  1. You UCLA guys are all the same... UCLA this, UCLA that... oh, no, wait. Maybe that's another fanbase I have heard... HA! I remember that game. Like many, MANY NU matchups I've seen over the years, it rarely does any good to brag or boast PRIOR to the end of the game (especially if you're some dude standing in a refreshment stand line quoting stats about how your team is gonna do this and your team is gonna do that!). Guess i was raised more 'humble' than that. I have seen my team THUMPED by opponents that were supposed to be a 'breeze'. Recall the South Dakota State Jackrabbits a couple of years ago??? My LORD, we almost LOST that game!!! I recall on ONE of my wedding days, NU vs lowly Iowa State. GEEOWWW! I hope my huskers TROUNCE UCLA, but you won't see me out spouting off about HOW we're gonna do it, I reckon I'll let the players and coaches do that! Good read Bruin dude and good luck. GO BIG RED!
  2. Ok, so who else is gonna be trying to thin the skies of the devil's feathered grey bombs of death on Saturday the 1st WHILE listening to the husker game...? I am being kidnapped Saturday and hauled to Martin SD to try to end the reign of dove terror for that small community. Wish me luck... My kidnapper is a husker fan and understands my need to tune in radio-wise while watching for the gnashing beaks and sharpened talons of our enemy.
  3. Ahhhhhh fer chrissakes...! Lived in the central 'Hills' 1978 to 1982, left for flatter regions at 18. 30 years later and just moved BACK and living in the Northern Hills... Just rode up to Belle Fourche (had never been there) coupla weeks ago. Plan to fly my N flag right off the balcony of my apartment on every gameday... Know about Sioux City only because I was raised just outside Salix, Iowa. Seems to me that there are lots of 'husker fans around no matter WHERE you go...! "It's a husker thing... if I gotta expalin it, you likely wouldn't undertand." GBR!!!
  4. Ok, I was sick. Sick the whole game against the Moc's and sick the first half against the Bulldogs. I have to say tho, do you know how absolutely impressed I was that these huskers of corn were able to ADJUST to this last game, come out in the seconds half and pull out a win??? Hey, we haven't seen a lot of THAT (being able to effectively adjust to a team that is bish-slapping us around on both sides of the ball) and then be able to re-coup a win. I was just like a lot of you; really disheartened with our first 6 quarters of play this year, but it gives me hope to see us come BACK and pull out the win those last two quarters. Fresno State is tough to defend against and has a TON of heart, but the Huskers were able to get their 70's like 'groove-on' and finish. My hat (I rarely wear one) is OFF to this team offensively, special team-ely(?) and defensively...! I thought Coach Beck showed a certain Tom Osborne-like style of understanding the game plan and adjusting to it's rhythm and speed. Coach C. Pelini got it done as well... Our player's strength and conditioning showed up (just like it used to show up in the glory days of the 80's / 90's) and in the second half of the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter. I, for one, say; GO BIG %^&&*@ %^&*ing RED! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-YEAH!!!!!
  5. I think Iowa fans see this as good opportunity. I don't blame them. I gotta tell you, I think they are going to THRASH us this first year. AND no matter what happens, it will be a hard fought game to the end. Because of this, I think it will be as good of a rivalry as CU or OU has been in the past. I love my huskers, I'll root for 'em until my heart goes, but Iowa is better than alot of us are giving them credit for. You watch, they will have a dominant defense and an average but adequate offense. I know my grammer / sentence structure in this post is 'lacking' but I've got to pee and can't...
  6. Holy Lord... here we are. OU. VS. NU. I am SO happy that these monsters-in-training that wear the red have gotten themselves into a clear position to have a chance to win the Big 12 Championship. I am so heart swellingly (and no, I DON'T think that IS a word!) proud of this years team! I think that these kids are CRANKED UP to go out of this conference hitting hard, playing loose and having fun in this game. We are the UNDERDOGS which I LOVE... We HAVE the playmakers, the coaching plan and the dogged determination to get this done. God, my jaws ACHE from gritting them in anticipation of this game. I am CRANKED to play Oklahoma this last time. Can you think of more fitting end??? Now, I'm old, so I remember all those OU - NU games, what it meant, what it DECIDED each year. It was AWESOME back then and it is AWESOME this year. OH MY GOD I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THESE KIDS GET THIS GAME ON!!! go...big...red!
