  1. In case you missed it, KU had a long punt return earlier in the year. The returner dove into the endzone unnecessarily and Mangino ripped into him for showing off. Here is what was said:
  2. That is a cool story. It's great that there are coaches out there who are there not just for a job, but because they love the state and school (and also happen to be very good at what they do). I hope you guys can find that again.
  3. I can't believe that I'm about to get in a "my team is worse than your team" debate. We're 3-3. Two of our losses were blowouts (UGA & Troy) and the other came after we led TAMU 17-0 at the half only to pizz it away with some amazingly bad coaching. There's no shame losing at Georgia, but getting whacked by Troy? Of our wins, one was over a decent Tech team. The other two were against Florida Atlantic and Div 1-AA Sam Houston State. All of them were at home. Winning at Nebraska would be huge for us. It would get the monkey off of our back that's been there since 1962. I don't think monkeys live for 45 years, so the current one is probably the grandchild of the original one. I hope we do win, but if we don't, is there a store that sells monkey chow in Lincoln?
  4. Yeah, and still at 11:30 in the blessed a.m.
  5. This was posted by a guy on our board a few seasons ago. It keeps making its way back because, well, we're not exactly tuff as rain. Whatever the hell that means. Thought you all would enjoy it. ------------------ Saturday - Before Kick-off: "Poke Dementia" My Thought Process: "WERE GONNA KILL 'EM!!!!!" Comment: Wife wont talk to me on Saturdays Sunday: DENIAL My Thought Process: "I cant believe we lost in OT to the Tigers...AGAIN?!?! . Cheatin' Bastards! How can Savage be open every F*&^%-ing play?!?! Our receivers are TWICE as talented as their receivers" Comment: Wake up with a "Cowboy Football hangover" and feel like crap; which is a mystery because I didn’t drink anything the night before. Monday: ANGER Thought process: "F*&%-ing Tigers!!! I HATE that team. We SUCK!!! 19 point underdogs to the Horns next week. It should be more like 49!. We SUCK!!! " Comment: I am usually very tired at work Monday mornings due to the stress of the weekend. No work gets done. Boss asks me if my dog died or something. I tell him "I wish". Tuesday: CONSPIRACY Thought process: "Woods was IN BOUNDS on that catch!!! How many holding calls can the freakin' refs miss?!?! Why do we get shafted on calls EVERY game, year after year?!?! I heard that the head ref's son-in-law was a Mizzou grad...that's why he called Woods out of bounds. Why did the Oklahoman choose to run stories on the Sooners' undefeated season and OU/UT game instead of our big matchup against Mizzou?" Comment: In hindsight every week- I generally feel like an idiot on this day. Wednesday: ACCEPTANCE Thought process: "We just don’t have the tools this year. Bell just isn't the threat we had hope he would be this early in his career. Pogi has got to learn to hang onto the ball to be a big-time college QB. Maybe next year" Comment: This is the only day of the week that includes any type of rational thought. Work actually gets done in the office and the wife is happy because you aren't complaining about football. Thursday: OPTIMISTIC Thought process: "OK, we have 6 games left. All we have to do is beat UT and Colorado at home and OU in Norman. We still have a shot at a bowl." Comment: Call to get airfare price and hotel reservations in Shreveport in December Friday: DELUSIONAL Thought Process: "UT can shove those 19 points right where the sun don’t shine. I cant believe we are underdogs AT HOME!!! This is OUR HOUSE!" Comment: People at work laugh at me Saturday - Before Kick off: "Poke Dementia" Thought process: "WERE GONNA KILL 'EM!!!" Comment: The viscous cycle continues...
  6. Hey man. A few people have been contributing to this thread with all kinds of recommendations... This will be my first trip for a game there, so I'm jazzed about it, too. Have a big time. Ride 'em!
  7. I couldn't resist! :-) Gundy (I'm a MAN, my hair is TALL): Sam Keller (and mine is TALLER):
  8. I've never understood the need for any fan to berate the opposing team's fans. For the most part, I think that the majority of fans in the Big 12 are good folks. I've had good experiences at ISU, OU, KSU, and Tech. The only time I've had a bad time was at game in Austin. It didn't help that we were in the middle of the UT student section, but yeesh, I've never had so much vitriol spewed our way. Really, it was surprising considering they beat us 70-14. I have friends who have had a great time at UT games. Sadly, the few bad apples can really speak volumes even when the majority of fans are cool.
  9. Thanks for the welcome. Being on the wrong side of that particular stat, I can tell you it doesn't sit particularly well with us either! I went to OSU in the late 80s when Thurman and then Barry came along. I really thought we had a chance to break that streak with Barry. 42 points on the blackshirts and we still couldn't pull it off. I remember watching the Princess Bride around that time...a quote from Pirate Roberts/Wesley popped into my head after the game, "Get used to disappointment". Ohhh nooo. You're not going to suit up Winstrom and Green are you?!
