  1. It was news to Osborne that Bo had outright cancelled yesterday, though he went along with it once he heard that from the media members. Papuchis said the decision was "way above his pay grade". It does kind of sound like it was Bo's decision alone. And it's a mystifying one. Even if the fans couldn't watch, why not have the scrimmage indoors? You could even let the BTN film it there. Failing that, if you've got a bunch of guys who have legit reasons for not being able to do it Sunday, why not just make it voluntary and play it with whoever CAN make it? If you're missing some starters, even better... get those backup and walk on players some more reps in a game-like environment. The number of full team practices is so limited... it seems crazy to just burn one because of a little weather.
  2. Looks like we are definitely recruiting some pass rushing DEs this year.
  3. Okay, I just had to pause that video after 48 seconds to comment, because did he seriously stiff arm a defensive tackle on that second play? Oh my...
  4. After watching that senior highlight reel, I'm officially eating my words about Tommy's passing. I still think he makes some scary throws, but he always seems to put it where only his receiver can get it. He's as good throwing on the run as any QB I've seen in a while. I saw some touch passes, pump fakes, decent footwork, and of course his arm strengh and rushing are both excellent. He does seem to have pretty much the total package.
  5. My gut feeling is that we could land everyone except Peat. I don't know why, that's just the vibe I'm getting.
  6. I hope we play UCLA and whi- oh, right.
  7. I don't have a good feeling about DF, but Curry would be one heck of a consolation prize. Let's hope it shakes out that way.
  8. This is just a guess, but coming on the heels of the Shoff news, I'm wondering if they gave him the deal they'd been offering Shoff. Pure speculation, but it fits.
  9. I was wondering the same thing. I don't see any harm in reaching out to him.
  10. A very warm welcome to the fold for Mr. Alexander. We can use all the help we can get at DB.
  11. Wow, really? His measurables as a sophomore had scouts drooling. Okay, here are some numbers from rivals: Height: 6'7" Weight: 275 Press: 340 Squat: 420 40 Time: 5.1 Vertical: 30 Height: 6'6" Weight: 280 Press: 420 Squat: 450 40 Time: 4.8 Vertical: 29 One of those is Mike Shoff, and the other is 5 star OT prospect Kyle Murphy, rivals' third ranked OT in the country. Can you guess which is which?
  12. Shoff might be a project due to his focus on wrestling in HS and the time he lost to injury, but his measurables are so elite I think he's the sort of player you take and hope you can coach up. With the speed and agility he has for his size I would also switch him to d-line, where he could probably succeed a little more easily purely on his physical gifts and depth seems to still be more of an issue.
  13. I don't think there are a lot of schools that beat Nebraska for the amount of fan and media attention players get. Forget spotlight, it's more like a microscope most of the time.
  14. He looks taller than 6'1 doesn't he? Looks like one of the tallest guys on his team. Definitely not a speedster, but he hits the hole and runs behind his blockers extremely well; no messing around, just downhill running.
  15. I'll say this after watching the video Mavric just posted... his accuracy is better than I thought, especially on the run.
  16. The issue isn't mechanics, and certainly not arm strength, which is excellent. It's accuracy and the fact that he doesn't seem to even make one read on many of his passes. It looks like he has one receiver on a given play that he knows he's supposed to throw to, and he launches the ball in that direction no matter how well they're covered. My overriding thought watching the highlights of that game a couple pages back was 'if he regularly makes throws like that, how does he not get picked off all time?' I think his TD/INT ratio has people convinced that he's a better passer than he is... then again, I could be dead wrong. I've only watched a highlight video of one game, and I probably shouldn't be trying to draw a lot of conclusions from it. With all that said, I don't want anyone to misunderstand me. I think Armstrong is a great QB prospect. I hope he redshirts and works on learning the offense, getting through reads, and throwing some touch passes. If he puts in the work he has the physical tools to be excellent.
  17. Watching those highlights, you can tell he's a natural athlete and a good runner, and maybe it was just a bad game, but he looks like he needs a lot of work as a passer.
  18. We ran that play to the right with Turner way back in one of the noncon games and I've been wanting to see it again ever since.
  19. What strikes me most about those highlight videos is the way the O-line is knocking the defense off the ball. They are getting to the 2nd level quickly and throwing some hellacious blocks. Scheme isn't so important... fix our o-line and you fix our offense.
  20. How many dual threat QBs in AQ conferences had a better season than Taylor statistically? RG3, Robinson, James Franklin... I think that's about it.
  21. That's no less speculative than the OP's post, in my opinion. I guess I'll keep hoping for the simpler fix.
  22. Argh... well, he can be the man there instead of competing for playing time, but I hope for his sake he doesn't go the way of Owa and come to regret it.
  23. I agree, he did definitely show improvement this year. Regarding this point, I can't speak for anyone one else, but when looking for an explanation for our team's three big implosions this year, I think deep down I'm hoping that Bo's sideline demeanor is the explanation, because that's a relatively easy fix, and is much better than any of the other possible explanations I can think of.
  24. I don't think it's Bo's demeanor per se that most people have a problem with. In a vacuum, I personally don't care if he wants to get fired up and yell at some refs or if he wants to wear neon green blazers on game day or paint his face blue and stride up and down the sideline like William Wallace. In a vacuum. However, if his temper affects play calling like it seemingly did in the bowl game, that's obviously not good. And if Bo's inability to keep his cool on the field when things aren't going well is indeed trickling down to the players, that's even worse. Is that necessarily what's happening? No, it's speculation, but I think it's a pretty fair question to ask at this point. I'm about as big a Pelini supporter as you could hope to find, but I still think it's a fair question.
  25. If your superior called you out publicly like that, not saying that you weren't trying hard enough, or not giving it your best effort, but just flat out saying that you're not smart or talented enough to do your job, and they're hoping to replace you with someone better as soon as possible, how would feel about that? I agree with a point one poster made... I thought the idea was to point the thumb. I guess that was just talk.
