  1. I guess I can't comment on who was calling the plays when. I wasn't on the sideline, therefore, I do not know. I do know that I questioned alot of the play calling on 3rd and short (whoever was calling the plays), especially with someone like Castille in the backfield. It just never made sense to me then, and it still doesn't make sense to me now. However, you are spot on with the other things you said. NU's offense needs to establish a solid running game in order for them to be successful next season. I'm not necessarily talking about 300 yards rushing every game, but enough of a run game so those linebackers have to worry about both the passing and rushing game. Run, run, run, run the ball, sprinkle in some play action, screens, and deep routes. Keep the defense guessing what the hell is going on. Another thing I noticed was that while Ganz was in, he almost seemed hesitant to run. He's not the most athletic QB in the world, but he CAN run. Assuming he will be the QB next season, I think Ganz needs to run more. If the pocket collapses or there are huge areas of open field, he should just tuck the ball and run it. Make the defense pay for their mistakes. After a few 10-15 yard gains, the LBs would probably creep up to keep an eye on Ganz, which would open up the passing game a fair amount. Just my opinion though...
  2. Yes, that is what I asked. Root for another team? What other team is there besides Nebraska?
  3. Just wanted to say a few things about what I have read. Yes, NU fans seemed discontent this past season and showed their disapproval by booing, walking out of the game, and of course all over discussion boards. However, this doesn't mean they aren't good fans or that they are "bandwagon" fans. 5-7 for any Nebraska team is inexcusable. Two losing seasons in 4 years when a losing season hadn't hardly been experienced for 35 years is inexcusable. Players getting essentially paid to play (i.e., full ride scholarships) and not putting 100% effort into every game and practice is inexcusable. Not getting rid of a defensive coordinator when it's obvious that his defense is horrible is inexcusable. Should Nebraska fans just ignore all those issues and go about their merry way like everything is okay? Should we just keep all these problems to ourselves and hope that things turn out okay? No…why should we? I guess I don't understand where alot of people are coming from on this issue. Their basic argument is that because we criticized the team, then that makes us "bad" fans or "bandwagon" fans. Hmmm...I would have to strongly disagree. The real world isn't all nice and perfect. Not everything is bubble gum, sunshine, and puppy dogs. NU fans had two options: 1) we could just keep quiet, support the team, not criticize anything that was going on, and hope that the team would change for the better or 2) we could be proactive and voice our opinion, “Hey, the team is really struggling. Players don't seem to be motivated, the game plans don't seem to be put together well, the defense looks lost, the coaches don't have any answers to our questions, the players aren't being utilized correctly, and we feel something has to change so the team can get better." So we did let the NU program know we weren't happy with its progress by booing them and/or criticizing them on discussion boards. However - in my opinion - of the options above, the first option is worse than the second option. Since when does criticizing something because you don’t agree with it make you a bad person or fan? That’s like saying if you don’t agree with the President, then you aren’t American. In my opinion, biting your tongue and not saying anything when it’s obvious there are things wrong seem to imply that you don’t care what happens. How does ignoring problems and not caring about your team make you a good fan? On the other side, how does criticizing a team make you a bad/bandwagon fan? Please explain...
  4. I never realized how hilarious Matt is. The best part isn't what he said, but how he said it. Isn't he the one who does the voice of Callahan for Unsportsmanlike Conduct? You know..."HEY! This is goatboy Callahan...BAAAAAAAAAAAA...Husker fans."
  5. All snatch jokes aside, it's refreshing to see a turn around in winter conditioning. Hopefully the winter and spring is enough time for these players to increase their strength and speed for September.
  6. I would have to say Swift. I expect Swift to not only emerge as the leader as far as statistics are concerned, but I think he will be an on-the-field leader amongst the wide receivers.
  7. Maybe so, but does Lee have 4+ years running Nebraska's West Coast Offense? I don't think I will be surprised at all when the starting QB is announced...
  8. I don't think I am being unrealistic at all and I don't think my expectation of next year's team is high. It may seem high compared to how lousy last season was, but any team that is heavy on the defensive side of the ball will ALWAYS do good. I'm not saying that the D next season is going to be like it was back in '94 & '95, but I feel it will have lots of success early on which will provide confidence and reassurance for the rest of the team. Once the D gets rolling, the offense will feed off of this and perform even better. And guess what, if we aren't trying to come back from a 2-5 touchdown defecit, there will be less mistakes on offense (i.e., less interceptions). Nebraska will also have the opportunity to "pound the rock," something that was noticeably lacking last season (especially during the end of the season). So, to summarize, I think the improved D will make all the difference in the world. If you take a look at the games we lost (with the exception of a few), Nebraska usually scored 28+ points and STILL lost. That's ridiculous you can't win a game with 28+ points. No matter what happens, I will just be excited to see a team on the field, rather than a bunch of individuals running around the field and some ego maniac trying to prove that his system works.
