for reasons that I will detail later. But, speaking of Keller; last night, my wife began complaining about how Keller just doesn't get rid of the football in decent time. She said that he stands around looking too long. Being the household football expert, I chastised her, telling her that there obviously were no receivers open down field, and that's why he had to dump off all of those 3,4, and 5 yard passes. And then I started thinking . . . Why is Nebraska the only major football program that doesn't seem to have open receivers down field? Heck, every other team we play have open receivers on fairly deep patterns. We don't, at least if you watch Keller. Ball State can do it. Iowa State can do it. Wake Forest can do it. But, for some reason, NU cannot. Is it possible that Keller is more interested in padding his completion stats than winning games for NU? How many times have you seen him dump off a 2-3 yard completion on 3rd and long? It seems to be fairly frequent. Maybe it's time that he rode the bench. Maybe that's why Arizona sent him packing. I mean, he has good stats, and the team sucks. Is there a relationship? I, for one, would like to see Ganz or one of the young QB's have a chance. After all, they are the future. Keller is just here to prepare for the pro draft. Trust me, we certainly have nothing to lose. But back to Callahan. Something is going on in that program, and that's for certain. Has anyone heard any rumors? This seems to be a team that is not only on the same page--they don't even seem to have seen the playbook. Is there some sabotage going on there? This team does not even meet the mediocre level, even with all of these so-called great recruting seasons. What is going on? It's a mystery. Maybe these pro coaches don't understand that college players need forced conditioning and skill development. Pro players don't need the motivation, because they do it for money. College players are still at a level that they really need conditioning and skill development. I see poorly conditioned college athletes and a subpar level of skill development when I watch these Huskers. They seem lost and befuddled. Yes, Callahan must go, and he ultimately will. The only question is: How low will the program sink before we can move on?
  7. Don't go. Don't support this vast waste of taxpayer money. Do not empower the idiots at UNL. This is the only way that you can influence the situation. Do not go to this or any other NU game until some problems are publicly acknowledged, at least. Don't be a weenie.
  8. I agree with the boycott. The program has become increasingly elitist anyway; our "public" university has jacked up ticket prices and utilize pay-per-view so much that the average fan can't even think about seeing a game. Cornhusker game attendance has always been a bragging point for those with the cash and connections. Yeah, I would say to boycott it, but it won't happen. You'll still see the legions of old golfers and car salesmen out there anyway. We taxpayers are being ripped off, big time.
  9. As a proud liberal Nebraska Democrat, I say that it's high time that the coaches take some risks. They need to play their talent, even if they are freshman. This team has mold growing on top of the dust.
  10. Holy crapola. I have a very basic question. Where in the f&%k are all of those great recruits that Callahan has acquired? These guys have no hair on their backs.
  11. I have to say that I am rapidly losing my religion with this team. $1.7 million per year. That's not much bang for the buck.
  12. "I will say, however, that there is something going on right now that will shock the Husker Nation if and when it ever becomes public." Oh, that's just great. $1.7 million per year, and you won't tell. Only in Nebraska.
  13. The issue here, insofar as I am concerned, is that we are paying a coach $1.7 million a year. I think that warrants a lot of accountability and disclosure. At that price, we should have excellence and the program absolutely should be under a microscope. I will agree with something, though . . . there is obviously something awry in the program. I don't think that I have ever seen a more disfunctional defense than what I saw last night. If there are rumors or innuendo out there, we have every right to know about it. We are the ones that are paying for this thing, you know.
  14. Well, there was something I saw last night that made me think that we may have had a problem with the fundamental defensive scheme. After watching that debacle, I'm thinking that a 3-4 looks better all the time. Apparently we can't muster 4 good defensive linemen (or offensive linemen, either, but that's another topic). Our stunts and free d-linemen overpenetrated time after time. It seemed that half of our defense ended most plays by standing around in the offensive backfield looking baffled. For a quick team that specializes in misdirection like SC, I would think that you would be wary of overpenetration. Am I wrong? Was the defense just too pumped, and reacting with adrenaline instead of intelligence? The running backs of SC had it made. They ran through a hole, and there was no one left to worry over until they got into the defensive secondary. I thought the defensive secondary looked pretty decent, by the way. Hat's off to number 1. He showed some moxy last night. Grixby may not have the physical attributes, but he plays every play hard and tough. Too bad our LB's aren't made of the same stuff. BTW, is there some secret reason that Ruud continues to play? He's never been up to the task. Is it because of family tradition or something? Is there a relative that is a big contributor to the program? He just has to go.
  15. Yeah. After all, we have a $1.7 million/year coach.
  16. I totally agree. We watched a freshman center of SC totally dominate NU's tackles last night. Apparently it can be done; however, given the dusty, conservative philosophy of NU football, we would have kept that same player on the sideline for the next two years. The O-line and the D-line last night were clearly inept. We would have nothing to lose to put in new talent.
  17. I'm new here, so be kind . . . I've been a supporter of Bill C. since he was hired. My problem with Frank S. was that we knew when we would lose. Frank S.'s game plans brought no surprises, and we would lose fairly predictably to certain teams. Once behind, there was no getting the lead back. I liked the concept of the west coast offense. It provided more versatility and more adaptability to game situations. It should, anyway, that that isn't how it has evolved. Right now, I see that we are paying a head coach $1.7 million per year for a severely mediocre performance. Our bang for the buck must be in the Bottom Ten by now. Let alone the very idea of paying a stupid football coach that much money; he hasn't performed, and in any other industry (and NU football is certainly part of an industry), he would have been fired. And, as I said, I supported him up until yesterday. We have been hearing about the fine recruits that he has brought to NU. Uh, WHERE ARE THEY? I still see too many Ruuds and such. Where is the talent? Although Coz and his staff are obviously doing a poor job of outright coaching, you would think that talented players would have had the initiative to step up to the task occasionally, even sans coaching. That never happened last night. Are NU players (especially defense) really that inept? Can our offensive line actually be that bad? Where are the new recruits? And don't give me that stuff about "learning the system." SC played a freshman at center last night, and he ate our lunch for us. Our O-line is SO BAD that we can't even really make an honest assessment of our running backs. I don't know if they're good or medicre, since they really don't get a shot at running the ball. Same with the QB; he was hurried on virtually every passing play. That NU team last night was solidly mediocre, but we have a $1.7 million coach. At that salary, he shouldn't get the benefit of a doubt. He should show performance. Again, where is the NU talent? There, I've had my rant.