  7. Ok, I've got ANOTHER perspective here and since this is the topic, here's MY two cents. I've only been to ONE GAME in Lincoln. It cost dearly for tickets, expenses, etc. We didn't have a choice in seats, just bought side by side tickets, took what was available. My brother and I are in our 40's. We go. Get there and our seats are on the walkway (so in our section we are the lowest set of seats because our feet are on the aisle, see?) Every big play we jump up scream, act like fans, that's fun, no-one gives us grief. HOWEVER, there is a family (guy in his late 30's, his wife, a brother in-law and his wife (assuming) in the next row of seats below us (so, they are on the TOP ROW of their section. NO ONE who stands in front of them is blocking their view. Ever. However, if THEY stand up, the people on 'our' set of seats CAN'T see anything but their shoulders and heads. There's two older gals (I'm gonna say 60's) next to us. So, one of them asks this 'family' if they could stay seated during regular play so these older gals can see. The gals in the 'family' say, 'sorry' and go to sit down (the family has been standing up blocking our view the ENTIRE third quarter and we weren't exactly THUMPING our opponents in that game). They weren't standing occasionally to cheer, just standing to watch. The GUYS in this family loudly say, "F&^% them" and they STAND THEIR gals UP and tell them to "STAND UP, F*&% them". So, the older gals beside us AND my brother and I don't get to see worth a HOOT the second half of the game. Now, here's the deal. I didn't complain, I didn't kick them in the back of the head to 'clear' my view, BUT I thought it was rude, disrespectful AND unnecessary. They could SEE THE GAME from a sitting position in that TOP TIER row and didn't need to stand. We totally understood if they had jumped up during big plays, that's AWESOME... But to stand up when you can see just fine, and then to do it when you KNOW you're blocking someone's view from behind and you don't NEED to... Well, that's BS in my book. Me, I stay pretty calm. My brother, on the other hand, had he caught those guys outside that stadium would have needed bail and likely an attorney. So, there is an opposite perspective, I ain't no blue hair, I'll still grab another man by the throat in the parking lot, I paid a BUNCHA money to go see a game and I had it screwed up because of some jerks. So, I think the key to all of this IS RESPECT. I think it's GREAT that the student section stands the entire time... Hey, if EVERYONE is standing then most EVERYONE CAN LIKELY SEE, right??? I took my lumps at that game, kind of said, 'well, I paid alot of money that I didn't have for a once in a lifetime chance to see my huskers play live... but life ain't always fair and I got banged a little in the second half'. It ain't the end of the world, but really, would it have been the end of the world for the two water injectors in front of us to sit down during the regular play??? No. Ok, I'm done...
  8. Holy Jammal LORD! THAT was some football...! For those guys to come out THAT well coached and play that hard, play after play after play... Twas a THING O' BEAUTY! We lost our starting QB for half the game and STILL played like that! My hat is off to the coaching staff AND the players!!! CONGRATULATIONS! I'm not even gonna comment on the officiating, it doesn't matter... the guys played THROUGH it and THAT is what good players do. My fists are sore, my legs have been cramping all weekend, I'm STILL hoarse and my jaws and teeth ache... Now THAT IS A SIGN OF NU FOOTBALL PLAY!!! AWESOME sack's on the MU QB, secondary was LIGHTS OUT... Offense held and pushed people around...! Good God! GYEAH! GO BIG %$#*&@^ RED!!!
  9. Niles Paul does NOT hate me! He kind idolizes me I think... Poor kid, here he is, one of THE most electric players on this team and yet A.Henery STEALS HIS THUNDER! I think that Niles Paul is a heckuva player and has the potential to create aneurysms and angina all in ONE MOVE!!! Oh, I hear people scream about his play and I get madder'n a mashed cat when he drops one, BUT I have seen him do some PHENOMENAL playing for this team, so he is STILL on the christmas card list. Yeah, he doesn't hate me, he thinks, "Man, I wish I could be old, slow and play the armchair QB every saturday like get huskin' does". If he saw how far I come BLOWING OUT of that armchair on key drives tho, he'd think TWICE about challenging me on a vertical! There is only ONE PLACE louder than Memorial Stadium on game day and that's my man-cave...
  10. Yeah, I was truly impressed these players didn't let the mistakes get the best of them and then fold. Really shows some maturing and intelligence toward the game. It's easy to get down and then just lose it mentally and hand over a game, but these guys showed some REAL toughness. PLUS, it seemed like the second half was full of adjustments for both teams and we STILL pulled out a win. Pretty impressive stuff I think... Sure, I saw a few pith-poor tackles (missed or worse) out there from our D, but the 'missers' then pulled it back together with their fundamentals training and THAT is the sign of championship football players. I am TRULY impressed with the "GYEAH!" factor that these guys played with. T.Martinez absolutely scared me to unintentional dribbling a couple of times, but that kid has got some LUCK riding on his shoulders... He is definitely an ATHLETE and his strength is really, REALLY complimentary. I don't know... I'm pretty hopeful for these guys... Now, if Zac Lee could just come into the Missouri game in the 2nd quarter, throw like 9 touchdown tosses and then one of our players on D could rip the heart out of Gabbert and then eat it as it's still pumping blood about mid-field, THAT would be a game!!! OK, just kidding about Gabbert, I wish the kid no ill-will. Maybe not his heart, maybe just one of his kidneys... Just kidding Mizzou, just kidding. Or... am I...? GO BIG &*%$#@& RED!