  9. Best defensive end and better than any other D player, huh? Well, that's not saying much...
  10. Okay, I know all of you are excited to hear what some random guy on a random message board has to say about the Huskers' upcoming season, so here we go: Western Michigan - Win (1-0) San Jose State - Win (2-0) New Mexico State - Win (3-0) Virginia Tech - Win - Kansas beat them in the Orange Bowl. I think we will win against Kansas this season, so look at the explanation down below. (4-0) Missouri - Loss - This is a tough one. Missouri should be a great team for the upcoming season, but everyone also thought Nebraska was going to be a great team in 2007 and look what happened. In my opinion, I think Mizzou will remain a great team and win the North again. Fortunately for Nebraska fans, the game will be much closer than 41 to 6. (4-1) Texas Tech - Loss - This is the first away game, and it will be against a very solid TT team. I just don't think the Huskers have the speed on defense to keep up with the RR's offense (unless the S&C drastically improves this during winter conditioning). (4-2) Iowa State - Win - No explanation needed. (5-2) Baylor - Win - See "Iowa State". (6-2) Oklahoma - Loss - The Big 12 will be pumping out alot of quality teams this season, OU being included in this group. Don't think the Huskers will win, but they will put up a HUGE fight and the game will be fairly close. This is especially true since this game is towards the end of the season, and everything is figured out by now (i.e., which players will play which positions). (6-3) Kansas - Win - Okay, so KU had a decent team last year. But in my opinion, it wasn't as good as everyone thinks. The only good team they faced all year was Mizzou, and they lost to them. The rest of the teams they played were mediocre (i.e., CU, A&M), and they barely ended up winning against them. NU scored 39 points on them last season...and still lost! With a halfway decent defense, and the fact that this is a home game, I think KU is going to be in some trouble. (7-3) Kansas State - Win - Josh who? Expect this Josh character to get roughed up big time in this game. Huskers roll over Kansas State Community College (8-3) Colorado - Win - Home game against CU = Husker victory. Look, we were dominating them going into the half last season, and then our wonderful "defense" started to do what they did best last season...suck. I don't think this game will even be close. (9-3) Bowl game - Don't know, depends on who we are against... End of season before Bowl Game record: 9-3 I'm looking forward to the upcoming season. I'm mostly looking forward to see what the defense will look like once all players have been evaluated, and Bo and his assistants decide where each player should go. Samething goes for the offensive side of the ball, but in my opinion, the offense was fairly good last season. Is it September yet?
  11. I don't really like Potter playing DE. He is too slow and in my opinion, you want speed on the outside. So, unless he gets quicker, I would put Potter as a DT and put someone who has speed on the outside of the line. Just my opinion though...
  12. Who does the Bill Callahan impression anyway?
  13. Couldn't agree more. There are just so many great running backs entering the draft this year, it will be tough for Lucky to compete. It's not that he's not good, there are just better.
  14. Adjusting...what's that mean? But seriously, adjustments are for teams that want to win the game!
  15. I want NU to play the BEST players - regardless of their class status - for each of the positions. If I wanted certain players to be picked based on any other criteria than "they are the best for that position," I would ask Bill Callahan to come back and coach...
  16. I don't really care how many games NU wins as long as it looks like their defense is trying to accomplish something!
  17. Well, I guess I don't know about that. From where I was sitting (in my house in front of my big screen LCD TV), I thought the game was called okay. There were a few plays here and there where I felt that Mizzou might have gotten screwed. At the same time, there were a few calls where I felt KU got screwed. When it comes down to it the way the refs call the game should not decide whether a team wins or loses, which it didn't in my opinion. I felt Mizzou was in control of the game from the beginning: their offense was just dominating KU's defense, and for the first half Mizzou's D was stickin' it to Reesing and company. I also wanted to mention something about them playing at Arrowhead (neutral ground). Alot of KU fans are using it as an excuse of why KU lost. Look, if a team is good...it shouldn't matter where they play. If they are good, they should win. That's what good teams do. So stop trying to make excuses and just realize that KU lost to a better team.
  18. Oh, I also wanted to say that the first play Mizzou scored on, was designed beautifully. Anyone know which play I was talking about?
  19. It was so nice for KU to finally face a worthy opponent. It was quite obvious after watching this game that Kansas isn't as good of a team as everyone thought. Don't get me wrong, they have a good team, but not national championship material. Mizzou's offense had their way with KU's defense almost all night long. Granted KU almost came back in the end...but it's kind of hard to come back when your defense can't stop the other team's offense. Not sure who KU's opponent will be in their bowl game, but if it is a halfway decent team, KU is going to struggle. I see that Mizzou is #1. I'm not a fan of Mizzou, nor will I ever be, but it's good to see a solid team representing the Big 12 in the national championship picture. It's really a shame that Mizzou has to face OU for the Big 12 Title while other teams like Ohio State sit around playing with themselves, because to me, Mizzou has already won the Big 12. That being said, I do believe Mizzou has a great chance at beating OU this Saturday. It's the second time these two teams have squared off this season, and I can guarantee you Mr. Chase Daniel will be going out on that field to prove something. He's learned from his mistakes and he's ready to lead the offense up and down the field. I want Mizzou to win against OU. Plain and simple. I want them to be in the championship game because I feel they deserve it. They have an overwhelming offense, and their defense has been doing great lately, making plays when they need to be made. If they beat OU this Saturday, they deserve to be in the national championship. If they don't get in, well, something is definitely wrong with the system. GO MIZZOU!!!
  20. With NU out of the national title picture, the Big 12 still has three possible candidates to go to the championship game (OU, Mizzou, and KU). Looking at the three teams, I feel that while Mizzou is a great team, and KU is an okay team...OSU seems to have the better chance of not only going to the championship game, but winning it. My vote is with OU, and I will root for them to represent the Big 12. What does everyone else think?
  21. Is there any place I can hear this teleconference?
  22. I don't think I will be rooting for either team...I will just be watching it. Although I do think Mizzou will win...
  23. Missouri is going to roll over Kansas...you know, the first ranked team they will have faced all year. I'm sure it was nice for Kansas while it lasted though.