  10. What a crappy weekend for both of us. Nonetheless, I'm still excited to make my first trip to Lincoln for a game. I hope the stadium is packed and rockin' for the day. We haven't won in Lincoln since 1960. While I remain hopeful, I just don't feel optimistic. It's hard to feel optimistic when the overall record is 36-4-1 for the series. Sigh. I see lots of discontent for Callahan here. Maybe we can help your cause to replace him with our first win there in 47 years. ;-) Do you guys have an 'official' HuskerBoard tailgate? We plan to hit some of the places recommended on the board, but it would also be cool to meet some of you near the stadium. And maybe get a beer to help ease the pain from the results of the day ("ease his pain" - caught Field of Dreams last night). See y'all soon.
  11. When I think of Tommie Frazier, I think of this: YAW! Sadly, I've witnessed both Tommie Frazier and VY run freaking wild on my team. They're both monsters.
  12. Hehheh, I haven't seen one of those before. Have you all seen these? http://www.pocketshot.net/ I'm not much of a liquor guy, but these do look perfect for game day.
  13. Hehheh. I like Lincoln. A friend of mine lived in Omaha several years ago. Went up for a visit, drove to Lincoln, and stopped by the stadium. It was closed, but a guard there let us in. "I just want to see the site of all the beatings handed to us over the years." Nice guy. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised at Lincoln. Definitely more to do there than in Stillwater. I had no idea what a Runza was, so I looked it up. Man, that is one monster sandwich thing. Thanks for the information and link at top - eskimopie and I were both looking for the same information, so I appreciate you making the effort to get more ideas for us. Yes, Lazlo's, that's the place I was thinking of. Thanks! Mmm, good beer!
  14. Eskimo - I work on campus at OSU. I went to the International Expo today on the library lawn and saw a guy wearing a Nebraska hat and t-shirt. Was that you by chance?
  15. Wow, that's harsh that they ticketed those folks. OSU is a 'dry' campus, except for a few areas - some suites in the stadium, a few suites in Gallagher-Iba Arena, and a few other places on campus like a couple of rooms at the Hotel Restaurant Admin school. Game days? As benny said above, "no drinking in public...except on game days, that's okay"...even though it's not official, it's what is practiced. We have a large group for our tailgate, 6-7 families/groups of friends with a few tents. I can only think of two times the police talked to us about our beer. Both times they just politely asked that we put our beer in cups. That would suck to have the norm be drastically altered without warning!
  16. The Big 12 updated their webpage today. Apparently, the game is indeed on PPV at 11:30am.
  17. We need to get you some orange kool-aid, STAT! ;-)
  18. What is up with friends scheduling their impending nuptials during football season? At least they had the foresight to do it over an away game, eh? I have the same problem this weekend with the OSU @TAMU game - good friends getting married about an hour after the game starts. Reverend: "Does anyone object to this marriage?" Guy with earbud: "Stop those bastages!"
  19. Ah, gotcha. Thanks. The only thing I can think of for the TAMU/Tech game is that it should be another shootout, and the networks love those. There's also that whole Fran thing going, I guess. UT @ ISU? That is really an odd one. ISU stinks and UT hasn't looked good except for their pasting of Rice. We've been on TV three times - @UGA, @Troy, and TTU. As Robsker said, it's mostly because we've been the 'foil'. Yeah, Washington Generals!
  20. What's the update (as there is no info about our game other than where it's being played)?
  21. Thank you, sir. While I am excited about going to the game, the last 40+ years of the history of OSU/NU does not make me very optimistic about the outcome. OSU defense; good for what ails your offense. Whew. I just checked on the Big 12 schedule site looking for the game time and if it's on tv. As of now, there is no tv and no announced time. One person posted on an OSU site that they saw a tentative time somewhere of 11:30am. I really hope that is not the case... I would hope that if you guys take care of Mizzou and we somehow get out of College Station, the game will get picked up and be at a good time.
  22. Good morning, everyone, Some friends and I are making the trip up to Lincoln for the OSU/Nebraska game. We're all excited to make the trip - Nebraska is one of the venues where I've always wanted catch a game. We love seeing what other schools/fans do for pre-game festivities. Where's the best place(s) to hangout before the game? The last time I was in Lincoln, I had some most excellent beer at...can't remember the name of the place...but the beer was Empyrean, I believe. Have you all heard what time the game starts? See y'all (can I say "y'all" here?) soon! -Andy