  11. NOT an easy game but these players seemed focused and I was THRILLED to see them pull off an upset. Considering that there were some dropped passes and missed tackles, it is even MORE impressive when a team can come together, stay FOCUSED and pull off an upset like this! It will be even sweeter if they manage to get thru, over, under, on top of and around Missoura this weekend! GOOD LUCK! GO BIG $%&***% RED! GYEAH!!!
  12. See, that's just it tho... Just because the fan-base was fired up doesn't mean the team was... This doesn't just fall back on this years team, I haven't seen truly FIRED UP play for years now... I think this is the year tho. I'll bet they get FIRED UP for Mizzou AND for Colorado AND Iowa State. You know, a lot of people seemed to slap coach Pelini silly for some of his fire breathing antics last couple of years, and I can see where he isn't as animated this year. Maybe I'm missing the emotion from the players and I'm off-base, but it seems sorta low-key lately (and I'm talking since about 2002 lately...) Maybe none of my posts matter and I'll just fade to black and let the games play out (like I have a choice OTHERWISE, right?). I just think if we saw Jared Crick doing a 48 inch lateral leap with that mustache in a uniform after slamming a QB 4 inches into the turf, the rest of the team would start to take notice. Of course, if ANYONE ever saw Jared Crick do a 48 inch lateral leap, I'm guessing someone would notice!!! I don't care if it's an 8 inch lateral leap as long as blood was leaking out the player's eyes and his hair is on end while his jaw muscles are clenched like a vice on the opponents jugular (or femoral, that would be OK)... I absolutely LOVE watching this team play and mistakes or not, they are still 'my' team. GO BIG *&%$#@^*$# RED!!!
  13. Losing to Texas blows, BUT... You think it hurt as a FAN, I can only imagine how these players must feel... I mean, who the heck wants to be the guy to make a mistake and watch a win bounce away or WORSE THAN THAT, lose a game that they have given their BEST AVAILABLE effort in? Man, THAT would suck... So, I for one, can give these guys a break, but what I REALLY want to see is some absolute fired UP playing and players. Maybe that's being culled out of them because of celebration penalties and what-not...? Remember what the ENTIRE team looked like when our D used to absolutely SCRUB the floor with a QB for a loss? A LOT of years of that, but I mostly remember seeing it when the 90's teams were up and running. My God, HALF OUR TEAM jumped up and threw the bones on a good smash-back! You could just SEE and HEAR the abdomen muscles tighten, the teeth gnash, biceps flex, the 'GYEAH! over a good play like that and every team player FED off of that, like some pride on a fresh wildebeest carcass. Offense fed off of D, and Defense fed off of the O. It was a THING O' BEAUTY. Hey, it ain't like THIS CURRENT TEAM isn't making some hellish GREAT plays out there too, but I just don't see the 'here, could you hold my eyes for a second while I run over to this guy and rip his throat out' kind of attitude being displayed. Not saying it ISN'T THERE, (believe me, I would NOT want any of our defensive OR offensive line to tackle ME!) but I just don't 'see it' like I used to. Doesn't mean these young guys AND our coaches aren't DOING JUST THAT, I'm just not seeing it demonstratively (Holy crap did I just SPELL that right!?!). These guys ARE getting after it, but it just seems like the fire isn't showing thru so the other team and OUR TEAM can see it... Look, I SUCKED at football, but one year, my Dad (who did NOT suck at football) taught me to play like an absolute rabid animal, to LIVE to tear thru the line, to GROWL and gnash at opposing players. He said that it would carry me thru. It would 'affect' anyone around me. It worked! I had to re-learn that 'skill-set' after I joined the Army and had to face a bunch of tough challenges... Guess what. It worked AGAIN. Crazed, live baby-eating, pawing the dirt like an animal football playing is what I wanna see! Bet we do folks, bet before this season is done, we see some FIRED UP Husker players that SHOW US that FIRE! GO BIG G*%$#M RED!!! GYEAH!!!
  14. Really, that good to eat? I never have eaten, but I have heard from numerous people that they stink regardless of whether they are gut shot or not. Also, 150 grains being "too light?" I would think that a smaller caliber flat shooting magnum like a .25 WSM would be a good fit. Yeah, the 'too light' comment was a joke. I've only killed two goats. First one was accidentally gut shot (bad scope that didn't hold zero after a truck ride to the hunting area) and it tasted wayyyyyy better than any deer I've ever et. BUT, oddly, it didn't stink much either. Now this one? Holy Jammal Lord was he RANK! He wasn't gut shot, BUT he had been chasing another buck HARD right before I shot him, sooo.... I don't know WHAT to believe in regards to 'stinking goats' thoughts. There are two kind of opposite examples of the common logic.
  15. Sunday afternoon, after some walking, sweating, cursing, MISSING and a final stalk: I managed to run a big ol' .30 caliber bullet thru a speed-goat in Kolorado. Used my Savage 99 in .300 Savage (just a trifle LIGHT for goats...!) with an olllllllld weaver 3 power scope. Fun hunt. Went with one of my employees, he got HIS goat that day also. Not a trophy critter, but from what I can tell, a 'nice' goat for this neck of the woods. Learned some things; my right eye has apparently died and only recovers from it's glazed foggy view after a LONG time of blinking and exercising it... my 3 power scope is MINIMAL for my needs (see 'dead eye' above)... dead antelope are QUITE rank in the 'smelly' department... a 150 grain semi-jacketed .300 Savage bullet WILL travel THRU the ENTIRE length (from front to back!) of an antelope buck... Good lessons.
  16. I was...SIX during that game!!! I remember my Dad hollerin' and whoopin' over the radio over that game tho...! GO BIG RED!!!
  17. Great helmet, I like how the coach was so pumped about it. Yeah, that helmet IS cool and you can always tell a husker's gut feeling on this stuff, huh? It usually starts with a ear deafening "YEAH...!" Awesome...
  18. Yeah, I'll get some pics... My helmet is the old 'vintage' style 3/4 helmet, so it comes down but not around the front of your face. I'm not a helmet wearer (I know, I know, different topic / opinions) but I know 'braska troopers have LITTLE sense of humor about riding thru without one, soooo.... I'm still waiting on my ebay helmet stickers to get here (apparently they are made by chewing wood bark into a red paste and then hand delivered by worm drawn carriage from Illinois... my LORD people, PUT 'EM IN AN ENVELOPE and MAIL IT!) and then I'm ready. GO BIG REDness!!!!
  19. OK, so I'm planning a motor-sickle ride across the great state of husker. On Hwy 20. Going east. End of June. Got that picture? Bugs splatterin', knee's bakin', neck reddenin', the whole experience. So, I ordered an all white 3/4 motorcycle helmet (for my contribution to skid-lid country). Then I ordered the Nebraska football decals, which I will apply to said helmet. My question is: Cheers? or Jeers? I'm doin' it, just wondering what you guys thought... GO BIG friggin' RED!
  20. Hey, the kid is 16... I thought it was pretty well put together for a 16 year old! Nice job kid... There are TONS AND TONS of adults (on this board and elsewhere) that couldn't have put that together. But, what's the deal with taking your shoe off...? Never heard of that...
  21. If my walls had wallpaper it would have been PEELED this morning... Even I have never witnessed such a profane oratory as I expressed last night waiting for the 'switch' to our bowl game. I was prepared however, because in MY home, luck is as chitty as a sick kitty. I had my trusty AM radio tuned sharply to the game and got to HEAR the game until the switchover. I hope my neighbor's didn't hear me... I may have some criminal charges pending... LOVED the game tho! Boring? Sure, just the way I LIKE 'EM!!!
  22. Cy, I wish your 'clones the best... My lord, I hope they prove better than a&m did for our conference... What's that smell? Oh... It came from the field... Have fun down there! You know it's supposed to snow during the game, right...?
  23. Yes, that was a very brown, smelly, squishy kind of egg... I really thought a&m was gonna tear some RUMP in that bowl game. I knew Georgia was good and I knew they would play hard and fast, but after seeing a&m and their 'never say die' attitude when they played Texas, I thought they would really be ready. Plop. Dual courtesy flush. Fecal trail. Lingering gag... I think a&m is SO much better than that too... DANG IT!!!
  24. Wow, what an impressive showing for the Big 12 so far.... Good Lord. We thought OUR QB struggled mightily in big games... That looked as flat as week old tap water mixed with diet cola. I'll bet the a&m fans are about sick...
  25. No, no, I thought that too, but it IS actually; "in like Flint" from the late 60's movie title... Unless I've missed an earlier reference...
